जित्वा तु पृथिवीं दैत्यौ निःसपत्नौ गतव्यथौ । कृत्वा त्रैलोक्यमव्यग्रं कृतकृत्यौ बभूवतुः ॥१-२०४-१॥
jitvā tu pṛthivīṃ daityau niḥsapatnau gatavyathau । kṛtvā trailokyamavyagraṃ kṛtakṛtyau babhūvatuḥ ॥1-204-1॥

(Having conquered the earth, the two Daityas, without rivals, free from distress, having made the three worlds unperturbed, having accomplished their purpose, became (thus).)

[देव (deva) - god; गन्धर्व (gandharva) - gandharva; यक्षाणां (yakṣāṇām) - of yakṣas; नाग (nāga) - nāga; पार्थिव (pārthiva) - of kings; रक्षसाम् (rakṣasām) - of rākṣasas; आदाय (ādāya) - having taken; सर्व (sarva) - all; रत्नानि (ratnāni) - jewels; परां (parāṃ) - supreme; तुष्टिम् (tuṣṭim) - satisfaction; उपागतौ (upāgatau) - attained;]
(Having taken all the jewels of the gods, gandharvas, yakṣas, nāgas, kings, and rākṣasas, (they) attained supreme satisfaction.)
They attained supreme satisfaction after taking all the jewels belonging to the gods, gandharvas, yakṣas, nāgas, kings, and rākṣasas.
यदा न प्रतिषेद्धारस्तयोः सन्तीह केचन । निरुद्योगौ तदा भूत्वा विजह्रातेऽमराविव ॥१-२०४-३॥
yadā na pratiṣeddhāras tayoḥ santīha kecana । nirudyogau tadā bhūtvā vijahrāte'marāviva ॥1-204-3॥

(When there are not any restrainers of the two here, then, having become inactive, they enjoy like the immortals.)

स्त्रीभिर्माल्यैश्च गन्धैश्च भक्षैर्भोज्यैश्च पुष्कलैः । पानैश्च विविधैर्हृद्यैः परां प्रीतिमवापतुः ॥१-२०४-४॥
strībhir mālyaiś ca gandhaiś ca bhakṣair bhojyaiś ca puṣkalaiḥ | pānaiś ca vividhair hṛdyaiḥ parāṃ prītim avāpatuḥ ॥1-204-4॥
[स्त्रीभिः (strībhiḥ) - by women; माल्यैः (mālyaiḥ) - by garlands; च (ca) - and; गन्धैः (gandhaiḥ) - by fragrances; च (ca) - and; भक्षैः (bhakṣaiḥ) - by eatables; भोज्यैः (bhojyaiḥ) - by foods; च (ca) - and; पुष्कलैः (puṣkalaiḥ) - by abundance; पानैः (pānaiḥ) - by drinks; च (ca) - and; विविधैः (vividhaiḥ) - by various; हृद्यैः (hṛdyaiḥ) - by pleasing; पराम् (parām) - supreme; प्रीतिम् (prītim) - delight; अवापतुः (avāpatuḥ) - they attained;]
(By women, by garlands, and by fragrances, and by eatables, by foods, and by abundance, by drinks, and by various pleasing (things), they attained supreme delight.)
They attained supreme delight, being served by women, garlands, fragrances, abundant foods and drinks of various pleasing kinds.
अन्तःपुरे वनोद्याने पर्वतोपवनेषु च । यथेप्सितेषु देशेषु विजह्रातेऽमराविव ॥१-२०४-५॥
antaḥpure vanodyāne parvatopavaneṣu ca । yathepsiteṣu deśeṣu vijahrāte'marāviva ॥1-204-5॥
[अन्तःपुरे (antaḥpure) - in the inner apartments; वनोद्यानि (vanodyāne) - in the forest gardens; पर्वत-उपवनेषु (parvata-upavaneṣu) - in the mountain groves; च (ca) - and; यथा-इप्सितेषु (yathā-ipsiteṣu) - in the desired (places); देशेषु (deśeṣu) - in the regions; विजह्राते (vijahrāte) - they sported; अमरौ-इव (amarau-iva) - like the immortals (gods);]
(In the inner apartments, in the forest gardens, in the mountain groves and in the desired regions, they sported like the immortals.)
They enjoyed themselves in the inner apartments, forest gardens, mountain groves, and wherever they wished, just like the gods.
ततः कदाचिद्विन्ध्यस्य पृष्ठे समशिलातले । पुष्पिताग्रेषु शालेषु विहारमभिजग्मतुः ॥१-२०४-६॥
tataḥ kadācid vindhyasya pṛṣṭhe samaśilātale । puṣpitāgreṣu śāleṣu vihāram abhijagmatuḥ ॥1-204-6॥

