अहन्यहनि मे दीप्तं यशः पतति सञ्जय। हता मे बहवो योधा मन्ये कालस्य पर्ययम् ॥७-११५-१॥
ahanyahani me dīptaṃ yaśaḥ patati sañjaya। hatā me bahavo yodhā manye kālasya paryayam ॥7-115-1॥
[अहन्यहनि (ahanyahani) - day by day; मे (me) - my; दीप्तं (dīptaṃ) - brilliant; यशः (yaśaḥ) - fame; पतति (patati) - falls; सञ्जय (sañjaya) - Sanjaya; हता (hatā) - killed; मे (me) - my; बहवः (bahavaḥ) - many; योधाः (yodhāḥ) - warriors; मन्ये (manye) - I think; कालस्य (kālasya) - of time; पर्ययम् (paryayam) - the turn;]
(Day by day, my brilliant fame falls, O Sanjaya. Many of my warriors have been killed; I think it is the turn of time.)
Day by day, my brilliant fame diminishes, O Sanjaya. I believe many of my warriors have been slain; it seems to be the inevitable turn of time.
धनञ्जयस्तु सङ्क्रुद्धः प्रविष्टो मामकं बलम्। रक्षितं द्रोणकर्णाभ्यामप्रवेश्यं सुरैरपि ॥७-११५-२॥
dhanañjayastu saṅkruddhaḥ praviṣṭo māmakaṃ balam। rakṣitaṃ droṇakarṇābhyāmapraveśyaṃ surairapi ॥7-115-2॥
[धनञ्जयः (dhanañjayaḥ) - Arjuna; तु (tu) - but; सङ्क्रुद्धः (saṅkruddhaḥ) - enraged; प्रविष्टः (praviṣṭaḥ) - entered; मामकं (māmakaṃ) - my; बलम् (balam) - army; रक्षितं (rakṣitam) - protected; द्रोणकर्णाभ्याम् (droṇakarṇābhyām) - by Drona and Karna; अप्रवेश्यं (apraveśyam) - impenetrable; सुरैः (suraiḥ) - by the gods; अपि (api) - even;]
(But Arjuna, enraged, entered my army, protected by Drona and Karna, impenetrable even by the gods.)

ताभ्यामूर्जितवीर्याभ्यामाप्यायितपराक्रमः। सहितः कृष्णभीमाभ्यां शिनीनामृषभेण च ॥७-११५-३॥
tābhyām ūrjitavīryābhyām āpyāyitaparākramaḥ। sahitaḥ kṛṣṇabhīmābhyāṃ śinīnām ṛṣabheṇa ca ॥7-115-3॥

(By those two mighty ones, invigorated with strength and valor, accompanied by Krishna, by Bhima, and by the bull of the Shinis.)

तदा प्रभृति मा शोको दहत्यग्निरिवाशयम्। ग्रस्तान्हि प्रतिपश्यामि भूमिपालान्ससैन्धवान् ॥७-११५-४॥
tadā prabhṛti mā śoko dahatyagnirivāśayam। grastānhi pratipaśyāmi bhūmipālānsasaindhavān ॥7-115-4॥
[तदा (tadā) - then; प्रभृति (prabhṛti) - from that time; मा (mā) - me; शोकः (śokaḥ) - sorrow; दहति (dahati) - burns; अग्निः (agniḥ) - fire; इव (iva) - like; आशयम् (āśayam) - mind; ग्रस्तान् (grastān) - seized; हि (hi) - indeed; प्रतिपश्यामि (pratipaśyāmi) - I see; भूमिपालान् (bhūmipālān) - kings; ससैन्धवान् (sasaindhavān) - with the Sindhus;]
(Then from that time, sorrow burns me like fire in the mind. Indeed, I see the kings seized with the Sindhus.)
"From that time onwards, sorrow has consumed my mind like a fire. I see the kings, along with the Sindhus, being overwhelmed."
अप्रियं सुमहत्कृत्वा सिन्धुराजः किरीटिनः। चक्षुर्विषयमापन्नः कथं मुच्येत जीवितः ॥७-११५-५॥
apriyaṃ sumahatkṛtvā sindhurājaḥ kirīṭinaḥ। cakṣurviṣayamāpannaḥ kathaṃ mucyeta jīvitaḥ ॥7-115-5॥
[अप्रियं (apriyam) - unpleasant; सुमहत् (sumahat) - very great; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having done; सिन्धुराजः (sindhurājaḥ) - the king of Sindhu; किरीटिनः (kirīṭinaḥ) - of the crowned one; चक्षुः (cakṣuḥ) - sight; विषयम् (viṣayam) - range; आपन्नः (āpannaḥ) - having come into; कथम् (katham) - how; मुच्येत (mucyeta) - can be freed; जीवितः (jīvitaḥ) - alive;]
(Having done something very unpleasant, the king of Sindhu, having come into the sight of the crowned one, how can he be freed alive?)
The king of Sindhu, after committing a very unpleasant act, has come into the sight of the crowned one. How can he escape with his life?
अनुमानाच्च पश्यामि नास्ति सञ्जय सैन्धवः। युद्धं तु तद्यथा वृत्तं तन्ममाचक्ष्व पृच्छतः ॥७-११५-६॥
anumānācca paśyāmi nāsti sañjaya saindhavaḥ। yuddhaṃ tu tadyathā vṛttaṃ tanmamācakṣva pṛcchataḥ ॥7-115-6॥

