kuntīputrastu taṃ mantraṃ smaranneva dhanañjayaḥ। pratijñāmātmano rakṣanmumohācintyavikramaḥ ॥7-57-1॥

(But the son of Kunti, Dhananjaya, remembering that mantra, protecting his own vow, was bewildered, of inconceivable prowess.)

तं तु शोकेन सन्तप्तं स्वप्ने कपिवरध्वजम्। आससाद महातेजा ध्यायन्तं गरुडध्वजः ॥७-५७-२॥

(But him, afflicted with grief, in a dream, the one with the monkey banner, approached the one with great splendor, meditating, the one with the Garuda banner.)

प्रत्युत्थानं तु कृष्णस्य सर्वावस्थं धनञ्जयः। नालोपयत धर्मात्मा भक्त्या प्रेम्णा च सर्वदा ॥७-५७-३॥
pratyutthānaṃ tu kṛṣṇasya sarvāvasthaṃ dhanañjayaḥ। nālopayata dharmātmā bhaktyā premṇā ca sarvadā ॥7-57-3॥

(Arjuna, the righteous soul, did not neglect rising for Krishna in all conditions, with devotion and love, always.)
Arjuna, known for his righteousness, always rose for Krishna in every situation, driven by devotion and love.
प्रत्युत्थाय च गोविन्दं स तस्मायासनं ददौ। न चासने स्वयं बुद्धिं बीभत्सुर्व्यदधात्तदा ॥७-५७-४॥
pratyutthāya ca govindaṃ sa tasmāyāsanaṃ dadau। na cāsane svayaṃ buddhiṃ bībhatsurvyadadhāttadā ॥7-57-4॥
[प्रत्युत्थाय (pratyutthāya) - having risen; च (ca) - and; गोविन्दं (govindaṃ) - Govinda; स (sa) - he; तस्मै (tasmai) - to him; आसनं (āsanaṃ) - seat; ददौ (dadau) - gave; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; आसने (āsane) - on the seat; स्वयं (svayaṃ) - himself; बुद्धिं (buddhiṃ) - mind; बीभत्सुः (bībhatsuḥ) - disgusted; व्यदधात् (vyadadhāt) - placed; तदा (tadā) - then;]
(Having risen, he gave a seat to Govinda. And he did not place his mind on the seat, being disgusted then.)
Having risen, he offered a seat to Govinda. However, he did not focus his mind on the seat, as he was feeling disgusted at that time.
ततः कृष्णो महातेजा जानन्पार्थस्य निश्चयम्। कुन्तीपुत्रमिदं वाक्यमासीनः स्थितमब्रवीत् ॥७-५७-५॥
tataḥ kṛṣṇo mahātejā jānanpārthasya niścayam। kuntīputramidaṃ vākyamāsīnaḥ sthitamabravīt ॥7-57-5॥

