त्वरमाणांस्तु तान्सर्वान्ससूतेष्वसनध्वजान्। जघान नवतिं वीरानर्जुनो निशितैः शरैः॥

तेऽपतन्त हता बाणैर्नानारूपैः किरीटिना। विमानेभ्यः सुकृतिनः स्वर्गात्पुण्यक्षये यथा॥

शक्त्यृष्टितोमरप्रासैर्गदानिस्त्रिंशसायकैः। प्राच्छादयन्महेष्वासाः कुरवः कुरुनन्दनम्॥ ८-८५-९

(Then, O king, the great soul Duḥśāsana made Bhīmasena without a chariot. Having killed in battle, he cut off his four arms and again threw down the chariots.)

(Then the earth-lord indeed, having descended from the vehicle, Bhima, intoxicated, sent his horses to Yama's abode. The great soul prepared the chariot of the prince.)

tataḥ krodhādbhīmasenaḥ kṛtāni sarvāṇi duḥkhānyanusaṃsmaranvai। saṃsmṛtya saṃsmṛtya tathā pratijñā-- mugrāmasau rājaputrau vyaṣīdat॥ 8-87-8

(Then, from anger, Bhimasena, remembering all the sorrows done, indeed remembering, remembering thus the vow, that terrible princes became despondent.)
Then, driven by anger, Bhimasena recalled all the sorrows inflicted upon him. As he remembered and remembered his vow, the terrible prince became despondent.
सञ्चिन्तितं रोषमतीव वेगा- त्त्रयोदशाब्दं पुरुषप्रवीरः। प्रगृह्य वज्राशनितुल्यवेगां गदां करेणाथ वृकोदरो रुषा॥

(Considered with extreme anger and speed, the heroic man of thirteen years, holding a mace like the speed of a thunderbolt in hand, then Vrikodara (Bhima) with anger.)

निपातयित्वा पृथिवीतले भृशं स ताजयामा वृकोदरो बली। अतीव सन्ताडितभिन्नगात्रो दुःशासनो वै निपपात भूमौ॥ ८-८७-१०

(Having felled him violently on the ground, the mighty Vrikodara subdued him. Extremely beaten and with broken limbs, Duhshasana indeed fell on the ground.)

(Shining, that intensely inflamed my long-acquired anger, very blazing. I will drink honey from your store vessel, thus said the mighty Bhimasena.)

भीमोऽभिदुद्राव सुतं त्वदीयं सपत्रतां दर्शयन्धार्तराष्ट्रे। मृगं मुहुः सिंहशिशुर्यथा वने तथाश्वभिद्रुत्य महाबलं बली॥ ८-८७-१४

(Bhima rushed towards your son, showing speed at Dhritarashtra's son, like a lion cub repeatedly at a deer in the forest, so rushing on horseback, mighty and strong.)
Bhima, demonstrating his swiftness, charged at your son, the son of Dhritarashtra, just as a lion cub repeatedly charges at a deer in the forest, displaying his might and strength while rushing on horseback.
निगृह्य चैनं परमेण कर्मणा उत्क्षिप्य चोत्क्षिप्य च तूर्णमेनम्। भूमौ तदा निष्पिपेषाथ वीर असिं विकोशं विमलं चकार॥ ८-८७-१५
nigṛhya cainaṃ parameṇa karmaṇā utkṣipya cotkṣipya ca tūrṇamenam। bhūmau tadā niṣpipeṣātha vīra asiṃ vikośaṃ vimalaṃ cakāra॥ 8-87-15

(Having seized him with supreme action, and having lifted him quickly, then crushed him on the ground. Then the hero unsheathed the pure sword.)
The hero, with supreme skill, seized and swiftly lifted him, crushing him to the ground, and then unsheathed his pure sword.
तं पातयित्वा तु वृकोदरोऽथ जगर्ज हर्षेण विनादयन्दिशः। नादेन तेनाखिलपार्श्ववर्तिनो मूर्च्छाकुलाः पतितास्त्वाजमीढ॥ ८-८७-१६
taṁ pātayitvā tu vṛkodaro'tha jagarja harṣeṇa vinādayandiśaḥ। nādena tenākhilapārśvavartino mūrcchākulāḥ patitāstvājamīḍha॥ 8-87-16

(Having felled him, Vrikodara (Bhima) then roared with joy, resounding the directions. By that sound, all those nearby, overcome with fainting, fell, O Ajamidha.)
After felling him, Bhima, known as Vrikodara, roared joyfully, causing the directions to resound. The sound caused all those nearby to faint and fall, O Ajamidha (King Virata).
दुःशासनं तत्र समीक्ष्य राज-- न्भीमो महाबाहुरचिन्त्यकर्मा। स्मृत्वा च केशग्रहणं च देव्या वस्त्रापहारं च रजस्वलायाः॥ ८-८७-१७
duḥśāsanaṃ tatra samīkṣya rāja-- nbhīmo mahābāhuracintyakarmā। smṛtvā ca keśagrahaṇaṃ ca devyā vastrāpahāraṃ ca rajasvalāyāḥ॥ 8-87-17

