एको हि समरे कर्म कृतवान्सत्यविक्रमः। शक्रतुल्यबलो युद्धे महेन्द्रो दानवेष्विव ॥७-१००-२॥

अथ वा शून्यमासीत्तद्येन यातः स सात्यकिः। एको वै बहुलाः सेनाः प्रमृद्नन्पुरुषर्षभः ॥७-१००-३॥
atha vā śūnyam āsīt tad yena yātaḥ sa sātyakiḥ। eko vai bahulāḥ senāḥ pramṛdnan puruṣarṣabhaḥ ॥7-100-3॥

राजन्सेनासमुद्योगो रथनागाश्वपत्तिमान्। तुमुलस्तव सैन्यानां युगान्तसदृशोऽभवत् ॥७-१००-५॥
rājansenāsamudyogo rathanāgāśvapattimān। tumulastava sainyānāṃ yugāntasadṛśo'bhavat ॥7-100-5॥

(O king, the preparation of the army with chariots, elephants, horses, and infantry was uproarious, like the end of an era for your armies.)
O king, your army's preparation with chariots, elephants, horses, and infantry was tumultuous, resembling the end of an era.
आह्णिकेषु समूहेषु तव सैन्यस्य मानद। नास्ति लोके समः कश्चित्समूह इति मे मतिः ॥७-१००-६॥
āhṇikeṣu samūheṣu tava sainyasya mānada। nāsti loke samaḥ kaścitsamūha iti me matiḥ ॥7-100-6॥

(In daily assemblies and gatherings, O giver of honor, there is no group in the world equal to your army, thus is my opinion.)

तत्र देवाः स्म भाषन्ते चारणाश्च समागताः। एतदन्ताः समूहा वै भविष्यन्ति महीतले ॥७-१००-७॥

(There, gods indeed speak, and bards assembled. These ends, indeed, groups will be on earth.)

न चैव तादृशः कश्चिद्व्यूह आसीद्विशां पते। यादृग्जयद्रथवधे द्रोणेन विहितोऽभवत् ॥७-१००-८॥
na caiva tādṛśaḥ kaścidvyūha āsīdviśāṃ pate। yādṛgjayadrathavadhe droṇena vihito'bhavat ॥7-100-8॥

(And indeed, O lord of men, there was no such formation as was arranged by Drona for the killing of Jayadratha.)

चण्डवाताभिपन्नानां समुद्राणामिव स्वनः। रणेऽभवद्बलौघानामन्योन्यमभिधावताम् ॥७-१००-९॥

(The sound was like that of oceans afflicted by fierce winds, in the battle of the multitude of forces attacking each other.)

संरब्धानां प्रवीराणां समरे दृढकर्मणाम्। तत्रासीत्सुमहाञ्शब्दस्तुमुलो लोमहर्षणः ॥७-१००-११॥

अथाक्रन्दद्भीमसेनो धृष्टद्युम्नश्च मारिष। नकुलः सहदेवश्च धर्मराजश्च पाण्डवः ॥७-१००-१२॥

(Come, strike, run around strongly. Indeed, the heroes Madhava and Pandava have entered the enemy army.)

यथा सुखेन गच्छेतां जयद्रथवधं प्रति। तथा प्रकुरुत क्षिप्रमिति सैन्यान्यचोदयत् ॥ तयोरभावे कुरवः कृतार्थाः स्युर्वयं जिताः ॥७-१००-१४॥
yathā sukhena gacchetāṃ jayadrathavadhaṃ prati। tathā prakuruta kṣipramiti sainyānyacodayat ॥ tayorabhāve kuravaḥ kṛtārthāḥ syurvayaṃ jitāḥ ॥7-100-14॥
[यथा (yathā) - as; सुखेन (sukhena) - with ease; गच्छेतां (gacchetāṃ) - should go; जयद्रथवधं (jayadrathavadhaṃ) - to kill Jayadratha; प्रति (prati) - towards; तथा (tathā) - so; प्रकुरुत (prakuruta) - do; क्षिप्रम् (kṣipram) - quickly; इति (iti) - thus; सैन्यानि (sainyāni) - armies; अचोदयत् (acodayat) - urged; तयोः (tayoḥ) - of them; अभावे (abhāve) - in absence; कुरवः (kuravaḥ) - Kurus; कृतार्थाः (kṛtārthāḥ) - successful; स्युः (syuḥ) - would be; वयम् (vayam) - we; जिताः (jitāḥ) - defeated;]
(As they should go with ease towards the killing of Jayadratha, so do quickly, thus urged the armies. In their absence, the Kurus would be successful, and we defeated.)
The armies were urged to proceed quickly and easily towards the killing of Jayadratha. In the absence of these two, the Kurus would achieve success, and we would be defeated.
ते यूयं सहिता भूत्वा तूर्णमेव बलार्णवम्। क्षोभयध्वं महावेगाः पवनाः सागरं यथा ॥७-१००-१५॥
te yūyaṃ sahitā bhūtvā tūrṇameva balārṇavam। kṣobhayadhvaṃ mahāvegāḥ pavanāḥ sāgaraṃ yathā ॥7-100-15॥

