Pancharatra-Ext: Balarama arrives at the battle scene, desiring to watch the mace battle between his two disciples, after completing 42 days of pilgrimage .

तस्मिन्युद्धे महाराज सम्प्रवृत्ते सुदारुणे। उपविष्टेषु सर्वेषु पाण्डवेषु महात्मसु ॥९-३३-१॥
tasmin yuddhe mahārāja sampravṛtte sudāruṇe। upaviṣṭeṣu sarveṣu pāṇḍaveṣu mahātmasu ॥9-33-1॥
[तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that; युद्धे (yuddhe) - battle; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; सम्प्रवृत्ते (sampravṛtte) - commenced; सुदारुणे (sudāruṇe) - very fierce; उपविष्टेषु (upaviṣṭeṣu) - seated; सर्वेषु (sarveṣu) - all; पाण्डवेषु (pāṇḍaveṣu) - Pāṇḍavas; महात्मसु (mahātmasu) - great souls;]
(In that battle, O great king, which had commenced and was very fierce, all the Pāṇḍavas, the great souls, were seated.)
In that fierce battle that had commenced, O great king, all the noble Pāṇḍavas were seated.
ततस्तालध्वजो रामस्तयोर्युद्ध उपस्थिते। श्रुत्वा तच्छिष्ययो राजन्नाजगाम हलायुधः ॥९-३३-२॥
tatastāladhvajo rāmas tayor yuddha upasthite। śrutvā tacchiṣyayo rājann ājagāma halāyudhaḥ ॥9-33-2॥

(Then Tāladhvaja Rama, being present in the battle of them, having heard that, O King, Halayudha arrived.)

तं दृष्ट्वा परमप्रीताः पूजयित्वा नराधिपाः। शिष्ययोः कौशलं युद्धे पश्य रामेति चाब्रुवन् ॥९-३३-३॥
taṁ dṛṣṭvā paramaprītāḥ pūjayitvā narādhipāḥ। śiṣyayoḥ kauśalaṁ yuddhe paśya rāmeti cābruvan ॥9-33-3॥

(Having seen him, the kings, very pleased, having honored, said, "See the skill in battle of the disciples, O Rama.")
Upon seeing him, the kings, filled with great joy, honored him and said, "Behold the skill in battle of the disciples, O Rama."
अब्रवीच्च तदा रामो दृष्ट्वा कृष्णं च पाण्डवम्। दुर्योधनं च कौरव्यं गदापाणिमवस्थितम् ॥९-३३-४॥
abravīcca tadā rāmo dṛṣṭvā kṛṣṇaṃ ca pāṇḍavam। duryodhanaṃ ca kauravyaṃ gadāpāṇimavasthitam ॥9-33-4॥
[अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; च (ca) - and; तदा (tadā) - then; रामः (rāmaḥ) - Rama; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; कृष्णम् (kṛṣṇam) - Krishna; च (ca) - and; पाण्डवम् (pāṇḍavam) - Pandava; दुर्योधनम् (duryodhanam) - Duryodhana; च (ca) - and; कौरव्यम् (kauravyam) - Kaurava; गदापाणिम् (gadāpāṇim) - with mace in hand; अवस्थितम् (avasthitam) - standing;]
(Then Rama said, having seen Krishna and Pandava, and Duryodhana, the Kaurava, standing with mace in hand.)
Then Rama, upon seeing Krishna and the Pandava, as well as Duryodhana, the Kaurava, standing with a mace in hand, spoke.
चत्वारिंशदहान्यद्य द्वे च मे निःसृतस्य वै। पुष्येण सम्प्रयातोऽस्मि श्रवणे पुनरागतः ॥ शिष्ययोर्वै गदायुद्धं द्रष्टुकामोऽस्मि माधव ॥९-३३-५॥
catvāriṁśadahānyadya dve ca me niḥsṛtasya vai। puṣyeṇa samprayāto'smi śravaṇe punarāgataḥ ॥ śiṣyayorvai gadāyuddhaṁ draṣṭukāmo'smi mādhava ॥
[चत्वारिंशत् (catvāriṁśat) - forty; अहानि (ahāni) - days; अद्य (adya) - today; द्वे (dve) - two; च (ca) - and; मे (me) - my; निःसृतस्य (niḥsṛtasya) - departed; वै (vai) - indeed; पुष्येण (puṣyeṇa) - under the Pushya constellation; सम्प्रयातः (samprayātaḥ) - set out; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; श्रवणे (śravaṇe) - under the Shravana constellation; पुनरागतः (punarāgataḥ) - returned; शिष्ययोः (śiṣyayoḥ) - of the disciples; वै (vai) - indeed; गदायुद्धम् (gadāyuddham) - mace fight; द्रष्टुकामः (draṣṭukāmaḥ) - desiring to see; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; माधव (mādhava) - O Madhava;]
(Today, it has been forty-two days since I departed. I set out under the Pushya constellation and have returned under the Shravana constellation. O Madhava, I am indeed desiring to see the mace fight of the disciples.)