(In the divine, in all desires, having been brought together, there, those two, on excellent seats, delighted, together with, with women, sat down.)

ततो वादित्रनृत्ताभ्यामुपातिष्ठन्त तौ स्त्रियः । गीतैश्च स्तुतिसंयुक्तैः प्रीत्यर्थमुपजग्मिरे ॥१-२०४-८॥
tato vāditranṛttābhyām upātiṣṭhanta tau striyaḥ । gītaiś ca stutisaṃyuktaiḥ prītyartham upajagmire ॥1-204-8॥

ततस्तिलोत्तमा तत्र वने पुष्पाणि चिन्वती । वेषमाक्षिप्तमाधाय रक्तेनैकेन वाससा ॥१-२०४-९॥
tatas tilottamā tatra vane puṣpāṇi cinvatī । veṣam ākṣiptam ādhāya raktenaikena vāsasā ॥1-204-9॥

नदीतीरेषु जातान्सा कर्णिकारान्विचिन्वती । शनैर्जगाम तं देशं यत्रास्तां तौ महासुरौ ॥१-२०४-१०॥
nadītīreṣu jātānsā karṇikārān vicinvati | śanair jagāma taṃ deśaṃ yatrāstāṃ tau mahāsurau ||1-204-10||
[नदीतीरेषु (nadītīreṣu) - on river banks; जातान् (jātān) - grown; सा (sā) - she; कर्णिकारान् (karṇikārān) - karṇikāra trees; विचिन्वती (vicinvati) - searching; शनैः (śanaiḥ) - slowly; जगाम (jagāma) - went; तं (taṃ) - that; देशं (deśaṃ) - place; यत्र (yatra) - where; आस्तां (āstāṃ) - were; तौ (tau) - those two; महासुरौ (mahāsurau) - great asuras;]
(On the river banks, searching for the karṇikāra trees that had grown, she slowly went to that place where those two great asuras were.)

तौ तु पीत्वा वरं पानं मदरक्तान्तलोचनौ । दृष्ट्वैव तां वरारोहां व्यथितौ सम्बभूवतुः ॥१-२०४-११॥
tau tu pītvā varaṃ pānaṃ madaraktāntalocanau । dṛṣṭvaiva tāṃ varārohāṃ vyathitau sambabhūvatuḥ ॥1-204-11॥
[तौ (tau) - those two; तु (tu) - but; पीत्वा (pītvā) - having drunk; वरं (varaṃ) - excellent; पानं (pānaṃ) - liquor; मदरक्तान्तलोचनौ (madaraktāntalocanau) - with eyes reddened by intoxication; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; एव (eva) - just; तां (tāṃ) - her; वरारोहां (varārohāṃ) - of excellent hips; व्यथितौ (vyathitau) - disturbed; सम्बभूवतुः (sambabhūvatuḥ) - became;]
(Those two but having drunk excellent liquor, with eyes reddened by intoxication, having just seen her of excellent hips, became disturbed.)

तावुत्पत्यासनं हित्वा जग्मतुर्यत्र सा स्थिता । उभौ च कामसंमत्तावुभौ प्रार्थयतश्च ताम् ॥१-२०४-१२॥
tāvutpatyāsanaṃ hitvā jagmatur yatra sā sthitā । ubhau ca kāmasammattāv ubhau prārthayataś ca tām ॥1-204-12॥

(Those two, having risen from their seat, went where she was standing. Both, intoxicated with desire, both were desiring her.)

