Pancharatra: Arjuna gets two inexhaustible quivers, gandiva, and a chariot. Krishna gets is disk and the Koumodaki club.
वैशम्पायन उवाच॥

एवमुक्तस्तु भगवान्धूमकेतुर्हुताशनः। चिन्तयामास वरुणं लोकपालं दिदृक्षया ॥ आदित्यमुदके देवं निवसन्तं जलेश्वरम् ॥१-२१६-१॥
evam-uktas-tu bhagavān dhūmaketur hutāśanaḥ। cintayām āsa varuṇam lokapālam didṛkṣayā ॥ ādityam udake devaṃ nivasantaṃ jaleśvaram ॥1-216-1॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - spoken; तु (tu) - but; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the venerable; धूमकेतुः (dhūmaketuḥ) - Dhūmaketu (another name for Agni); हुताशनः (hutāśanaḥ) - the fire-god; चिन्तयाम् (cintayām) - began to think; आस (āsa) - he; वरुणम् (varuṇam) - Varuṇa; लोकपालम् (lokapālam) - the guardian of the world; दिदृक्षया (didṛkṣayā) - with the desire to see; आदित्यम् (ādityam) - the sun; उदके (udake) - in the water; देवम् (devam) - the god; निवसन्तम् (nivasantam) - residing; जलेश्वरम् (jaleśvaram) - the lord of the waters;]
(Thus spoken, but the venerable Dhūmaketu, the fire-god, began to think of Varuṇa, the guardian of the world, with the desire to see him. The sun-god, residing in the water, the lord of the waters.)
After these words, the venerable Dhūmaketu (Agni), the fire-god, began to contemplate Varuṇa, the guardian of the world, wishing to see him. The sun-god, dwelling in the water, is the lord of the waters.
स च तच्चिन्तितं ज्ञात्वा दर्शयामास पावकम्। तमब्रवीद्धूमकेतुः प्रतिपूज्य जलेश्वरम् ॥ चतुर्थं लोकपालानां रक्षितारं महेश्वरम् ॥१-२१६-२॥

(He and having known that thought showed the fire. To him Dhūmaketu, having duly honored the lord of waters, said: The fourth of the guardians of the world, the protector, Maheshvara (Shiva).)

सोमेन राज्ञा यद्दत्तं धनुश्चैवेषुधी च ते। तत्प्रयच्छोभयं शीघ्रं रथं च कपिलक्षणम् ॥१-२१६-३॥