ततो युधिष्ठिरो राजा परिष्वज्य हलायुधम्। स्वागतं कुशलं चास्मै पर्यपृच्छद्यथातथम् ॥९-३३-६॥
tato yudhiṣṭhiro rājā pariṣvajya halāyudham। svāgataṃ kuśalaṃ cāsmai paryapṛcchadyathātatham ॥9-33-6॥

(Then King Yudhishthira, embracing Halayudha, asked him about his welcome and welfare as it was.)

कृष्णौ चापि महेष्वासावभिवाद्य हलायुधम्। सस्वजाते परिप्रीतौ प्रियमाणौ यशस्विनौ ॥९-३३-७॥

Krishna and Balarama, known as the great archers, respectfully greeted Halayudha (Balarama) and embraced him warmly, filled with affection and joy, as the renowned ones.
माद्रीपुत्रौ तथा शूरौ द्रौपद्याः पञ्च चात्मजाः। अभिवाद्य स्थिता राजन्रौहिणेयं महाबलम् ॥९-३३-८॥
mādrīputrau tathā śūrau draupadyāḥ pañca cātmajāḥ। abhivādya sthitā rājanrauhiṇeyaṃ mahābalam ॥9-33-8॥

(The sons of Madri and the five sons of Draupadi, having saluted, stood before the mighty son of Rohini, O king.)

भीमसेनोऽथ बलवान्पुत्रस्तव जनाधिप। तथैव चोद्यतगदौ पूजयामासतुर्बलम् ॥९-३३-९॥
bhīmaseno'tha balavānputrastava janādhipa। tathaiva codyatagadau pūjayāmāsaturbalam ॥9-33-9॥

(Then Bhimasena, your strong son, O ruler of men, thus indeed, with raised maces, honored the strength.)

(With welcome and having honored you there again and again, they said to Rama, "See the battle, O mighty-armed." Thus spoke the kings to the great soul, the son of Rohini.)

परिष्वज्य तदा रामः पाण्डवान्सृञ्जयानपि। अपृच्छत्कुशलं सर्वान्पाण्डवांश्चामितौजसः ॥ तथैव ते समासाद्य पप्रच्छुस्तमनामयम् ॥९-३३-११॥
pariṣvajya tadā rāmaḥ pāṇḍavānsṛñjayānapi। apṛcchatkuśalaṃ sarvānpāṇḍavāṃścāmitaujasaḥ ॥ tathaiva te samāsādya papracchustamanāmayam ॥9-33-11॥
[परिष्वज्य (pariṣvajya) - having embraced; तदा (tadā) - then; रामः (rāmaḥ) - Rama; पाण्डवान् (pāṇḍavān) - the Pandavas; सृञ्जयान् (sṛñjayān) - the Sṛñjayas; अपि (api) - also; अपृच्छत् (apṛcchat) - asked; कुशलं (kuśalam) - welfare; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; पाण्डवान् (pāṇḍavān) - the Pandavas; च (ca) - and; अमितौजसः (amitaujasaḥ) - of immeasurable energy; तथैव (tathaiva) - similarly; ते (te) - they; समासाद्य (samāsādya) - having approached; पप्रच्छुः (papracchuḥ) - asked; तम् (tam) - him; अनामयम् (anāmayam) - well-being;]
(Having embraced them, then Rama asked the welfare of all the Pandavas and the Sṛñjayas of immeasurable energy. Similarly, having approached, they asked him about his well-being.)

प्रत्यभ्यर्च्य हली सर्वान्क्षत्रियांश्च महामनाः। कृत्वा कुशलसंयुक्तां संविदं च यथावयः ॥९-३३-१२॥
pratyabhyarcya halī sarvānkṣatriyāṃśca mahāmanāḥ। kṛtvā kuśalasaṃyuktāṃ saṃvidaṃ ca yathāvayaḥ ॥9-33-12॥
[प्रत्यभ्यर्च्य (pratyabhyarcya) - having worshipped; हली (halī) - the plough-bearer; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; क्षत्रियान् (kṣatriyān) - warriors; च (ca) - and; महामनाः (mahāmanāḥ) - great-minded; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having made; कुशल (kuśala) - auspicious; संयुक्तां (saṃyuktāṃ) - agreement; संविदं (saṃvidaṃ) - understanding; च (ca) - and; यथावयः (yathāvayaḥ) - according to age;]
(Having worshipped all the warriors, the plough-bearer, great-minded, made an auspicious agreement and understanding according to age.)

