evam etan mahāprājña yathāttha vidurādya mām। mamāpi paramo harṣaḥ sambandhe'smin kṛte vibho ॥1-199-1॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; एतत् (etat) - this; महाप्राज्ञ (mahāprājña) - O greatly wise; यथा (yathā) - as; अत्थ (attha) - you have spoken; विदुर (vidura) - O Vidura; आद्य (ādya) - and others; माम् (mām) - me; मम (mama) - my; अपि (api) - also; परमः (paramaḥ) - supreme; हर्षः (harṣaḥ) - joy; सम्बन्धे (sambandhe) - in the relationship; अस्मिन् (asmin) - in this; कृते (kṛte) - having been made; विभो (vibho) - O lord;]
(Thus this, O greatly wise, as you have spoken, O Vidura and others, me; my also supreme joy in the relationship in this having been made, O lord.)
O greatly wise one, just as you, Vidura and others, have spoken to me, I too feel supreme joy at the establishment of this relationship, O lord.
गमनं चापि युक्तं स्याद्गृहमेषां महात्मनाम्। न तु तावन्मया युक्तमेतद्वक्तुं स्वयं गिरा ॥१-१९९-२॥
gamanaṃ cāpi yuktaṃ syād gṛhameṣāṃ mahātmanām। na tu tāvanmayā yuktam etad vaktuṃ svayaṃ girā ॥1-199-2॥
[गमनम् (gamanaṃ) - going; movement; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; युक्तम् (yuktam) - proper; suitable; स्यात् (syāt) - may be; might be; गृहम् (gṛham) - house; home; एषाम् (eṣām) - of these; महात्मनाम् (mahātmanām) - of the great souls; न (na) - not; तु (tu) - but; तावत् (tāvat) - so much; to that extent; मया (mayā) - by me; युक्तम् (yuktam) - proper; suitable; एतत् (etat) - this; वक्तुम् (vaktum) - to say; to speak; स्वयम् (svayam) - myself; by myself; गिरा (girā) - by speech; by words;]
(Going also is proper to the house of these great souls; but so much is not proper for me to say this myself by speech.)
It is indeed proper for these great souls to go to their house; but it is not proper for me to say this much myself in words.
यदा तु मन्यते वीरः कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः। भीमसेनार्जुनौ चैव यमौ च पुरुषर्षभौ ॥१-१९९-३॥
yadā tu manyate vīraḥ kuntīputro yudhiṣṭhiraḥ। bhīmasenārjunau caiva yamau ca puruṣarṣabhau ॥1-199-3॥
[यदा (yadā) - when; तु (tu) - but; मन्यते (manyate) - thinks; वीरः (vīraḥ) - hero; कुन्तीपुत्रः (kuntīputraḥ) - son of Kuntī; युधिष्ठिरः (yudhiṣṭhiraḥ) - Yudhiṣṭhira; भीमसेनार्जुनौ (bhīmasenārjunau) - Bhīmasena and Arjuna; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; यमौ (yamau) - the two sons of Yama; च (ca) - and; पुरुषर्षभौ (puruṣarṣabhau) - bulls among men;]
(When, however, the hero, the son of Kuntī, Yudhiṣṭhira, thinks (so), Bhīmasena and Arjuna indeed, and the two sons of Yama, and the bulls among men.)
When the heroic son of Kuntī, Yudhiṣṭhira, considers (thus), Bhīmasena and Arjuna, as well as the two sons of Yama, the foremost among men, (are involved).
रामकृष्णौ च धर्मज्ञौ तदा गच्छन्तु पाण्डवाः। एतौ हि पुरुषव्याघ्रावेषां प्रियहिते रतौ ॥१-१९९-४॥
rāmakṛṣṇau ca dharmajñau tadā gacchantu pāṇḍavāḥ। etau hi puruṣavyāghrāveṣāṃ priyahite ratau ॥1-199-4॥

(Rāma and Kṛṣṇa and knowers of dharma then let them go the Pāṇḍavas. These two indeed tiger-men of these in welfare and affection engaged.)
At that time, Rāma and Kṛṣṇa, who are knowers of dharma, let the Pāṇḍavas go. These two, indeed the best among men, are devoted to the welfare and affection of these (Pāṇḍavas).

paravanto vayaṃ rājan tvayi sarve sahānugāḥ। yathā vakṣyasi naḥ prītyā kariṣyāmas tathā vayam ॥1-199-5॥

(Obedient we, O king, to you all together followers; as you will say to us with affection, so we shall do, we.)
O king, we are all obedient followers of you; whatever you say to us with affection, we shall do accordingly.

