mahāyogī tataḥ prāha kṛṣṇadvaipāyano muniḥ। paṭhasva putra bhadraṃ te prīyatāṃ te maheśvaraḥ ॥13-18-1॥
[महायोगी (mahāyogī) - great yogin; ततः (tataḥ) - then; प्राह (prāha) - spoke; कृष्णद्वैपायनः (kṛṣṇadvaipāyanaḥ) - Kṛṣṇa Dvaipāyana; मुनिः (muniḥ) - sage; पठस्व (paṭhasva) - recite; पुत्र (putra) - son; भद्रं (bhadraṃ) - welfare; ते (te) - to you; प्रीयताम् (prīyatām) - may be pleased; ते (te) - to you; महेश्वरः (maheśvaraḥ) - the great Lord;]

लब्धवानस्मि तान्कामानहं वै पाण्डुनन्दन। तथा त्वमपि शर्वाद्धि सर्वान्कामानवाप्स्यसि ॥१३-१८-३॥
labdhavānasmi tānkāmānahaṃ vai pāṇḍunandana। tathā tvamapi śarvāddhi sarvānkāmānavāpsyasi ॥13-18-3॥
[लब्धवान् (labdhavān) - one who has obtained; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; तान् (tān) - those; कामान् (kāmān) - desires; अहम् (aham) - I; वै (vai) - indeed; पाण्डुनन्दन (pāṇḍunandana) - O son of Pāṇḍu; तथा (tathā) - in the same way; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अपि (api) - also; शर्वात् (śarvāt) - from Śarva (Śiva); हि (hi) - indeed; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; कामान् (kāmān) - desires; अवाप्स्यसि (avāpsyasi) - you will obtain;]
(I am one who has obtained those desires indeed, O son of Pāṇḍu. In the same way, you also will obtain all desires from Śarva indeed.)
O son of Pāṇḍu, I have indeed obtained those desires. In the same way, you too will obtain all desires from Śarva (Śiva). (13-18-3)
चतुःशीर्षस्ततः प्राह शक्रस्य दयितः सखा। आलम्बायन इत्येव विश्रुतः करुणात्मकः ॥१३-१८-४॥

(The four-headed (Brahmā) then said: the beloved friend of Śakra, Ālambāyana, thus indeed well-known, of compassionate nature. 13-18-4)
Then the four-headed Brahmā spoke: 'Ālambāyana, the beloved friend of Śakra, is indeed well-known as one of compassionate nature.' (13-18-4)
मया गोकर्णमासाद्य तपस्तप्त्वा शतं समाः। अयोनिजानां दान्तानां धर्मज्ञानां सुवर्चसाम् ॥१३-१८-५॥
mayā gokarṇam āsādya tapas taptvā śataṃ samāḥ। ayonijānāṃ dāntānāṃ dharmajñānāṃ suvarcasām ॥13-18-5॥
[मया (mayā) - by me; गोकर्णम् (gokarṇam) - Gokarna (the holy place); आसाद्य (āsādya) - having reached; तपः (tapas) - austerity; तप्त्वा (taptvā) - having performed; शतम् (śatam) - a hundred; समाः (samāḥ) - years; अयोनिजानाम् (ayonijānām) - of those not born from the womb; दान्तानाम् (dāntānām) - of the self-restrained; धर्मज्ञानाम् (dharmajñānām) - of those who know dharma; सुवर्चसाम् (suvarcasām) - of those with great brilliance;]
(By me, having reached Gokarna, having performed austerity for a hundred years, of those not born from the womb, of the self-restrained, of those who know dharma, of those with great brilliance.)
Having reached Gokarna, I performed austerities for a hundred years among those not born from the womb, who are self-restrained, knowledgeable in dharma, and endowed with great brilliance. (13-18-5)
अजराणामदुःखानां शतवर्षसहस्रिणाम्। लब्धं पुत्रशतं शर्वात्पुरा पाण्डुनृपात्मज ॥१३-१८-६॥
ajarāṇāmaduḥkhānāṃ śatavarṣasahasriṇām। labdhaṃ putraśataṃ śarvāt purā pāṇḍunṛpātmaja ॥13-18-6॥
[अजराणाम् (ajarāṇām) - of the ageless; अदुःखानाम् (aduḥkhānām) - of the sorrowless; शतवर्षसहस्रिणाम् (śatavarṣasahasriṇām) - of those having a thousand hundreds of years; लब्धम् (labdham) - obtained; पुत्रशतम् (putraśatam) - hundred sons; शर्वात् (śarvāt) - from Śarva (Śiva); पुरा (purā) - formerly; पाण्डुनृपात्मज (pāṇḍunṛpātmaja) - O son of king Pāṇḍu;]
(O son of king Pāṇḍu, formerly, from Śarva, a hundred sons were obtained by those who were ageless, sorrowless, and possessed of a thousand hundreds of years.)
O son of King Pandu, in ancient times, those who were ageless, free from sorrow, and lived for thousands of years obtained a hundred sons from Śarva (Śiva). (13-18-6)
वाल्मीकिश्चापि भगवान्युधिष्ठिरमभाषत। विवादे साम्नि मुनिभिर्ब्रह्मघ्नो वै भवानिति ॥ उक्तः क्षणेन चाविष्टस्तेनाधर्मेण भारत ॥१३-१८-७॥
vālmīkiś cāpi bhagavān yudhiṣṭhiram abhāṣata। vivāde sāmni munibhir brahma-ghno vai bhavān iti ॥ uktaḥ kṣaṇena cāviṣṭas tenādharmeṇa bhārata ॥13-18-7॥