जनार्दनं सात्यकिं च प्रेम्णा स परिषस्वजे। मूर्ध्नि चैतावुपाघ्राय कुशलं पर्यपृच्छत ॥९-३३-१३॥
janārdanaṃ sātyakiṃ ca premṇā sa pariṣasvaje। mūrdhni caitāvupāghrāya kuśalaṃ paryapṛcchata ॥9-33-13॥

(They two, O king, worshiped this teacher according to the rules, like Brahma, the lord of the gods, Indra and Upendra, joined with joy.)
Indra and Upendra, filled with joy, worshiped their teacher according to the prescribed rules, just as one would worship Brahma, the lord of the gods.
ततोऽब्रवीद्धर्मसुतो रौहिणेयमरिंदमम्। इदं भ्रात्रोर्महायुद्धं पश्य रामेति भारत ॥९-३३-१५॥
tato'bravīddharmasuto rauhiṇeyamariṃdamam। idaṃ bhrātrormahāyuddhaṃ paśya rāmeti bhārata ॥9-33-15॥

(Then the son of Dharma said to the son of Rohini, the conqueror of enemies: "See this great war of the brothers, O Rama," thus, O Bharata.)
Then Yudhishthira, the son of Dharma, addressed Balarama, the son of Rohini and conqueror of enemies, saying, "Behold this great war between the brothers, O Rama," thus spoke, O Bharata.
तेषां मध्ये महाबाहुः श्रीमान्केशवपूर्वजः। न्यविशत्परमप्रीतः पूज्यमानो महारथैः ॥९-३३-१६॥
teṣāṃ madhye mahābāhuḥ śrīmānkeśavapūrvajaḥ। nyaviśatparamaprītaḥ pūjyamāno mahārathaiḥ ॥9-33-16॥
[तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; मध्ये (madhye) - among; महाबाहुः (mahābāhuḥ) - mighty-armed; श्रीमान् (śrīmān) - glorious; केशवपूर्वजः (keśavapūrvajaḥ) - elder brother of Keśava; न्यविशत् (nyaviśat) - sat down; परमप्रीतः (paramaprītaḥ) - extremely pleased; पूज्यमानः (pūjyamānaḥ) - being honored; महारथैः (mahārathaiḥ) - by great charioteers;]
(Among them, the mighty-armed and glorious elder brother of Keśava sat down, extremely pleased, being honored by great charioteers.)

sa babhau rājamadhyastho nīlavāsāḥ sitaprabhaḥ। divīva nakṣatragaṇaiḥ parikīrṇo niśākaraḥ ॥9-33-17॥
[स (sa) - he; बभौ (babhau) - shone; राजमध्यस्थः (rājamadhyasthaḥ) - in the midst of kings; नीलवासाः (nīlavāsāḥ) - wearing blue garments; सितप्रभः (sitaprabhaḥ) - with a bright appearance; दिवि (divi) - in the sky; इव (iva) - like; नक्षत्रगणैः (nakṣatragaṇaiḥ) - with groups of stars; परिकीर्णः (parikīrṇaḥ) - surrounded; निशाकरः (niśākaraḥ) - moon;]
(He shone in the midst of kings, wearing blue garments and with a bright appearance, like the moon surrounded by groups of stars in the sky.)

ततस्तयोः संनिपातस्तुमुलो रोमहर्षणः। आसीदन्तकरो राजन्वैरस्य तव पुत्रयोः ॥९-३३-१८॥
tatas tayoḥ saṁnipātas tumulo romaharṣaṇaḥ। āsīd antakaro rājan vairasya tava putrayoḥ ॥9-33-18॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; तयोः (tayoḥ) - of them; संनिपातः (saṁnipātaḥ) - collision; तुमुलः (tumulaḥ) - tumultuous; रोमहर्षणः (romaharṣaṇaḥ) - hair-raising; आसीत् (āsīt) - was; अन्तकरः (antakaraḥ) - deadly; राजन् (rājan) - O king; वैरस्य (vairasya) - of enmity; तव (tava) - your; पुत्रयोः (putrayoḥ) - of the sons;]
(Then, the tumultuous and hair-raising collision of them was deadly, O king, of the enmity of your sons.)
