अनुकर्षैः पताकाभिः शिरस्त्राणैः सकाञ्चनैः। बाहुभिश्चन्दनादिग्धैः साङ्गदैश्च विशां पते ॥७-८८-१०॥

तपनीयमयैर्योक्त्रैर्मुक्ताजालविभूषितैः। उरश्छदैर्विचित्रैश्च व्यशोभन्त तुरङ्गमाः ॥ गतसत्त्वा महीं प्राप्य प्रमृष्टा दीर्घबाहुना ॥७-८८-१४॥
tapanīyamayairyoktrairmuktājālavibhūṣitaiḥ। uraśchadairvicitraiśca vyaśobhanta turaṅgamāḥ ॥ gatasattvā mahīṃ prāpya pramṛṣṭā dīrghabāhunā ॥7-88-14॥

(Having slain your various kinds of armies, Sātvata (Krishna) entered your army, having greatly routed the troops.)

ततस्तेनैव मार्गेण येन यातो धनञ्जयः। इयेष सात्यकिर्गन्तुं ततो द्रोणेन वारितः ॥७-८८-१६॥

भरद्वाजं समासाद्य युयुधानस्तु मारिष। नाभ्यवर्तत सङ्क्रुद्धो वेलामिव जलाशयः ॥७-८८-१७॥

(Then, having made a lion's roar, Satyaki pierced Drona with ten arrows, and with six and eight others indeed.)

ध्वजमेकेन बाणेन विव्याध युधि मारिष ॥७-८८-२२॥

तथैव युयुधानोऽपि द्रोणं बहुभिराशुगैः। प्राच्छादयदसम्भ्रान्तस्ततो द्रोण उवाच ह ॥७-८८-२४॥
tathaiva yuyudhāno'pi droṇaṃ bahubhirāśugaiḥ। prācchādayadasambhrāntastato droṇa uvāca ha ॥7-88-24॥

तवाचार्यो रणं हित्वा गतः कापुरुषो यथा। युध्यमानं हि मां हित्वा प्रदक्षिणमवर्तत ॥७-८८-२५॥
tavācāryo raṇaṃ hitvā gataḥ kāpuruṣo yathā। yudhyamānaṃ hi māṃ hitvā pradakṣiṇamavartata ॥7-88-25॥
[तव (tava) - your; आचार्यः (ācāryaḥ) - teacher; रणम् (raṇam) - battle; हित्वा (hitvā) - having abandoned; गतः (gataḥ) - went; कापुरुषः (kāpuruṣaḥ) - coward; यथा (yathā) - like; युध्यमानम् (yudhyamānam) - fighting; हि (hi) - indeed; माम् (mām) - me; हित्वा (hitvā) - having abandoned; प्रदक्षिणम् (pradakṣiṇam) - circumambulation; अवर्तत (avartata) - turned;]
(Your teacher, having abandoned the battle, went like a coward. Indeed, having abandoned me fighting, he turned in circumambulation.)
Your teacher left the battlefield like a coward, abandoning the fight. Indeed, he left me while I was fighting and turned around in a circumambulation.
त्वं हि मे युध्यतो नाद्य जीवन्मोक्ष्यसि माधव। यदि मां त्वं रणे हित्वा न यास्याचार्यवद्द्रुतम् ॥७-८८-२६॥
tvaṁ hi me yudhyato nādya jīvanmokṣyasi mādhava। yadi māṁ tvaṁ raṇe hitvā na yāsyācāryavaddrutam ॥7-88-26॥

(You indeed will not release me alive today, Madhava, if you, having left me in battle, will not go quickly like a teacher.)
Madhava, you will not let me live today if you leave me in battle and do not quickly proceed like a teacher.

द्रोणः करिष्यते यत्नं सर्वथा मम वारणे। यत्तो याहि रणे सूत शृणु चेदं वचः परम् ॥७-८८-२९॥
droṇaḥ kariṣyate yatnaṃ sarvathā mama vāraṇe। yatto yāhi raṇe sūta śṛṇu cedaṃ vacaḥ param ॥7-88-29॥

एतदालोक्यते सैन्यमावन्त्यानां महाप्रभम्। अस्यानन्तरतस्त्वेतद्दाक्षिणात्यं महाबलम् ॥७-८८-३०॥

तदनन्तरमेतच्च बाह्लिकानां बलं महत्। बाह्लिकाभ्याशतो युक्तं कर्णस्यापि महद्बलम् ॥७-८८-३१॥
tadanantarametacca bāhlikānāṃ balaṃ mahat। bāhlikābhyāśato yuktaṃ karṇasyāpi mahadbalam ॥7-88-31॥
[तदनन्तरम् (tadanantaram) - thereafter; एतत् (etat) - this; च (ca) - and; बाह्लिकानाम् (bāhlikānām) - of the Bahlika; बलम् (balam) - force; महत् (mahat) - great; बाह्लिकाभ्याशतः (bāhlikābhyāśataḥ) - near the Bahlika; युक्तम् (yuktam) - joined; कर्णस्य (karṇasya) - of Karna; अपि (api) - also; महत् (mahat) - great; बलम् (balam) - force;]