(By Soma, by the king, which was given, the bow and indeed the quivers and to you; that give both quickly, and the chariot with tawny marks.)
Quickly give both the bow and quivers that were given by King Soma to you, and also the chariot with tawny marks.
कार्यं हि सुमहत्पार्थो गाण्डीवेन करिष्यति। चक्रेण वासुदेवश्च तन्मदर्थे प्रदीयताम् ॥ ददानीत्येव वरुणः पावकं प्रत्यभाषत ॥१-२१६-४॥
kāryaṃ hi sumahatpārtho gāṇḍīvena kariṣyati। cakreṇa vāsudevaś ca tanmadarthe pradīyatām ॥ dadānīty eva varuṇaḥ pāvakaṃ pratyabhāṣata ॥1-216-4॥
[कार्यं (kāryam) - action; हि (hi) - indeed; सुमहत् (sumahat) - very great; पार्थः (pārthaḥ) - Pārtha (Arjuna); गाण्डीवेन (gāṇḍīvena) - with the Gāṇḍīva (bow); करिष्यति (kariṣyati) - will do; चक्रेण (cakreṇa) - with the discus; वासुदेवः (vāsudevaḥ) - Vāsudeva (Kṛṣṇa); च (ca) - and; तत् (tat) - that; मदर्थे (madarthe) - for my sake; प्रदीयताम् (pradīyatām) - let it be given; ददानी (dadāni) - I shall give; इति (iti) - thus; एव (eva) - indeed; वरुणः (varuṇaḥ) - Varuṇa; पावकं (pāvakam) - fire; प्रत्यभाषत (pratyabhāṣata) - replied;]
(Action indeed very great Pārtha (Arjuna) with the Gāṇḍīva will do. With the discus Vāsudeva (Kṛṣṇa) and that for my sake let it be given. "I shall give," thus indeed Varuṇa fire replied.)
Arjuna will accomplish a very great deed with the Gāṇḍīva bow. Let the discus also be given to Vāsudeva (Kṛṣṇa) for my sake. "I shall give it," thus Varuṇa replied regarding the fire.
ततोऽद्भुतं महावीर्यं यशःकीर्तिविवर्धनम्। सर्वशस्त्रैरनाधृष्यं सर्वशस्त्रप्रमाथि च ॥ सर्वायुधमहामात्रं परसेनाप्रधर्षणम् ॥१-२१६-५॥
tato'dbhutaṃ mahāvīryaṃ yaśaḥkīrtivivardhanam। sarvaśastrairanādhṛṣyaṃ sarvaśastrapramāthi ca ॥ sarvāyudhamahāmātraṃ parasenāpradharṣaṇam ॥1-216-5॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; अद्भुतम् (adbhutam) - wonderful; महावीर्यम् (mahāvīryam) - of great strength; यशःकीर्तिविवर्धनम् (yaśaḥkīrtivivardhanam) - increasing fame and glory; सर्वशस्त्रैः (sarvaśastraiḥ) - by all weapons; अनाधृष्यम् (anādhṛṣyam) - unassailable; सर्वशस्त्रप्रमाथि (sarvaśastrapramāthi) - destroyer of all weapons; च (ca) - and; सर्वायुधमहामात्रम् (sarvāyudhamahāmātram) - having great measure of all weapons; परसेनाप्रधर्षणम् (parasenāpradharṣaṇam) - overpowering enemy armies;]
(Then (there was) a wonderful (being) of great strength, increasing fame and glory, unassailable by all weapons, destroyer of all weapons and having great measure of all weapons, overpowering enemy armies.)
Then appeared a wondrous being of immense strength, who increased fame and glory, was unassailable by all weapons, destroyed all weapons, possessed the might of all weapons, and could overpower enemy armies.
एकं शतसहस्रेण संमितं राष्ट्रवर्धनम्। चित्रमुच्चावचैर्वर्णैः शोभितं श्लक्ष्णमव्रणम् ॥१-२१६-६॥
ekaṃ śatasahasreṇa saṃmitaṃ rāṣṭravardhanam। citramuccāvacairvarṇaiḥ śobhitaṃ ślakṣṇamavraṇam ॥1-216-6॥
[एकम् (ekam) - one; शतसहस्रेण (śatasahasreṇa) - by a hundred thousand; संमितम् (saṃmitam) - measured; राष्ट्रवर्धनम् (rāṣṭravardhanam) - nation-increasing; चित्रम् (citram) - variegated; उच्चावचैः (uccāvacaiḥ) - with high and low; वर्णैः (varṇaiḥ) - by colors; शोभितम् (śobhitam) - adorned; श्लक्ष्णम् (ślakṣṇam) - smooth; अव्रणम् (avraṇam) - without blemish;]
(One, measured by a hundred thousand, nation-increasing; variegated, adorned with high and low colors, smooth, without blemish.)

देवदानवगन्धर्वैः पूजितं शाश्वतीः समाः। प्रादाद्वै धनुरत्नं तदक्षय्यौ च महेषुधी ॥१-२१६-७॥
devadānavagandharvaiḥ pūjitaṃ śāśvatīḥ samāḥ। prādād vai dhanuratnaṃ tad akṣayyau ca maheṣudhī ॥1-216-7॥
[देव (deva) - god; दानव (dānava) - demon; गन्धर्वैः (gandharvaiḥ) - by gandharvas; पूजितं (pūjitam) - worshipped; शाश्वतीः (śāśvatīḥ) - eternal; समाः (samāḥ) - years; प्रादात् (prādāt) - gave; वै (vai) - indeed; धनुरत्नं (dhanuratnam) - bow-jewel; तत् (tat) - that; अक्षय्यौ (akṣayyau) - inexhaustible (dual); च (ca) - and; महेषुधी (maheṣudhī) - great arrows (dual);]
(By gods, demons, and gandharvas worshipped for eternal years, indeed he gave that bow-jewel and the two inexhaustible great arrows.)