(Then Kṛṣṇa, of great splendor, knowing the determination of Pārtha, said this speech to the son of Kuntī, who was seated and situated.)
Then Kṛṣṇa, the one with great splendor, understanding Arjuna's resolve, addressed these words to the son of Kuntī, who was seated.
मा विषादे मनः पार्थ कृथाः कालो हि दुर्जयः। कालः सर्वाणि भूतानि नियच्छति परे विधौ ॥७-५७-६॥
mā viṣāde manaḥ pārtha kṛthāḥ kālo hi durjayaḥ। kālaḥ sarvāṇi bhūtāni niyacchati pare vidhau ॥7-57-6॥
[मा (mā) - do not; विषादे (viṣāde) - in despair; मनः (manaḥ) - mind; पार्थ (pārtha) - O son of Pritha; कृथाः (kṛthāḥ) - make; कालः (kālaḥ) - time; हि (hi) - indeed; दुर्जयः (durjayaḥ) - invincible; कालः (kālaḥ) - time; सर्वाणि (sarvāṇi) - all; भूतानि (bhūtāni) - beings; नियच्छति (niyacchati) - controls; परे (pare) - in the supreme; विधौ (vidhau) - order;]
(Do not let your mind fall into despair, O son of Pritha, for time is indeed invincible. Time controls all beings in the supreme order.)
O son of Pritha, do not let your mind fall into despair, for time is indeed invincible and governs all beings according to the supreme order.
किमर्थं च विषादस्ते तद्ब्रूहि वदतां वर। न शोचितव्यं विदुषा शोकः कार्यविनाशनः ॥७-५७-७॥
kimarthaṃ ca viṣādaste tadbrūhi vadatāṃ vara। na śocitavyaṃ viduṣā śokaḥ kāryavināśanaḥ ॥7-57-7॥
[किमर्थम् (kimartham) - for what reason; च (ca) - and; विषादः (viṣādaḥ) - sorrow; ते (te) - your; तत् (tat) - that; ब्रूहि (brūhi) - tell; वदताम् (vadatām) - of speakers; वर (vara) - best; न (na) - not; शोचितव्यम् (śocitavyam) - to be lamented; विदुषा (viduṣā) - by the wise; शोकः (śokaḥ) - grief; कार्य (kārya) - action; विनाशनः (vināśanaḥ) - destroyer;]
(For what reason is your sorrow? Tell that, O best of speakers. Grief is not to be lamented by the wise, as it is the destroyer of action.)
Why are you sorrowful? Tell me, O best of speakers. The wise do not lament over grief, as it destroys action.
शोचन्नन्दयते शत्रून्कर्शयत्यपि बान्धवान्। क्षीयते च नरस्तस्मान्न त्वं शोचितुमर्हसि ॥७-५७-८॥
śocannandayate śatrūnkarśayatyapi bāndhavān। kṣīyate ca narastasmānna tvaṃ śocitumarhasi ॥7-57-8॥
[शोचन (śocan) - lamenting; नन्दयते (nandaya) - delights; शत्रून् (śatrūn) - enemies; कर्शयति (karśayati) - torments; अपि (api) - also; बान्धवान् (bāndhavān) - relatives; क्षीयते (kṣīyate) - is diminished; च (ca) - and; नरः (naraḥ) - man; तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; न (na) - not; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; शोचितुम् (śocitum) - to lament; अर्हसि (arhasi) - ought to;]
(Lamenting delights enemies, torments also relatives; and the man is diminished, therefore you ought not to lament.)
Lamenting causes joy to enemies and torments relatives; thus, a person is diminished, and therefore, you should not lament.
इत्युक्तो वासुदेवेन बीभत्सुरपराजितः। आबभाषे तदा विद्वानिदं वचनमर्थवत् ॥७-५७-९॥
ityukto vāsudevena bībhatsuraparājitaḥ। ābabhāṣe tadā vidvānidaṃ vacanamarthavat ॥7-57-9॥