यथैव मन्यते वीरो दाशार्हः पुरुषोत्तमः। प्राप्तकालं महाबाहुः सा बुद्धिर्निश्चिता मम ॥१-१९९-७॥
yathaiva manyate vīro dāśārhaḥ puruṣottamaḥ। prāptakālaṃ mahābāhuḥ sā buddhirniścitā mama ॥1-199-7॥
[यथा (yathā) - just as; एव (eva) - indeed; मन्यते (manyate) - thinks; वीरः (vīraḥ) - hero; दाशार्हः (dāśārhaḥ) - the descendant of the Daśārhas (Krishna); पुरुषोत्तमः (puruṣottamaḥ) - the best among men; प्राप्तकालम् (prāptakālam) - at the right time; महाबाहुः (mahābāhuḥ) - mighty-armed; सा (sā) - that; बुद्धिः (buddhiḥ) - understanding; निश्चिता (niścitā) - determined; मम (mama) - my;]
(Just as indeed the hero, the descendant of the Daśārhas, the best among men, mighty-armed, thinks at the right time, that determined understanding is mine.)
Just as the mighty-armed hero, Krishna, the best among men, thinks at the right time, so is my determined understanding.
यथैव हि महाभागाः कौन्तेया मम साम्प्रतम्। तथैव वासुदेवस्य पाण्डुपुत्रा न संशयः ॥१-१९९-८॥
yathaiva hi mahābhāgāḥ kaunteyā mama sāmpratam। tathaiva vāsudevasya pāṇḍuputrā na saṃśayaḥ ॥1-199-8॥
[यथा (yathā) - just as; एव (eva) - indeed; हि (hi) - certainly; महाभागाः (mahābhāgāḥ) - greatly fortunate ones; कौन्तेयाः (kaunteyāḥ) - sons of Kuntī; मम (mama) - my; साम्प्रतम् (sāmpratam) - at present; तथा (tathā) - so; एव (eva) - indeed; वासुदेवस्य (vāsudevasya) - of Vāsudeva; पाण्डुपुत्राः (pāṇḍuputrāḥ) - sons of Pāṇḍu; न (na) - not; संशयः (saṃśayaḥ) - doubt;]
(Just as indeed the greatly fortunate sons of Kuntī are mine at present, so indeed the sons of Pāṇḍu are of Vāsudeva, not (is there) doubt.)
Just as the greatly fortunate sons of Kuntī are now mine, so too the sons of Pāṇḍu belong to Vāsudeva—there is no doubt about this.
न तद्ध्यायति कौन्तेयो धर्मपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः। यदेषां पुरुषव्याघ्रः श्रेयो ध्यायति केशवः ॥१-१९९-९॥
na taddhyāyati kaunteyo dharmaputro yudhiṣṭhiraḥ। yadeṣāṃ puruṣavyāghraḥ śreyo dhyāyati keśavaḥ ॥1-199-9॥
[न (na) - not; तत् (tat) - that; ध्यायति (dhyāyati) - meditates upon; कौन्तेयः (kaunteyaḥ) - son of Kunti; धर्मपुत्रः (dharmaputraḥ) - son of Dharma; युधिष्ठिरः (yudhiṣṭhiraḥ) - Yudhishthira; यत् (yat) - which; एषाम् (eṣām) - of these; पुरुषव्याघ्रः (puruṣavyāghraḥ) - tiger among men; श्रेयः (śreyaḥ) - the best (good); ध्यायति (dhyāyati) - meditates upon; केशवः (keśavaḥ) - Keśava (Krishna);]
(Not that meditates upon the son of Kunti, the son of Dharma, Yudhishthira, which of these the tiger among men, the best, meditates upon Keśava.)
Yudhishthira, the son of Kunti and Dharma, does not contemplate that which Keśava, the tiger among men, considers to be the best for them.

tataste samanujñātā drupadena mahātmanā। pāṇḍavāścaiva kṛṣṇaśca viduraśca mahāmatiḥ ॥1-199-10॥

(Then they, having been permitted by Drupada, the great-souled, the Pāṇḍavas and indeed Kṛṣṇa and Vidura, the great-minded.)
Then, having received permission from the noble Drupada, the Pāṇḍavas, along with Kṛṣṇa and the wise Vidura, proceeded onward.
आदाय द्रौपदीं कृष्णां कुन्तीं चैव यशस्विनीम्। सविहारं सुखं जग्मुर्नगरं नागसाह्वयम् ॥१-१९९-११॥