रथं च दिव्याश्वयुजं कपिप्रवरकेतनम्। उपेतं राजतैरश्वैर्गान्धर्वैर्हेममालिभिः ॥ पाण्डुराभ्रप्रतीकाशैर्मनोवायुसमैर्जवे ॥१-२१६-८॥
rathaṃ ca divyāśvayujaṃ kapipravaraketanam। upetaṃ rājatairaśvairgāndharvairhemamālibhiḥ ॥ pāṇḍurābhrapratīkāśairmanovāyusamairjave ॥1-216-8॥
[रथं (ratham) - chariot; च (ca) - and; दिव्य (divya) - divine; अश्वयुजं (aśvayujam) - yoked with horses; कपिप्रवर (kapipravara) - best of monkeys; केतनम् (ketanam) - banner; उपेतं (upetam) - endowed with; राजतैः (rājataiḥ) - silver; अश्वैः (aśvaiḥ) - horses; गान्धर्वैः (gāndharvaiḥ) - celestial; हेममालिभिः (hemamālibhiḥ) - with golden garlands; पाण्डुर (pāṇḍura) - white; आभ्र (ābhra) - cloud; प्रतीकाशैः (pratīkāśaiḥ) - resembling; मनः (manaḥ) - mind; वायु (vāyu) - wind; समैः (samaiḥ) - equal; जवे (jave) - in speed;]
(And a chariot yoked with divine horses, bearing the banner of the best of monkeys, endowed with silver horses, celestial, adorned with golden garlands, resembling white clouds, equal to the mind and wind in speed.)

ससर्ज यत्स्वतपसा भौवनो भुवनप्रभुः। प्रजापतिरनिर्देश्यं यस्य रूपं रवेरिव ॥१-२१६-१०॥
sasarja yat svatapasa bhaavano bhuvanaprabhuḥ। prajāpatiḥ anirdeśyam yasya rūpam raver iva ॥1-216-10॥

(He created, by his own austerity, the creator, the lord of the worlds, Prajapati, whose form is indescribable, like that of the sun.)

(Whom indeed Soma, having mounted, the Lord conquered the Dānavas; resembling a mountain-cloud, shining like (the sun), and with splendour.)

(But in that (place), the divine monkey, having the characteristics of a lion and tiger, as if roaring, standing there, situated, shone on the head.)

(Armed, armored, sword-bearing, wearing a bound lizard-finger ring, Pārtha (Arjuna) ascended the chariot, like a virtuous one ascends a celestial car.)

(Having bowed to fire, then that powerful one also, having assumed strength, took (his) bow and fitted (it) with the bowstring.)