(Seeing Duhshasana there, O king, Bhima, the mighty-armed and of unimaginable deeds, remembering the dragging by the hair and the disrobing of the lady who was menstruating.)
Upon seeing Duhshasana there, Bhima, the mighty warrior known for his incredible deeds, recalled the incident where the lady was dragged by her hair and disrobed while she was menstruating.
अनागसो भर्तृपराङ्मुखाया दुःखानि दत्तान्यपि विप्रचिन्त्या। जज्वाल कोपादथ भीमसेन आज्यप्रसिक्तो हि यथा हुताशः॥
anāgaso bhartṛparāṅmukhāyā duḥkhāni dattānyapi vipracintyā। jajvāla kopādatha bhīmasena ājyaprasikto hi yathā hutāśaḥ॥
[अनागसो (anāgasaḥ) - innocent; भर्तृपराङ्मुखाया (bhartṛparāṅmukhāyā) - of the one turned away from the husband; दुःखानि (duḥkhāni) - sorrows; दत्तानि (dattāni) - given; अपि (api) - also; विप्रचिन्त्या (vipracintyā) - to be considered; जज्वाल (jajvāla) - blazed; कोपात् (kopāt) - from anger; अथ (atha) - then; भीमसेनः (bhīmasenaḥ) - Bhimasena; आज्यप्रसिक्तः (ājya-prasiktaḥ) - anointed with ghee; हि (hi) - indeed; यथा (yathā) - like; हुताशः (hutāśaḥ) - fire;]
(The innocent one, turned away from her husband, also given sorrows to be considered. Bhimasena blazed with anger, like a fire anointed with ghee.)
The innocent woman, neglected by her husband, was also burdened with sorrows to ponder. Bhimasena, in his anger, blazed like a fire fed with ghee.
तत्राह कर्णं च सुयोधनं च कृपं द्रौणिं कृतवर्माणमेव। निहन्मि दुःशासनमद्य पापं संरक्ष्यतामद्य समस्तयोधाः॥ ८-८७-१९
tatrāha karṇaṃ ca suyodhanaṃ ca kṛpaṃ drauṇiṃ kṛtavarmāṇameva। nihanmi duḥśāsanam adya pāpaṃ saṃrakṣyatām adya samastayodhāḥ॥ 8-87-19
[तत्र (tatra) - there; आह (āha) - said; कर्णम् (karṇam) - Karna; च (ca) - and; सुयोधनम् (suyodhanam) - Suyodhana; च (ca) - and; कृपम् (kṛpam) - Kripa; द्रौणिम् (drauṇim) - Drona's son; कृतवर्माणम् (kṛtavarmāṇam) - Kritavarma; एव (eva) - only; निहन्मि (nihanmi) - I will slay; दुःशासनम् (duḥśāsanam) - Duhshasana; अद्य (adya) - today; पापम् (pāpam) - sinful; संरक्ष्यताम् (saṃrakṣyatām) - be protected; अद्य (adya) - today; समस्तयोधाः (samastayodhāḥ) - all warriors;]
(There, he said, "Karna and Suyodhana and Kripa, Drona's son, and Kritavarma only. I will slay Duhshasana today, the sinful one. Let all warriors be protected today.")
There, he declared to Karna, Suyodhana, Kripa, Drona's son, and Kritavarma that he would slay the sinful Duhshasana today and urged all warriors to be on guard.
इत्येवमुक्त्वा सहसाभ्यधाव-- न्निहन्तुकामोऽतिबलस्तरस्वी। तथा तु विक्रम्य रमे वृकोदरो महागजं केसरिको यथैव। निगृह्य दुःशासनमेकवीरः सुयोधनस्याधिरथेः समक्षम्॥ ८-८७-२०

(Thus having spoken, suddenly rushed, desiring to kill, very strong and energetic. But having advanced in the battlefield, Vrikodara (Bhima) like a lion indeed seized the great elephant. Having seized Dushasana, the lone hero, in front of Suyodhana, the great charioteer.)
Having spoken thus, the very strong and energetic Vrikodara (Bhima) suddenly rushed forward, desiring to kill. But advancing in the battlefield like a lion seizing a great elephant, he seized Dushasana in front of Suyodhana, the great charioteer.
असिं समुद्यम्य सितं सुधारं कण्ठे पदाक्रम्य च वेपमानम्। उवाच तद्गौरिति यद्ब्रुवाणो हृष्टोऽवदः कर्णसुयोधनाभ्याम्॥ ८-८७-२१

(Having raised the bright, excellent sword, and having stepped on the trembling neck, he said joyfully to Karna and Suyodhana, "That bull which speaks thus.")

(Those locks of hair of Draupadi, which were pure and born in the Rājasūya sacrifice, O wicked one, by which hand were they pulled? Tell that, Bhimasena asks you.)

(Having heard those terrible words, Duḥśāsana, having seen Bhīmasena, blazed terribly. Then, with a smile, he, in the presence of those listening Kauravas and Somakas, having been addressed, thus angrily said to Bhīma with rolling eyes.)
Upon hearing those fierce words, Duḥśāsana looked at Bhīmasena and blazed with anger. Then, with a smile, in front of the listening Kauravas and Somakas, he, having been addressed, spoke angrily to Bhīma, his eyes rolling.

