tamudyataṃ mahābāhuṃ duḥśāsanarathaṃ prati। tvaritaṃ tvaraṇīyeṣu dhanañjayahitaiṣiṇam ॥7-116-1॥

(That great-armed one, raised towards Duhshasana's chariot, swift among the swift, desiring Arjuna's welfare.)
The great-armed warrior, eager to protect Arjuna, swiftly advanced towards Duhshasana's chariot.
त्रिगर्तानां महेष्वासाः सुवर्णविकृतध्वजाः। सेनासमुद्रमाविष्टमानर्तं पर्यवारयन् ॥७-११६-२॥
trigartānāṃ maheṣvāsāḥ suvarṇavikṛtadhvajāḥ। senāsamudramāviṣṭamānartaṃ paryavārayan ॥7-116-2॥

अथैनं रथवंशेन सर्वतः संनिवार्य ते। अवाकिरञ्शरव्रातैः क्रुद्धाः परमधन्विनः ॥७-११६-३॥

अजयद्राजपुत्रांस्तान्यतमानान्महारणे। एकः पञ्चाशतं शत्रून्सात्यकिः सत्यविक्रमः ॥७-११६-४॥

सम्प्राप्य भारतीमध्यं तलघोषसमाकुलम्। असिशक्तिगदापूर्णमप्लवं सलिलं यथा ॥७-११६-५॥

(Having reached the middle of Bharata, filled with the sound of drums, like water full of swords, spears, and maces, without boats.)
Upon reaching the central region of Bharata, which was resonant with the sound of drums and akin to water teeming with swords, spears, and maces, yet devoid of boats.
तत्राद्भुतमपश्याम शैनेयचरितं रणे। प्रतीच्यां दिशि तं दृष्ट्वा प्राच्यां पश्याम लाघवात् ॥७-११६-६॥
tatrādbhutamapaśyāma śaineyacaritaṃ raṇe। pratīcyāṃ diśi taṃ dṛṣṭvā prācyāṃ paśyāma lāghavāt ॥7-116-6॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; अद्भुतम् (adbhutam) - wonderful; अपश्याम (apaśyāma) - we saw; शैनेयचरितम् (śaineyacaritam) - the act of Satyaki; रणे (raṇe) - in battle; प्रतीच्याम् (pratīcyām) - in the western; दिशि (diśi) - direction; तम् (tam) - him; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; प्राच्याम् (prācyām) - in the eastern; पश्याम (paśyāma) - we see; लाघवात् (lāghavāt) - quickly;]
(There we saw the wonderful act of Satyaki in battle. Having seen him in the western direction, we quickly see him in the eastern.)
There, in the battle, we witnessed the astonishing deeds of Satyaki. Observing him in the west, we quickly saw him in the east.
उदीचीं दक्षिणां प्राचीं प्रतीचीं प्रसृतस्तथा। नृत्यन्निवाचरच्छूरो यथा रथशतं तथा ॥७-११६-७॥
udīcīṃ dakṣiṇāṃ prācīṃ pratīcīṃ prasṛtastathā। nṛtyannivācaracchūro yathā rathaśataṃ tathā ॥7-116-7॥
[उदीचीं (udīcīṃ) - northward; दक्षिणां (dakṣiṇāṃ) - southward; प्राचीं (prācīṃ) - eastward; प्रतीचीं (pratīcīṃ) - westward; प्रसृतः (prasṛtaḥ) - spread; तथा (tathā) - thus; नृत्यन् (nṛtyan) - dancing; इव (iva) - as if; अचरच्छूरः (acaraśchūraḥ) - moved the hero; यथा (yathā) - as; रथशतं (rathaśataṃ) - hundred chariots; तथा (tathā) - so; ॥७-११६-७॥ (॥7-116-7॥) - (verse number);]
(Northward, southward, eastward, westward, thus spread. Dancing as if moved the hero, as a hundred chariots, so.)
The hero moved in all directions—north, south, east, and west—spreading as if dancing, just like a hundred chariots.
तद्दृष्ट्वा चरितं तस्य सिंहविक्रान्तगामिनः। त्रिगर्ताः संन्यवर्तन्त सन्तप्ताः स्वजनं प्रति ॥७-११६-८॥
taddṛṣṭvā caritaṃ tasya siṃhavikrāntagāminaḥ। trigartāḥ saṃnyavartanta santaptāḥ svajanaṃ prati ॥7-116-8॥