(Vālmīki and also the venerable addressed Yudhiṣṭhira. In dispute, in conciliation, by sages, 'slayer of a Brāhmaṇa indeed you thus' spoken. In a moment and overcome by that unrighteousness, O Bhārata. (13-18-7))
Vālmīki, the venerable sage, also addressed Yudhiṣṭhira. During the dispute, the sages conciliatorily said to him, 'You are indeed a slayer of a Brāhmaṇa.' In a moment, O Bhārata, he was overcome by that unrighteousness. (13-18-7)
सोऽहमीशानमनघमस्तौषं शरणं गतः। मुक्तश्चास्म्यवशः पापात्ततो दुःखविनाशनः ॥ आह मां त्रिपुरघ्नो वै यशस्तेऽग्र्यं भविष्यति ॥१३-१८-८॥
so'ham īśānam anagham astauṣam śaraṇam gataḥ। muktaś cāsmy avaśaḥ pāpāt tato duḥkha-vināśanaḥ॥ āha māṃ tripuraghno vai yaśas te'gryaṃ bhaviṣyati॥13-18-8॥
[सः (saḥ) - he; अहम् (aham) - I; ईशानम् (īśānam) - the Lord; अनघम् (anagham) - sinless; अस्तौषम् (astauṣam) - I praised; शरणम् (śaraṇam) - refuge; गतः (gataḥ) - gone; मुक्तः (muktaḥ) - liberated; च (ca) - and; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; अवशः (avaśaḥ) - helpless; पापात् (pāpāt) - from sin; ततः (tataḥ) - then; दुःखविनाशनः (duḥkha-vināśanaḥ) - destroyer of sorrow; आह (āha) - said; माम् (mām) - to me; त्रिपुरघ्नः (tripuraghnaḥ) - destroyer of Tripura; वै (vai) - indeed; यशः (yaśaḥ) - fame; ते (te) - your; अग्र्यम् (agryam) - supreme; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will be;]
(He, I, the Lord, sinless, I praised, refuge, gone; liberated and I am, helpless, from sin; then, destroyer of sorrow; said, to me, destroyer of Tripura, indeed, fame, your, supreme, will be.)
He—I, having gone to the sinless Lord as refuge, praised Him; I am liberated and freed from sin, helpless; then the destroyer of sorrow (Śiva) said to me, the destroyer of Tripura: "Indeed, your fame will be supreme." (13-18-8)
जामदग्न्यश्च कौन्तेयमाह धर्मभृतां वरः। ऋषिमध्ये स्थितस्तात तपन्निव विभावसुः ॥१३-१८-९॥
jāmadaghnyaś ca kaunteyam āha dharmabhṛtāṃ varaḥ। ṛṣimadhye sthitas tāta tapann iva vibhāvasuḥ ॥13-18-9॥
[जामदग्न्यः (jāmadaghnyaḥ) - descendant of Jamadagni; च (ca) - and; कौन्तेयम् (kaunteyam) - son of Kunti; आह (āha) - said; धर्मभृताम् (dharmabhṛtām) - of the upholders of dharma; वरः (varaḥ) - the best; ऋषिमध्ये (ṛṣimadhye) - in the midst of the sages; स्थितः (sthitaḥ) - standing; तात (tāta) - O dear one; तपन् (tapan) - shining; इव (iva) - like; विभावसुः (vibhāvasuḥ) - fire;]
(The descendant of Jamadagni and the best of the upholders of dharma said to the son of Kunti, standing in the midst of the sages, O dear one, shining like fire.)
O dear one, the descendant of Jamadagni, the foremost among the upholders of dharma, standing in the midst of the sages, said to the son of Kunti, shining like fire. (13-18-9)
पितृविप्रवधेनाहमार्तो वै पाण्डवाग्रज। शुचिर्भूत्वा महादेवं गतवाञ्शरणं नृप ॥१३-१८-१०॥
pitṛ-vipra-vadhena aham ārtaḥ vai pāṇḍava-agraja। śuciḥ bhūtvā mahādevam gatavān śaraṇam nṛpa ॥13-18-10॥

