ātmāparādhātsambhūtaṃ vyasanaṃ bharatarṣabhaḥ। prāpya prākṛtavadvīra na tvaṃ śocitumarhasi ॥7-90-1॥

(O best of the Bharatas, having obtained a calamity arisen from one's own fault, you, O hero, ought not to grieve like an ordinary person.)
O best of the Bharatas, you should not grieve like an ordinary person upon encountering a calamity that has arisen from your own fault, O hero.
तव निर्गुणतां ज्ञात्वा पक्षपातं सुतेषु च। द्वैधीभावं तथा धर्मे पाण्डवेषु च मत्सरम् ॥ आर्तप्रलापांश्च बहून्मनुजाधिपसत्तम ॥७-९०-२॥
tava nirguṇatāṃ jñātvā pakṣapātaṃ suteṣu ca। dvaidhībhāvaṃ tathā dharme pāṇḍaveṣu ca matsaram ॥ ārta-pralāpāṃśca bahūnmanujādhipasattama ॥7-90-2॥

(Having known your lack of qualities, partiality towards sons, duplicity in duty, and envy towards the Pandavas, and many distressed lamentations, O best of human kings.)
O best of human kings, having realized your lack of virtues, favoritism towards your sons, duplicity in matters of duty, and jealousy towards the Pandavas, along with many distressed lamentations.
सर्वलोकस्य तत्त्वज्ञः सर्वलोकगुरुः प्रभुः। वासुदेवस्ततो युद्धं कुरूणामकरोन्महत् ॥७-९०-३॥
sarvalokasya tattvajñaḥ sarvalokaguruḥ prabhuḥ। vāsudevastato yuddhaṃ kurūṇāmakaronmahat ॥7-90-3॥

(The knower of truth of all worlds, the teacher of all worlds, the lord Vasudeva then made a great war of the Kurus.)
Vasudeva, the lord and teacher of all worlds, who knows the truth of all, then initiated a great war among the Kurus.
आत्मापराधात्सुमहान्प्राप्तस्ते विपुलः क्षयः। न हि ते सुकृतं किञ्चिदादौ मध्ये च भारत ॥ दृश्यते पृष्ठतश्चैव त्वन्मूलो हि पराजयः ॥७-९०-४॥

(Due to your own fault, you have obtained a very great and abundant destruction. Indeed, no good deed of yours is seen in the beginning, middle, or end, O Bhārata. Your defeat is indeed rooted from behind.)
O Bhārata, because of your own fault, you have encountered a significant downfall. There is no good deed of yours visible from the start, in the middle, or at the end. Your defeat is indeed rooted from behind.
तस्मादद्य स्थिरो भूत्वा ज्ञात्वा लोकस्य निर्णयम्। शृणु युद्धं यथा वृत्तं घोरं देवासुरोपमम् ॥७-९०-५॥
tasmādadya sthiro bhūtvā jñātvā lokasya nirṇayam। śṛṇu yuddhaṃ yathā vṛttaṃ ghoraṃ devāsuropamam ॥7-90-5॥

(Therefore, today, having become steady and having known the decision of the world, listen to the battle as it happened, terrible like gods and demons.)

प्रविष्टे तव सैन्यं तु शैनेये सत्यविक्रमे। भीमसेनमुखाः पार्थाः प्रतीयुर्वाहिनीं तव ॥७-९०-६॥

(When your army entered, led by Śaineya, truthful and valiant, the sons of Pṛthā, headed by Bhīmasena, advanced towards your army.)
As your army, led by the truthful and valiant Śaineya, entered, the sons of Pṛthā, with Bhīmasena at the forefront, moved forward to confront your forces.
आगच्छतस्तान्सहसा क्रुद्धरूपान्सहानुगान्। दधारैको रणे पाण्डून्कृतवर्मा महारथः ॥७-९०-७॥
āgacchatas tān sahasā kruddharūpān sahānugān। dadhāraiko raṇe pāṇḍūn kṛtavarmā mahārathaḥ ॥7-90-7॥

(Coming suddenly with angry forms and followers, Kṛtavarmā, the great chariot warrior, held the Pāṇḍavas in battle.)

(Just as the shore holds back the overflowing ocean, so did Hārdikya restrain Pandu's army in battle.)

तत्राद्भुतममन्यन्त हार्दिक्यस्य पराक्रमम्। यदेनं सहिताः पार्था नातिचक्रमुराहवे ॥७-९०-९॥
tatrādbhutamamanyanta hārdikyasya parākramam। yadenaṃ sahitāḥ pārthā nāticakramurāhave ॥7-90-9॥

(There, they thought the valor of Hārdikya was wonderful, that the sons of Pṛthā together could not overpower him in battle.)

ततो भीमस्त्रिभिर्विद्ध्वा कृतवर्माणमायसैः। शङ्खं दध्मौ महाबाहुर्हर्षयन्सर्वपाण्डवान् ॥७-९०-१०॥
tato bhīmastribhirviddhvā kṛtavarmāṇamāyasaiḥ। śaṅkhaṃ dadhmau mahābāhurharṣayansarvapāṇḍavān ॥7-90-10॥

(Kritavarma then, O king, from all sides, having pierced those great charioteers, each one with five arrows, pierced Bhima with seven. Skillfully, he caused the bow and the banner to fall from the chariot to the ground.)

(Then, the great chariot-warrior, hastening, struck him, whose bow was cut, on the chest with seventy sharp arrows in anger.)

(He, deeply pierced and strong, by the excellent arrows of Hārdikya, shook like a mountain situated in the middle of the chariot during an earthquake.)

(Thus, O dear, imprisoning him with the chariot army, they joyfully pierced with arrows for the protection of the son of the wind in the battle.)