(Having seen his conduct, with a lion-like stride, the Trigartas turned back, distressed, towards their own people.)
Upon witnessing his lion-like stride and conduct, the Trigartas, feeling distressed, retreated towards their own people.
तमन्ये शूरसेनानां शूराः सङ्ख्ये न्यवारयन्। नियच्छन्तः शरव्रातैर्मत्तं द्विपमिवाङ्कुशैः ॥७-११६-९॥
tamanye śūrasenānāṃ śūrāḥ saṅkhye nyavārayan। niyacchantaḥ śaravrātairmattaṃ dvipamivāṅkuśaiḥ ॥7-116-9॥
[तम् (tam) - him; अन्ये (anye) - others; शूरसेनानाम् (śūrasenānām) - of the Surasena army; शूराः (śūrāḥ) - heroes; सङ्ख्ये (saṅkhye) - in the battle; न्यवारयन् (nyavārayan) - stopped; नियच्छन्तः (niyacchantaḥ) - restraining; शरव्रातैः (śaravrātaiḥ) - with volleys of arrows; मत्तम् (mattam) - mad; द्विपम् (dvipam) - elephant; इव (iva) - like; अङ्कुशैः (aṅkuśaiḥ) - with hooks;]
(Others of the Surasena heroes stopped him in the battle, restraining with volleys of arrows, like a mad elephant with hooks.)

तान्न्यवारयदायस्तान्मुहूर्तमिव सात्यकिः। ततः कलिङ्गैर्युयुधे सोऽचिन्त्यबलविक्रमः ॥७-११६-१०॥
tānnyavārayadāyastānmuhūrtamiva sātyakiḥ। tataḥ kaliṅgairyuyudhe so'cintyabalavikramaḥ ॥7-116-10॥
[तान् (tān) - them; न्यवारयत् (nyavārayat) - stopped; आयस्तान् (āyastān) - exhausted; मुहूर्तम् (muhūrtam) - for a moment; इव (iva) - like; सात्यकिः (sātyakiḥ) - Satyaki; ततः (tataḥ) - then; कलिङ्गैः (kaliṅgaiḥ) - with the Kalingas; युयुधे (yuyudhe) - fought; सः (saḥ) - he; अचिन्त्य (acintya) - inconceivable; बल (bala) - strength; विक्रमः (vikramaḥ) - prowess;]
(Satyaki, exhausted, stopped them for a moment. Then he, with inconceivable strength and prowess, fought with the Kalingas.)
Satyaki, though exhausted, managed to halt them momentarily. Then, with his incredible strength and valor, he engaged in battle with the Kalingas.
तां च सेनामतिक्रम्य कलिङ्गानां दुरत्ययाम्। अथ पार्थं महाबाहुर्धनञ्जयमुपासदत् ॥७-११६-११॥
tāṃ ca senām atikramya kaliṅgānāṃ duratyayām। atha pārthaṃ mahābāhur dhanañjayam upāsadat ॥7-116-11॥
[ताम् (tām) - that; च (ca) - and; सेनाम् (senām) - army; अतिक्रम्य (atikramya) - having crossed; कलिङ्गानाम् (kaliṅgānām) - of the Kalingas; दुरत्ययाम् (duratyayām) - difficult to overcome; अथ (atha) - then; पार्थम् (pārtham) - to the son of Pritha; महाबाहुः (mahābāhuḥ) - the mighty-armed; धनञ्जयम् (dhanañjayam) - Dhananjaya; उपासदत् (upāsadat) - approached;]
(Having crossed that army of the Kalingas, which was difficult to overcome, then the mighty-armed approached Dhananjaya, the son of Pritha.)
After crossing the formidable army of the Kalingas, the mighty-armed warrior approached Arjuna, the son of Pritha.
तरन्निव जले श्रान्तो यथा स्थलमुपेयिवान्। तं दृष्ट्वा पुरुषव्याघ्रं युयुधानः समाश्वसत् ॥७-११६-१२॥
taranniva jale śrānto yathā sthalamupeyivān। taṃ dṛṣṭvā puruṣavyāghraṃ yuyudhānaḥ samāśvasat ॥7-116-12॥
[तरन् (taran) - swimming; इव (iva) - like; जले (jale) - in water; श्रान्तः (śrāntaḥ) - tired; यथा (yathā) - as; स्थलम् (sthalam) - land; उपेयिवान् (upeyivān) - reached; तम् (tam) - him; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - seeing; पुरुषव्याघ्रम् (puruṣavyāghram) - tiger among men; युयुधानः (yuyudhānaḥ) - Yuyudhana; समाश्वसत् (samāśvasat) - relaxed;]
(Swimming in water, tired, as one reaches land. Seeing him, the tiger among men, Yuyudhana relaxed.)
Like a tired swimmer reaching land, Yuyudhana, upon seeing the tiger among men, felt relieved.
तमायान्तमभिप्रेक्ष्य केशवोऽर्जुनमब्रवीत्। असावायाति शैनेयस्तव पार्थ पदानुगः ॥७-११६-१३॥
tamāyāntamabhiprekṣya keśavo'rjunamabravīt। asāvāyāti śaineyastava pārtha padānugaḥ ॥7-116-13॥
[तम् (tam) - him; आयान्तम् (āyāntam) - coming; अभिप्रेक्ष्य (abhiprekṣya) - having seen; केशवः (keśavaḥ) - Keshava; अर्जुनम् (arjunam) - Arjuna; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; असौ (asau) - he; आयाति (āyāti) - is coming; शैनेयः (śaineyaḥ) - Satyaki; तव (tava) - your; पार्थ (pārtha) - Partha; पदानुगः (padānugaḥ) - follower;]
(Having seen him coming, Keshava said to Arjuna, "He is coming, Satyaki, your follower, O Partha.")
Seeing him approach, Keshava said to Arjuna, "Here comes Satyaki, your follower, O Partha."
एष शिष्यः सखा चैव तव सत्यपराक्रमः। सर्वान्योधांस्तृणीकृत्य विजिग्ये पुरुषर्षभः ॥७-११६-१४॥
eṣa śiṣyaḥ sakhā caiva tava satyaparākramaḥ। sarvānyodhāṃstṛṇīkṛtya vijigye puruṣarṣabhaḥ ॥7-116-14॥
[एष (eṣa) - this; शिष्यः (śiṣyaḥ) - disciple; सखा (sakhā) - friend; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; तव (tava) - your; सत्यपराक्रमः (satyaparākramaḥ) - truly courageous; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; योधान् (yodhān) - warriors; तृणीकृत्य (tṛṇīkṛtya) - making insignificant; विजिग्ये (vijigye) - conquered; पुरुषर्षभः (puruṣarṣabhaḥ) - O best of men;]
(This disciple and friend of yours, truly courageous, having made all warriors insignificant, conquered, O best of men.)
This disciple and friend of yours, who is truly courageous, has conquered all the warriors by making them seem insignificant, O best of men.
एष कौरवयोधानां कृत्वा घोरमुपद्रवम्। तव प्राणैः प्रियतरः किरीटिन्नेति सात्यकिः ॥७-११६-१५॥
eṣa kauravayodhānāṃ kṛtvā ghoramupadravam। tava prāṇaiḥ priyataraḥ kirīṭinneti sātyakiḥ ॥7-116-15॥

