धन्योऽस्यनुगृहीतोऽसि यत्ते दृष्टः स्वयं प्रभुः। न हि तं दृष्टवान्कश्चित्पद्मयोनिरपि स्वयम् ॥१२-३३२-१॥
dhanyo'syanugṛhīto'si yatte dṛṣṭaḥ svayaṃ prabhuḥ। na hi taṃ dṛṣṭavān kaścit padmayonir api svayam ॥12-332-1॥
[धन्यः (dhanyaḥ) - fortunate; अस्य (asya) - of this (person); अनुगृहीतः (anugṛhītaḥ) - favoured; असि (asi) - you are; यत् (yat) - because; ते (te) - by you; दृष्टः (dṛṣṭaḥ) - seen; स्वयम् (svayam) - personally; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - the Lord; न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; तं (tam) - him; दृष्टवान् (dṛṣṭavān) - has seen; कश्चित् (kaścit) - anyone; पद्मयोनिः (padmayoniḥ) - Padmayoni (Brahmā); अपि (api) - even; स्वयम् (svayam) - personally;]
(Fortunate of this (person), favoured you are, because by you seen personally the Lord. Not indeed him has seen anyone, Padmayoni (Brahmā) even personally.)
You are fortunate and favoured, for you have personally seen the Lord. Indeed, no one, not even Padmayoni (Brahmā) himself, has seen Him personally. (12-332-1)
अव्यक्तयोनिर्भगवान्दुर्दर्शः पुरुषोत्तमः। नारदैतद्धि ते सत्यं वचनं समुदाहृतम् ॥१२-३३२-२॥
avyaktayonirbhagavāndurdarśaḥ puruṣottamaḥ। nāradaitad dhi te satyaṃ vacanaṃ samudāhṛtam ॥12-332-2॥
[अव्यक्तयोनिः (avyaktayoniḥ) - of unmanifest origin; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the glorious one; दुर्दर्शः (durdarśaḥ) - difficult to be seen; पुरुषोत्तमः (puruṣottamaḥ) - the supreme person; नारद (nārada) - O Nārada; एतत् (etat) - this; हि (hi) - indeed; ते (te) - to you; सत्यं (satyaṃ) - truth; वचनम् (vacanam) - statement; समुदाहृतम् (samudāhṛtam) - has been declared;]
(Of unmanifest origin, the glorious one, difficult to be seen, the supreme person. O Nārada, this indeed to you truth statement has been declared. (12-332-2))

नास्य भक्तैः प्रियतरो लोके कश्चन विद्यते। ततः स्वयं दर्शितवान्स्वमात्मानं द्विजोत्तम ॥१२-३३२-३॥
nāsya bhaktaiḥ priyataro loke kaścana vidyate। tataḥ svayaṃ darśitavān svam ātmānaṃ dvijottama ॥12-332-3॥
[न (na) - not; अस्य (asya) - of him; भक्तैः (bhaktaiḥ) - by devotees; प्रियतरः (priyataraḥ) - dearer; लोके (loke) - in the world; कश्चन (kaścana) - anyone; विद्यते (vidyate) - exists; ततः (tataḥ) - therefore; स्वयम् (svayam) - himself; दर्शितवान् (darśitavān) - showed; स्वम् (svam) - his own; आत्मानम् (ātmānam) - self; द्विजोत्तम (dvijottama) - O best of twice-born;]
(Not of him by devotees dearer in the world anyone exists. Therefore himself showed his own self, O best of twice-born.)
There is no one in this world dearer to him than his devotees. Therefore, O best of the twice-born, he himself revealed his own self. (12-332-3)
तपो हि तप्यतस्तस्य यत्स्थानं परमात्मनः। न तत्सम्प्राप्नुते कश्चिदृते ह्यावां द्विजोत्तम ॥१२-३३२-४॥
tapo hi tapyatastasya yatsthānaṃ paramātmanaḥ। na tatsamprāpnute kaścidṛte hyāvāṃ dvijottama ॥12-332-4॥
[तपः (tapaḥ) - austerity; हि (hi) - indeed; तप्यतः (tapyataḥ) - of one who performs austerity; तस्य (tasya) - of him; यत् (yat) - which; स्थानम् (sthānam) - state; परमात्मनः (paramātmanaḥ) - of the supreme self; न (na) - not; तत् (tat) - that; सम्प्राप्नुते (samprāpnute) - attains; कश्चित् (kaścit) - anyone; ऋते (ṛte) - except; हि (hi) - indeed; आवाम् (āvām) - we two; द्विजोत्तम (dvijottama) - O best of the twice-born;]
(Austerity indeed, of one who performs austerity, of him, which state, of the supreme self; not that attains anyone except indeed we two, O best of the twice-born.)
