ke pūjyāḥ ke namaskāryā mānavair bharatarṣabha। vistareṇa tad ācakṣva na hi tṛpyāmi kathyatām ॥13-32-1॥

अत्राप्युदाहरन्तीममितिहासं पुरातनम्। नारदस्य च संवादं वासुदेवस्य चोभयोः ॥१३-३२-२॥
atrāpy udāharantīmam itihāsaṃ purātanam। nāradasya ca saṃvādaṃ vāsudevasya cobhayoḥ ॥13-32-2॥

वरुणं वायुमादित्यं पर्जन्यं जातवेदसम्। स्थाणुं स्कन्दं तथा लक्ष्मीं विष्णुं ब्रह्माणमेव च ॥१३-३२-६॥

तपोधनान्वेदविदो नित्यं वेदपरायणान्। महार्हान्वृष्णिशार्दूल सदा सम्पूजयाम्यहम् ॥१३-३२-८॥
tapodhanān vedavido nityaṃ vedaparāyaṇān। mahārhān vṛṣṇiśārdūla sadā sampūjayāmy aham ॥13-32-8॥
[तपोधनान् (tapodhanān) - those whose wealth is austerity; वेदविदः (vedavidaḥ) - knowers of the Veda; नित्यं (nityaṃ) - always; वेदपरायणान् (vedaparāyaṇān) - those devoted to the Veda; महार्हान् (mahārhān) - most worthy; वृष्णिशार्दूल (vṛṣṇiśārdūla) - O tiger among the Vrishni; सदा (sadā) - always; सम्पूजयामि (sampūjayāmi) - I worship; अहम् (aham) - I;]

अभुक्त्वा देवकार्याणि कुर्वते येऽविकत्थनाः। सन्तुष्टाश्च क्षमायुक्तास्तान्नमस्याम्यहं विभो ॥१३-३२-९॥
abhuktvā devakāryāṇi kurvate ye'vikatthanāḥ। santuṣṭāś ca kṣamāyuktās tān namasyāmy ahaṃ vibho ॥13-32-9॥
[अभुक्त्वा (abhuktvā) - without having enjoyed; not eating; देवकार्याणि (devakāryāṇi) - divine duties; acts for the gods; कुर्वते (kurvate) - they perform; do; ये (ye) - who; those who; अविकत्थनाः (avikatthanāḥ) - not boasting; without pride; सन्तुष्टाः (santuṣṭāḥ) - content; satisfied; च (ca) - and; क्षमायुक्ताः (kṣamāyuktāḥ) - endowed with forgiveness; possessing patience; तान् (tān) - them; those; नमस्यामि (namasyāmi) - I bow; I salute; अहम् (aham) - I; विभो (vibho) - O Lord; master;]
(Without having enjoyed, those who perform divine duties, who are not boasting, content and endowed with forgiveness, them I bow, I, O Lord. (13-32-9))

सम्यग्ददति ये चेष्टान्क्षान्ता दान्ता जितेन्द्रियाः। सस्यं धनं क्षितिं गाश्च तान्नमस्यामि यादव ॥१३-३२-१०॥
samyagdadati ye ceṣṭānkṣāntā dāntā jitendriyāḥ। sasyaṃ dhanaṃ kṣitiṃ gāśca tānnamasyāmi yādava ॥13-32-10॥

ये ते तपसि वर्तन्ते वने मूलफलाशनाः। असञ्चयाः क्रियावन्तस्तान्नमस्यामि यादव ॥१३-३२-११॥

प्रसन्नहृदयाश्चैव सर्वसत्त्वेषु नित्यशः। आ पृष्ठतापात्स्वाध्याये युक्तास्तान्पूजयाम्यहम् ॥१३-३२-१४॥
prasannahṛdayāścaiva sarvasattveṣu nityaśaḥ। ā pṛṣṭhatāpātsvādhyāye yuktāstānpūjayāmyaham ॥13-32-14॥

गुरुप्रसादे स्वाध्याये यतन्ते ये स्थिरव्रताः। शुश्रूषवोऽनसूयन्तस्तान्नमस्यामि यादव ॥१३-३२-१५॥

