नाकुलिस्तु शतानीकः सौमदत्तिं नरर्षभम्। द्वाभ्यां विद्ध्वानदद्धृष्टः शराभ्यां शत्रुतापनः ॥७-८३-३॥

तथेतरे रणे यत्तास्त्रिभिस्त्रिभिरजिह्मगैः। विव्यधुः समरे तूर्णं सौमदत्तिममर्षणम् ॥७-८३-४॥

स तान्प्रति महाराज चिक्षिपे पञ्च सायकान्। एकैकं हृदि चाजघ्ने एकैकेन महायशाः ॥७-८३-५॥

(Arjuna, however, angrily sent his horses with four sharp arrows towards the abode of Yama.)

(Bhaimaseni, having cut the bow of the great soul Saumadatti, roared a mighty sound and pierced with sharp arrows.)
Bhaimaseni, after cutting the bow of the noble Saumadatti, let out a powerful roar and struck with sharp arrows.
यौधिष्ठिरो ध्वजं तस्य छित्त्वा भूमावपातयत्। नाकुलिश्चाश्वयन्तारं रथनीडादपाहरत् ॥७-८३-९॥
yaudhiṣṭhiro dhvajaṃ tasya chittvā bhūmāvapātayat. nākuliścāśvayantāraṃ rathanīḍādapāharat ॥7-83-9॥

तच्छिरो न्यपतद्भूमौ तपनीयविभूषितम्। भ्राजयन्तं रणोद्देशं बालसूर्यसमप्रभम् ॥७-८३-११॥
tacchiro nyapatadbhūmau tapanīyavibhūṣitam। bhrājayantaṃ raṇoddeśaṃ bālasūryasamaprabham ॥7-83-11॥

सौमदत्तेः शिरो दृष्ट्वा निपतत्तन्महात्मनः। वित्रस्तास्तावका राजन्प्रदुद्रुवुरनेकधा ॥७-८३-१२॥

(Having seen the head of Saumadatta, that great soul, falling, your men, terrified, O king, fled in various directions.)
Upon witnessing the fall of the great Saumadatta's head, your soldiers, struck with fear, scattered in all directions, O king.
अलम्बुसस्तु समरे भीमसेनं महाबलम्। योधयामास सङ्क्रुद्धो लक्ष्मणं रावणिर्यथा ॥७-८३-१३॥
alambusastu samare bhīmasenaṁ mahābalam। yodhayāmāsa saṅkruddho lakṣmaṇaṁ rāvaṇiryathā ॥7-83-13॥
[अलम्बुसः (alambusaḥ) - Alambusa; तु (tu) - but; समरे (samare) - in battle; भीमसेनं (bhīmasenaṁ) - Bhimasena; महाबलम् (mahābalam) - mighty; योधयामास (yodhayāmāsa) - fought; सङ्क्रुद्धः (saṅkruddhaḥ) - angrily; लक्ष्मणं (lakṣmaṇaṁ) - Lakshmana; रावणिः (rāvaṇiḥ) - Ravana's son; यथा (yathā) - like;]
(Alambusa, but in battle, fought Bhimasena, the mighty, angrily, like Ravana's son Lakshmana.)

सम्प्रयुद्धौ रणे दृष्ट्वा तावुभौ नरराक्षसौ। विस्मयः सर्वभूतानां प्रहर्षश्चाभवत्तदा ॥७-८३-१४॥
samprayuddhau raṇe dṛṣṭvā tāvubhau nararākṣasau। vismayaḥ sarvabhūtānāṃ praharṣaścābhavattadā ॥7-83-14॥

(Having seen those two, man and demon, engaged in battle in the battlefield, astonishment and joy arose among all beings then.)
When those two, the man and the demon, were seen engaged in battle, all beings were filled with astonishment and joy at that time.
आर्ष्यशृङ्गिं ततो भीमो नवभिर्निशितैः शरैः। विव्याध प्रहसन्राजन्राक्षसेन्द्रममर्षणम् ॥७-८३-१५॥
ārṣyaśṛṅgiṃ tato bhīmo navabhirniśitaiḥ śaraiḥ। vivyādha prahasanrājanrākṣasendramamarṣaṇam ॥7-83-15॥

(Then Bhima, smiling, pierced Arshyasringa with nine sharp arrows, O king, the intolerant lord of demons.)