Indeed, O best of the twice-born, the state of the supreme self attained by austerity is not reached by anyone except for the two of us.
या हि सूर्यसहस्रस्य समस्तस्य भवेद्द्युतिः। स्थानस्य सा भवेत्तस्य स्वयं तेन विराजता ॥१२-३३२-५॥
yā hi sūryasahasrasya samastasya bhaveddyutiḥ। sthānasya sā bhavettasya svayaṃ tena virājatā ॥12-332-5॥
[या (yā) - which (feminine); हि (hi) - indeed; सूर्यसहस्रस्य (sūryasahasrasya) - of a thousand suns; समस्तस्य (samastasya) - of all (together); भवेत् (bhavet) - would be; might be; द्युतिः (dyutiḥ) - splendour; radiance; स्थानस्य (sthānasya) - of the place; सा (sā) - that (feminine); भवेत् (bhavet) - would be; might be; तस्य (tasya) - of him; his; स्वयं (svayaṃ) - himself; itself; तेन (tena) - by him; by that; विराजता (virājatā) - by the shining; by the radiance;]
(Which indeed of a thousand suns, of all, would be the splendour; of the place, that would be his, by himself, by that shining.)
The splendour that would be of a thousand suns all together, that would be the radiance of that place, by his own shining. (12-332-5)
तस्मादुत्तिष्ठते विप्र देवाद्विश्वभुवः पतेः। क्षमा क्षमावतां श्रेष्ठ यया भूमिस्तु युज्यते ॥१२-३३२-६॥
tasmād uttiṣṭhate vipra devād viśvabhuvaḥ pateḥ। kṣamā kṣamāvatāṃ śreṣṭha yayā bhūmis tu yujyate ॥12-332-6॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; from that; उत्तिष्ठते (uttiṣṭhate) - arise; stand up; विप्र (vipra) - brāhmaṇa; sage; देवात् (devāt) - from the god; विश्वभुवः (viśvabhuvaḥ) - of the sustainer of all; of the nourisher of the universe; पतेः (pateḥ) - of the lord; क्षमा (kṣamā) - forbearance; forgiveness; क्षमावतां (kṣamāvatāṃ) - of those who possess forbearance; श्रेष्ठ (śreṣṭha) - best; most excellent; यया (yayā) - by which; through which; भूमिः (bhūmiḥ) - earth; तु (tu) - but; indeed; युज्यते (yujyate) - is joined; is united;]
(Therefore arise, O brāhmaṇa, from the god, from the lord who nourishes the universe; forbearance is the best of those who possess forbearance, by which the earth indeed is united.)
Therefore, O brāhmaṇa, arise from the god, the lord who sustains the universe; forbearance is the greatest among those who possess it, by which the earth is indeed upheld. (12-332-6)
तस्माच्चोत्तिष्ठते देवात्सर्वभूतहितो रसः। आपो येन हि युज्यन्ते द्रवत्वं प्राप्नुवन्ति च ॥१२-३३२-७॥
tasmāc cotthiṣṭhate devāt sarvabhūtahito rasaḥ। āpo yena hi yujyante dravatvaṃ prāpnuvanti ca ॥12-332-7॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - from that; च (ca) - and; उत्तिष्ठते (utthiṣṭhate) - arises; देवात् (devāt) - from the god; सर्वभूतहितः (sarvabhūtahitaḥ) - beneficial to all beings; रसः (rasaḥ) - essence; आपः (āpaḥ) - waters; येन (yena) - by which; हि (hi) - indeed; युज्यन्ते (yujyante) - are joined; द्रवत्वम् (dravatvam) - fluidity; प्राप्नुवन्ति (prāpnuvanti) - attain; च (ca) - and;]
(From that and arises from the god the essence beneficial to all beings; the waters by which indeed are joined attain fluidity and.)