भैक्ष्यचर्यासु निरताः कृशा गुरुकुलाश्रयाः। निःसुखा निर्धना ये च तान्नमस्यामि यादव ॥१३-३२-१७॥
bhaikṣyacaryāsu niratāḥ kṛśā gurukulāśrayāḥ। niḥsukhā nirdhanā ye ca tānnamasyāmi yādava ॥13-32-17॥

nirmamā niṣpratidvandvā nirhrīkā niṣprayojanāḥ। ahiṁsā-niratā ye ca ye ca satyavratā narāḥ ॥ dāntāḥ śamaparāś caiva tān namasyāmi keśava ॥13-32-18॥

येषां त्रिवर्गः कृत्येषु वर्तते नोपहीयते। शिष्टाचारप्रवृत्ताश्च तान्नमस्याम्यहं सदा ॥१३-३२-२०॥
yeṣāṃ trivargaḥ kṛtyeṣu vartate nopahīyate। śiṣṭācārapravṛttāś ca tān namasyāmy ahaṃ sadā ॥13-32-20॥
[येषां (yeṣām) - of whom; त्रिवर्गः (trivargaḥ) - the three aims (dharma, artha, kāma); कृत्येषु (kṛtyeṣu) - in actions; वर्तते (vartate) - exists; न (na) - not; उपहीयते (upahīyate) - is diminished; शिष्टाचारप्रवृत्ताः (śiṣṭācārapravṛttāḥ) - engaged in the conduct of the virtuous; च (ca) - and; तान् (tān) - them; नमस्यामि (namasyāmi) - I bow; अहम् (aham) - I; सदा (sadā) - always;]
(Of whom the three aims (dharma, artha, kāma) in actions exists, is not diminished; engaged in the conduct of the virtuous and them I bow, I always.)
I always bow to those in whom the three aims of life (dharma, artha, kāma) are present in their actions and are never diminished, and who are engaged in the conduct of the virtuous. (13-32-20)
ब्राह्मणास्त्रिषु लोकेषु ये त्रिवर्गमनुष्ठिताः। अलोलुपाः पुण्यशीलास्तान्नमस्यामि केशव ॥१३-३२-२१॥
brāhmaṇās triṣu lokeṣu ye trivargam anuṣṭhitāḥ। alolupāḥ puṇyaśīlās tān namasyāmi keśava ॥13-32-21॥
[ब्राह्मणाः (brāhmaṇāḥ) - Brāhmaṇas; त्रिषु (triṣu) - in three; लोकेषु (lokeṣu) - worlds; ये (ye) - who; त्रिवर्गम् (trivargam) - three aims (dharma, artha, kāma); अनुष्ठिताः (anuṣṭhitāḥ) - practiced; अलोलुपाः (alolupāḥ) - not greedy; पुण्यशीलाः (puṇyaśīlāḥ) - of virtuous character; तान् (tān) - those; नमस्यामि (namasyāmi) - I bow; केशव (keśava) - Keśava;]
(Brāhmaṇas in three worlds who have practiced the three aims, not greedy, of virtuous character, those I bow, Keśava.)
O Keśava, I bow to those Brāhmaṇas in the three worlds who have practiced the three aims of life, are not greedy, and possess virtuous character. (13-32-21)
अब्भक्षा वायुभक्षाश्च सुधाभक्षाश्च ये सदा। व्रतैश्च विविधैर्युक्तास्तान्नमस्यामि माधव ॥१३-३२-२२॥
abbhakṣā vāyubhakṣāś ca sudhābhakṣāś ca ye sadā। vrataiś ca vividhair yuktās tān namasyāmi mādhava ॥13-32-22॥
[अब्भक्षा (abbhakṣāḥ) - those who eat water; वायुभक्षाः (vāyubhakṣāḥ) - those who eat air; च (ca) - and; सुधाभक्षाः (sudhābhakṣāḥ) - those who eat nectar; च (ca) - and; ये (ye) - who; सदा (sadā) - always; व्रतैः (vrataiḥ) - by vows; च (ca) - and; विविधैः (vividhaiḥ) - various; युक्ताः (yuktāḥ) - engaged; तान् (tān) - them; नमस्यामि (namasyāmi) - I bow; माधव (mādhava) - O Mādhava;]
(Those who eat water, those who eat air, and those who eat nectar, who always are engaged by various vows, them I bow, O Mādhava. (13-32-22))
O Mādhava, I bow to those who subsist on water, air, or nectar, and who are always engaged in various vows. (13-32-22)
अयोनीनग्नियोनींश्च ब्रह्मयोनींस्तथैव च। सर्वभूतात्मयोनींश्च तान्नमस्याम्यहं द्विजान् ॥१३-३२-२३॥
ayonīnagniyonīṁś ca brahmayonīṁs tathaiva ca। sarvabhūtātmayonīṁś ca tān namasyāmy ahaṁ dvijān ॥13-32-23॥