(By the killing of father and brāhmaṇa, I, afflicted indeed, O eldest of the Pāṇḍavas, having become pure, went to Mahādeva for refuge, O king.)
O eldest of the Pāṇḍavas, due to the killing of my father and a brāhmaṇa, I was afflicted. Having purified myself, I went to Mahādeva for refuge, O king. (13-18-10)
नामभिश्चास्तुवं देवं ततस्तुष्टोऽभवद्भवः। परशुं च ददौ देवो दिव्यान्यस्त्राणि चैव मे ॥१३-१८-११॥
nāmabhiś cāstuvaṁ devaṁ tataḥ tuṣṭo 'bhavad bhavaḥ। paraśuṁ ca dadau devo divyāny astrāṇi caiva me ॥13-18-11॥
[नामभिः (nāmabhiḥ) - with names; च (ca) - and; अस्तुवम् (astuvam) - I praised; देवम् (devam) - the god; ततः (tataḥ) - then; तुष्टः (tuṣṭaḥ) - pleased; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; भवः (bhavaḥ) - Bhava (Śiva); परशुम् (paraśum) - axe; च (ca) - and; ददौ (dadau) - gave; देवः (devaḥ) - the god; दिव्यानि (divyāni) - divine; अस्त्राणि (astrāṇi) - weapons; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; मे (me) - to me;]
(With names and I praised the god; then pleased became Bhava; axe and gave the god; divine weapons and indeed to me.)
I praised the god with names, and then Bhava (Śiva) became pleased; the god gave me an axe and also divine weapons. (13-18-11)
पापं न भविता तेऽद्य अजेयश्च भविष्यसि। न ते प्रभविता मृत्युर्यशस्वी च भविष्यसि ॥१३-१८-१२॥
pāpaṃ na bhavitā te'dya ajeyaś ca bhaviṣyasi। na te prabhavitā mṛtyur yaśasvī ca bhaviṣyasi ॥13-18-12॥
[पापं (pāpaṃ) - sin; न (na) - not; भविता (bhavitā) - will be; ते (te) - to you; अद्य (adya) - today; अजेयः (ajeyaḥ) - unconquerable; च (ca) - and; भविष्यसि (bhaviṣyasi) - you will become; न (na) - not; ते (te) - to you; प्रभविता (prabhavitā) - will prevail; मृत्युः (mṛtyuḥ) - death; यशस्वी (yaśasvī) - glorious; च (ca) - and; भविष्यसि (bhaviṣyasi) - you will become;]
(Sin will not be to you today; unconquerable and you will become. Not to you will prevail death; glorious and you will become. (13-18-12))
Today, sin will not befall you; you will become unconquerable. Death will not overcome you; you will become glorious. (13-18-12)
आह मां भगवानेवं शिखण्डी शिवविग्रहः। यदवाप्तं च मे सर्वं प्रसादात्तस्य धीमतः ॥१३-१८-१३॥
āha māṃ bhagavān evaṃ śikhaṇḍī śivavigrahaḥ। yad avāptaṃ ca me sarvaṃ prasādāt tasya dhīmataḥ॥13-18-13॥
[आह (āha) - said; माम् (mām) - to me; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the blessed one; एवम् (evam) - thus; शिखण्डी (śikhaṇḍī) - Śikhaṇḍī; शिवविग्रहः (śivavigrahaḥ) - having the form of Śiva; यत् (yat) - which; अवाप्तम् (avāptam) - obtained; च (ca) - and; मे (me) - by me; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; प्रसादात् (prasādāt) - by the grace; तस्य (tasya) - of him; धीमतः (dhīmataḥ) - the wise one;]
(Said to me the blessed one thus Śikhaṇḍī, having the form of Śiva. Which obtained and by me all by the grace of him, the wise one. (13-18-13))
The blessed one, Śikhaṇḍī, who has the form of Śiva, thus said to me: "All that I have obtained is by the grace of that wise one." (13-18-13)
असितो देवलश्चैव प्राह पाण्डुसुतं नृपम्। शापाच्छक्रस्य कौन्तेय चितो धर्मोऽनशन्मम ॥ तन्मे धर्मं यशश्चाग्र्यमायुश्चैवाददद्भवः ॥१३-१८-१४॥
asito devalaścaiva prāha pāṇḍusutaṃ nṛpam। śāpācchakrasya kaunteya cito dharmo'naśanmama ॥ tanme dharmaṃ yaśaścāgryamāyuścaivādadabhavaḥ ॥13-18-14॥