Therefore, from the god arises the essence that benefits all beings; it is by this that waters indeed are joined and attain fluidity. (12-332-7)
तस्मादेव समुद्भूतं तेजो रूपगुणात्मकम्। येन स्म युज्यते सूर्यस्ततो लोकान्विराजते ॥१२-३३२-८॥
tasmādeva samudbhūtaṃ tejo rūpaguṇātmakam। yena sma yujyate sūryastato lokānvirājate ॥12-332-8॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - from that; एव (eva) - indeed; समुद्भूतं (samudbhūtaṃ) - arisen; तेजः (tejaḥ) - radiance; रूपगुणात्मकम् (rūpaguṇātmakam) - having the nature of form and quality; येन (yena) - by which; स्म (sma) - indeed; युज्यते (yujyate) - is joined; सूर्यः (sūryaḥ) - the Sun; ततः (tataḥ) - from that; लोकान् (lokān) - worlds; विराजते (virājate) - shines forth;]
(From that indeed arisen radiance having the nature of form and quality; by which indeed is joined the Sun; from that the worlds shine forth.)
From that alone arises the radiance possessing the nature of form and quality; by which the Sun is indeed joined, and from that the worlds shine forth. (12-332-8)
तस्माद्देवात्समुद्भूतः स्पर्शस्तु पुरुषोत्तमात्। येन स्म युज्यते वायुस्ततो लोकान्विवात्यसौ ॥१२-३३२-९॥
tasmād devāt samudbhūtaḥ sparśas tu puruṣottamāt। yena sma yujyate vāyuḥ tato lokān vivāty asau ॥12-332-9॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - from that; देवात् (devāt) - from the god; समुद्भूतः (samudbhūtaḥ) - arisen; स्पर्शः (sparśaḥ) - touch; तु (tu) - but; पुरुषोत्तमात् (puruṣottamāt) - from the Supreme Person; येन (yena) - by which; स्म (sma) - indeed; युज्यते (yujyate) - is joined; वायुः (vāyuḥ) - wind; ततः (tataḥ) - from that; लोकान् (lokān) - worlds; विवाति (vivāti) - blows; असौ (asau) - he;]
(From that god arisen is touch, but from the Supreme Person; by which indeed is joined wind, from that he blows (through) the worlds.)
Thus, touch arises from that god, but from the Supreme Person; by which the wind is indeed joined, from that he blows through the worlds. (12-332-9)
तस्माच्चोत्तिष्ठते शब्दः सर्वलोकेश्वरात्प्रभोः। आकाशं युज्यते येन ततस्तिष्ठत्यसंवृतम् ॥१२-३३२-१०॥
tasmāc cotthiṣṭhate śabdaḥ sarvalokeśvarāt prabhoḥ। ākāśaṃ yujyate yena tata stiṣṭhaty asaṃvṛtam ॥12-332-10॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - from that; च (ca) - and; उत्तिष्ठते (utthiṣṭhate) - arises; शब्दः (śabdaḥ) - sound; सर्वलोकेश्वरात् (sarvalokeśvarāt) - from the lord of all worlds; प्रभोः (prabhoḥ) - of the master; आकाशं (ākāśam) - ether; युज्यते (yujyate) - is joined; येन (yena) - by which; ततः (tataḥ) - therefore; तिष्ठति (tiṣṭhati) - remains; असंवृतम् (asaṃvṛtam) - uncovered;]
(From that and arises sound from the lord of all worlds, of the master; ether is joined by which, therefore remains uncovered.)