[अयोनीन् (ayonīn) - not-born-from-a-womb; अग्नियोनीन् (agniyonīn) - born-from-fire; च (ca) - and; ब्रह्मयोनीन् (brahmayonīn) - born-from-Brahman; तथैव (tathaiva) - in the same way; च (ca) - and; सर्वभूतात्मयोनीन् (sarvabhūtātmayonīn) - born-from-the-soul-of-all-beings; च (ca) - and; तान् (tān) - them; नमस्यामि (namasyāmi) - I bow; अहम् (aham) - I; द्विजान् (dvijān) - twice-borns;]
(Not-born-from-a-womb, born-from-fire, and born-from-Brahman, in the same way, and born-from-the-soul-of-all-beings, and them I bow, I, twice-borns.)
I bow to those twice-borns who are not born from a womb, who are born from fire, who are born from Brahman, and who are born from the soul of all beings. (13-32-23)
नित्यमेतान्नमस्यामि कृष्ण लोककरानृषीन्। लोकज्येष्ठाञ्ज्ञाननिष्ठांस्तमोघ्नाँल्लोकभास्करान् ॥१३-३२-२४॥
nityametānnamasyāmi kṛṣṇa lokakarānṛṣīn। lokajyeṣṭhāñjñānaniṣṭhāṃstamoghnāṃllokabhāskarān ॥13-32-24॥
[नित्य (nitya) - always; एतान् (etān) - these; नमस्यामि (namasyāmi) - I bow; कृष्ण (kṛṣṇa) - Kṛṣṇa; लोककरान् (lokakarān) - world-makers; ऋषीन् (ṛṣīn) - sages; लोकज्येष्ठान् (lokajyeṣṭhān) - elders of the world; ज्ञाननिष्ठान् (jñānaniṣṭhān) - established in knowledge; तमोघ्नान् (tamoghnān) - destroyers of darkness; लोकभास्करान् (lokabhāskarān) - suns of the world;]
(Always these I bow, Kṛṣṇa, world-makers sages, elders of the world, established in knowledge, destroyers of darkness, suns of the world.)
O Kṛṣṇa, I always bow to these sages who are the creators of worlds, the elders of the world, established in knowledge, destroyers of darkness, and the suns of the world. (13-32-24)
तस्मात्त्वमपि वार्ष्णेय द्विजान्पूजय नित्यदा। पूजिताः पूजनार्हा हि सुखं दास्यन्ति तेऽनघ ॥१३-३२-२५॥
tasmāttvamapi vārṣṇeya dvijānpūjaya nityadā। pūjitāḥ pūjanārhā hi sukhaṃ dāsyanti te'nagha ॥13-32-25॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अपि (api) - also; वार्ष्णेय (vārṣṇeya) - O descendant of Vṛṣṇi; द्विजान् (dvijān) - the twice-born; पूजय (pūjaya) - honor; नित्यदा (nityadā) - always; पूजिताः (pūjitāḥ) - being honored; पूजनार्हाः (pūjanārhāḥ) - worthy of honor; हि (hi) - indeed; सुखम् (sukham) - happiness; दास्यन्ति (dāsyanti) - will give; ते (te) - to you; अनघ (anagha) - O sinless one;]
(Therefore you also, O descendant of Vṛṣṇi, always honor the twice-born. Being honored, those worthy of honor indeed will give happiness to you, O sinless one.)
Therefore, O descendant of Vṛṣṇi, you too should always honor the twice-born. When honored, those worthy of honor will surely grant you happiness, O sinless one. (13-32-25)
अस्मिँल्लोके सदा ह्येते परत्र च सुखप्रदाः। त एते मान्यमाना वै प्रदास्यन्ति सुखं तव ॥१३-३२-२६॥
asmiñloke sadā hyete paratra ca sukhapradāḥ। ta ete mānyamānā vai pradāsyanti sukhaṃ tava ॥13-32-26॥
[अस्मिन् (asmin) - in this; लोके (loke) - world; सदा (sadā) - always; हि (hi) - indeed; एते (ete) - these; परत्र (paratra) - in the next (world); च (ca) - and; सुखप्रदाः (sukhapradāḥ) - givers of happiness; ते (te) - they; एते (ete) - these; मान्यमानाः (mānyamānāḥ) - being honored; वै (vai) - indeed; प्रदास्यन्ति (pradāsyanti) - will give; सुखम् (sukham) - happiness; तव (tava) - to you;]
(In this world always indeed these in the next (world) and givers of happiness; they these being honored indeed will give happiness to you.)
These, when honored, always grant happiness in this world and in the next; they will indeed bestow happiness upon you. (13-32-26)
