तमागतमभिप्रेक्ष्य भीमकर्माणमाहवे। हर्षमाहारयां चक्रुः कुरवः सर्व एव ते ॥७-१५२-१॥
tamāgatamabhiprekṣya bhīmakarmāṇamāhave। harṣamāhārayāṃ cakruḥ kuravaḥ sarva eva te ॥7-152-1॥
[तम् (tam) - him; आगतम् (āgatam) - arrived; अभिप्रेक्ष्य (abhiprekṣya) - seeing; भीमकर्माणम् (bhīmakarmāṇam) - of terrible deeds; आहवे (āhave) - in battle; हर्षम् (harṣam) - joy; आहारयाम् (āhārayām) - brought; चक्रुः (cakruḥ) - made; कुरवः (kuravaḥ) - the Kauravas; सर्वे (sarve) - all; एव (eva) - indeed; ते (te) - they;]
(Seeing him arrived, of terrible deeds in battle, joy they brought, made the Kauravas all indeed.)
Seeing him arrive, who was known for his terrible deeds in battle, all the Kauravas indeed felt joy.
तथैव तव पुत्रास्ते दुर्योधनपुरोगमाः। अप्लवाः प्लवमासाद्य तर्तुकामा इवार्णवम् ॥७-१५२-२॥
tathaiva tava putrāste duryodhanapurogamāḥ। aplavāḥ plavamāsādya tartukāmā ivārṇavam ॥7-152-2॥

(In the same way, your sons, led by Duryodhana, without a boat, having reached a boat, desiring to cross, like the ocean.)
Similarly, your sons, led by Duryodhana, are like those who, without a boat, attempt to cross the ocean by reaching for a boat.
पुनर्जातमिवात्मानं मन्वानाः पार्थिवास्तदा। अलायुधं राक्षसेन्द्रं स्वागतेनाभ्यपूजयन् ॥७-१५२-३॥
punarjātamivātmānaṃ manvānāḥ pārthivāstadā। alāyudhaṃ rākṣasendraṃ svāgatenābhyapūjayan ॥7-152-3॥

(Thinking themselves to be reborn, the kings then honored the demon king Alayudha with a welcome.)
The kings, considering themselves as if reborn, welcomed and honored the demon king Alayudha.
तस्मिंस्त्वमानुषे युद्धे वर्तमाने भयावहे। कर्णराक्षसयोर्नक्तं दारुणप्रतिदर्शने ॥७-१५२-४॥
tasmiṁstvamānuṣe yuddhe vartamāne bhayāvahe। karṇarākṣasayornaktaṁ dāruṇapratidarśane ॥7-152-4॥

In that terrifying non-human battle that was ongoing, Karna and the Rakshasa faced each other in a dreadful confrontation at night.
उपप्रैक्षन्त पाञ्चालाः स्मयमानाः सराजकाः। तथैव तावका राजन्घूर्णमानास्ततस्ततः ॥७-१५२-५॥
upapraikṣanta pāñcālāḥ smayamānāḥ sarājakāḥ। tathaiva tāvakā rājanghūrṇamānāstatastataḥ ॥7-152-5॥