[मौर्व्यां (maurvyām) - in the bow made of Murva grass; तु (tu) - but; युज्यमानायां (yujyamānāyām) - being drawn; बलिना (balinā) - by the strong; पाण्डवेन (pāṇḍavena) - by the Pāṇḍava; ह (ha) - indeed; ये (ye) - those who; अशृण्वन् (aśṛṇvan) - heard; कूजितं (kūjitam) - the twang; तत्र (tatra) - there; तेषां (teṣām) - of them; वै (vai) - indeed; व्यथितं (vyathitam) - disturbed; मनः (manaḥ) - mind;]
(But when the bow made of Murva grass was being drawn by the strong Pāṇḍava, those who heard the twang there, indeed, their minds were disturbed.)
But as the strong Pāṇḍava drew the Murva bow, all those who heard its twang there had their minds truly disturbed.
लब्ध्वा रथं धनुश्चैव तथाक्षय्यौ महेषुधी। बभूव कल्यः कौन्तेयः प्रहृष्टः साह्यकर्मणि ॥१-२१६-२०॥
labdhvā rathaṃ dhanuścaiva tathākṣayyau maheṣudhī। babhūva kalyaḥ kaunteyaḥ prahṛṣṭaḥ sāhyakarmaṇi ॥1-216-20॥
[लब्ध्वा (labdhvā) - having obtained; रथम् (ratham) - chariot; धनुः (dhanuḥ) - bow; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; तथा (tathā) - also; अक्षय्यौ (akṣayyau) - inexhaustible (dual); महेषुधी (maheṣudhī) - great arrows (dual); बभूव (babhūva) - became; कल्यः (kalyaḥ) - cheerful; कौन्तेयः (kaunteyaḥ) - son of Kunti; प्रहृष्टः (prahṛṣṭaḥ) - delighted; साह्यकर्मणि (sāhyakarmaṇi) - in the act of assistance;]
(Having obtained the chariot and the bow, and also the two inexhaustible great arrows, the son of Kunti became cheerful and delighted in the act of assistance.)
Having received the chariot, bow, and the two inexhaustible great arrows, the son of Kunti became cheerful and delighted in assisting.
वज्रनाभं ततश्चक्रं ददौ कृष्णाय पावकः। आग्नेयमस्त्रं दयितं स च कल्योऽभवत्तदा ॥१-२१६-२१॥
vajranābhaṃ tataś cakraṃ dadau kṛṣṇāya pāvakaḥ। āgneyam astraṃ dayitaṃ sa ca kaly o'bhavat tadā ॥1-216-21॥
[वज्रनाभम् (vajranābham) - having a thunderbolt as its navel; (vajra - thunderbolt; nābha - navel; -m: accusative singular); ततः (tataḥ) - then; चक्रम् (cakram) - discus; ददौ (dadau) - gave; कृष्णाय (kṛṣṇāya) - to Kṛṣṇa; पावकः (pāvakaḥ) - Agni; (the Fire god); आग्नेयम् (āgneyam) - belonging to Agni; अस्त्रम् (astram) - weapon; दयितम् (dayitam) - beloved; सः (saḥ) - he; (referring to the weapon); च (ca) - and; कल्यः (kalyaḥ) - auspicious; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; तदा (tadā) - then;]
(Then Agni gave to Kṛṣṇa the discus having a thunderbolt as its navel; the Agneya weapon, beloved, he (the weapon) also then became auspicious.)
Then Agni gave to Kṛṣṇa the discus with a thunderbolt at its center; the beloved Agneya weapon also became auspicious at that time.
अब्रवीत्पावकश्चैनमेतेन मधुसूदन। अमानुषानपि रणे विजेष्यसि न संशयः ॥१-२१६-२२॥
abravītpāvakaścainametena madhusūdana। amānuṣānapi raṇe vijeṣyasi na saṃśayaḥ ॥1-216-22॥

(Agni said, "O Madhusudana, by this, you will conquer even non-human beings in battle, there is no doubt.")
Agni said to Madhusudana, "By this, you will surely conquer even non-human beings in battle; there is no doubt about it."
अनेन त्वं मनुष्याणां देवानामपि चाहवे। रक्षःपिशाचदैत्यानां नागानां चाधिकः सदा ॥ भविष्यसि न संदेहः प्रवरारिनिबर्हणे ॥१-२१६-२३॥
anena tvaṃ manuṣyāṇāṃ devānām api ca ahave। rakṣaḥ-piśāca-daityānāṃ nāgānāṃ ca adhikaḥ sadā॥ bhaviṣyasi na saṃdehaḥ pravarāri-nibarhaṇe॥1-216-23॥