Therefore, sound arises from the lord of all worlds, the master; by which ether is joined, and thus it remains uncovered. (12-332-10)
तस्माच्चोत्तिष्ठते देवात्सर्वभूतगतं मनः। चन्द्रमा येन संयुक्तः प्रकाशगुणधारणः ॥१२-३३२-११॥
tasmāc cotthiṣṭhate devāt sarvabhūtagataṃ manaḥ। candramā yena saṃyuktaḥ prakāśaguṇadhāraṇaḥ ॥12-332-11॥

(From that and arises from the god the mind pervading all beings. The moon, by which joined, possessing the quality of light. (12-332-11))
Therefore, from the god arises the mind that pervades all beings. The moon, being joined with it, possesses the quality of light. (12-332-11)
षड्भूतोत्पादकं नाम तत्स्थानं वेदसञ्ज्ञितम्। विद्यासहायो यत्रास्ते भगवान्हव्यकव्यभुक् ॥१२-३३२-१२॥
ṣaḍbhūtotpādakaṃ nāma tatsthānaṃ vedasañjñitam। vidyāsahāyo yatrāste bhagavānhavyakavyabhuk ॥12-332-12॥
[षट् (ṣaṭ) - six; भूत (bhūta) - element; उत्पादकं (utpādakaṃ) - originating; producer; नाम (nāma) - named; तत् (tat) - that; स्थानं (sthānaṃ) - place; वेद (veda) - Veda; सञ्ज्ञितम् (sañjñitam) - designated; named; विद्या (vidyā) - knowledge; सहायः (sahāyaḥ) - assistant; helper; यत्र (yatra) - where; अस्ते (aste) - dwells; abides; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the Lord; हव्य (havya) - oblations to gods; कव्य (kavya) - oblations to ancestors; भुक् (bhuk) - enjoyer; eater;]
(The place named the originator of the six elements, that place designated as Veda; where the helper of knowledge dwells, the Lord, the enjoyer of havya and kavya.)
That place, called the originator of the six elements and designated as the Veda, is where the Lord, the supporter of knowledge and the enjoyer of offerings to gods and ancestors, resides. (12-332-12)
ये हि निष्कल्मषा लोके पुण्यपापविवर्जिताः। तेषां वै क्षेममध्वानं गच्छतां द्विजसत्तम ॥ सर्वलोकतमोहन्ता आदित्यो द्वारमुच्यते ॥१२-३३२-१३॥
ye hi niṣkalmaṣā loke puṇyapāpavivarjitāḥ। teṣāṃ vai kṣemamadhvānaṃ gacchatāṃ dvijasattama ॥ sarvalokatamohantā ādityo dvāram ucyate ॥12-332-13॥
[ये (ye) - those who; हि (hi) - indeed; निष्कल्मषा (niṣkalmaṣā) - free from impurity; लोके (loke) - in the world; पुण्यपापविवर्जिताः (puṇyapāpavivarjitāḥ) - devoid of merit and demerit; तेषां (teṣāṃ) - of them; वै (vai) - indeed; क्षेममध्वानं (kṣemamadhvānam) - safe path; गच्छतां (gacchatām) - of those going; द्विजसत्तम (dvijasattama) - O best of twice-born; सर्वलोकतमोहन्ता (sarvalokatamohantā) - destroyer of darkness of all worlds; आदित्यः (ādityaḥ) - the Sun; द्वारम् (dvāram) - gate; उच्यते (ucyate) - is said;]
(Those who indeed are free from impurity in the world, devoid of merit and demerit; for them, O best of twice-born, of those going on the safe path, the destroyer of darkness of all worlds, the Sun, is said to be the gate. (12-332-13))
Those who are truly pure in this world, free from both merit and demerit—for them, O best of the twice-born, as they proceed on the safe path, the Sun, destroyer of the darkness of all worlds, is said to be the gateway. (12-332-13)
आदित्यदग्धसर्वाङ्गा अदृश्याः केनचित्क्वचित्। परमाणुभूता भूत्वा तु तं देवं प्रविशन्त्युत ॥१२-३३२-१४॥
ādityadagdh sarvāṅgā adṛśyāḥ kenacit kvacit। paramāṇubhūtā bhūtvā tu taṃ devaṃ praviśanty uta ॥12-332-14॥
[आदित्यदग्ध (ādityadagdh) - burnt by the sun; सर्वाङ्गा (sarvāṅgā) - all limbs; अदृश्याः (adṛśyāḥ) - invisible; केनचित् (kenacit) - by someone; क्वचित् (kvacit) - somewhere; परमाणुभूता (paramāṇubhūtā) - having become atomic; भूत्वा (bhūtvā) - having become; तु (tu) - but; तम् (tam) - that; देवम् (devam) - deity; प्रविशन्ति (praviśanti) - enter; उत (uta) - indeed;]
(Burnt by the sun, all limbs, invisible by someone somewhere, having become atomic, having become, but, that deity, enter, indeed.)