(The Panchalas, smiling with their kings, looked upon; similarly, your people, O king, bewildered, here and there thereafter.)
The Panchalas, along with their kings, looked on with smiles, while your people, O king, were bewildered and moved about here and there.
चुक्रुशुर्नेदमस्तीति द्रोणद्रौणिकृपादयः। तत्कर्म दृष्ट्वा सम्भ्रान्ता हैडिम्बस्य रणाजिरे ॥७-१५२-६॥
cukruśurnedamastīti droṇadrauṇikṛpādayaḥ। tatkarma dṛṣṭvā sambhrāntā haiḍimbasya raṇājire ॥7-152-6॥
[चुक्रुशुः (cukruśuḥ) - cried out; न (na) - not; इदम् (idam) - this; अस्ति (asti) - is; इति (iti) - thus; द्रोण (droṇa) - Drona; द्रौणि (drauṇi) - Drauni; कृप (kṛpa) - Kripa; आदयः (ādayaḥ) - and others; तत् (tat) - that; कर्म (karma) - act; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; सम्भ्रान्ताः (sambhrāntāḥ) - bewildered; हैडिम्बस्य (haiḍimbasya) - of Hidimba; रणाजिरे (raṇājire) - in the battlefield;]
(Drona, Drauni, Kripa, and others cried out, "This is not," having seen that act, bewildered in the battlefield of Hidimba.)
Drona, Drauni, Kripa, and others, upon witnessing the act, exclaimed in disbelief, "This cannot be!" They were bewildered in the battlefield of Hidimba.
सर्वमाविग्नमभवद्धाहाभूतमचेतनम्। तव सैन्यं महाराज निराशं कर्णजीविते ॥७-१५२-७॥
sarvam āvignam abhavad dhāhābhūtam acetanaṁ। tava sainyaṁ mahārāja nirāśaṁ karṇajīvite ॥7-152-7॥
[सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; आविग्नम् (āvignam) - confused; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; धाहाभूतम् (dhāhābhūtam) - panic-stricken; अचेतनम् (acetanaṁ) - unconscious; तव (tava) - your; सैन्यम् (sainyam) - army; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; निराशम् (nirāśam) - hopeless; कर्णजीविते (karṇajīvite) - in Karna's life;]
(All became confused, panic-stricken, and unconscious. Your army, O great king, was hopeless about Karna's life.)
All was in disarray and panic, unconscious and hopeless about Karna's life, O great king.
दुर्योधनस्तु सम्प्रेक्ष्य कर्णमार्तिं परां गतम्। अलायुधं राक्षसेन्द्रमाहूयेदमथाब्रवीत् ॥७-१५२-८॥
duryodhanastu samprekṣya karṇamārtiṃ parāṃ gatam। alāyudhaṃ rākṣasendramāhūyedamathābravīt ॥7-152-8॥
[दुर्योधनः (duryodhanaḥ) - Duryodhana; तु (tu) - but; सम्प्रेक्ष्य (samprekṣya) - having seen; कर्ण (karṇa) - Karna; आर्तिं (ārtiṃ) - distress; पराम् (parām) - extreme; गतं (gatam) - gone; अलायुधं (alāyudhaṃ) - Alayudha; राक्षसेन्द्रम् (rākṣasendram) - king of the Rakshasas; आहूय (āhūya) - having summoned; इदम् (idam) - this; अथ (atha) - then; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said;]
(Duryodhana, but having seen Karna's distress gone to the extreme, having summoned Alayudha, the king of the Rakshasas, then said this.)

एष वैकर्तनः कर्णो हैडिम्बेन समागतः। कुरुते कर्म सुमहद्यदस्यौपयिकं मृधे ॥७-१५२-९॥
eṣa vaikartanaḥ karṇo haiḍimben samāgataḥ। kurute karma sumahadyadasyaupikaṃ mṛdhe ॥7-152-9॥

पश्यैतान्पार्थिवाञ्शूरान्निहतान्भैमसेनिना। नानाशस्त्रैरभिहतान्पादपानिव दन्तिना ॥७-१५२-१०॥
paśyaitānpārthivāñśūrānnihatānbhaimaseninā। nānāśastrairabhihatānpādapāniva dantinā ॥7-152-10॥