(Asita, Devala and indeed, said to Pāṇḍu's son, the king. From the curse of Śakra, O Kaunteya, consumed (by fire), dharma did not eat my (share). That to me, dharma, fame and supreme life indeed Bhava gave.)
Asita and Devala said to the son of Pāṇḍu, the king: 'Because of Śakra's curse, O Kaunteya, when I was consumed by fire, dharma did not enjoy my share.' Therefore, Bhava (Śiva) gave me dharma, fame, and the highest life. (13-18-14)
ऋषिर्गृत्समदो नाम शक्रस्य दयितः सखा। प्राहाजमीढं भगवान्बृहस्पतिसमद्युतिः ॥१३-१८-१५॥
ṛṣir gṛtsamado nāma śakrasya dayitaḥ sakhā। prāhājamīḍhaṃ bhagavān bṛhaspatisamadyutiḥ ॥13-18-15॥
[ऋषिः (ṛṣiḥ) - seer; गृत्समदः (gṛtsamadaḥ) - Gṛtsamada; नाम (nāma) - named; शक्रस्य (śakrasya) - of Śakra; दयितः (dayitaḥ) - beloved; सखा (sakhā) - friend; प्राह (prāha) - said; अजमीढम् (ajamīḍham) - to Ajamīḍha; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the venerable; बृहस्पतिसमद्युतिः (bṛhaspatisamadyutiḥ) - equal in splendor to Bṛhaspati;]

The seer named Gṛtsamada, the beloved friend of Śakra, who was as radiant as Bṛhaspati, spoke to Ajamīḍha. (13-18-15)
वसिष्ठो नाम भगवांश्चाक्षुषस्य मनोः सुतः। शतक्रतोरचिन्त्यस्य सत्रे वर्षसहस्रिके ॥ वर्तमानेऽब्रवीद्वाक्यं साम्नि ह्युच्चारिते मया ॥१३-१८-१६॥
vasiṣṭho nāma bhagavāṃścākṣuṣasya manoḥ sutaḥ। śatakratoracintyasya satre varṣasahasrike ॥ vartamāne'bravīdvākyaṃ sāmni hyuccārite mayā ॥13-18-16॥

The venerable Vasiṣṭha, son of Cākṣuṣa Manu, during the inconceivable thousand-year sacrifice of Śatakratu, as the Sāman was being chanted by me, spoke these words. (13-18-16)
रथन्तरं द्विजश्रेष्ठ न सम्यगिति वर्तते। समीक्षस्व पुनर्बुद्ध्या हर्षं त्यक्त्वा द्विजोत्तम ॥ अयज्ञवाहिनं पापमकार्षीस्त्वं सुदुर्मते ॥१३-१८-१७॥
rathantaraṃ dvijaśreṣṭha na samyagiti vartate। samīkṣasva punarbuddhyā harṣaṃ tyaktvā dvijottama ॥ ayajñavāhinaṃ pāpamakārṣīstvaṃ sudurmate ॥13-18-17॥
[रथन्तरं (rathantaraṃ) - Rathantara (a Sāma Veda chant); द्विजश्रेष्ठ (dvijaśreṣṭha) - O best of twice-born; न (na) - not; सम्यक् (samyak) - properly; इति (iti) - thus; वर्तते (vartate) - exists; समीक्षस्व (samīkṣasva) - examine; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; बुद्ध्या (buddhyā) - with intellect; हर्षं (harṣaṃ) - joy; त्यक्त्वा (tyaktvā) - having abandoned; द्विजोत्तम (dvijottama) - O best of twice-born; अयज्ञवाहिनं (ayajñavāhinaṃ) - not leading to sacrifice; पापम् (pāpam) - sin; अकार्षीः (akārṣīḥ) - you did; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; सुदुर्मते (sudurmate) - O very wicked-minded;]
(Rathantara, O best of twice-born, not properly thus exists. Examine again with intellect, having abandoned joy, O best of twice-born. Not leading to sacrifice, sin you did, you, O very wicked-minded.)
O best of the twice-born, the Rathantara does not exist properly in this way. Examine again with your intellect, having abandoned joy, O best of the twice-born. You, O very wicked-minded one, have committed a sin that does not lead to sacrifice. (13-18-17)