(By this, you, in battle, will always be superior to men, gods, rākṣasas, piśācas, daityas, and nāgas; there is no doubt you will be excellent in destroying foremost enemies.)
By this, you will always surpass men, gods, rākṣasas, piśācas, daityas, and nāgas in battle; there is no doubt that you will be foremost in destroying the greatest enemies.
क्षिप्तं क्षिप्तं रणे चैतत्त्वया माधव शत्रुषु। हत्वाप्रतिहतं सङ्ख्ये पाणिमेष्यति ते पुनः ॥१-२१६-२४॥
kṣiptaṃ kṣiptaṃ raṇe caitattvayā mādhava śatruṣu। hatvāpratihataṃ saṅkhye pāṇimeṣyati te punaḥ ॥1-216-24॥
[क्षिप्तं (kṣiptam) - thrown; क्षिप्तं (kṣiptam) - thrown; रणे (raṇe) - in battle; च (ca) - and; एतत् (etat) - this; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; माधव (mādhava) - O Mādhava; शत्रुषु (śatruṣu) - at the enemies; हत्वा (hatvā) - having killed; अप्रतिहतं (apratihatam) - unobstructed; सङ्ख्ये (saṅkhye) - in battle; पाणिम् (pāṇim) - hand; एष्यति (eṣyati) - will return; ते (te) - to you; पुनः (punaḥ) - again;]
(Thrown, thrown in battle, and this by you, O Mādhava, at the enemies; having killed, unobstructed in battle, the hand will return to you again.)
O Mādhava, whatever you throw in battle at the enemies, your hand, having killed (them), will return to you again unobstructed.
वरुणश्च ददौ तस्मै गदामशनिनिःस्वनाम्। दैत्यान्तकरणीं घोरां नाम्ना कौमोदकीं हरेः ॥१-२१६-२५॥
varuṇaś ca dadau tasmai gadām aśani-niḥsvanām। daityānta-karaṇīṃ ghorāṃ nāmnā kaumudakīṃ hareḥ ॥1-216-25॥
[वरुणः (varuṇaḥ) - Varuṇa; (the deity Varuṇa); च (ca) - and; ददौ (dadau) - gave; तस्मै (tasmai) - to him; गदाम् (gadām) - mace; अशनिनिःस्वनाम् (aśani-niḥsvanām) - having the sound of thunderbolt; दैत्यान्तकरणीं (daitya-anta-karaṇīm) - destroyer of the end of Daityas (demons); घोराम् (ghorām) - terrible; नाम्ना (nāmnā) - by name; कौमोदकीम् (kaumudakīm) - Kaumudakī; हरेः (hareḥ) - of Hari (Viṣṇu);]
(Varuṇa and gave to him a mace having the sound of thunderbolt, destroyer of the end of Daityas, terrible, by name Kaumudakī, of Hari.)
Varuṇa gave to him (Viṣṇu) the terrible mace named Kaumudakī, which sounded like a thunderbolt and was the destroyer of the Daityas (demons).
ततः पावकमब्रूतां प्रहृष्टौ कृष्णपाण्डवौ। कृतास्त्रौ शस्त्रसम्पन्नौ रथिनौ ध्वजिनावपि ॥१-२१६-२६॥
tataḥ pāvakam abrūtāṃ prahṛṣṭau kṛṣṇapāṇḍavau। kṛtāstrau śastrasampannau rathinau dhvajināv api ॥1-216-26॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; पावकम् (pāvakam) - Agni (fire); अब्रूताम् (abrūtām) - they spoke; प्रहृष्टौ (prahṛṣṭau) - joyful; कृष्णपाण्डवौ (kṛṣṇapāṇḍavau) - Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna; कृतास्त्रौ (kṛtāstrau) - proficient in weapons; शस्त्रसम्पन्नौ (śastrasampannau) - endowed with arms; रथिनौ (rathinau) - chariot-warriors; ध्वजिनौ (dhvajinau) - bannered (having banners); अपि (api) - also;]
(Then to Agni they spoke, the joyful Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna, proficient in weapons, endowed with arms, chariot-warriors, also bannered.)
Then the joyful Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna, skilled in weapons and arms, chariot-warriors with banners, spoke to Agni.
कल्यौ स्वो भगवन्योद्धुमपि सर्वैः सुरासुरैः। किं पुनर्वज्रिणैकेन पन्नगार्थे युयुत्सुना ॥१-२१६-२७॥
kalyau svo bhagavanyoddhumapi sarvaiḥ surāsuraiḥ। kiṃ punarvajriṇaikena pannagārthe yuyutsunā ॥1-216-27॥
[कल्यौ (kalyau) - in former times; previously; स्वः (svaḥ) - heaven; the celestial world; भगवन् (bhagavan) - O Lord; revered one; योद्धुम् (yoddhum) - to fight; to battle; अपि (api) - even; also; सर्वैः (sarvaiḥ) - by all; by everyone; सुरासुरैः (surāsuraiḥ) - by gods and asuras; by divine and demonic beings; किं (kiṃ) - what; why; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; moreover; वज्रिणा (vajriṇā) - by the wielder of the thunderbolt (Indra); एकेन (ekena) - by one; by a single; पन्नगार्थे (pannagārthe) - for the sake of the serpent; in the matter of the serpent; युयुत्सुना (yuyutsunā) - by one desirous of fighting;]
(In former times, O Lord, even to fight by all gods and asuras in heaven; what then (to speak of) by one Indra alone, desirous of fighting, for the sake of the serpent?)
O Lord, in the past, even all the gods and asuras together in heaven could not fight (successfully); so what to say of Indra alone, who is desirous of fighting for the sake of the serpent?
अर्जुन उवाच॥