Behold these valiant kings and warriors, laid low by Bhimasena, felled with diverse weapons as trees are by an elephant.
तवैष भागः समरे राजमध्ये मया कृतः। तवैवानुमते वीर तं विक्रम्य निबर्हय ॥७-१५२-११॥
tavaiṣa bhāgaḥ samare rājamadhye mayā kṛtaḥ। tavaivānumate vīra taṃ vikramya nibarhaya ॥7-152-11॥
[तव (tava) - your; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; भागः (bhāgaḥ) - part; समरे (samare) - in battle; राजमध्ये (rājamadhye) - in the midst of kings; मया (mayā) - by me; कृतः (kṛtaḥ) - done; तव (tava) - your; एव (eva) - only; अनुमते (anumate) - with permission; वीर (vīra) - hero; तम् (tam) - him; विक्रम्य (vikramya) - having conquered; निबर्हय (nibarhaya) - destroy;]
(This part in the battle amidst kings was done by me with your permission, O hero; having conquered him, destroy.)
This part of the battle in the midst of kings was accomplished by me with your consent, O hero; now, having conquered him, destroy him.
पुरा वैकर्तनं कर्णमेष पापो घटोत्कचः। मायाबलमुपाश्रित्य कर्शयत्यरिकर्शनः ॥७-१५२-१२॥
purā vaikartanaṃ karṇameṣa pāpo ghaṭotkacaḥ। māyābalamupāśritya karśayatyarikarśanaḥ ॥7-152-12॥
[पुरा (purā) - formerly; वैकर्तनं (vaikartanaṃ) - son of Vikartana (Karna); कर्णम् (karṇam) - Karna; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; पापः (pāpaḥ) - wicked; घटोत्कचः (ghaṭotkacaḥ) - Ghatotkacha; मायाबलम् (māyābalam) - power of illusion; उपाश्रित्य (upāśritya) - resorting to; कर्शयति (karśayati) - harasses; अरिकर्शनः (arikarśanaḥ) - harasser of foes;]
(Formerly, this wicked Ghatotkacha, resorting to the power of illusion, harasses Karna, the son of Vikartana, the harasser of foes.)
In the past, this wicked Ghatotkacha, using his power of illusion, tormented Karna, the son of Vikartana, who is known for harassing his enemies.
एवमुक्तः स राज्ञा तु राक्षसस्तीव्रविक्रमः। तथेत्युक्त्वा महाबाहुर्घटोत्कचमुपाद्रवत् ॥७-१५२-१३॥
evamuktaḥ sa rājñā tu rākṣasastīvravikramaḥ। tathetyuktvā mahābāhurghaṭotkacamupādravat ॥7-152-13॥

(Thus spoken by the king, the fierce demon with mighty arms attacked Ghatotkacha, saying thus.)
Having been addressed by the king, the fierce and mighty demon attacked Ghatotkacha.
ततः कर्णं समुत्सृज्य भैमसेनिरपि प्रभो। प्रत्यमित्रमुपायान्तं मर्दयामास मार्गणैः ॥७-१५२-१४॥
tataḥ karṇaṃ samutsṛjya bhaimasenirapi prabho। pratyamitramupāyāntaṃ mardayāmāsa mārgaṇaiḥ ॥7-152-14॥