यच्च विक्षोभ्य महतीं सेनां संलोड्य चासकृत्। एकः प्रविष्टः सङ्क्रुद्धो नलिनीमिव कुञ्जरः ॥७-११५-७॥
yacca vikṣobhya mahatīṃ senāṃ saṃloḍya cāsakṛt। ekaḥ praviṣṭaḥ saṅkruddho nalinīmiva kuñjaraḥ ॥7-115-7॥

(Which, having agitated the great army and crushed it repeatedly, one entered angrily like an elephant into a lotus pond.)

(Tell the battle of the Vrishni hero as it was, for the sake of Dhananjaya, as you are indeed skillful, Sanjaya.)

तथा तु वैकर्तनपीडितं तं; भीमं प्रयान्तं पुरुषप्रवीरम्। समीक्ष्य राजन्नरवीरमध्ये; शिनिप्रवीरोऽनुययौ रथेन ॥७-११५-९॥
tathā tu vaikartanapīḍitaṃ taṃ; bhīmaṃ prayāntaṃ puruṣapravīram। samīkṣya rājannaravīramadhye; śinipravīro'nuyayau rathena ॥7-115-9॥
[तथा (tathā) - thus; तु (tu) - but; वैकर्तन (vaikartana) - Karna; पीडितं (pīḍitaṃ) - afflicted; तं (taṃ) - that; भीमं (bhīmaṃ) - Bhima; प्रयान्तं (prayāntaṃ) - advancing; पुरुषप्रवीरम् (puruṣapravīram) - hero among men; समीक्ष्य (samīkṣya) - seeing; राजन् (rājan) - O king; नरवीरमध्ये (naravīramadhye) - among the heroes; शिनिप्रवीरः (śinipravīraḥ) - Satyaki; अनुययौ (anuyayau) - followed; रथेन (rathena) - by chariot;]
(Thus, but Karna afflicted that Bhima advancing, hero among men. Seeing, O king, among the heroes, Satyaki followed by chariot.)

नदन्यथा वज्रधरस्तपान्ते; ज्वलन्यथा जलदान्ते च सूर्यः। निघ्नन्नमित्रान्धनुषा दृढेन; सङ्कम्पयंस्तव पुत्रस्य सेनाम् ॥७-११५-१०॥
nadanyathā vajradharastapānte; jvalanyathā jaladānte ca sūryaḥ। nighnannamitrāndhanuṣā dṛḍhena; saṅkampayaṃstava putrasya senām ॥7-115-10॥
[न (na) - not; अन्यथा (anyathā) - otherwise; वज्रधरः (vajradharaḥ) - Vajradhara; तपान्ते (tapānte) - at the end of penance; ज्वलन्यथा (jvalanyathā) - like fire; जलदान्ते (jaladānte) - at the end of the rainy season; च (ca) - and; सूर्यः (sūryaḥ) - the sun; निघ्नन् (nighnan) - destroying; अमित्रान् (amitrān) - enemies; धनुषा (dhanuṣā) - with a bow; दृढेन (dṛḍhena) - firm; सङ्कम्पयन् (saṅkampayan) - shaking; तव (tava) - your; पुत्रस्य (putrasya) - son's; सेनाम् (senām) - army;]
(Not otherwise is Vajradhara at the end of penance; like fire at the end of the rainy season is the sun. Destroying enemies with a firm bow; shaking your son's army.)