Having all their limbs burnt by the sun, becoming invisible to anyone anywhere, and having become atomic in form, they indeed enter that deity. (12-332-14)
तस्मादपि विनिर्मुक्ता अनिरुद्धतनौ स्थिताः। मनोभूतास्ततो भूयः प्रद्युम्नं प्रविशन्त्युत ॥१२-३३२-१५॥
tasmād api vinirmuktā aniruddhatanau sthitāḥ। manobhūtās tato bhūyaḥ pradyumnaṃ praviśanty uta ॥12-332-15॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - from that; अपि (api) - also; विनिर्मुक्ताः (vinirmuktāḥ) - completely released; अनिरुद्धतनौ (aniruddhatanau) - in the body of Aniruddha; स्थिताः (sthitāḥ) - situated; मनोभूताः (manobhūtāḥ) - mind-born beings; ततः (tataḥ) - from that; भूयः (bhūyaḥ) - again; प्रद्युम्नम् (pradyumnam) - Pradyumna; प्रविशन्ति (praviśanti) - enter; उत (uta) - indeed;]
(From that also, completely released, situated in the body of Aniruddha, the mind-born beings, from that, again, Pradyumna, enter, indeed.)
Thus, having been completely released from that, the mind-born beings who are situated in the body of Aniruddha again enter into Pradyumna. (12-332-15)
प्रद्युम्नाच्चापि निर्मुक्ता जीवं सङ्कर्षणं तथा। विशन्ति विप्रप्रवराः साङ्ख्या भागवतैः सह ॥१२-३३२-१६॥
pradyumnāccāpi nirmuktā jīvaṃ saṅkarṣaṇaṃ tathā। viśanti viprapravarāḥ sāṅkhyā bhāgava taiḥ saha ॥12-332-16॥
[प्रद्युम्नात् (pradyumnāt) - from Pradyumna; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; निर्मुक्ताः (nirmuktāḥ) - released; जीवम् (jīvam) - the living being; सङ्कर्षणम् (saṅkarṣaṇam) - Saṅkarṣaṇa; तथा (tathā) - also; विशन्ति (viśanti) - enter; विप्रप्रवराः (viprapravarāḥ) - the best of Brāhmaṇas; साङ्ख्याः (sāṅkhyāḥ) - followers of Sāṅkhya; भागवतैः (bhāgava taiḥ) - with the Bhāgavatas; सह (saha) - together with;]
(From Pradyumna and also released, the living being and Saṅkarṣaṇa also; enter the best of Brāhmaṇas, followers of Sāṅkhya, together with the Bhāgavatas.)
The best of Brāhmaṇas, followers of Sāṅkhya, together with the Bhāgavatas, after being released from Pradyumna and also from Saṅkarṣaṇa, enter into the living being. (12-332-16)
ततस्त्रैगुण्यहीनास्ते परमात्मानमञ्जसा। प्रविशन्ति द्विजश्रेष्ठ क्षेत्रज्ञं निर्गुणात्मकम् ॥ सर्वावासं वासुदेवं क्षेत्रज्ञं विद्धि तत्त्वतः ॥१२-३३२-१७॥
tatasttraiguṇyahīnāste paramātmānamañjasā। praviśanti dvijaśreṣṭha kṣetrajñaṃ nirguṇātmakam ॥ sarvāvāsaṃ vāsudevaṃ kṣetrajñaṃ viddhi tattvataḥ ॥12-332-17॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; त्रैगुण्यहीनाः (traiguṇyahīnāḥ) - devoid of the three guṇas; ते (te) - they; परमात्मानम् (paramātmānam) - the supreme self; अञ्जसा (añjasā) - directly; प्रविशन्ति (praviśanti) - enter; द्विजश्रेष्ठ (dvijaśreṣṭha) - O best of twice-born; क्षेत्रज्ञम् (kṣetrajñam) - the knower of the field; निर्गुणात्मकम् (nirguṇātmakam) - of the nature of being without qualities; सर्वावासम् (sarvāvāsaṃ) - the abode of all; वासुदेवम् (vāsudevam) - Vāsudeva; क्षेत्रज्ञम् (kṣetrajñam) - the knower of the field; विद्धि (viddhi) - know; तत्त्वतः (tattvataḥ) - truly;]
(Then, those devoid of the three guṇas, they directly enter the supreme self, O best of twice-born, the knower of the field, of the nature of being without qualities. Know truly the abode of all, Vāsudeva, as the knower of the field.)