दक्षिणे तां करे सुभ्रूं सुन्दो जग्राह पाणिना । उपसुन्दोऽपि जग्राह वामे पाणौ तिलोत्तमाम् ॥१-२०४-१३॥

(On the right side, her hand, the beautiful-browed, Sunda seized with (his) hand. Upasunda also seized on the left hand Tilottama.)

वरप्रदानमत्तौ तावौरसेन बलेन च । धनरत्नमदाभ्यां च सुरापानमदेन च ॥१-२०४-१४॥
varapradānamattau tāv aur asena balena ca । dhanaratnamadābhyāṃ ca surāpānamadena ca ॥1-204-14॥

सर्वैरेतैर्मदैर्मत्तावन्योन्यं भ्रुकुटीकृतौ । मदकामसमाविष्टौ परस्परमथोचतुः ॥१-२०४-१५॥
sarvair etair madair mattau anyonyaṃ bhrukuṭīkṛtau । madakāmasamāviṣṭau parasparam atho catuḥ ॥1-204-15॥

(My wife is your elder, thus Sunda addressed (him). My wife is your bride, thus Upasunda addressed (him).)
Sunda said, "My wife is your elder." Upasunda said, "My wife is your bride."
नैषा तव ममैषेति तत्र तौ मन्युराविशत् । तस्या हेतोर्गदे भीमे तावुभावप्यगृह्णताम् ॥१-२०४-१७॥
naiṣā tava mamaite ti tatra tau manyur āviśat । tasyā hetor gade bhīme tāv ubhāv apy agṛhṇatām ॥1-204-17॥

(Those two, having seized the terrible maces, deluded by her desire, (thinking) 'I first, I first,' thus struck each other.)

(Those two terrible ones, struck by maces, fell on the surface of the earth; their limbs smeared with blood, the two looked like suns fallen from the sky.)

ततस्ता विद्रुता नार्यः स च दैत्यगणस्तदा । पातालमगमत्सर्वो विषादभयकम्पितः ॥१-२०४-२०॥

(Then those women fled, and he and the group of Daityas then all went to Pātāla, trembling with distress and fear.)

(Then the grandsire, there, with the gods and great sages, of pure soul, came, desiring to honor Tilottama.)

वरेण छन्दिता सा तु ब्रह्मणा प्रीतिमेव ह । वरयामास तत्रैनां प्रीतः प्राह पितामहः ॥१-२०४-२२॥
vareṇa chanditā sā tu brahmaṇā prītimeva ha । varayāmāsa tatraināṃ prītaḥ prāha pitāmahaḥ ॥1-204-22॥

(O radiant one, you will move about the worlds along the solar paths; and by brilliance, no one will make you, who is well-seen, (subject to harm).)
O radiant lady, you will traverse the worlds along the paths of the sun; and by your brilliance, no one will be able to harm you, who is clearly visible.
एवं तस्यै वरं दत्त्वा सर्वलोकपितामहः । इन्द्रे त्रैलोक्यमाधाय ब्रह्मलोकं गतः प्रभुः ॥१-२०४-२४॥
evaṃ tasyai varaṃ dattvā sarvalokapitāmahaḥ । indre trailokyamādhāya brahmalokaṃ gataḥ prabhuḥ ॥1-204-24॥

(Thus, having given the boon to her, the grandsire of all worlds, having placed the three worlds in Indra, went to Brahma's world, the lord.)

एवं तौ सहितौ भूत्वा सर्वार्थेष्वेकनिश्चयौ । तिलोत्तमार्थे सङ्क्रुद्धावन्योन्यमभिजघ्नतुः ॥१-२०४-२५॥

(Thus, those two, having become together, of one resolve in all purposes, for the sake of Tilottamā, greatly enraged, struck each other.)