[इति (iti) - thus; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - spoken; वासुदेवेन (vāsudevena) - by Vāsudeva; बीभत्सुः (bībhatsuḥ) - Bībhatsu; अपराजितः (aparājitaḥ) - unconquered; आबभाषे (ābabhāṣe) - spoke; तदा (tadā) - then; विद्वान् (vidvān) - the wise one; इदं (idaṃ) - this; वचनम् (vacanam) - speech; अर्थवत् (arthavat) - meaningful;]
(Thus spoken by Vāsudeva, the unconquered Bībhatsu then spoke this meaningful speech, the wise one.)
Upon being addressed by Vāsudeva, the undefeated Bībhatsu, wise as he was, responded with these meaningful words.
मया प्रतिज्ञा महती जयद्रथवधे कृता। श्वोऽस्मि हन्ता दुरात्मानं पुत्रघ्नमिति केशव ॥७-५७-१०॥
mayā pratijñā mahatī jayadrathavadhe kṛtā। śvo'smi hantā durātmānaṃ putraghnamiti keśava ॥7-57-10॥
[मया (mayā) - by me; प्रतिज्ञा (pratijñā) - vow; महती (mahatī) - great; जयद्रथवधे (jayadrathavadhe) - to kill Jayadratha; कृता (kṛtā) - made; श्वः (śvaḥ) - tomorrow; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; हन्ता (hantā) - the killer; दुरात्मानम् (durātmānam) - wicked soul; पुत्रघ्नम् (putraghnam) - son-killer; इति (iti) - thus; केशव (keśava) - O Keśava;]
(By me, a great vow to kill Jayadratha was made. Tomorrow, I am the killer of the wicked soul, the son-killer, thus, O Keśava.)
I have made a solemn vow to kill Jayadratha. Tomorrow, I shall be the slayer of the wicked one who killed my son, O Keśava.
मत्प्रतिज्ञाविघातार्थं धार्तराष्ट्रैः किलाच्युत। पृष्ठतः सैन्धवः कार्यः सर्वैर्गुप्तो महारथैः ॥७-५७-११॥
matpratijñāvighātārthaṃ dhārtarāṣṭraiḥ kilācyuta। pṛṣṭhataḥ saindhavaḥ kāryaḥ sarvairgupto mahārathaiḥ ॥7-57-11॥
[मत् (mat) - my; प्रतिज्ञा (pratijñā) - vow; विघातार्थम् (vighātārtham) - for the purpose of obstructing; धार्तराष्ट्रैः (dhārtarāṣṭraiḥ) - by the sons of Dhritarashtra; किल (kila) - indeed; अच्युत (acyuta) - O Acyuta; पृष्ठतः (pṛṣṭhataḥ) - from behind; सैन्धवः (saindhavaḥ) - Saindhava; कार्यः (kāryaḥ) - should be done; सर्वैः (sarvaiḥ) - by all; गुप्तः (guptaḥ) - protected; महारथैः (mahārathaiḥ) - by great charioteers;]
(For the purpose of obstructing my vow, O Acyuta, indeed by the sons of Dhritarashtra, Saindhava should be protected from behind by all the great charioteers.)
O Acyuta, indeed, the sons of Dhritarashtra should ensure that Saindhava is protected from behind by all the great charioteers to obstruct my vow.
दश चैका च ताः कृष्ण अक्षौहिण्यः सुदुर्जयाः। प्रतिज्ञायां च हीनायां कथं जीवेत मद्विधः ॥७-५७-१२॥
daśa caikā ca tāḥ kṛṣṇa akṣauhiṇyaḥ sudurjayāḥ। pratijñāyāṃ ca hīnāyāṃ kathaṃ jīvet madvidhaḥ ॥7-57-12॥
[दश (daśa) - ten; च (ca) - and; एका (ekā) - one; च (ca) - and; ताः (tāḥ) - those; कृष्ण (kṛṣṇa) - Kṛṣṇa; अक्षौहिण्यः (akṣauhiṇyaḥ) - divisions; सुदुर्जयाः (sudurjayāḥ) - very difficult to conquer; प्रतिज्ञायां (pratijñāyāṃ) - in promise; च (ca) - and; हीनायां (hīnāyāṃ) - in failing; कथं (kathaṃ) - how; जीवेत (jīvet) - could live; मद्विधः (madvidhaḥ) - like me;]
(Ten and one, those Kṛṣṇa divisions very difficult to conquer. In promise and in failing, how could live like me?)
There are eleven divisions of Kṛṣṇa's army, which are very difficult to conquer. How can someone like me live if I fail in my promise?
दुःखोपायस्य मे वीर विकाङ्क्षा परिवर्तते। द्रुतं च याति सविता तत एतद्ब्रवीम्यहम् ॥७-५७-१३॥