(Lost water and barley-grass, abandoned by animals and others; in a place with trees not fit for sacrifice, frequented by wild ox and lion; you will become a cruel animal endowed with great suffering.)
When water and barley-grass are lost, and the place is abandoned by animals and others, in a land of trees unfit for sacrifice, frequented by wild oxen and lions, you will become a cruel animal afflicted with great suffering. (13-18-19)
तस्य वाक्यस्य निधने पार्थ जातो ह्यहं मृगः। ततो मां शरणं प्राप्तं प्राह योगी महेश्वरः ॥१३-१८-२०॥
tasya vākyasya nidhane pārtha jāto hyahaṃ mṛgaḥ। tato māṃ śaraṇaṃ prāptaṃ prāha yogī maheśvaraḥ ॥13-18-20॥

O Pārtha, at the end of his speech, I was indeed born as a deer; then, having taken refuge in me, the yogi, the great lord, spoke. (13-18-20)
अजरश्चामरश्चैव भविता दुःखवर्जितः। साम्यं समस्तु ते सौख्यं युवयोर्वर्धतां क्रतुः ॥१३-१८-२१॥
ajaraś cā maraś caiva bhavitā duḥkhavarjitaḥ। sāmyaṃ samastu te saukhyaṃ yuvayor vardhatāṃ kratuḥ ॥13-18-21॥

(Not-aging and immortal indeed will be, devoid of suffering; let there be equality, for you happiness, of you two may increase the sacrifice.)
May you both become ageless and immortal, free from suffering; may equality and happiness be yours, and may your sacrifice increase. (13-18-21)
अनुग्रहानेवमेष करोति भगवान्विभुः। परं धाता विधाता च सुखदुःखे च सर्वदा ॥१३-१८-२२॥
anugrahānevaṃeṣa karoti bhagavān vibhuḥ। paraṃ dhātā vidhātā ca sukhaduḥkhe ca sarvadā ॥13-18-22॥

Thus, the Lord, the all-pervading, does favors; He is the supreme supporter and ordainer, always in both happiness and sorrow. (13-18-22)
अचिन्त्य एष भगवान्कर्मणा मनसा गिरा। न मे तात युधिश्रेष्ठ विद्यया पण्डितः समः ॥१३-१८-२३॥
acintya eṣa bhagavān karmaṇā manasā girā। na me tāta yudhiśreṣṭha vidyayā paṇḍitaḥ samaḥ ॥13-18-23॥

This Lord is beyond comprehension by action, mind, or speech. O dear one, O foremost among warriors, there is no learned person equal to Him by knowledge. (13-18-23)

tulyaṃ mama sahasraṃ tu sutānāṃ brahmavādinām। āyuścaiva saputrasya saṃvatsaraśatāyutam ॥13-18-26॥

अपि नामेप्सितः पुत्रो मम स्याद्वै महेश्वरात्। इति मत्वा हृदि मतं प्राह मां सुरसत्तमः ॥१३-१८-२८॥
api nāmepsitaḥ putro mama syād vai maheśvarāt। iti matvā hṛdi mataṃ prāha māṃ surasattamaḥ ॥13-18-28॥

(Indeed perhaps the desired son might be mine from Maheśvara; thus having thought, in (the) heart, (this) thought, said to me the best of the gods.)
Thinking in his heart, 'Indeed, perhaps I might obtain the desired son from Maheśvara,' the best of the gods spoke this thought to me. (13-18-28)
मयि सम्भवतस्तस्य फलात्कृष्णो भविष्यति। सावर्णस्य मनोः सर्गे सप्तर्षिश्च भविष्यति ॥१३-१८-२९॥
mayi sambhavatastasya phalātkṛṣṇo bhaviṣyati। sāvarṇasya manoḥ sarge saptaṛṣīśca bhaviṣyati ॥13-18-29॥

(In me, from being born, from the result of him, Kṛṣṇa will be. Of Sāvarṇi Manu, in the creation, the seven sages also will be. (13-18-29))
Kṛṣṇa will be born from me as a result of him. In the creation of Sāvarṇi Manu, the seven sages will also exist. (13-18-29)
वेदानां च स वै व्यस्ता कुरुवंशकरस्तथा। इतिहासस्य कर्ता च पुत्रस्ते जगतो हितः ॥१३-१८-३०॥
vedānāṃ ca sa vai vyastā kuruvaṃśakarastathā। itihāsasya kartā ca putraste jagato hitaḥ ॥13-18-30॥

He is indeed the expounder of the Vedas and the maker of the Kuru lineage; likewise, he is the author of history and your son, a benefit to the world. (13-18-30)
भविष्यति महेन्द्रस्य दयितः स महामुनिः। अजरश्चामरश्चैव पराशर सुतस्तव ॥१३-१८-३१॥
bhaviṣyati mahendrasya dayitaḥ sa mahāmuniḥ। ajaraś cāmaraś caiva parāśara sutas tava ॥13-18-31॥