(This Satyaki, having caused a terrible disturbance among the Kaurava warriors, is dearer to you than life, O crowned one, thus (he says).)

एष द्रोणं तथा भोजं कृतवर्माणमेव च। कदर्थीकृत्य विशिखैः फल्गुनाभ्येति सात्यकिः ॥७-११६-१६॥

After accomplishing a challenging task amidst the army, the powerful Satyaki seeks your presence and approaches the Pandavas.
बहूनेकरथेनाजौ योधयित्वा महारथान्। आचार्यप्रमुखान्पार्थ आयात्येष हि सात्यकिः ॥७-११६-१९॥

Satyaki, having fought many great warriors in battle with just one chariot, including those led by the teacher, is now approaching, O son of Pritha.
स्वबाहुबलमाश्रित्य विदार्य च वरूथिनीम्। प्रेषितो धर्मपुत्रेण पर्थैषोऽभ्येति सात्यकिः ॥७-११६-२०॥
svabāhubalamāśritya vidārya ca varūthinīm। preṣito dharmaputreṇa parthaiṣo'bhyeti sātyakiḥ ॥7-116-20॥

(Relying on his own strength of arms and tearing apart the army, sent by the son of Dharma, this Satyaki approaches Arjuna.)
Relying on his own strength, Satyaki, sent by Yudhishthira, tears through the enemy ranks and approaches Arjuna.
यस्य नास्ति समो योधः कौरवेषु कथञ्चन। सोऽयमायाति कौन्तेय सात्यकिः सत्यविक्रमः ॥७-११६-२१॥
yasya nāsti samo yodhaḥ kauraveṣu kathañcana। so'yamāyāti kaunteya sātyakiḥ satyavikramaḥ ॥7-116-21॥

(Whose equal warrior is not among the Kauravas in any way, he, this Satyaki of true prowess, comes, O son of Kunti.)
There is no warrior among the Kauravas who is equal to him in any way. This is Satyaki, of true prowess, who comes, O son of Kunti.
कुरुसैन्याद्विमुक्तो वै सिंहो मध्याद्गवामिव। निहत्य बहुलाः सेनाः पार्थैषोऽभ्येति सात्यकिः ॥७-११६-२२॥
kurusainyādvimukto vai siṃho madhyādgavāmiva। nihatya bahulāḥ senāḥ pārthaiṣo'bhyeti sātyakiḥ ॥7-116-22॥

एतेन हि महाबाहो रक्षितव्यः स पार्थिवः। तमेष कथमुत्सृज्य मम कृष्ण पदानुगः ॥७-११६-२८॥
etena hi mahābāho rakṣitavyaḥ sa pārthivaḥ। tameṣa kathamutsṛjya mama kṛṣṇa padānugaḥ ॥7-116-28॥

अपि कौरवमुख्येन कृतास्त्रेण महात्मना। समेत्य भूरिश्रवसा स्वस्तिमान्सात्यकिर्भवेत् ॥७-११६-३४॥