ये सर्वातिथयो नित्यं गोषु च ब्राह्मणेषु च। नित्यं सत्ये च निरता दुर्गाण्यतितरन्ति ते ॥१३-३२-२७॥
ye sarvātithayo nityaṃ goṣu ca brāhmaṇeṣu ca। nityaṃ satye ca niratā durgāṇyatitaraṇti te ॥13-32-27॥
[ये (ye) - who; सर्वातिथयः (sarvātithayaḥ) - all guests; नित्यं (nityaṃ) - always; गोषु (goṣu) - in cows; च (ca) - and; ब्राह्मणेषु (brāhmaṇeṣu) - in Brāhmaṇas; च (ca) - and; नित्यं (nityaṃ) - always; सत्ये (satye) - in truth; च (ca) - and; निरताः (niratāḥ) - engaged; दुर्गाणि (durgāṇi) - difficulties; अतितरन्ति (atitaraṇti) - cross over; ते (te) - they;]
(Who all guests always in cows and in Brāhmaṇas and always in truth and engaged, difficulties cross over they.)
Those who always honor all guests, are devoted to cows and Brāhmaṇas, and are always engaged in truth, they cross over difficulties. (13-32-27)
नित्यं शमपरा ये च तथा ये चानसूयकाः। नित्यं स्वाध्यायिनो ये च दुर्गाण्यतितरन्ति ते ॥१३-३२-२८॥
nityaṃ śamaparā ye ca tathā ye cānasūyakāḥ। nityaṃ svādhyāyino ye ca durgāṇy atitaranti te ॥13-32-28॥
[नित्यं (nityaṃ) - always; शमपरा (śamaparāḥ) - intent on tranquility; ये (ye) - who; च (ca) - and; तथा (tathā) - likewise; ये (ye) - who; च (ca) - and; अनसूयकाः (anasūyakāḥ) - free from envy; नित्यं (nityaṃ) - always; स्वाध्यायिनः (svādhyāyinaḥ) - engaged in self-study; ये (ye) - who; च (ca) - and; दुर्गाणि (durgāṇi) - difficulties; अतितरन्ति (atitaranti) - cross over; ते (te) - they;]
(Always intent on tranquility, who and likewise who and free from envy; always engaged in self-study, who and difficulties cross over, they. (13-32-28))
Those who are always intent on tranquility, who are likewise free from envy, who are always engaged in self-study—such people cross over all difficulties. (13-32-28)
सर्वान्देवान्नमस्यन्ति ये चैकं देवमाश्रिताः। श्रद्दधानाश्च दान्ताश्च दुर्गाण्यतितरन्ति ते ॥१३-३२-२९॥
sarvāndevānnamasyanti ye caikaṃ devamāśritāḥ। śraddadhānāś ca dāntāś ca durgāṇy atitaranti te ॥13-32-29॥
[सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; (accusative plural); देवान् (devān) - gods; (accusative plural); नमस्यन्ति (namasyanti) - bow to; (they salute); ये (ye) - who; (plural); च (ca) - and; एकं (ekaṃ) - one; (accusative singular); देवम् (devam) - god; (accusative singular); आश्रिताः (āśritāḥ) - who have taken refuge; (plural); श्रद्दधानाः (śraddadhānāḥ) - faithful; (having faith); च (ca) - and; दान्ताः (dāntāḥ) - self-controlled; (restrained); च (ca) - and; दुर्गाणि (durgāṇi) - difficulties; (hardships); अतितरन्ति (atitaranti) - cross over; (they overcome); ते (te) - they;]
(All gods bow to those who, having taken refuge in the one god, are faithful and self-controlled; they cross over difficulties.)
All the gods bow to those who have taken refuge in the one God; those who are faithful and self-controlled cross over all difficulties. (13-32-29)
तथैव विप्रप्रवरान्नमस्कृत्य यतव्रतान्। भवन्ति ये दानरता दुर्गाण्यतितरन्ति ते ॥१३-३२-३०॥
tathaiva viprapravarān namaskṛtya yatavratān। bhavanti ye dānaratā durgāṇy atitaranti te ॥13-32-30॥
[तथैव (tathaiva) - in the same way; विप्रप्रवरान् (viprapravarān) - the best among Brāhmaṇas; नमस्कृत्य (namaskṛtya) - having bowed; यतव्रतान् (yatavratān) - those of restrained vows; भवन्ति (bhavanti) - become; ये (ye) - who; दानरता (dānaratā) - delighted in giving; दुर्गाणि (durgāṇi) - difficulties; अतितरन्ति (atitaranti) - cross over; ते (te) - they;]