तं यान्तमश्वै रजतप्रकाशै; रायोधने नरवीरं चरन्तम्। नाशक्नुवन्वारयितुं त्वदीयाः; सर्वे रथा भारत माधवाग्र्यम् ॥७-११५-११॥
taṁ yāntamaśvai rajataprakāśai; rāyodhane naravīraṁ carantam। nāśaknuvanvārayituṁ tvadīyāḥ; sarve rathā bhārata mādhavāgryam ॥7-115-11॥

(Him going with horses shining like silver in the battlefield, the heroic man moving, your chariots, O Bharata, were not able to stop, all Madhava's foremost.)
As he proceeded with horses shining like silver in the battlefield, the heroic warrior moved forward, and none of your chariots, O Bharata, could stop the foremost Madhava.
अमर्षपूर्णस्त्वनिवृत्तयोधी; शरासनी काञ्चनवर्मधारी। अलम्बुसः सात्यकिं माधवाग्र्य; मवारयद्राजवरोऽभिपत्य ॥७-११५-१२॥
amarṣapūrṇastvanivṛttayodhī; śarāsanī kāñcanavarmadhārī। alambusaḥ sātyakiṃ mādhavāgrya; mavārayadrājavaro'bhipatya ॥7-115-12॥
[अमर्षपूर्णः (amarṣapūrṇaḥ) - filled with anger; त्वनिवृत्तयोधी (tvanivṛttayodhī) - not retreating from battle; शरासनी (śarāsanī) - with a bow; काञ्चनवर्मधारी (kāñcanavarmadhārī) - wearing golden armor; अलम्बुसः (alambusaḥ) - Alambusa; सात्यकिं (sātyakiṃ) - Satyaki; माधवाग्र्य (mādhavāgrya) - foremost of the Madhavas; मवारयत् (mavārayat) - stopped; राजवरः (rājavaraḥ) - the best of kings; अभिपत्य (abhipatya) - having attacked;]
(Filled with anger, not retreating from battle, with a bow, wearing golden armor, Alambusa attacked and stopped Satyaki, the foremost of the Madhavas, by the best of kings.)

[तयोः (tayoḥ) - of them; अभूत् (abhūt) - there was; भारत (bhārata) - O Bharata; सम्प्रहारः (samprabhāraḥ) - battle; स्तथागतः (stathāgataḥ) - thus gone; न (na) - not; एव (eva) - indeed; बभूव (babhūva) - became; कश्चित् (kaścit) - anyone; प्रैक्षन्त (praikṣanta) - saw; एव (eva) - indeed; अहवशोभिनौ (ahavaśobhinau) - battle-glorious; तौ (tau) - those two; योधाः (yodhāḥ) - warriors; त्वदीयाः (tvadīyāḥ) - your; च (ca) - and; परे (pare) - others; च (ca) - and; सर्वे (sarve) - all;]
(Of them, O Bharata, there was a battle; thus gone, indeed, no one became. Indeed, all the warriors, both yours and others, saw those two battle-glorious.)

अविध्यदेनं दशभिः पृषत्कै; रलम्बुसो राजवरः प्रसह्य। अनागतानेव तु तान्पृषत्कां; श्चिच्छेद बाणैः शिनिपुङ्गवोऽपि ॥७-११५-१४॥

[अविध्यत् (avidyat) - pierced; एनम् (enam) - him; दशभिः (daśabhiḥ) - with ten; पृषत्कैः (pṛṣatkaiḥ) - arrows; रलम्बुसः (ralambusaḥ) - Ralambusa; राजवरः (rājavaraḥ) - the best of kings; प्रसह्य (prasahya) - forcibly; अनागतान् (anāgatān) - approaching; एव (eva) - indeed; तु (tu) - but; तान् (tān) - those; पृषत्कान् (pṛṣatkān) - arrows; चिच्छेद (ciccheda) - cut off; बाणैः (bāṇaiḥ) - with arrows; शिनिपुङ्गवः (śinipuṅgavaḥ) - the best of the Shinis; अपि (api) - also;]
(Ralambusa, the best of kings, forcibly pierced him with ten arrows; but the best of the Shinis also cut off those approaching arrows with his own arrows.)
Ralambusa, the eminent king, struck him forcefully with ten arrows; however, the distinguished warrior of the Shinis intercepted and cut down those incoming arrows with his own.
पुनः स बाणैस्त्रिभिरग्निकल्पै; राकर्णपूर्णैर्निशितैः सुपुङ्खैः। विव्याध देहावरणं विदार्य; ते सात्यकेराविविशुः शरीरम् ॥७-११५-१५॥