Then, those who are free from the three guṇas directly enter the Supreme Self, O best of the twice-born, the knower of the field who is of the nature of being without qualities. Know truly that Vāsudeva, the abode of all, is the knower of the field. (12-332-17)
समाहितमनस्काश्च नियताः संयतेन्द्रियाः। एकान्तभावोपगता वासुदेवं विशन्ति ते ॥१२-३३२-१८॥
samāhitamanaskāś ca niyatāḥ saṃyatendriyāḥ। ekāntabhāvopagatā vāsudevaṃ viśanti te ॥12-332-18॥
[समाहित (samāhita) - collected; composed; मनस्काः (manaskāḥ) - minded; having mind; च (ca) - and; नियताः (niyatāḥ) - restrained; controlled; संयत (saṃyata) - restrained; इन्द्रियाः (indriyāḥ) - senses; एकान्त (ekānta) - solitude; seclusion; भाव (bhāva) - state; disposition; उपगता (upagatā) - having approached; attained; वासुदेवं (vāsudevam) - Vāsudeva; (Krishna); विशन्ति (viśanti) - enter; ते (te) - they;]
(Collected-minded and restrained, controlled senses, having attained the state of solitude, Vāsudeva enter they.)
Those whose minds are composed, who are self-controlled and have restrained senses, who have attained a state of solitude, they enter Vāsudeva. (12-332-18)
आवामपि च धर्मस्य गृहे जातौ द्विजोत्तम। रम्यां विशालामाश्रित्य तप उग्रं समास्थितौ ॥१२-३३२-१९॥
āvām api ca dharmasya gṛhe jātau dvijottama। ramyāṃ viśālām āśritya tapa ugraṃ samāsthitau ॥12-332-19॥
[आवाम् (āvām) - we two; अपि (api) - also; च (ca) - and; धर्मस्य (dharmasya) - of dharma; गृहे (gṛhe) - in the house; जातौ (jātau) - born; द्विजोत्तम (dvijottama) - O best of twice-born; रम्यां (ramyām) - beautiful; विशालाम् (viśālām) - spacious; आश्रित्य (āśritya) - having resorted to; तपः (tapaḥ) - austerity; उग्रम् (ugram) - severe; समास्थितौ (samāsthitau) - we two have undertaken;]
(We two also, and in the house of dharma, born, O best of twice-born, having resorted to the beautiful, spacious (place), severe austerity we two have undertaken.)
O best of the twice-born, we too were born in the house of Dharma, and having taken refuge in a beautiful and spacious place, we both undertook severe austerities. (12-332-19)
ये तु तस्यैव देवस्य प्रादुर्भावाः सुरप्रियाः। भविष्यन्ति त्रिलोकस्थास्तेषां स्वस्तीत्यतो द्विज ॥१२-३३२-२०॥
ye tu tasyaiva devasya prādurbhāvāḥ surapriyāḥ। bhaviṣyanti trilokasthāsteṣāṃ svastītyato dvija ॥12-332-20॥
[ये (ye) - who; (plural pronoun); तु (tu) - but; (indeed); तस्यैव (tasyaiva) - of him only; (tasya - of him; eva - only;) देवस्य (devasya) - of the god; (deva - god; sya - genitive;) प्रादुर्भावाः (prādurbhāvāḥ) - manifestations; (prādurbhāva - appearance; āḥ - plural;) सुरप्रियाः (surapriyāḥ) - dear to the gods; (sura - god; priyāḥ - dear ones;) भविष्यन्ति (bhaviṣyanti) - will be; (future tense of bhū - to be;) त्रिलोकस्थाः (trilokasthāḥ) - situated in the three worlds; (tri - three; loka - world; sthāḥ - situated;) तेषां (teṣāṃ) - of them; (teṣām - genitive plural of tad;) स्वस्ति (svasti) - well-being; (prosperity; auspiciousness;) इति (iti) - thus; (so;) अतः (ataḥ) - therefore; (from this;) द्विज (dvija) - O twice-born; (brahmin;);]
(Who but of him only, of the god, manifestations dear to the gods, will be situated in the three worlds; of them, well-being thus, therefore, O twice-born.)