(This hand, resembling an elephant, crushes full breasts, is a giver of a thousand cows, and is the ender of warriors.)

(Thus, having heard the prince speaking in battle, Bhima, having crushed his chest, seized him by force with his arms and then roared loudly at all the warriors.)

(He said, 'In whom there is strength, let him protect you. Today, this one may become with arms cut off, abandoning Duḥśāsana's life, having seized the warriors with force, the mighty one.')

(Thus, angry Bhimasena tore off the arm with his hand, the great soul. He killed Duhshasana among heroes like a thunderbolt.)

(In the throat, having seized and made trembling, according to the supreme form, very terrible, similar to Kāla and Antaka, then having torn apart the chest of the great chariot-warrior.)

(Angry and delighted, he spoke words like the nectar of the mother's milk, like the juice of the honey wine, from drinking the honey and the unfermented.)

[पयोदधिभ्यां (payodadhibhyām) - from milk and curd; मथितात् (mathitāt) - churned; च (ca) - and; मुख्यात् (mukhyāt) - from the chief; तथा (tathā) - thus; इक्षुसारस्य (ikṣusārasya) - of sugarcane juice; मनोहरस्य (manoharasya) - of the delightful; सर्वेभ्यः (sarvebhyaḥ) - than all; एव (eva) - indeed; अभ्यधिकः (abhyadhikaḥ) - superior; रसः (rasaḥ) - taste; अस्य (asya) - of this; मतः (mataḥ) - considered; मम (mama) - by me; आद्य (ādya) - first; आहितलोहितस्य (āhitalohitasya) - of the added red.;]
(From milk and curd, churned, and from the chief, thus of sugarcane juice, of the delightful, indeed superior taste of this is considered by me, first of the added red.)
The taste derived from the churning of milk and curd, and the essence of sugarcane, is considered by me to be superior to all, especially the first of the added red.
एवं ब्रुवाणं पुनरुत्थितं त-- मास्फोट्य वल्गन्तमतिप्रहृष्टम्। ये भीमसेनं ददृशुस्तदानीं प्रायेण तेऽपि व्यथिता निपेतुः॥ ८-८७-३३
evaṃ bruvāṇaṃ punarutthitaṃ ta-- māsphoṭya valgantamatiprahṛṣṭam। ye bhīmasenaṃ dadṛśustadānīṃ prāyeṇa te'pi vyathitā nipetuḥ॥ 8-87-33

(Thus speaking, risen again, shouting, leaping, very delighted. Those who saw Bhimasena then, mostly they also fell distressed.)
Thus, as he spoke and rose again, shouting and leaping with great delight, those who saw Bhimasena at that moment mostly fell down, distressed.
ये चापि नासन्पतिता मनुष्या-- स्तेषां करेभ्यः पतितं तु शस्त्रम्। भयाच्च सञ्चुक्रुशुरस्वरैस्तदा निमीलिताक्षा मुमुहुश्च तत्र॥ ८-८७-३४

[ये (ye) - those who; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; न (na) - not; आसन् (āsan) - were; पतिता (patitā) - fallen; मनुष्याः (manuṣyāḥ) - men; तेषाम् (teṣām) - their; करेभ्यः (karebhyaḥ) - from hands; पतितम् (patitam) - fallen; तु (tu) - but; शस्त्रम् (śastram) - weapons; भयात् (bhayāt) - out of fear; च (ca) - and; सञ्चुक्रुशुः (sañcukruśuḥ) - screamed; अस्वरैः (asvaraiḥ) - in discordant voices; तदा (tadā) - then; निमीलिताक्षाः (nimīlitākṣāḥ) - with closed eyes; मुमुहुः (mumuhuḥ) - fainted; च (ca) - and; तत्र (tatra) - there;]
(Those men who had not fallen, their weapons fell from their hands. Out of fear, they screamed in discordant voices, then with closed eyes, they fainted there.)

[ये (ye) - those who; तत्र (tatra) - there; भीमं (bhīmaṃ) - Bhima; रुधिरं (rudhiraṃ) - blood; पिबन्तं (pibantaṃ) - drinking; दुःशासनस्य (duḥśāsanasya) - of Duhshasana; ददृशुः (dadṛśuḥ) - saw; प्रपन्नाः (prapannāḥ) - surrendered; न (na) - not; अयं (ayaṃ) - this; मनुष्यः (manuṣyaḥ) - a human; त्विति (tviti) - thus; भाषमाणाः (bhāṣamāṇāḥ) - speaking; सर्वे (sarve) - all; अपलायन्त (apalāyanta) - fled; भयाभिपन्नाः (bhayābhipannāḥ) - overcome with fear;]
(Those who were there saw Bhima drinking the blood of Duhshasana. Speaking thus, "This is not a human," all fled, overcome with fear.)
Those present witnessed Bhima drinking Duhshasana's blood. Declaring, "This is not a human," they all fled in terror.