Having brought Draupadī (Kṛṣṇā), Kuntī, and the illustrious lady, they, along with their companions, happily proceeded to the city of Nāgasāhvaya (Hastināpura).
श्रुत्वा चोपस्थितान्वीरान्धृतराष्ट्रोऽपि कौरवः। प्रतिग्रहाय पाण्डूनां प्रेषयामास कौरवान् ॥१-१९९-१२॥
śrutvā copasthitān vīrān dhṛtarāṣṭro'pi kauravaḥ। pratigrahāya pāṇḍūnāṃ preṣayāmāsa kauravān ॥1-199-12॥

विकर्णं च महेष्वासं चित्रसेनं च भारत। द्रोणं च परमेष्वासं गौतमं कृपमेव च ॥१-१९९-१३॥

तैस्ते परिवृता वीराः शोभमाना महारथाः। नगरं हास्तिनपुरं शनैः प्रविविशुस्तदा ॥१-१९९-१४॥
tais te parivṛtā vīrāḥ śobhamānā mahārathāḥ। nagaraṃ hāstinapuraṃ śanaiḥ praviviśus tadā॥1-199-14॥

कौतूहलेन नगरं दीर्यमाणमिवाभवत्। यत्र ते पुरुषव्याघ्राः शोकदुःखविनाशनाः ॥१-१९९-१५॥
kautūhalena nagaraṃ dīryamāṇamivābhavat। yatra te puruṣavyāghrāḥ śokaduḥkhavināśanāḥ ॥1-199-15॥
[कौतूहलेन (kautūhalena) - with curiosity; नगरम् (nagaraṃ) - city; दीर्यमाणम् (dīryamāṇam) - being torn apart; इव (iva) - as if; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; यत्र (yatra) - where; ते (te) - those; पुरुषव्याघ्राः (puruṣavyāghrāḥ) - tiger-men (heroic men); शोकदुःखविनाशनाः (śokaduḥkhavināśanāḥ) - destroyers of sorrow and pain;]
(With curiosity, the city became as if being torn apart. Where those tiger-men, destroyers of sorrow and pain, (were).)
Out of curiosity, the city seemed to be in turmoil, where those heroic men, destroyers of sorrow and pain, were present.
तत उच्चावचा वाचः प्रियाः प्रियचिकीर्षुभिः। उदीरिता अशृण्वंस्ते पाण्डवा हृदयङ्गमाः ॥१-१९९-१६॥
tat uccāvacā vācaḥ priyāḥ priyacikīrṣubhiḥ। udīritā aśṛṇvan te pāṇḍavā hṛdayaṅgamāḥ ॥1-199-16॥

The Pāṇḍavas heard those affectionate words, both high and low, spoken by those wishing to please, which touched their hearts.
अयं स पुरुषव्याघ्रः पुनरायाति धर्मवित्। यो नः स्वानिव दायादान्धर्मेण परिरक्षति ॥१-१९९-१७॥
ayaṃ sa puruṣavyāghraḥ punar āyāti dharmavit। yo naḥ svān iva dāyādān dharmeṇa parirakṣati ॥1-199-17॥
[अयम् (ayam) - this; सः (saḥ) - he; पुरुषव्याघ्रः (puruṣavyāghraḥ) - tiger among men; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; आयाति (āyāti) - comes; धर्मवित् (dharmavit) - knower of dharma; यः (yaḥ) - who; नः (naḥ) - our; स्वान् (svān) - his own; इव (iva) - like; दायादान् (dāyādān) - heirs; धर्मेण (dharmeṇa) - by righteousness; परिरक्षति (parirakṣati) - protects;]
(This he tiger among men again comes, knower of dharma. Who our like his own heirs by righteousness protects.)

अद्य पाण्डुर्महाराजो वनादिव वनप्रियः। आगतः प्रियमस्माकं चिकीर्षुर्नात्र संशयः ॥१-१९९-१८॥
adya pāṇḍurmahārājo vanādiva vanapriyaḥ। āgataḥ priyamasmākaṃ cikīrṣurnātra saṃśayaḥ ॥1-199-18॥

What is it that has not been done today for the supreme good of all of us, since our heroic husbands, the sons of Kuntī, have returned again?
यदि दत्तं यदि हुतं विद्यते यदि नस्तपः। तेन तिष्ठन्तु नगरे पाण्डवाः शरदां शतम् ॥१-१९९-२०॥
yadi dattaṃ yadi hutaṃ vidyate yadi nas tapaḥ। tena tiṣṭhantu nagare pāṇḍavāḥ śaradāṃ śatam ॥1-199-20॥