(Thus having spoken, he, the illustrious one, there indeed disappeared. Yudhishthira, the great yogi, possessed of strength, imperishable, unchanging. (13-18-32))
Having thus spoken, the illustrious Lord disappeared right there. Yudhishthira, the great yogi, who is powerful, imperishable, and eternal. (13-18-32)

(When I, not a thief, was pierced on the stake due to suspicion of theft, then the god Maheshvara, praised by the one present there, indeed spoke to me.)
When I, though not a thief, was impaled on the stake on suspicion of theft, then Maheshvara, the great god, praised by the one present there, truly spoke to me. (13-18-33)
मोक्षं प्राप्स्यसि शूलाच्च जीविष्यसि समार्बुदम्। रुजा शूलकृता चैव न ते विप्र भविष्यति ॥ आधिभिर्व्याधिभिश्चैव वर्जितस्त्वं भविष्यसि ॥१३-१८-३४॥
mokṣaṃ prāpsyasi śūlāc ca jīviṣyasi samārbudam. rujā śūlakṛtā caiva na te vipra bhaviṣyati ॥ ādhibhir vyādhibhiś caiva varjitas tvaṃ bhaviṣyasi ॥13-18-34॥
[मोक्षं (mokṣam) - liberation; प्राप्स्यसि (prāpsyasi) - you will attain; शूलात् (śūlāt) - from pain; च (ca) - and; जीविष्यसि (jīviṣyasi) - you will live; सम् (sam) - entire; अर्बुदम् (arbudam) - ten crores; रुजा (rujā) - pain; शूलकृता (śūlakṛtā) - caused by pain; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; न (na) - not; ते (te) - to you; विप्र (vipra) - O brāhmaṇa; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will be; आधिभिः (ādhibhiḥ) - by mental afflictions; व्याधिभिः (vyādhibhiḥ) - by diseases; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; वर्जितः (varjitaḥ) - freed; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; भविष्यसि (bhaviṣyasi) - will be;]
(Liberation you will attain; from pain and you will live entire ten crores. Pain caused by pain and indeed not to you, O brāhmaṇa, will be. By mental afflictions, by diseases and indeed freed you will be.)
You will attain liberation; you will live for a full ten crores (of years) free from pain. Pain caused by pain will not befall you, O brāhmaṇa. You will be free from mental afflictions and diseases. (13-18-34)
पादाच्चतुर्थात्सम्भूत आत्मा यस्मान्मुने तव। त्वं भविष्यस्यनुपमो जन्म वै सफलं कुरु ॥१३-१८-३५॥
pādāc caturthāt sambhūta ātmā yasmān mune tava। tvaṃ bhaviṣyasy anupamo janma vai saphalaṃ kuru॥13-18-35॥

O sage, from whose fourth foot the self has arisen, your future birth will be incomparable; indeed, make it fruitful. (13-18-35)
तीर्थाभिषेकं सफलं त्वमविघ्नेन चाप्स्यसि। स्वर्गं चैवाक्षयं विप्र विदधामि तवोर्जितम् ॥१३-१८-३६॥
tīrthābhiṣekaṃ saphalaṃ tvamavighnena cāpsyasi। svargaṃ caivākṣayaṃ vipra vidadhāmi tavorjitam ॥13-18-36॥

(The sacred place anointing fruitful you without obstacle and you will obtain; heaven and indeed imperishable Brāhmaṇa I bestow to you earned.)
You will successfully complete the sacred bathing without any obstacle; O Brāhmaṇa, I grant you the imperishable heaven that you have earned. (13-18-36)
एवमुक्त्वा तु भगवान्वरेण्यो वृषवाहनः। महेश्वरो महाराज कृत्तिवासा महाद्युतिः ॥ सगणो दैवतश्रेष्ठस्तत्रैवान्तरधीयत ॥१३-१८-३७॥

श्रुत्वा जनन्या वचनं निराशो गुरुदर्शने। नियतात्मा महादेवमपश्यं सोऽब्रवीच्च माम् ॥१३-१८-४०॥

(Permitted by the venerable one, having gone home, Yudhishthira, I saw my father, dear one, having performed the sacrifice, departed.)