But those manifestations of that very god, dear to the gods, who will exist in the three worlds—for them, therefore, O twice-born, say 'well-being'. (12-332-20)
विधिना स्वेन युक्ताभ्यां यथापूर्वं द्विजोत्तम। आस्थिताभ्यां सर्वकृच्छ्रं व्रतं सम्यक्तदुत्तमम् ॥१२-३३२-२१॥
vidhinā svena yuktābhyāṃ yathā-pūrvaṃ dvijottama। āsthitābhyāṃ sarva-kṛcchraṃ vrataṃ samyak-tad-uttamam ॥12-332-21॥
[विधिना (vidhinā) - by the rule; by the ordinance; स्वेन (svena) - by one's own; by his own; युक्ताभ्यां (yuktābhyāṃ) - by the two who are engaged; by the two who are joined; यथापूर्वं (yathā-pūrvam) - as before; as previously; द्विजोत्तम (dvijottama) - O best of twice-born; O excellent Brāhmaṇa; आस्थिताभ्यां (āsthitābhyāṃ) - by the two who have undertaken; by the two who have entered upon; सर्वकृच्छ्रं (sarva-kṛcchram) - all hardships; every difficulty; व्रतम् (vratam) - vow; observance; सम्यक् (samyak) - properly; rightly; तदुत्तमम् (tad-uttamam) - that highest; that best;]
(By the rule, by his own, by the two who are engaged, as before, O best of twice-born, by the two who have undertaken, all hardships, vow, properly, that highest.)
O best of the twice-born, as before, when the two who are properly engaged and have undertaken the vow by their own rule, they should properly observe that highest vow involving all hardships. (12-332-21)
आवाभ्यामपि दृष्टस्त्वं श्वेतद्वीपे तपोधन। समागतो भगवता सञ्जल्पं कृतवान्यथा ॥१२-३३२-२२॥
āvābhyām api dṛṣṭas tvaṃ śvetadvīpe tapodhana। samāgato bhagavatā sañjalpaṃ kṛtavānyathā ॥12-332-22॥
[आवाभ्याम् (āvābhyām) - by us two; अपि (api) - also; दृष्टः (dṛṣṭaḥ) - seen; त्वम् (tvaṃ) - you; श्वेतद्वीपे (śvetadvīpe) - in Śvetadvīpa; तपोधन (tapodhana) - O possessor of austerity; समागतः (samāgataḥ) - arrived; भगवता (bhagavatā) - by the venerable one; सञ्जल्पम् (sañjalpam) - conversation; कृतवान् (kṛtavān) - has made; यथा (yathā) - as;]
(By us two also you were seen in Śvetadvīpa, O possessor of austerity; having arrived, the venerable one made a conversation as (before). (12-332-22))
You too were seen by both of us in Śvetadvīpa, O ascetic; when the venerable one arrived, he engaged in conversation as before. (12-332-22)
सर्वं हि नौ संविदितं त्रैलोक्ये सचराचरे। यद्भविष्यति वृत्तं वा वर्तते वा शुभाशुभम् ॥१२-३३२-२३॥
sarvaṃ hi nau saṃviditaṃ trailokye sacarācare। yadbhaviṣyati vṛttaṃ vā vartate vā śubhāśubham ॥12-332-23॥
[सर्वं (sarvam) - all; हि (hi) - indeed; नौ (nau) - to us; संविदितं (saṃviditam) - known; त्रैलोक्ये (trailokye) - in the three worlds; सचराचरे (sacarācare) - among the moving and unmoving; यत् (yat) - what; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will happen; वृत्तं (vṛttam) - occurred; वा (vā) - or; वर्तते (vartate) - is happening; वा (vā) - or; शुभाशुभम् (śubhāśubham) - auspicious or inauspicious;]
(All indeed to us is known in the three worlds among the moving and unmoving; what will happen, what has occurred or is happening, whether auspicious or inauspicious.)