तस्माद्ब्रवीमि वः स्नेहात्सर्वान्भरतसत्तमान् । यथा वो नात्र भेदः स्यात्सर्वेषां द्रौपदीकृते ॥ तथा कुरुत भद्रं वो मम चेत्प्रियमिच्छथ ॥१-२०४-२६॥
tasmād bravīmi vaḥ snehāt sarvān bharatasattamān । yathā vo nātra bhedaḥ syāt sarveṣāṃ draupadīkṛte ॥ tathā kuruta bhadraṃ vo mama cet priyam icchatha ॥1-204-26॥

(Therefore I say to you all out of affection, O best of the Bharatas, so that there may not be division here among you all for Draupadī. Thus do what is welfare for you, if you desire my dear (wish).)
Therefore, out of affection, I say to all of you, O best of the Bharatas, that there should be no division among you regarding Draupadī. So act in such a way that is for your welfare, if you wish to please me.

evam-uktā mahātmānaḥ nāradena maharṣiṇā । samayaṃ cakrire rājan te'nyonyena samāgatāḥ ॥ samakṣaṃ tasya devarṣeḥ nāradasya amitaujasaḥ ॥1-204-27॥

(Thus addressed, the great-souled ones by Nārada, the great sage, made an agreement, O king; they assembled with each other in the presence of that divine sage Nārada of immeasurable energy.)

द्रौपद्या नः सहासीनमन्योऽन्यं योऽभिदर्शयेत् । स नो द्वादश वर्षाणि ब्रह्मचारी वने वसेत् ॥१-२०४-२८॥
draupadyā naḥ sahāsīnam anyo'nyam yo'bhidarśayet । sa no dvādaśa varṣāṇi brahmacārī vane vaset ॥1-204-28॥

(Whoever among us, sitting with Draupadī, should show another to another, he should dwell as a celibate in the forest for twelve years.)
If any one of us, while sitting with Draupadī, reveals another to another, he must live as a celibate in the forest for twelve years.
कृते तु समये तस्मिन्पाण्डवैर्धर्मचारिभिः । नारदोऽप्यगमत्प्रीत इष्टं देशं महामुनिः ॥१-२०४-२९॥
kṛte tu samaye tasmin pāṇḍavaiḥ dharmacāribhiḥ । nārado'pyagamat prīta iṣṭaṃ deśaṃ mahāmuniḥ ॥1-204-29॥
[कृते (kṛte) - having been done; तु (tu) - but; समये (samaye) - at the time; तस्मिन् (tasmin) - then; पाण्डवैः (pāṇḍavaiḥ) - by the Pāṇḍavas; धर्मचारिभिः (dharmacāribhiḥ) - by those who practice dharma; नारदः (nāradaḥ) - Nārada; अपि (api) - also; अगमत् (agamat) - went; प्रीतः (prītaḥ) - pleased; इष्टं (iṣṭam) - desired; देशं (deśam) - place; महामुनिः (mahāmuniḥ) - the great sage;]
(But when it was done at that time by the Pāṇḍavas who practice dharma, Nārada also, the great sage, pleased, went to the desired place.)
When the Pāṇḍavas, who were followers of dharma, had completed their task, the great sage Nārada, being pleased, also went to his desired place.
एवं तैः समयः पूर्वं कृतो नरदचोदितैः । न चाभिद्यन्त ते सार्वे तदान्योन्येन भारत ॥१-२०४-३०॥
evaṃ taiḥ samayaḥ pūrvaṃ kṛto naradacoditaiḥ । na cābhidyanta te sārve tadānyonyena bhārata ॥1-204-30॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; तैः (taiḥ) - by them; समयः (samayaḥ) - agreement; पूर्वं (pūrvam) - before; कृतः (kṛtaḥ) - made; नरदचोदितैः (naradacoditaiḥ) - prompted by Nārada; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; अभिद्यन्त (abhidyanta) - attacked; ते (te) - they; सार्वे (sārve) - all; तदा (tadā) - then; अन्योन्येन (anyonyena) - with each other; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata;]
(Thus, by them, the agreement was previously made, prompted by Nārada. And they all did not attack each other then, O Bhārata.)
Thus, an agreement was previously made by them at the prompting of Nārada, and at that time, O Bhārata, they all did not attack one another.
