vyūheṣvāloḍyamāneṣu pāṇḍavānāṃ tatastataḥ। sudūramanvayuḥ pārthāḥ pāñcālāḥ saha somakaiḥ ॥7-102-1॥
[व्यूहेषु (vyūheṣu) - in the formations; आलोड्यमानेषु (āloḍyamāneṣu) - being attacked; पाण्डवानां (pāṇḍavānāṃ) - of the Pandavas; ततः (tataḥ) - then; ततः (tataḥ) - thereafter; सुदूरम् (sudūram) - far away; अन्वयुः (anvayuḥ) - followed; पार्थाः (pārthāḥ) - the sons of Pritha; पाञ्चालाः (pāñcālāḥ) - the Panchalas; सह (saha) - with; सोमकैः (somakaiḥ) - the Somakas;]
(In the formations being attacked of the Pandavas, then thereafter, far away followed the sons of Pritha, the Panchalas with the Somakas.)

वर्तमाने तथा रौद्रे सङ्ग्रामे लोमहर्षणे। प्रक्षये जगतस्तीव्रे युगान्त इव भारत ॥७-१०२-२॥

O Bhārata, in the current fierce and terrifying battle, it feels as if the world is undergoing a destruction as intense as the end of an age.
द्रोणे युधि पराक्रान्ते नर्दमाने मुहुर्मुहुः। पाञ्चालेषु च क्षीणेषु वध्यमानेषु पाण्डुषु ॥७-१०२-३॥

Yudhishthira, the king of righteousness, found no refuge and pondered, "O king, how will this situation unfold?"
तत्रावेक्ष्य दिशः सर्वाः सव्यसाचिदिदृक्षया। युधिष्ठिरो ददर्शाथ नैव पार्थं न माधवम् ॥७-१०२-५॥
tatrāvekṣya diśaḥ sarvāḥ savyasācididṛkṣayā। yudhiṣṭhiro dadarśātha naiva pārthaṃ na mādhavam ॥7-102-5॥

सोऽपश्यन्नरशार्दूलं वानरर्षभलक्षणम्। गाण्डीवस्य च निर्घोषमशृण्वन्व्यथितेन्द्रियः ॥७-१०२-६॥
so'paśyannaraśārdūlaṃ vānararṣabhalakṣaṇam। gāṇḍīvasya ca nirghoṣamaśṛṇvanvyathitendriyaḥ ॥7-102-6॥

(Seeing Satyaki, the foremost chariot of the Vṛṣṇis, overwhelmed with thought, Dharmaraja Yudhishthira did not attain peace then, seeing those two bulls among men.)
Yudhishthira, overwhelmed with thoughts, saw Satyaki, the foremost among the Vṛṣṇis, and their chariot. Despite seeing those two great warriors, he could not find peace at that moment.
लोकोपक्रोशभीरुत्वाद्धर्मराजो महायशाः। अचिन्तयन्महाबाहुः शैनेयस्य रथं प्रति ॥७-१०२-८॥
lokopakrośabhīrutvāddharmarājo mahāyaśāḥ। acintayanmahābāhuḥ śaineyasya rathaṃ prati ॥7-102-8॥

(Due to the fear of the world's lamentation, the greatly renowned Dharmaraja, the mighty-armed, thought towards the chariot of Shainya.)
Fearing the lamentation of the world, the illustrious Dharmaraja, with his mighty arms, contemplated approaching Shainya's chariot.
पदवीं प्रेषितश्चैव फल्गुनस्य मया रणे। शैनेयः सात्यकिः सत्यो मित्राणामभयङ्करः ॥७-१०२-९॥
padavīṃ preṣitaścaiva phalgunasya mayā raṇe। śaineyaḥ sātyakiḥ satyo mitrāṇāmabhayaṅkaraḥ ॥7-102-9॥

तदिदं ह्येकमेवासीद्द्विधा जातं ममाद्य वै। सात्यकिश्च हि मे ज्ञेयः पाण्डवश्च धनञ्जयः ॥७-१०२-१०॥
tadidaṁ hyekamevāsīddvidhā jātaṁ mamādya vai। sātyakiśca hi me jñeyaḥ pāṇḍavaśca dhanañjayaḥ ॥7-102-10॥

(That indeed was only one, born in two today, indeed my Satyaki and my known Pandava Dhananjaya.)
Today, what was once one has become two: my Satyaki and the Pandava known as Dhananjaya.
सात्यकिं प्रेषयित्वा तु पाण्डवस्य पदानुगम्। सात्वतस्यापि कं युद्धे प्रेषयिष्ये पदानुगम् ॥७-१०२-११॥
sātyakiṃ preṣayitvā tu pāṇḍavasya padānugam। sātvatasya api kaṃ yuddhe preṣayiṣye padānugam ॥7-102-11॥