अन्योन्येन हि सैन्यानि भिन्नान्येतानि सारथे। अन्योन्यं समुपाश्रित्य न त्यक्ष्यन्ति रणाजिरम् ॥७-८८-३२॥
anyonyena hi sainyāni bhinnānyetāni sārthe। anyonyaṃ samupāśritya na tyakṣyanti raṇājiram ॥7-88-32॥

(Indeed, O charioteer, these armies, divided by each other, will not abandon the battlefield, relying upon each other.)

एतदन्तरमासाद्य चोदयाश्वान्प्रहृष्टवत्। मध्यमं जवमास्थाय वह मामत्र सारथे ॥७-८८-३३॥
etadantaram āsādya codaya aśvān prahṛṣṭavat। madhyamaṃ javam āsthāya vaha mām atra sārthe ॥7-88-33॥

bāhlikā yatra dṛśyante nānāpraharaṇodyatāḥ। dākṣiṇātyāśca bahavaḥ sūtaputrapurogamāḥ ॥7-88-34॥

In that place, the Bahlika people, equipped with various weapons, are visible, along with many southerners led by the son of a charioteer.
हस्त्यश्वरथसम्बाधं यच्चानीकं विलोक्यते। नानादेशसमुत्थैश्च पदातिभिरधिष्ठितम् ॥७-८८-३५॥
hastyaśvarathasambādhaṃ yaccānīkaṃ vilokyate। nānādeśasamutthaiśca padātibhiradhiṣṭhitam ॥7-88-35॥
[हस्ति (hasti) - elephant; अश्व (aśva) - horse; रथ (ratha) - chariot; सम्बाधं (sambādhaṃ) - crowded; यत् (yat) - which; च (ca) - and; अनीकं (anīkaṃ) - army; विलोक्यते (vilokyate) - is seen; नाना (nānā) - various; देश (deśa) - regions; समुत्थैः (samutthaiḥ) - arisen; च (ca) - and; पदातिभिः (padātibhiḥ) - by foot soldiers; अधिष्ठितम् (adhiṣṭhitam) - occupied;]
(The army, crowded with elephants, horses, and chariots, which is seen, is occupied by foot soldiers arisen from various regions.)
The army, teeming with elephants, horses, and chariots, is observed to be filled with foot soldiers hailing from various regions.
एतावदुक्त्वा यन्तारं ब्रह्माणं परिवर्जयन्। स व्यतीयाय यत्रोग्रं कर्णस्य सुमहद्बलम् ॥७-८८-३६॥
etāvad uktvā yantāraṃ brahmāṇaṃ parivarjayan। sa vyatīyāya yatrograṃ karṇasya sumahadbalam ॥7-88-36॥

After saying this, he avoided Brahma, spoke to the charioteer, and went to where Karna's great and fierce strength was.
तं द्रोणोऽनुययौ क्रुद्धो विकिरन्विशिखान्बहून्। युयुधानं महाबाहुं गच्छन्तमनिवर्तिनम् ॥७-८८-३७॥
taṁ droṇo'nuyayau kruddho vikiranviśikhānbahūn। yuyudhānaṁ mahābāhuṁ gacchantamanivartinam ॥7-88-37॥

(Droṇa, angry, followed him, scattering many arrows, towards Yuyudhāna, the mighty-armed, who was going without turning back.)

कर्णस्य सैन्यं सुमहदभिहत्य शितैः शरैः। प्राविशद्भारतीं सेनामपर्यन्तां स सात्यकिः ॥७-८८-३८॥
karṇasya sainyaṃ sumahadabhihatya śitaiḥ śaraiḥ। prāviśadbhāratīṃ senāmaparyantāṃ sa sātyakiḥ ॥7-88-38॥

tamāpatantaṃ viśikhaiḥ ṣaḍbhirāhatya sātyakiḥ। caturbhiścaturo'syāśvānājaghānāśu vīryavān ॥7-88-40॥

(Satyaki, having struck him approaching with six arrows, quickly killed his four horses with four (arrows), the valiant one.)

स वत्सदन्तं सन्धाय जिह्मगानलसंनिभम्। आकृष्य राजन्नाकर्णाद्विव्याधोरसि सात्यकिम् ॥७-८८-४३॥
sa vatsadantaṃ sandhāya jihmagānalasaṃnibham। ākṛṣya rājannākarṇādvivyādhorasi sātyakim ॥7-88-43॥