[पुनः (punaḥ) - again; सः (saḥ) - he; बाणैः (bāṇaiḥ) - with arrows; त्रिभिः (tribhiḥ) - three; अग्निकल्पैः (agnikalpaiḥ) - like fire; राकर्णपूर्णैः (rākarṇapūrṇaiḥ) - up to the ear; निशितैः (niśitaiḥ) - sharp; सुपुङ्खैः (supuṅkhaiḥ) - well-feathered; विव्याध (vivyādha) - pierced; देहावरणम् (dehāvaraṇam) - body armor; विदार्य (vidārya) - tearing; ते (te) - they; सात्यकेः (sātyakeḥ) - of Satyaki; आविविशुः (āviśuḥ) - entered; शरीरम् (śarīram) - body;]
(Again, he pierced the body armor with three fire-like, ear-reaching, sharp, well-feathered arrows, tearing it apart; they entered Satyaki's body.)
Once more, he shot three arrows that were like fire, reaching up to the ears, sharp and well-feathered, piercing through the body armor and entering Satyaki's body.
तैः कायमस्याग्न्यनिलप्रभावै; र्विदार्य बाणैरपरैर्ज्वलद्भिः। आजघ्निवांस्तान्रजतप्रकाशा; नश्वांश्चतुर्भिश्चतुरः प्रसह्य ॥७-११५-१६॥
taiḥ kāyamasyaagnyanilaprabhaavai; rvidārya bāṇairaparairjvaladbhiḥ। ājaghnivāṃstānrajataprakāśā; naśvāṃścaturbhiścaturaḥ prasahya ॥7-115-16॥
[तैः (taiḥ) - by them; कायम् (kāyam) - body; अस्य (asya) - his; अग्नि (agni) - fire; अनिल (anila) - wind; प्रभावैः (prabhāvaiḥ) - by the influences; विदार्य (vidārya) - having pierced; बाणैः (bāṇaiḥ) - with arrows; अपरैः (aparaiḥ) - other; ज्वलद्भिः (jvaladbhiḥ) - blazing; आजघ्निवान् (ājaghnivān) - struck; तान् (tān) - them; रजत (rajata) - silver; प्रकाशान् (prakāśān) - shining; अश्वान् (aśvān) - horses; चतुर्भिः (caturbhiḥ) - with four; चतुरः (caturaḥ) - four; प्रसह्य (prasahya) - forcibly;]
(By them, having pierced his body with the influences of fire and wind, with other blazing arrows, they struck those shining silver horses forcibly with four (arrows).)

तथा तु तेनाभिहतस्तरस्वी; नप्ता शिनेश्चक्रधरप्रभावः। अलम्बुसस्योत्तमवेगवद्भि; र्हयांश्चतुर्भिर्निजघान बाणैः ॥७-११५-१७॥