करिष्यामि प्रयत्नेन भ्रातुरन्वेषणं यदि। युयुधानमनन्विष्य लोको मां गर्हयिष्यति ॥७-१०२-१२॥
kariṣyāmi prayatnena bhrāturanveṣaṇaṁ yadi। yuyudhānamananviṣya loko māṁ garhayiṣyati ॥7-102-12॥

After searching for his brother, King Yudhishthira, the son of Dharma, decides to leave behind Satyaki, the valiant descendant of Vrishni.
लोकापवादभीरुत्वात्सोऽहं पार्थं वृकोदरम्। पदवीं प्रेषयिष्यामि माधवस्य महात्मनः ॥७-१०२-१४॥

(Just as my affection is in Arjuna, the enemy-slayer, so indeed it is also in the hero of the Vṛṣṇis, Sātvata, the battle-furious one.)

अतिभारे नियुक्तश्च मया शैनेयनन्दनः। स तु मित्रोपरोधेन गौरवाच्च महाबलः ॥ प्रविष्टो भारतीं सेनां मकरः सागरं यथा ॥७-१०२-१६॥

(This indeed is heard, the sound of heroes who do not retreat, mutually fighting with the wise Vṛṣṇi hero.)
The sound of the brave warriors who never retreat is heard as they engage in battle with the wise hero of the Vṛṣṇi clan.
प्राप्तकालं सुबलवन्निश्चित्य बहुधा हि मे। तत्रैव पाण्डवेयस्य भीमसेनस्य धन्विनः ॥ गमनं रोचते मह्यं यत्र यातौ महारथौ ॥७-१०२-१८॥
prāptakālaṃ subalavanniścitya bahudhā hi me। tatraiva pāṇḍaveyasya bhīmasenasya dhanvinaḥ ॥ gamanaṃ rocate mahyaṃ yatra yātau mahārathau ॥7-102-18॥

(Having decided the appropriate time like Subala, indeed in many ways, my going there pleases me, where the great charioteers, the archer Bhimasena of the Pandava, have gone.)

न चाप्यसह्यं भीमस्य विद्यते भुवि किञ्चन। शक्तो ह्येष रणे यत्तान्पृथिव्यां सर्वधन्विनः ॥ स्वबाहुबलमास्थाय प्रतिव्यूहितुमञ्जसा ॥७-१०२-१९॥
na cāpyasahyaṃ bhīmasya vidyate bhuvi kiñcana। śakto hyeṣa raṇe yattānpṛthivyāṃ sarvadhanvinaḥ ॥ svabāhubalamāsthāya prativyūhitumañjasā ॥7-102-19॥
[न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; असह्यं (asahyaṃ) - unbearable; भीमस्य (bhīmasya) - of Bhima; विद्यते (vidyate) - exists; भुवि (bhuvi) - on earth; किञ्चन (kiñcana) - anything; शक्तः (śaktaḥ) - capable; हि (hi) - indeed; एषः (eṣaḥ) - he; रणे (raṇe) - in battle; यत्तान् (yattān) - engaged; पृथिव्यां (pṛthivyāṃ) - on earth; सर्वधन्विनः (sarvadhanvinaḥ) - all archers; स्वबाहुबलम् (svabāhubalam) - own arm strength; आस्थाय (āsthāya) - relying on; प्रतिव्यूहितुम् (prativyūhitum) - to counter; अञ्जसा (añjasā) - easily;]
(And there is nothing on earth unbearable for Bhima. Indeed, he is capable of countering all archers on earth in battle, relying on his own arm strength easily.)

यस्य बाहुबलं सर्वे समाश्रित्य महात्मनः। वनवासान्निवृत्ताः स्म न च युद्धेषु निर्जिताः ॥७-१०२-२०॥
yasya bāhubalaṃ sarve samāśritya mahātmanaḥ। vanavāsānnivṛttāḥ sma na ca yuddheṣu nirjitāḥ ॥7-102-20॥
[यस्य (yasya) - whose; बाहुबलं (bāhubalam) - strength of arms; सर्वे (sarve) - all; समाश्रित्य (samāśritya) - having resorted to; महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - of the great soul; वनवासात् (vanavāsāt) - from exile; निवृत्ताः (nivṛttāḥ) - returned; स्म (sma) - indeed; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; युद्धेषु (yuddheṣu) - in battles; निर्जिताः (nirjitāḥ) - defeated;]
(Whose strength of arms all having resorted to, the great soul, returned from exile indeed, not defeated in battles.)
All relied on his strength of arms, and the great soul returned from exile undefeated in battles.