Indeed, everything in the three worlds, both moving and unmoving, is known to us—whatever will happen, has happened, or is happening, whether auspicious or inauspicious. (12-332-23)
वैशम्पायन उवाच॥

एतच्छ्रुत्वा तयोर्वाक्यं तपस्युग्रेऽभ्यवर्तत। नारदः प्राञ्जलिर्भूत्वा नारायणपरायणः ॥१२-३३२-२४॥
etacchrutvā tayorvākyaṃ tapasyugre'bhyavartata. nāradaḥ prāñjalirbhūtvā nārāyaṇaparāyaṇaḥ ॥12-332-24॥
[एतत् (etat) - this; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; तयोः (tayoh) - of those two; वाक्यम् (vākyam) - speech; तपस्य (tapasya) - in austerity; उग्रे (ugre) - intense; अभ्यवर्तत (abhyavartata) - he engaged; नारदः (nāradaḥ) - Nārada; प्राञ्जलिः (prāñjaliḥ) - with joined palms; भूत्वा (bhūtvā) - having become; नारायणपरायणः (nārāyaṇaparāyaṇaḥ) - devoted to Nārāyaṇa;]
(Having heard this speech of those two, Nārada, devoted to Nārāyaṇa, with joined palms, engaged in intense austerity.)
After hearing the words of those two, Nārada, devoted to Nārāyaṇa, with joined palms, undertook intense austerities. (12-332-24)
जजाप विधिवन्मन्त्रान्नारायणगतान्बहून्। दिव्यं वर्षसहस्रं हि नरनारायणाश्रमे ॥१२-३३२-२५॥
jajāpa vidhivanmantrānnārāyaṇagatānbahūn। divyaṃ varṣasahasraṃ hi naranārāyaṇāśrame ॥12-332-25॥
[जजाप (jajāpa) - he recited; (from root jap, to mutter or recite); विधिवत् (vidhivat) - according to procedure; मन्त्रान् (mantrān) - mantras; (sacred utterances); नारायणगतान् (nārāyaṇagatān) - related to Nārāyaṇa; (gone to or pertaining to Nārāyaṇa); बहून् (bahūn) - many; दिव्यं (divyaṃ) - divine; वर्षसहस्रं (varṣasahasraṃ) - a thousand years; हि (hi) - indeed; नरनारायणाश्रमे (naranārāyaṇāśrame) - in the hermitage of Nara and Nārāyaṇa;]
(He recited according to procedure mantras related to Nārāyaṇa, many, divine, for a thousand years indeed in the hermitage of Nara and Nārāyaṇa.)
He recited many mantras related to Nārāyaṇa, in the proper manner, for a thousand divine years in the hermitage of Nara and Nārāyaṇa. (12-332-25)
अवसत्स महातेजा नारदो भगवानृषिः। तमेवाभ्यर्चयन्देवं नरनारायणौ च तौ ॥१२-३३२-२६॥
avasats mahātejā nārado bhagavān ṛṣiḥ। tam evābhyarcayan devaṃ naranārāyaṇau ca tau ॥12-332-26॥
[अवसत्स् (avasats) - dwelt; महातेजा (mahātejā) - greatly radiant; नारदः (nāradaḥ) - Nārada; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the venerable; ऋषिः (ṛṣiḥ) - sage; तम् (tam) - him; एव (eva) - only; अभ्यर्चयन् (abhyarcayan) - worshipping; देवम् (devam) - the god; नरनारायणौ (naranārāyaṇau) - Nara and Nārāyaṇa; च (ca) - and; तौ (tau) - those two;]
(The greatly radiant sage Nārada dwelt. Nara and Nārāyaṇa, those two, worshipping only him, the god.)
The illustrious sage Nārada resided there, and Nara and Nārāyaṇa, those two, worshipped that very god. (12-332-26)