तद्रक्षः समरे विद्धं कृत्वा नादं भयावहम्। अभ्यद्रवत्ततो भीमं ये च तस्य पदानुगाः ॥७-८३-१६॥
tad rakṣaḥ samare viddhaṃ kṛtvā nādaṃ bhayāvaham। abhyadravattato bhīmaṃ ye ca tasya padānugāḥ ॥7-83-16॥

(That demon, having been wounded in battle, made a terrifying sound and then charged at Bhima and his followers.)
The demon, wounded in battle, let out a terrifying roar and then charged towards Bhima and his followers.
स भीमं पञ्चभिर्विद्ध्वा शरैः संनतपर्वभिः। भीमानुगाञ्जघानाशु रथांस्त्रिंशदरिंदमः ॥ पुनश्चतुःशतान्हत्वा भीमं विव्याध पत्रिणा ॥७-८३-१७॥
sa bhīmaṃ pañcabhirviddhvā śaraiḥ saṃnataparvabhiḥ। bhīmānugāñjaghānāśu rathāṃstriṃśadariṃdamaḥ ॥ punaścatuḥśatānhatvā bhīmaṃ vivyādha patriṇā ॥7-83-17॥

(He, having pierced Bhima with five arrows with bent joints, quickly killed the thirty chariots of Bhima's followers. Again, having killed four hundred, he pierced Bhima with an arrow.)

सोऽतिविद्धस्तदा भीमो राक्षसेन महाबलः। निषसाद रथोपस्थे मूर्छयाभिपरिप्लुतः ॥७-८३-१८॥
so'tividdhastadā bhīmo rākṣasena mahābalaḥ। niṣasāda rathopasthe mūrchayābhipariplutaḥ ॥7-83-18॥

प्रतिलभ्य ततः सञ्ज्ञां मारुतिः क्रोधमूर्छितः। विकृष्य कार्मुकं घोरं भारसाधनमुत्तमम् ॥ अलम्बुसं शरैस्तीक्ष्णैरर्दयामास सर्वतः ॥७-८३-१९॥
pratilabhya tataḥ sañjñāṃ mārutiḥ krodhamūrchitaḥ। vikṛṣya kārmukaṃ ghoraṃ bhārasādhanamuttamam ॥ alambusaṃ śaraistīkṣṇairardayāmāsa sarvataḥ ॥7-83-19॥
[प्रतिलभ्य (pratilabhya) - having regained; ततः (tataḥ) - then; सञ्ज्ञाम् (sañjñām) - consciousness; मारुतिः (mārutiḥ) - Hanuman; क्रोधमूर्छितः (krodhamūrchitaḥ) - overcome with anger; विकृष्य (vikṛṣya) - drawing; कार्मुकम् (kārmukam) - bow; घोरम् (ghoram) - terrible; भारसाधनम् (bhārasādhanam) - capable of bearing weight; उत्तमम् (uttamam) - excellent; अलम्बुसम् (alambusam) - Alambusa; शरैः (śaraiḥ) - with arrows; तीक्ष्णैः (tīkṣṇaiḥ) - sharp; अर्दयामास (ardayāmāsa) - pierced; सर्वतः (sarvataḥ) - from all sides;]
(Having regained consciousness, Hanuman, overcome with anger, drew his terrible, excellent bow capable of bearing weight and pierced Alambusa with sharp arrows from all sides.)
Upon regaining his senses, Hanuman, filled with rage, drew his formidable and mighty bow and attacked Alambusa with sharp arrows from every direction.
स विद्धो बहुभिर्बाणैर्नीलाञ्जनचयोपमः। शुशुभे सर्वतो राजन्प्रदीप्त इव किंशुकः ॥७-८३-२०॥
sa viddho bahubhirbāṇairnīlāñjanacayopamaḥ। śuśubhe sarvato rājanpradīpta iva kiṃśukaḥ ॥7-83-20॥

(He, pierced by many arrows, shone all around like a heap of black collyrium, blazing like a Butea tree.)

स वध्यमानः समरे भीमचापच्युतैः शरैः। स्मरन्भ्रातृवधं चैव पाण्डवेन महात्मना ॥७-८३-२१॥