उपस्पृश्य गृहीत्वेध्मं कुशांश्च शरणाद्गुरून्। तान्विसृज्य च मां प्राह पिता सास्राविलेक्षणः ॥१३-१८-४३॥
upaspṛśya gṛhītv edhmaṃ kuśāṃś ca śaraṇād gurūn। tān visṛjya ca māṃ prāha pitā sāśrāvilakṣaṇaḥ ॥13-18-43॥

प्रणमन्तं परिष्वज्य मूर्ध्नि चाघ्राय पाण्डव। दिष्ट्या दृष्टोऽसि मे पुत्र कृतविद्य इहागतः ॥१३-१८-४४॥
praṇamantaṃ pariṣvajya mūrdhni cāghrāya pāṇḍava। diṣṭyā dṛṣṭo'si me putra kṛtavidya ihāgataḥ ॥13-18-44॥

(Then Kṛṣṇa, the best of the intelligent, again spoke a word to Yudhiṣṭhira, always devoted to dharma, like Indra, the lord.)
Then Kṛṣṇa, the foremost among the wise, again addressed Yudhiṣṭhira, who is ever devoted to righteousness, as the lord addresses Indra. (13-18-46)
आदित्यचन्द्रावनिलानलौ च; द्यौर्भूमिरापो वसवोऽथ विश्वे। धातार्यमा शुक्रबृहस्पती च; रुद्राः ससाध्या वरुणो वित्तगोपः ॥१३-१८-४७॥

cintāgatā ye ca deveṣu mukhyā; ye cāpyanye devatāścājamīḍha. suparṇagandharvapiśācadānavā; yakṣāstathā pannagāścāraṇāśca ॥13-18-52॥

O Ajamīḍha, those who are absorbed in thought, both the chief among the gods and other divinities, as well as Suparṇas, Gandharvas, Piśācas, Dānavas, Yakṣas, serpents, and Cāraṇas (celestial bards), all (were present). (13-18-52)
सूक्ष्मं स्थूलं मृदु यच्चाप्यसूक्ष्मं; सुखं दुःखं सुखदुःखान्तरं च। साङ्ख्यं योगं यत्पराणां परं च; शर्वाज्जातं विद्धि यत्कीर्तितं मे ॥१३-१८-५३॥
sūkṣmaṃ sthūlaṃ mṛdu yaccāpyasūkṣmaṃ; sukhaṃ duḥkhaṃ sukhaduḥkhāntaraṃ ca. sāṅkhyaṃ yogaṃ yatparāṇāṃ paraṃ ca; śarvājjātaṃ viddhi yatkīrtitaṃ me ॥13-18-53॥

(Subtle, gross, soft, and also not subtle; pleasure, pain, and that which is other than pleasure and pain; Sāṅkhya, Yoga, that which is of the supreme, and the supreme; arisen from Śarva, know that which is declared by me.)
Know that all which is subtle, gross, soft, and not subtle; pleasure, pain, and what is beyond pleasure and pain; Sāṅkhya, Yoga, that which is of the supreme and the supreme itself; all this, arisen from Śarva (Śiva), is what I have declared to you. (13-18-53)
तत्सम्भूता भूतकृतो वरेण्याः; सर्वे देवा भुवनस्यास्य गोपाः। आविश्येमां धरणीं येऽभ्यरक्ष; न्पुरातनीं तस्य देवस्य सृष्टिम् ॥१३-१८-५४॥
tatsambhūtā bhūtakṛto vareṇyāḥ; sarve devā bhuvanasyāsya gopāḥ. āviśyemāṃ dharaṇīṃ ye'bhyarakṣa; npurātanīṃ tasya devasya sṛṣṭim ॥13-18-54॥
[तत् (tat) - that; सम्भूता (sambhūtā) - having arisen together; भूतकृतः (bhūtakṛtaḥ) - creators of beings; वरेण्याः (vareṇyāḥ) - most excellent; सर्वे (sarve) - all; देवाः (devāḥ) - gods; भुवनस्य (bhuvanasya) - of the world; अस्य (asya) - of this; गोपाः (gopāḥ) - protectors; आविश्य (āviśya) - having entered; इमां (imāṃ) - this; धरणीम् (dharaṇīm) - earth; ये (ye) - who; अभ्यरक्षन् (abhyarakṣan) - protected; पुरातनीम् (purātanīm) - ancient; तस्य (tasya) - of that; देवस्य (devasya) - of the god; सृष्टिम् (sṛṣṭim) - creation;]
(That having arisen together, creators of beings, most excellent; all gods, protectors of this world. Having entered this earth, who protected the ancient creation of that god.)