duḥkhopāyasya me vīra vikāṅkṣā parivartate। drutaṃ ca yāti savitā tata etadbravīmyaham ॥7-57-13॥
[दुःख (duḥkha) - sorrow; उपायस्य (upāyasya) - of the means; मे (me) - my; वीर (vīra) - hero; विकाङ्क्षा (vikāṅkṣā) - desire; परिवर्तते (parivartate) - changes; द्रुतं (drutaṃ) - quickly; च (ca) - and; याति (yāti) - goes; सविता (savitā) - sun; तत (tata) - then; एतद् (etad) - this; ब्रवीमि (bravīmi) - I say; अहम् (aham) - I;]
(The desire for the means of sorrow, O hero, changes. Quickly the sun goes, then I say this.)
O hero, my desire for the means of sorrow changes. Quickly the sun moves, and then I say this.
शोकस्थानं तु तच्छ्रुत्वा पार्थस्य द्विजकेतनः। संस्पृश्याम्भस्ततः कृष्णः प्राङ्मुखः समवस्थितः ॥७-५७-१४॥
śokasthānaṃ tu tacchrutvā pārthasya dvijaketanaḥ। saṃspṛśyāmbhastataḥ kṛṣṇaḥ prāṅmukhaḥ samavasthitaḥ ॥7-57-14॥
[शोकस्थानम् (śokasthānam) - place of sorrow; तु (tu) - but; तत् (tat) - that; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; पार्थस्य (pārthasya) - of Pārtha; द्विजकेतनः (dvijaketanaḥ) - Dvijaketana; संस्पृश्य (saṃspṛśya) - having touched; अम्भः (ambhaḥ) - water; ततः (tataḥ) - then; कृष्णः (kṛṣṇaḥ) - Kṛṣṇa; प्राङ्मुखः (prāṅmukhaḥ) - facing east; समवस्थितः (samavasthitaḥ) - stood.;]
(But having heard that place of sorrow of Pārtha, Dvijaketana, having touched water, then Kṛṣṇa stood facing east.)
Upon hearing about the place of sorrow from Pārtha, Dvijaketana, Kṛṣṇa touched the water and stood facing east.
इदं वाक्यं महातेजा बभाषे पुष्करेक्षणः। हितार्थं पाण्डुपुत्रस्य सैन्धवस्य वधे वृतः ॥७-५७-१५॥
idaṁ vākyaṁ mahātejā babhāṣe puṣkarekṣaṇaḥ। hitārthaṁ pāṇḍuputrasya saindhavasya vadhe vṛtaḥ ॥7-57-15॥
[इदं (idaṁ) - this; वाक्यं (vākyaṁ) - statement; महातेजा (mahātejā) - greatly powerful; बभाषे (babhāṣe) - spoke; पुष्करेक्षणः (puṣkarekṣaṇaḥ) - lotus-eyed; हितार्थं (hitārthaṁ) - for the benefit; पाण्डुपुत्रस्य (pāṇḍuputrasya) - of the son of Pandu; सैन्धवस्य (saindhavasya) - of Saindhava; वधे (vadhe) - in the killing; वृतः (vṛtaḥ) - engaged;]
(This statement was spoken by the greatly powerful, lotus-eyed one, engaged for the benefit of the son of Pandu in the killing of Saindhava.)
The lotus-eyed, greatly powerful one spoke this statement, engaged in the task of killing Saindhava for the benefit of the son of Pandu.
पार्थ पाशुपतं नाम परमास्त्रं सनातनम्। येन सर्वान्मृधे दैत्याञ्जघ्ने देवो महेश्वरः ॥७-५७-१६॥
pārtha pāśupataṃ nāma paramāstraṃ sanātanam। yena sarvān mṛdhe daityāñjaghne devo maheśvaraḥ ॥7-57-16॥
[पार्थ (pārtha) - O son of Pritha; पाशुपतं (pāśupataṃ) - Pashupata; नाम (nāma) - named; परमास्त्रं (paramāstraṃ) - supreme weapon; सनातनम् (sanātanam) - eternal; येन (yena) - by which; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; मृधे (mṛdhe) - in battle; दैत्यान् (daityān) - demons; जघ्ने (jaghne) - were slain; देवः (devaḥ) - the god; महेश्वरः (maheśvaraḥ) - Maheshvara;]
(O son of Pritha, the supreme weapon named Pashupata is eternal. By which all demons were slain in battle by the god Maheshvara.)
O son of Pritha, the eternal supreme weapon known as Pashupata was used by the god Maheshvara to slay all demons in battle.
