Core and Pancharatra: As Ghatotkacha attacks Karna, Duryodhana sends Alambala, son of Jaṭāsura as a reinforcement to Karna. In the intense battle Ghatotkacha kills Alambala. Ghatotkacha places Alambala's severed head on Duryodhana's chariot and threatens that he along with Karna will face the same fate.

दुर्योधन तवामित्रान्प्रख्यातान्युद्धदुर्मदान्। पाण्डवान्हन्तुमिच्छामि त्वयाज्ञप्तः सहानुगान् ॥७-१४९-६॥

(Jatasura, my father, the leader of demons, was formerly slain by the petty sons of Pandu employing demon-slaying action. I wish to honor him, directed by you, O Lord, to go.)

तमब्रवीत्ततो राजा प्रीयमाणः पुनः पुनः। द्रोणकर्णादिभिः सार्धं पर्याप्तोऽहं द्विषद्वधे ॥ त्वं तु गच्छ मयाज्ञप्तो जहि युद्धं घटोत्कचम् ॥७-१४९-८॥
tamabravīttato rājā prīyamāṇaḥ punaḥ punaḥ। droṇakarṇādibhiḥ sārdhaṃ paryāpto'haṃ dviṣadvadhe ॥ tvaṃ tu gaccha mayājñapto jahi yuddhaṃ ghaṭotkacam ॥7-149-8॥

(Then the king, pleased, said to him again and again: "Together with Drona, Karna, and others, I am sufficient for the destruction of enemies. But you, ordered by me, go and conquer Ghatotkacha in battle.")
The king, pleased, repeatedly assured him that he, along with Drona, Karna, and others, was enough to defeat the enemies. He instructed him to go and defeat Ghatotkacha in battle.
तथेत्युक्त्वा महाकायः समाहूय घटोत्कचम्। जटासुरिर्भैमसेनिं नानाशस्त्रैरवाकिरत् ॥७-१४९-९॥
tathety uktvā mahākāyaḥ samāhūya ghaṭotkacam। jaṭāsurir bhaimaseniṃ nānāśastrair avākirat ॥7-149-9॥
[तथेत्युक्त्वा (tathety uktvā) - thus having said; महाकायः (mahākāyaḥ) - great-bodied; समाहूय (samāhūya) - having summoned; घटोत्कचम् (ghaṭotkacam) - Ghatotkacha; जटासुरिः (jaṭāsuriḥ) - Jatasura; भैमसेनिं (bhaimaseniṃ) - son of Bhima; नानाशस्त्रैः (nānāśastraiḥ) - with various weapons; अवाकिरत् (avākirat) - showered;]
(Thus having said, the great-bodied one summoned Ghatotkacha. Jatasura showered the son of Bhima with various weapons.)
Having spoken thus, the mighty Jatasura called upon Ghatotkacha and attacked the son of Bhima with a variety of weapons.
अलम्बलं च कर्णं च कुरुसैन्यं च दुस्तरम्। हैडिम्बः प्रममाथैको महावातोऽम्बुदानिव ॥७-१४९-१०॥
alambalaṁ ca karṇaṁ ca kurusainyaṁ ca dustaram। haiḍimbaḥ pramamāthaiko mahāvāto'mbudāniva ॥7-149-10॥
[अलम्बलम् (alambalam) - without support; च (ca) - and; कर्णम् (karṇam) - Karna; च (ca) - and; कुरुसैन्यम् (kurusainyam) - Kuru army; च (ca) - and; दुस्तरम् (dustaram) - difficult to overcome; हैडिम्बः (haiḍimbaḥ) - Hidimba; प्रममाथ (pramamātha) - crushed; एकः (ekaḥ) - alone; महावातः (mahāvātaḥ) - great wind; अम्बुदान् (ambudān) - clouds; इव (iva) - like;]
(Without support and Karna and the Kuru army, difficult to overcome, Hidimba crushed alone like a great wind (crushes) clouds.)
Hidimba, like a great wind scattering clouds, single-handedly crushed the formidable Kuru army and Karna, leaving them without support.
ततो मायामयं दृष्ट्वा रथं तूर्णमलम्बलः। घटोत्कचं शरव्रातैर्नानालिङ्गैः समार्दयत् ॥७-१४९-११॥
tato māyāmayaṃ dṛṣṭvā rathaṃ tūrṇamalambalaḥ। ghaṭotkacaṃ śaravrātairnānāliṅgaiḥ samārdayat ॥7-149-11॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; मायामयम् (māyāmayam) - illusory; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; रथम् (ratham) - chariot; तूर्णम् (tūrṇam) - quickly; अलम्बलः (alambalaḥ) - Alambala; घटोत्कचम् (ghaṭotkacam) - Ghatotkacha; शरव्रातैः (śaravrātaiḥ) - with volleys of arrows; नानालिङ्गैः (nānāliṅgaiḥ) - with various signs; समार्दयत् (samārdayat) - attacked;]
(Then, having seen the illusory chariot, Alambala quickly attacked Ghatotkacha with volleys of arrows with various signs.)

घटोत्कचशरैर्नुन्ना तथैव कुरुवाहिनी। निशीथे प्राद्रवद्राजन्नुत्सृज्योल्काः सहस्रशः ॥७-१४९-१४॥

तिलशस्तस्य तद्यानं सूतं सर्वायुधानि च। घटोत्कचः प्रचिच्छेद प्राणदच्चातिदारुणम् ॥७-१४९-१६॥

जटासुरिर्महाराज विरथो हतसारथिः। घटोत्कचं रणे क्रुद्धो मुष्टिनाभ्यहनद्दृढम् ॥७-१४९-१९॥

(Then, O king, he said this speech to Duryodhana: "This relative of yours is slain by you; you have seen his valor. Again, you will see the end of Karna and also of yourself.")