(In the same way, having bowed to the best among Brāhmaṇas, those of restrained vows, those who are delighted in giving, they cross over difficulties.)
Likewise, by bowing to the foremost Brāhmaṇas who are steadfast in their vows, those who delight in giving overcome all difficulties. (13-32-30)
अग्नीनाधाय विधिवत्प्रयता धारयन्ति ये। प्राप्ताः सोमाहुतिं चैव दुर्गाण्यतितरन्ति ते ॥१३-३२-३१॥
agnīn ādhāya vidhivat prayatā dhārayanti ye। prāptāḥ somāhutiṃ caiva durgāṇy atitaranti te ॥13-32-31॥
[अग्नीन् (agnīn) - fires (sacrificial); आधाय (ādhāya) - having established; विधिवत् (vidhivat) - according to rule; प्रयताः (prayatāḥ) - purified; धारयन्ति (dhārayanti) - maintain; ये (ye) - who; प्राप्ताः (prāptāḥ) - having obtained; सोमाहुतिम् (somāhutiṃ) - offering of Soma; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; दुर्गाणि (durgāṇi) - difficulties; अतितरन्ति (atitaranti) - cross over; ते (te) - they;]
(Who, having established the fires according to rule, purified, maintain (them); having obtained the offering of Soma and indeed, they cross over difficulties.)
Those who, having properly established the sacrificial fires and being purified, maintain them, and who have obtained the Soma offering, they indeed cross over all difficulties. (13-32-31)
मातापित्रोर्गुरुषु च सम्यग्वर्तन्ति ये सदा। यथा त्वं वृष्णिशार्दूलेत्युक्त्वैवं विरराम सः ॥१३-३२-३२॥
mātāpitrorguruṣu ca samyagvartanti ye sadā। yathā tvaṃ vṛṣṇiśārdūletyuktvaivaṃ virarāma saḥ ॥13-32-32॥
[मातापित्रोः (mātāpitror) - of mother and father; गुरुषु (guruṣu) - in teachers; च (ca) - and; सम्यक् (samyak) - properly; वर्तन्ति (vartanti) - behave; ये (ye) - who; सदा (sadā) - always; यथा (yathā) - as; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; वृष्णिशार्दूल (vṛṣṇiśārdūla) - O tiger among the Vṛṣṇis; इति (iti) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having said; एवम् (evam) - thus; विरराम (virarāma) - ceased; सः (saḥ) - he;]
(Of mother and father, in teachers and, properly behave who always; as you, O tiger among the Vṛṣṇis, thus having said thus, ceased he.)
Those who always behave properly towards their mother, father, and teachers, just as you do, O tiger among the Vṛṣṇis—having said this, he became silent. (13-32-32)
तस्मात्त्वमपि कौन्तेय पितृदेवद्विजातिथीन्। सम्यक्पूजय येन त्वं गतिमिष्टामवाप्स्यसि ॥१३-३२-३३॥
tasmāttvamapi kaunteya pitṛdevadvijātithīn। samyakpūjaya yena tvaṃ gatimiṣṭāmavāpsyasi ॥13-32-33॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; from that; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अपि (api) - also; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - O son of Kunti; पितृ (pitṛ) - father; ancestor; देव (deva) - deity; द्विज (dvija) - twice-born; Brahmin; अतिथीन् (atithīn) - guests; सम्यक् (samyak) - properly; rightly; पूजय (pūjaya) - worship; honor; येन (yena) - by which; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; गतिम् (gatim) - goal; path; इष्टाम् (iṣṭām) - desired; अवाप्स्यसि (avāpsyasi) - you will attain;]
(Therefore you also, O son of Kunti, the fathers, deities, twice-born, guests, properly worship; by which you the desired goal will attain.)
Therefore, O son of Kunti, you too should properly honor fathers, deities, Brahmins, and guests; by doing so, you will attain your desired goal. (13-32-33)