यदि तद्विदितं तेऽद्य श्वो हन्तासि जयद्रथम्। अथ ज्ञातुं प्रपद्यस्व मनसा वृषभध्वजम् ॥७-५७-१७॥
yadi tadviditaṁ te'dya śvo hantāsi jayadratham। atha jñātuṁ prapadyasva manasā vṛṣabhadhvajam ॥7-57-17॥
[यदि (yadi) - if; तत् (tat) - that; विदितं (viditaṁ) - known; ते (te) - to you; अद्य (adya) - today; श्वः (śvaḥ) - tomorrow; हन्तासि (hantāsi) - you will kill; जयद्रथम् (jayadratham) - Jayadratha; अथ (atha) - then; ज्ञातुं (jñātuṁ) - to know; प्रपद्यस्व (prapadyasva) - surrender; मनसा (manasā) - with mind; वृषभध्वजम् (vṛṣabhadhvajam) - to Shiva;]
(If that is known to you today, tomorrow you will kill Jayadratha. Then, to know, surrender with mind to Shiva.)
If you know this today, you will kill Jayadratha tomorrow. Then, to understand, surrender your mind to Shiva.
तं देवं मनसा ध्यायञ्जोषमास्स्व धनञ्जय। ततस्तस्य प्रसादात्त्वं भक्तः प्राप्स्यसि तन्महत् ॥७-५७-१८॥
taṁ devaṁ manasā dhyāyañjoṣamāssva dhanañjaya। tatastasya prasādāttvaṁ bhaktaḥ prāpsyasi tanmahat ॥7-57-18॥
[तं (taṁ) - that; देवं (devaṁ) - god; मनसा (manasā) - with mind; ध्यायन् (dhyāyan) - meditating; जोषम् (joṣam) - silently; आस्स्व (āssva) - be; धनञ्जय (dhanañjaya) - Arjuna; ततः (tataḥ) - then; तस्य (tasya) - his; प्रसादात् (prasādāt) - by grace; त्वं (tvaṁ) - you; भक्तः (bhaktaḥ) - devotee; प्राप्स्यसि (prāpsyasi) - will obtain; तन्महत् (tanmahat) - that great;]
(Meditate on that god with your mind, be silent, O Arjuna. Then, by his grace, you will obtain that greatness.)
Meditate on that divine being with a focused mind, remain silent, O Arjuna. Through his grace, you will achieve that greatness.
ततः कृष्णवचः श्रुत्वा संस्पृश्याम्भो धनञ्जयः। भूमावासीन एकाग्रो जगाम मनसा भवम् ॥७-५७-१९॥
tataḥ kṛṣṇavacaḥ śrutvā saṃspṛśyāmbho dhanañjayaḥ। bhūmāvāsīna ekāgro jagāma manasā bhavam ॥7-57-19॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; कृष्ण (kṛṣṇa) - Krishna; वचः (vacaḥ) - words; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; संस्पृश्य (saṃspṛśya) - touching; अम्भः (ambhaḥ) - water; धनञ्जयः (dhanañjayaḥ) - Dhananjaya; भूमौ (bhūmau) - on the ground; आसीनः (āsīnaḥ) - sitting; एकाग्रः (ekāgraḥ) - with focused mind; जगाम (jagāma) - went; मनसा (manasā) - by mind; भवम् (bhavam) - to Shiva;]
(Then, having heard Krishna's words, Dhananjaya, touching water, sat on the ground with a focused mind and went to Shiva by mind.)
After hearing Krishna's words, Dhananjaya touched water, sat on the ground with a focused mind, and mentally approached Lord Shiva.
ततः प्रणिहिते ब्राह्मे मुहूर्ते शुभलक्षणे। आत्मानमर्जुनोऽपश्यद्गगने सहकेशवम् ॥७-५७-२०॥
tataḥ praṇihite brāhme muhūrte śubhalakṣaṇe। ātmānamarjuno'paśyadgagane sahakeśavam ॥7-57-20॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; प्रणिहिते (praṇihite) - in the fixed; ब्राह्मे (brāhme) - Brahma's; मुहूर्ते (muhūrte) - moment; शुभलक्षणे (śubhalakṣaṇe) - auspicious signs; आत्मानम् (ātmānam) - self; अर्जुनः (arjunaḥ) - Arjuna; अपश्यत् (apaśyat) - saw; गगने (gagane) - in the sky; सह (saha) - with; केशवम् (keśavam) - Keshava;]
(Then, in the fixed Brahma's moment with auspicious signs, Arjuna saw himself in the sky with Keshava.)