[तथा (tathā) - thus; तु (tu) - but; तेन (tena) - by him; अभिहतः (abhihataḥ) - struck; तरस्वी (tarasvī) - the energetic one; नप्ता (naptā) - grandson; शिनेः (śineḥ) - of Śini; चक्रधरप्रभावः (cakradharaprabhāvaḥ) - of the one with the power of the discus-holder; अलम्बुसस्य (alambusasya) - of Alambusa; उत्तमवेगवद्भिः (uttamavegavadbhiḥ) - with those of excellent speed; हयान् (hayān) - horses; चतुर्भिः (caturbhiḥ) - with four; निजघान (nijaghāna) - he struck down; बाणैः (bāṇaiḥ) - with arrows;]
(Thus, but struck by him, the energetic one, the grandson of Śini, with the power of the discus-holder, struck down the horses of Alambusa with four arrows of excellent speed.)
Thus, the energetic grandson of Śini, empowered by the discus-holder, struck down Alambusa's horses with four swift arrows, despite being struck himself.
अथास्य सूतस्य शिरो निकृत्य; भल्लेन कालानलसंनिभेन। सकुण्डलं पूर्णशशिप्रकाशं; भ्राजिष्णु वक्त्रं निचकर्त देहात् ॥७-११५-१८॥
athāsya sūtasya śiro nikṛtya; bhallena kālānalasaṁnibhena। sakuṇḍalaṁ pūrṇaśaśiprakāśaṁ; bhrājiṣṇu vaktraṁ nicakarta dehāt ॥7-115-18॥
[अथ (atha) - then; अस्य (asya) - his; सूतस्य (sūtasya) - charioteer's; शिरः (śiraḥ) - head; निकृत्य (nikṛtya) - having cut off; भल्लेन (bhallena) - with an arrow; कालानल (kālānala) - like the fire of time; संनिभेन (saṁnibhena) - resembling; सकुण्डलम् (sakuṇḍalam) - with earrings; पूर्ण (pūrṇa) - full; शशि (śaśi) - moon; प्रकाशम् (prakāśam) - shining; भ्राजिष्णु (bhrājiṣṇu) - brilliant; वक्त्रम् (vaktram) - face; निचकर्त (nicakarta) - cut off; देहात् (dehāt) - from the body;]
(Then, having cut off the charioteer's head with an arrow resembling the fire of time, he cut off the brilliant face, shining like the full moon and with earrings, from the body.)

निहत्य तं पार्थिवपुत्रपौत्रं; सङ्ख्ये मधूनामृषभः प्रमाथी। ततोऽन्वयादर्जुनमेव वीरः; सैन्यानि राजंस्तव संनिवार्य ॥७-११५-१९॥
nihatya taṃ pārthivaputrapautraṃ; saṅkhye madhūnāṃṛṣabhaḥ pramāthī। tato'nvayādarjunameva vīraḥ; sainyāni rājaṃstava saṃnivārya ॥7-115-19॥

(Having killed him, the son and grandson of the king, in battle, the bull of the Madhus, the destroyer, then approached Arjuna only, the hero, having restrained your armies, O king.)
After slaying the son and grandson of the king in battle, the mighty warrior, the bull among the Madhus, turned towards Arjuna, having held back your armies, O king.
अन्वागतं वृष्णिवरं समीक्ष्य; तथारिमध्ये परिवर्तमानम्। घ्नन्तं कुरूणामिषुभिर्बलानि; पुनः पुनर्वायुरिवाभ्रपूगान् ॥७-११५-२०॥
anvāgataṃ vṛṣṇivaraṃ samīkṣya; tathārimadhye parivartamānam। ghnantaṃ kurūṇāmiṣubhirbalāni; punaḥ punarvāyurivābhrapūgān ॥7-115-20॥
[अन्वागतं (anvāgatam) - arrived; वृष्णिवरं (vṛṣṇivaram) - the best of the Vṛṣṇis; समीक्ष्य (samīkṣya) - having seen; तथा (tathā) - thus; अरिमध्ये (arimadhye) - in the midst of enemies; परिवर्तमानम् (parivartamānam) - moving around; घ्नन्तं (ghnantam) - slaying; कुरूणाम् (kurūṇām) - of the Kurus; इषुभिः (iṣubhiḥ) - with arrows; बलानि (balāni) - the forces; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; वायुः (vāyuḥ) - wind; इव (iva) - like; अभ्रपूगान् (abhrapūgān) - clouds;]
(Having seen the best of the Vṛṣṇis arrived, moving around in the midst of enemies, slaying the forces of the Kurus with arrows again and again like the wind (scatters) clouds.)
Upon seeing the best of the Vṛṣṇis arrive and move amidst the enemies, repeatedly striking the Kuru forces with arrows like the wind disperses clouds.
ततोऽवहन्सैन्धवाः साधु दान्ता; गोक्षीरकुन्देन्दुहिमप्रकाशाः। सुवर्णजालावतताः सदश्वा; यतो यतः कामयते नृसिंहः ॥७-११५-२१॥

(Then they brought good, tamed horses, shining like cow's milk, jasmine, moon, and snow, covered with a net of gold, from wherever Nṛsiṃha desired.)

(Then your sons, along with the swift warriors, attacked in the battlefield, having made Duḥśāsana, your son, the chief warrior at the forefront, O Bharata, descendant of Ajamīḍha.)