(Then, having abandoned Karna, Bhaimaseni also, O lord, crushed the approaching enemy coming near with arrows.)
Then, O lord, after leaving Karna, Bhaimaseni attacked and crushed the approaching enemy with his arrows.
तयोः समभवद्युद्धं क्रुद्धयो राक्षसेन्द्रयोः। मत्तयोर्वाशिताहेतोर्द्विपयोरिव कानने ॥७-१५२-१५॥
tayoḥ samabhavadyuddhaṃ kruddhayo rākṣasendrayoḥ। mattayorvāśitāhetordvipayoriva kānane ॥7-152-15॥
[तयोः (tayoḥ) - of those two; समभवत् (samabhavat) - occurred; युद्धं (yuddhaṃ) - battle; क्रुद्धयोः (kruddhayoḥ) - angry; राक्षसेन्द्रयोः (rākṣasendrayoḥ) - of the demon lords; मत्तयोः (mattayoḥ) - intoxicated; वाशिता (vāśitā) - of the female elephant; हेतोः (hetoḥ) - for the sake; द्विपयोः (dvipayoḥ) - of the two elephants; इव (iva) - like; कानने (kānane) - in the forest;]
(A battle occurred between those two angry demon lords, like two intoxicated elephants fighting for the sake of a female elephant in the forest.)
A fierce battle erupted between the two enraged demon lords, reminiscent of two wild elephants clashing over a mate in the jungle.
रक्षसा विप्रमुक्तस्तु कर्णोऽपि रथिनां वरः। अभ्यद्रवद्भीमसेनं रथेनादित्यवर्चसा ॥७-१५२-१६॥
rakṣasā vipramuktastu karṇo'pi rathināṃ varaḥ। abhyadravadbhīmasenaṃ rathenādityavarcasā ॥7-152-16॥
[रक्षसा (rakṣasā) - by the demon; विप्रमुक्तः (vipramuktaḥ) - released; तु (tu) - but; कर्णः (karṇaḥ) - Karṇa; अपि (api) - also; रथिनाम् (rathinām) - of the charioteers; वरः (varaḥ) - the best; अभ्यद्रवत् (abhyadravat) - attacked; भीमसेनम् (bhīmasenam) - Bhīmasena; रथेन (rathena) - with the chariot; आदित्यवर्चसा (ādityavarcasā) - with the brilliance of the sun;]
(Released by the demon, Karṇa, the best of the charioteers, also attacked Bhīmasena with the chariot, with the brilliance of the sun.)
Freed by the demon, Karṇa, the foremost among charioteers, charged at Bhīmasena with his chariot, shining with the brilliance of the sun.
तमायान्तमनादृत्य दृष्ट्वा ग्रस्तं घटोत्कचम्। अलायुधेन समरे सिंहेनेव गवां पतिम् ॥७-१५२-१७॥
tamāyāntamanādṛtya dṛṣṭvā grastaṃ ghaṭotkacam। alāyudhena samare siṃheneva gavāṃ patim ॥7-152-17॥
[तम् (tam) - that; आयान्तम् (āyāntam) - coming; अनादृत्य (anādṛtya) - disregarding; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; ग्रस्तम् (grastam) - seized; घटोत्कचम् (ghaṭotkacam) - Ghatotkacha; अलायुधेन (alāyudhena) - by Alayudha; समरे (samare) - in battle; सिंहेन (siṃhena) - by a lion; इव (iva) - like; गवाम् (gavām) - of cows; पतिम् (patim) - the lord;]
(Disregarding that which was coming, having seen Ghatotkacha seized by Alayudha in battle, like the lord of cows by a lion.)
Disregarding the approaching danger, Alayudha seized Ghatotkacha in battle, just as a lion would seize the lord of cows.
रथेनादित्यवपुषा भीमः प्रहरतां वरः। किरञ्शरौघान्प्रययावलायुधरथं प्रति ॥७-१५२-१८॥
rathenādityavapuṣā bhīmaḥ praharatāṃ varaḥ। kirañśaraughānprayayāvalāyudharathaṃ prati ॥7-152-18॥
[रथेन (rathena) - by chariot; आदित्य (āditya) - sun-like; वपुषा (vapuṣā) - with form; भीमः (bhīmaḥ) - Bhima; प्रहरतां (praharatāṃ) - among attackers; वरः (varaḥ) - best; किरञ् (kirañ) - showering; शरौघान् (śaraughān) - arrows; प्रययौ (prayayau) - went; अवल (avala) - towards; आयुध (āyudha) - weapon; रथं (rathaṃ) - chariot; प्रति (prati) - towards;]
(Bhima, the best among attackers, with a sun-like form, went by chariot, showering arrows, towards the weaponed chariot.)
Bhima, the foremost of warriors, with a radiant form like the sun, advanced in his chariot, unleashing a torrent of arrows towards the enemy's armed chariot.
तमायान्तमभिप्रेक्ष्य स तदालायुधः प्रभो। घटोत्कचं समुत्सृज्य भीमसेनं समाह्वयत् ॥७-१५२-१९॥
tamāyāntamabhiprekṣya sa tadālāyudhaḥ prabho। ghaṭotkacaṃ samutsṛjya bhīmasenaṃ samāhvayat ॥7-152-19॥