ज्योतिर्भिश्च समाकीर्णं सिद्धचारणसेवितम्। वायुवेगगतिः पार्थः खं भेजे सहकेशवः ॥७-५७-२१॥
jyotirbhiśca samākīrṇaṃ siddhacāraṇasevitam। vāyuvegagatiḥ pārthaḥ khaṃ bheje sahakeśavaḥ ॥7-57-21॥
[ज्योतिर्भिः (jyotirbhiḥ) - with lights; च (ca) - and; समाकीर्णं (samākīrṇam) - filled; सिद्ध (siddha) - perfected beings; चारण (cāraṇa) - celestial singers; सेवितम् (sevitam) - attended by; वायुवेगगतिः (vāyuvegagatiḥ) - speed like the wind; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - Arjuna; खं (khaṃ) - sky; भेजे (bheje) - entered; सह (saha) - with; केशवः (keśavaḥ) - Krishna;]
(With lights and filled, attended by perfected beings and celestial singers, Arjuna with the speed of the wind entered the sky with Krishna.)
Arjuna, accompanied by Krishna, entered the sky with the speed of the wind, surrounded by lights and attended by celestial beings and singers.

The supreme Brahman, manifest and the treasure of those who know Brahman, is the creator and destroyer of all that is moving and non-moving, revered by yogis.
कालकोपं महात्मानं शक्रसूर्यगुणोदयम्। अवन्दत तदा कृष्णो वाङ्मनोबुद्धिकर्मभिः ॥७-५७-४३॥
kālakopaṃ mahātmānaṃ śakrasūryaguṇodayam। avandata tadā kṛṣṇo vāṅmanobuddhikarmabhiḥ ॥7-57-43॥

