tataḥ sa kadanaṃ cakre ripūṇāṃ droṇanandanaḥ। yugānte sarvabhūtānāṃ kālasṛṣṭa ivāntakaḥ ॥7-170-1॥

ध्वजद्रुमं शस्त्रशृङ्गं हतनागमहाशिलम्। अश्वकिम्पुरुषाकीर्णं शरासनलतावृतम् ॥७-१७०-२॥
dhvajadrumaṁ śastraśṛṅgaṁ hatanāgamahāśilam। aśvakimpuruṣākīrṇaṁ śarāsanalatāvṛtam ॥7-170-2॥

शूलक्रव्यादसङ्घुष्टं भूतयक्षगणाकुलम्। निहत्य शात्रवान्भल्लैः सोऽचिनोद्देहपर्वतम् ॥७-१७०-३॥

यस्माद्युध्यन्तमाचार्यं धर्मकञ्चुकमास्थितः। मुञ्च शस्त्रमिति प्राह कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः ॥७-१७०-५॥

सर्वानेतान्हनिष्यामि यदि योत्स्यन्ति मां रणे। सत्यं ते प्रतिजानामि परावर्तय वाहिनीम् ॥७-१७०-७॥
sarvān etān haniṣyāmi yadi yotsyanti māṃ raṇe। satyaṃ te pratijānāmi parāvartaya vāhinīm ॥7-170-7॥

After overcoming the formidable battle represented by Bhishma and Drona, which was difficult for the timid to pass, Syami, along with his followers, settled in the water that was as small as the hoof-print of a cow.

(Those who will deposit weapons, having descended from vehicles, this weapon will not kill them in battle.)

(Those who will oppose this even in mind here, he will destroy them all, even those gone to the netherworld.)
But those who even think of opposing this here, he will destroy them all, even if they have gone to the netherworld.
ते वचस्तस्य तच्छ्रुत्वा वासुदेवस्य भारत। ईषुः सर्वेऽस्त्रमुत्स्रष्टुं मनोभिः करणेन च ॥७-१७०-४३॥
te vacastasya tacchrutvā vāsudevasya bhārata। īṣuḥ sarve'stramuttsraṣṭuṃ manobhiḥ karaṇena ca ॥7-170-43॥

(They, having heard those words of Vāsudeva, O Bhārata, all (prepared) to release arrows and weapons by minds and actions.)
Upon hearing those words of Vāsudeva, O Bhārata, everyone prepared to release their arrows and weapons, both mentally and physically.
तत उत्स्रष्टुकामांस्तानस्त्राण्यालक्ष्य पाण्डवः। भीमसेनोऽब्रवीद्राजन्निदं संहर्षयन्वचः ॥७-१७०-४४॥

(Then, or also by this heavy golden-bodied (chariot), I will move in battle like time, piercing the weapon of Drona's son.)

(Indeed, there is no man here equal to me in prowess; just as there is no light equal to the sun.)

पश्यध्वं मे दृढौ बाहू नागराजकरोपमा। समर्थौ पर्वतस्यापि शैशिरस्य निपातने ॥७-१७०-४८॥
paśyadhvaṃ me dṛḍhau bāhū nāgarājakaropamā। samarthau parvatasya'pi śaiśirasya nipātane ॥7-170-48॥

नागायुतसमप्राणो ह्यहमेको नरेष्विह। शक्रो यथा प्रतिद्वंद्वो दिवि देवेषु विश्रुतः ॥७-१७०-४९॥
nāgāyutasamaprāṇo hyahameko nareṣviha। śakro yathā pratidvandvo divi deveṣu viśrutaḥ ॥7-170-49॥

(I alone here among men am indeed equal in strength to ten thousand elephants, as Indra is a famous rival in heaven among gods.)
I am the only one here among men who is as strong as ten thousand elephants, just as Indra is renowned as a rival among the gods in heaven.
अद्य पश्यत मे वीर्यं बाह्वोः पीनांसयोर्युधि। ज्वलमानस्य दीप्तस्य द्रौणेरस्त्रस्य वारणे ॥७-१७०-५०॥
adya paśyata me vīryaṃ bāhvoḥ pīnāṃsayoryudhi। jvalamānasya dīptasya drauṇerastrasya vāraṇe ॥7-170-50॥

यदि नारायणास्त्रस्य प्रतियोद्धा न विद्यते। अद्यैनं प्रतियोत्स्यामि पश्यत्सु कुरुपाण्डुषु ॥७-१७०-५१॥

(If there is no opponent for Narayana's weapon, today I will counter it in the presence of the Kurus and Pandavas.)

एवमुक्त्वा ततो भीमो द्रोणपुत्रमरिंदमः। अभ्ययान्मेघघोषेण रथेनादित्यवर्चसा ॥७-१७०-५२॥
evamuktvā tato bhīmo droṇaputramariṃdamaḥ। abhyayānmeghaghoṣeṇa rathenādityavarcasā ॥7-170-52॥

(Thus having spoken, then Bhima, the subduer of foes, approached Drona's son with a chariot sounding like a cloud, with the brilliance of the sun.)
After speaking thus, Bhima, the subduer of enemies, advanced towards Drona's son on a chariot that roared like a cloud and shone with the brilliance of the sun.
स एनमिषुजालेन लघुत्वाच्छीघ्रविक्रमः। निमेषमात्रेणासाद्य कुन्तीपुत्रोऽभ्यवाकिरत् ॥७-१७०-५३॥
sa enam iṣujālena laghutvācchīghravikramaḥ। nimeṣamātreṇāsādya kuntīputro'bhyavākirat ॥7-170-53॥

(He, swift in action due to lightness, having reached this one with a net of arrows, covered (him) in a moment.)

O king, his form in battle became like that of Bhimasena, resembling a mountain covered by fireflies at dusk.
तदस्त्रं द्रोणपुत्रस्य तस्मिन्प्रतिसमस्यति। अवर्धत महाराज यथाग्निरनिलोद्धतः ॥७-१७०-५७॥
tadastraṃ droṇaputrasya tasminpratisamasyati। avardhata mahārāja yathāgniraniloddhataḥ ॥7-170-57॥

विवर्धमानमालक्ष्य तदस्त्रं भीमविक्रमम्। पाण्डुसैन्यमृते भीमं सुमहद्भयमाविशत् ॥७-१७०-५८॥
vivardhamānamālakṣya tadastraṃ bhīmavikramam। pāṇḍusainyamṛte bhīmaṃ sumahadbhayamāviśat ॥7-170-58॥

(Seeing that growing weapon of terrible prowess, great fear entered Pandu's army except Bhima.)