(Having seen him approaching, then Alayudha, O lord, abandoning Ghatotkacha, challenged Bhimasena.)
Seeing him approach, Alayudha, O lord, left Ghatotkacha and challenged Bhimasena.
तं भीमः सहसाभ्येत्य राक्षसान्तकरः प्रभो। सगणं राक्षसेन्द्रं तं शरवर्षैरवाकिरत् ॥७-१५२-२०॥
taṁ bhīmaḥ sahasābhyetya rākṣasāntakaraḥ prabho। sagaṇaṁ rākṣasendraṁ taṁ śaravarṣairavākirat ॥7-152-20॥
[तं (taṁ) - him; भीमः (bhīmaḥ) - Bhima; सहसा (sahasā) - suddenly; अभ्येत्य (abhyetya) - approaching; राक्षसान्तकरः (rākṣasāntakaraḥ) - destroyer of demons; प्रभो (prabho) - O lord; सगणं (sagaṇam) - with his followers; राक्षसेन्द्रं (rākṣasendram) - king of demons; तं (tam) - him; शरवर्षैः (śaravarṣaiḥ) - with a shower of arrows; अवाकिरत् (avākirat) - covered;]
(Bhima, the destroyer of demons, suddenly approached him, O lord, and covered the king of demons and his followers with a shower of arrows.)
Bhima, known as the destroyer of demons, swiftly approached and attacked the demon king and his followers with a barrage of arrows, O lord.
तथैवालायुधो राजञ्शिलाधौतैरजिह्मगैः। अभ्यवर्षत कौन्तेयं पुनः पुनररिंदमः ॥७-१५२-२१॥
tathaivālāyudho rājañśilādhautairajihmagaiḥ। abhyavarṣata kaunteyaṃ punaḥ punarariṃdamaḥ ॥7-152-21॥
[तथा (tathā) - thus; एव (eva) - indeed; आलायुधः (ālāyudhaḥ) - Ālāyudha; राजन् (rājan) - O king; शिला (śilā) - stones; धौतैः (dhautaiḥ) - washed; अजिह्मगैः (ajihmagaiḥ) - straightforward; अभ्यवर्षत (abhyavarṣata) - showered; कौन्तेयं (kaunteyaṃ) - son of Kunti; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; अरिंदमः (ariṃdamaḥ) - subduer of enemies;]
(Thus indeed, Ālāyudha, O king, showered straightforward stones, washed, upon the son of Kunti, again and again, O subduer of enemies.)
Thus, O king, Ālāyudha repeatedly showered straightforward stones upon the son of Kunti, the subduer of enemies.
तथा ते राक्षसाः सर्वे भीमसेनमुपाद्रवन्। नानाप्रहरणा भीमास्त्वत्सुतानां जयैषिणः ॥७-१५२-२२॥
tathā te rākṣasāḥ sarve bhīmasenamupādravan। nānāpraharaṇā bhīmāstvatsutānāṃ jayaiṣiṇaḥ ॥7-152-22॥
[तथा (tathā) - thus; ते (te) - they; राक्षसाः (rākṣasāḥ) - demons; सर्वे (sarve) - all; भीमसेनम् (bhīmasenam) - Bhimasena; उपाद्रवन् (upādravan) - attacked; नानाप्रहरणाः (nānāpraharaṇāḥ) - with various weapons; भीमाः (bhīmāḥ) - terrible; त्वत्सुतानाम् (tvatsutānām) - of your sons; जयैषिणः (jayaiṣiṇaḥ) - desiring victory;]
(Thus, all those demons attacked Bhimasena with various weapons, terrible and desiring victory over your sons.)
In this way, all the demons, armed with various weapons and terrible in form, attacked Bhimasena, seeking victory over your sons.

तमपश्यद्धृषीकेशः पाण्डवानां हिते रतः। स भीमसेनरक्षार्थं हैडिम्बं प्रत्यचोदयत् ॥७-१५२-४७॥
tam apaśyad dhṛṣīkeśaḥ pāṇḍavānāṃ hite rataḥ। sa bhīmasenarakṣārthaṃ haiḍimbaṃ pratyacodayat ॥7-152-47॥