(They, you all, having become together, quickly indeed agitate the ocean of strength with great speed, O winds, as the ocean.)

भीमसेनेन ते राजन्पाञ्चाल्येन च चोदिताः। आजघ्नुः कौरवान्सङ्ख्ये त्यक्त्वासूनात्मनः प्रियान् ॥७-१००-१६॥

(In the same way, your men, O king, desiring great fame, having made up their minds for noble battle, stood ready indeed for battle.)

तस्मिंस्तु तुमुले युद्धे वर्तमाने महाभये। हत्वा सर्वाणि सैन्यानि प्रायात्सात्यकिरर्जुनम् ॥७-१००-१९॥
tasmiṁstu tumule yuddhe vartamāne mahābhaye। hatvā sarvāṇi sainyāni prāyātsātyakirarjunam ॥7-100-19॥
[तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that; तु (tu) - but; तुमुले (tumule) - fierce; युद्धे (yuddhe) - battle; वर्तमाने (vartamāne) - ongoing; महाभये (mahābhaye) - great danger; हत्वा (hatvā) - having slain; सर्वाणि (sarvāṇi) - all; सैन्यानि (sainyāni) - armies; प्रायात् (prāyāt) - went; सात्यकि (sātyaki) - Satyaki; अर्जुनम् (arjunam) - to Arjuna;]
(In that fierce battle, which was ongoing and full of great danger, having slain all the armies, Satyaki went to Arjuna.)
In the midst of that fierce and dangerous battle, Satyaki, having defeated all the armies, proceeded towards Arjuna.
कवचानां प्रभास्तत्र सूर्यरश्मिविचित्रिताः। दृष्टीः सङ्ख्ये सैनिकानां प्रतिजघ्नुः समन्ततः ॥७-१००-२०॥
kavacānāṃ prabhāstatra sūryaraśmivicitr̥tāḥ। dṛṣṭīḥ saṅkhye sainikānāṃ pratijaghnuḥ samantataḥ ॥7-100-20॥
[कवचानाम् (kavacānām) - of the armors; प्रभाः (prabhāḥ) - the radiance; तत्र (tatra) - there; सूर्य (sūrya) - sun; रश्मि (raśmi) - rays; विचित्रिताः (vicitr̥tāḥ) - adorned; दृष्टीः (dṛṣṭīḥ) - sights; सङ्ख्ये (saṅkhye) - in the battle; सैनिकानाम् (sainikānām) - of the soldiers; प्रतिजघ्नुः (pratijaghnuḥ) - countered; समन्ततः (samantataḥ) - all around;]
(The radiance of the armors there, adorned with the sun's rays, countered the sights of the soldiers in the battle all around.)

(Thus, among the striving Pandavas, fearless Duryodhana, O great king, entered the great army.)

स संनिपातस्तुमुलस्तेषां तस्य च भारत। अभवत्सर्वसैन्यानामभावकरणो महान् ॥७-१००-२२॥
sa saṁnipātastumulasteṣāṁ tasya ca bhārata। abhavatsarvasainyānāmabhāvakaraṇo mahān ॥7-100-22॥

(He, O Bharata, the tumultuous collision of them and of him became the great cause of destruction of all armies.)
The tumultuous clash between them and him, O Bharata, became the great cause of destruction for all the armies.

तथा गतेषु सैन्येषु तथा कृच्छ्रगतः स्वयम्। कच्चिद्दुर्योधनः सूत नाकार्षीत्पृष्ठतो रणम् ॥७-१००-२३॥

दुर्योधनेन सहसा पाण्डवी पृतना रणे। नलिनी द्विरदेनेव समन्ताद्विप्रलोडिता ॥७-१००-२७॥

(Then King Duryodhana, firmly taking up his bow, approached the Pāṇḍava, saying "Stand, stand thus, O king.")

tāndroṇaḥ pratijagrāha parīpsanyudhi pāṇḍavam। caṇḍavātoddhutānmeghānsajalānacalo yathā ॥7-100-38॥