ततोऽर्जुनः प्रीतमना ववन्दे वृषभध्वजम्। ददर्शोत्फुल्लनयनः समस्तं तेजसां निधिम् ॥७-५७-६०॥
tato'rjunaḥ prītamanā vavande vṛṣabhadhvajam। dadarśotphullanayanaḥ samastaṃ tejasāṃ nidhim ॥7-57-60॥

(Then Arjuna, with a pleased mind, bowed to Shiva. With blooming eyes, he saw the entire abode of splendors.)

taṁ copahāraṁ svakṛtaṁ naiśaṁ naityakamātmanaḥ। dadarśa tryambakābhyāśe vāsudevaniveditam ॥7-57-61॥

(Then, having worshipped Śarva (Shiva) and Krishna with his mind, the Pandava said to Shankara, "I desire a divine weapon.")

(In the lake indeed, the mighty lord released that arrow, and the hero made that bow again in that lake.)
The mighty lord released the arrow into the lake, and the hero once again prepared his bow in that very lake.
ततः प्रीतं भवं ज्ञात्वा स्मृतिमानर्जुनस्तदा। वरमारण्यकं दत्तं दर्शनं शङ्करस्य च ॥ मनसा चिन्तयामास तन्मे सम्पद्यतामिति ॥७-५७-७८॥
tataḥ prītaṃ bhavaṃ jñātvā smṛtimānarjunastadā। varamāraṇyakaṃ dattaṃ darśanaṃ śaṅkarasya ca ॥ manasā cintayāmāsa tanme sampadyatāmiti ॥7-57-78॥

(Then, knowing Lord Shiva was pleased, mindful Arjuna then thought in his mind, "May the boon given in the forest, the sight of Shankara, be fulfilled for me thus.")
Then, Arjuna, realizing that Lord Shiva was pleased, remembered the boon given in the forest and wished in his mind for the vision of Shankara to be fulfilled for him.
तस्य तन्मतमाज्ञाय प्रीतः प्रादाद्वरं भवः। तच्च पाशुपतं घोरं प्रतिज्ञायाश्च पारणम् ॥७-५७-७९॥
tasya tanmatamājñāya prītaḥ prādādvaraṃ bhavaḥ। tacca pāśupataṃ ghoraṃ pratijñāyāśca pāraṇam ॥7-57-79॥
[तस्य (tasya) - his; तन्मतम् (tanmatam) - that opinion; आज्ञाय (ājñāya) - having understood; प्रीतः (prītaḥ) - pleased; प्रादात् (prādāt) - gave; वरम् (varam) - boon; भवः (bhavaḥ) - Lord Shiva; तत् (tat) - that; च (ca) - and; पाशुपतम् (pāśupatam) - Pashupata weapon; घोरम् (ghoram) - terrible; प्रतिज्ञायाः (pratijñāyāḥ) - of the vow; च (ca) - and; पारणम् (pāraṇam) - fulfillment;]
(Having understood his opinion, pleased, Lord Shiva gave a boon. And that terrible Pashupata weapon, and the fulfillment of the vow.)
Understanding his wish, Lord Shiva, pleased, granted him a boon and the dreadful Pashupata weapon, fulfilling his vow.
संहृष्टरोमा दुर्धर्षः कृतं कार्यममन्यत। ववन्दतुश्च संहृष्टौ शिरोभ्यां तौ महेश्वरम् ॥७-५७-८०॥
saṁhṛṣṭaromā durdharṣaḥ kṛtaṁ kāryam amanyata। vavandatuś ca saṁhṛṣṭau śirobhyāṁ tau maheśvaram ॥7-57-80॥
[संहृष्टरोमा (saṁhṛṣṭaromā) - with bristling hair; दुर्धर्षः (durdharṣaḥ) - invincible; कृतम् (kṛtam) - done; कार्यम् (kāryam) - task; अमन्यत (amanyata) - thought; ववन्दतुः (vavandatuḥ) - bowed; च (ca) - and; संहृष्टौ (saṁhṛṣṭau) - joyful; शिरोभ्याम् (śirobhyām) - with their heads; तौ (tau) - they both; महेश्वरम् (maheśvaram) - to Lord Shiva;]
(With bristling hair, the invincible one thought the task was done. They both joyfully bowed with their heads to Lord Shiva.)
With excitement and invincibility, he believed the task was accomplished. Both of them bowed their heads in reverence to Lord Shiva.
अनुज्ञातौ क्षणे तस्मिन्भवेनार्जुनकेशवौ। प्राप्तौ स्वशिबिरं वीरौ मुदा परमया युतौ ॥ इन्द्राविष्णू यथा प्रीतौ जम्भस्य वधकाङ्क्षिणौ ॥७-५७-८१॥
anujñātau kṣaṇe tasminbhavenārjunakeśavau। prāptau svaśibiraṃ vīrau mudā paramayā yutau ॥ indrāviṣṇū yathā prītau jambhasya vadhakāṅkṣiṇau ॥7-57-81॥

(Permitted in that moment by Bhava, Arjuna and Keshava arrived at their camp, the heroes endowed with supreme joy, like Indra and Vishnu pleased, desiring the slaying of Jambha.)
In that moment, permitted by Lord Shiva, Arjuna and Krishna returned to their camp, filled with immense joy, like Indra and Vishnu, eager to slay the demon Jambha.