विचिन्वन्तं मनसा तोष्टुवीमि; किञ्चित्तत्त्वं प्राणहेतोर्नतोऽस्मि। ददातु देवः स वरानिहेष्टा; नभिष्टुतो नः प्रभुरव्ययः सदा ॥१३-१८-५५॥
vicinvantaṃ manasā toṣṭuvīmi; kiñcittattvaṃ prāṇahetornato'smi. dadātu devaḥ sa varāniheṣṭā; nabhiṣṭuto naḥ prabhuravyayaḥ sadā ॥13-18-55॥
[विचिन्वन्तं (vicinvantam) - seeking; मनसा (manasā) - with mind; तोष्टुवीमि (toṣṭuvīmi) - I praise; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - a little; तत्त्वं (tattvam) - truth; प्राणहेतोः (prāṇahetoḥ) - of the cause of life; नतः (nataḥ) - bowed; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; ददातु (dadātu) - may give; देवः (devaḥ) - the god; स (sa) - he; वरान् (varān) - boons; इह (iha) - here; इष्टा (iṣṭā) - desired; नः (naḥ) - to us; नभिः (nabhiḥ) - by the navel; स्तुतः (stutaḥ) - praised; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - the lord; अव्ययः (avyayaḥ) - imperishable; सदा (sadā) - always;]
(Seeking with mind I praise; a little truth of the cause of life, bowed I am. May the god, he, give boons here desired to us; by the navel praised, the lord imperishable always. (13-18-55))

इमं स्तवं संनियम्येन्द्रियाणि; शुचिर्भूत्वा यः पुरुषः पठेत। अभग्नयोगो नियतोऽब्दमेकं; स प्राप्नुयादश्वमेधे फलं यत् ॥१३-१८-५६॥
imaṃ stavaṃ saṃniyamyendriyāṇi; śucirbhūtvā yaḥ puruṣaḥ paṭheta. abhagnayogo niyato'bdamekaṃ; sa prāpnuyādaśvamedhe phalaṃ yat ॥13-18-56॥

(This hymn, having restrained the senses, having become pure, who man should recite; with unbroken practice, disciplined, one year; he would obtain in the horse-sacrifice the fruit which.)
Whoever, having restrained the senses and become pure, recites this hymn with unbroken discipline for one year, he obtains the fruit which is gained by the horse-sacrifice. (13-18-56)
वेदान्कृत्स्नान्ब्राह्मणः प्राप्नुयाच्च; जयेद्राजा पृथिवीं चापि कृत्स्नाम्। वैश्यो लाभं प्राप्नुयान्नैपुणं च; शूद्रो गतिं प्रेत्य तथा सुखं च ॥१३-१८-५७॥
vedānkṛtsnānbrāhmaṇaḥ prāpnuyācca; jayedrājā pṛthivīṃ cāpi kṛtsnām। vaiśyo lābhaṃ prāpnuyānnaipuṇaṃ ca; śūdro gatiṃ pretya tathā sukhaṃ ca ॥13-18-57॥

(The Brāhmaṇa should attain all the Vedas; the king should conquer the entire earth also; the Vaiśya should attain gain and skill; the Śūdra, having departed, likewise happiness and progress.)
The Brāhmaṇa attains all the Vedas; the king conquers the whole earth; the Vaiśya gains profit and skill; and the Śūdra, after death, attains progress and happiness. (13-18-57)
स्तवराजमिमं कृत्वा रुद्राय दधिरे मनः। सर्वदोषापहं पुण्यं पवित्रं च यशस्विनम् ॥१३-१८-५८॥
stavarājam imaṁ kṛtvā rudrāya dadhire manaḥ। sarvadoṣāpahaṁ puṇyaṁ pavitraṁ ca yaśasvinam ॥13-18-58॥
[स्तवराजम् (stavarājam) - king of hymns; इमम् (imam) - this; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having made; रुद्राय (rudrāya) - to Rudra; दधिरे (dadhire) - placed; मनः (manaḥ) - mind; सर्वदोषापहम् (sarvadoṣāpaham) - remover of all faults; पुण्यम् (puṇyam) - meritorious; पवित्रम् (pavitram) - pure; च (ca) - and; यशस्विनम् (yaśasvinam) - glorious;]
(Having made this king of hymns, to Rudra, (they) placed (their) mind; remover of all faults, meritorious, pure and glorious.)

यावन्त्यस्य शरीरेषु रोमकूपाणि भारत। तावद्वर्षसहस्राणि स्वर्गे वसति मानवः ॥१३-१८-५९॥
yāvantyasya śarīreṣu romakūpāṇi bhārata। tāvadvārṣasahasrāṇi svarge vasati mānavaḥ ॥13-18-59॥
[यावन्ति (yāvanti) - as many as; अस्य (asya) - of this; शरीरेषु (śarīreṣu) - in the bodies; रोमकूपाणि (romakūpāṇi) - hair follicles; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; तावत् (tāvat) - so many; वर्षसहस्राणि (varṣasahasrāṇi) - thousands of years; स्वर्गे (svarge) - in heaven; वसति (vasati) - dwells; मानवः (mānavaḥ) - a man;]
(As many as hair follicles are in the bodies of this one, O Bhārata; for so many thousands of years a man dwells in heaven.)
O Bhārata, as many hair follicles as there are in this body, for that many thousands of years a man resides in heaven. (13-18-59)