(The chariot which formerly carried Brahma, Shiva, Indra, and Varuna, having mounted that, Krishna and Arjuna went, and there is no fear for them.)

आज्ञां तु शिरसा बिभ्रदेष गच्छामि मा शुचः। समेत्य तान्नरव्याघ्रांस्तव दास्यामि संविदम् ॥७-१०२-४४॥

(Thus, having spoken, he departed, having entrusted Yudhishthira to Dhrishtadyumna, the strong one, and to friends again and again. Bhimasena, the mighty, said this to Dhrishtadyumna.)
After saying this, he left, entrusting Yudhishthira to the strong Dhrishtadyumna and his friends repeatedly. Bhimasena, the mighty, spoke these words to Dhrishtadyumna.
विदितं ते महाबाहो यथा द्रोणो महारथः। ग्रहणे धर्मराजस्य सर्वोपायेन वर्तते ॥७-१०२-४६॥
viditaṃ te mahābāho yathā droṇo mahārathaḥ। grahaṇe dharmarājasya sarvopāyena vartate ॥7-102-46॥
[विदितं (viditaṃ) - known; ते (te) - to you; महाबाहो (mahābāho) - O mighty-armed one; यथा (yathā) - as; द्रोणः (droṇaḥ) - Drona; महारथः (mahārathaḥ) - great chariot-warrior; ग्रहणे (grahaṇe) - in the capture; धर्मराजस्य (dharmarājasya) - of Yudhishthira; सर्वोपायेन (sarvopāyena) - by all means; वर्तते (vartate) - is engaged;]
(It is known to you, O mighty-armed one, how Drona, the great chariot-warrior, is engaged by all means in the capture of Yudhishthira.)
You are aware, O mighty-armed one, that Drona, the great chariot-warrior, is fully committed to capturing Yudhishthira by any means necessary.
न च मे गमने कृत्यं तादृक्पार्षत विद्यते। यादृशं रक्षणे राज्ञः कार्यमात्ययिकं हि नः ॥७-१०२-४७॥
na ca me gamane kṛtyaṃ tādṛkpārṣata vidyate। yādṛśaṃ rakṣaṇe rājñaḥ kāryamātyayikaṃ hi naḥ ॥7-102-47॥

(And there is no duty for me in going, such as exists for Pārṣata, as there is an urgent duty indeed for us in protecting the king.)

evamukto'smi pārthena prativaktuṃ sma notsahe। prayāsye tatra yatrāsau mumūrṣuḥ saindhavaḥ sthitaḥ ॥ dharmarājasya vacane sthātavyamaviśaṅkayā ॥7-102-48॥

(Thus spoken by Pārtha, I am indeed not capable to reply. I will go there where that Saindhava, desiring to die, is situated. In the words of Dharmaraja, one should stand without doubt.)
Having been spoken to by Pārtha in this manner, I am indeed unable to reply. I shall go to the place where Saindhava, who wishes to die, is located. One must adhere to the words of Dharmaraja without any doubt.
सोऽद्य यत्तो रणे पार्थं परिरक्ष युधिष्ठिरम्। एतद्धि सर्वकार्याणां परमं कृत्यमाहवे ॥७-१०२-४९॥
so'dya yatto raṇe pārthaṃ parirakṣa yudhiṣṭhiram। etaddhi sarvakāryāṇāṃ paramaṃ kṛtyamāhave ॥7-102-49॥
[सः (saḥ) - he; अद्य (adya) - today; यत्तः (yattaḥ) - engaged; रणे (raṇe) - in battle; पार्थम् (pārtham) - Arjuna; परिरक्ष (parirakṣa) - protect; युधिष्ठिरम् (yudhiṣṭhiram) - Yudhishthira; एतत् (etat) - this; हि (hi) - indeed; सर्वकार्याणाम् (sarvakāryāṇām) - of all tasks; परमम् (paramam) - supreme; कृत्यम् (kṛtyam) - duty; आहवे (āhave) - in battle;]

(Dhṛṣṭadyumna said to him, O great king Vṛkodara, go with the desired, O mighty-armed one, without hesitation, O son of Pṛthā.)
Dhṛṣṭadyumna addressed Vṛkodara, saying, "O great king, proceed with your desire, O mighty-armed one, without hesitation, O son of Pṛthā."
नाहत्वा समरे द्रोणो धृष्टद्युम्नं कथञ्चन। निग्रहं धर्मराजस्य प्रकरिष्यति संयुगे ॥७-१०२-५१॥
nāhatvā samare droṇo dhṛṣṭadyumnaṃ kathaṃcana। nigrahaṃ dharmarājasya prakariṣyati saṃyuge ॥7-102-51॥

(Then, placing the king with Dhrishtadyumna, the Pandava, having saluted the eldest elder, departed where Arjuna was.)