चक्रमस्त्रं च वार्ष्णेयो विसृजन्युधि वीर्यवान्। त्रिषु लोकेषु तन्नास्ति यन्न जीयाज्जनार्दनः ॥१-२१६-२८॥
cakram astraṃ ca vārṣṇeyo visṛjan yudhi vīryavān। triṣu lokeṣu tan nāsti yan na jīyāj janārdanaḥ॥1-216-28॥
[चक्रम् (cakram) - discus; (wheel-shaped weapon); अस्त्रं (astraṃ) - missile; (weapon); च (ca) - and; वार्ष्णेयः (vārṣṇeyaḥ) - descendant of Vṛṣṇi; (epithet of Kṛṣṇa); विसृजन् (visṛjan) - releasing; (sending forth); युधि (yudhi) - in battle; वीर्यवान् (vīryavān) - powerful; (possessing heroism); त्रिषु (triṣu) - in the three; लोकेषु (lokeṣu) - worlds; तत् (tat) - that; नास्ति (nāsti) - does not exist; यत् (yat) - which; न (na) - not; जीयात् (jīyāt) - could conquer; जनार्दनः (janārdanaḥ) - Janārdana; (Kṛṣṇa);]
(The powerful descendant of Vṛṣṇi, Janārdana, releasing the discus and missile in battle—there is nothing in the three worlds which could conquer him.)
Janārdana, the mighty descendant of Vṛṣṇi, wielding his discus and missile in battle, is invincible; there is nothing in the three worlds that could defeat him.
गाण्डीवं धनुरादाय तथाक्षय्यौ महेषुधी। अहमप्युत्सहे लोकान्विजेतुं युधि पावक ॥१-२१६-२९॥
gāṇḍīvaṃ dhanur ādāya tathākṣayyau maheṣudhī। aham apy utsahe lokān vijetuṃ yudhi pāvaka ॥1-216-29॥
[गाण्डीवं (gāṇḍīvam) - Gāṇḍīva (Arjuna's bow); धनुः (dhanuḥ) - bow; आदाय (ādāya) - having taken; तथा (tathā) - likewise; अक्षय्यौ (akṣayyau) - inexhaustible (dual); महेषुधी (maheṣudhī) - great arrows (dual); अहम् (aham) - I; अपि (api) - also; उत्सहे (utsahe) - am capable; लोकान् (lokān) - worlds; विजेतुम् (vijetum) - to conquer; युधि (yudhi) - in battle; पावक (pāvaka) - O Pāvaka (Agni);]
(Having taken the Gāṇḍīva bow and likewise the two inexhaustible great arrows, I also am capable to conquer the worlds in battle, O Pāvaka.)
O Pāvaka, having taken the Gāṇḍīva bow and the two inexhaustible great arrows, I too am capable of conquering the worlds in battle.
सर्वतः परिवार्यैनं दावेन महता प्रभो। कामं सम्प्रज्वलाद्यैव कल्यौ स्वः साह्यकर्मणि ॥१-२१६-३०॥
sarvataḥ parivāryainaṃ dāvena mahatā prabho। kāmaṃ samprajvalādyai'va kalyau svaḥ sāhyakarmaṇi ॥1-216-30॥
[सर्वतः (sarvataḥ) - from all sides; परिवार्य (parivārya) - having surrounded; एनम् (enam) - him; दावेन (dāvena) - with forest fire; महता (mahatā) - great; प्रभो (prabho) - O lord; कामं (kāmaṃ) - indeed; सम्प्रज्वलात् (samprajvalāt) - from blazing; एव (eva) - indeed; अद्य (adya) - today; एव (eva) - indeed; कल्यौ (kalyau) - let us go; स्वः (svaḥ) - to heaven; साह्यकर्मणि (sāhyakarmaṇi) - in the act of helping;]
(From all sides having surrounded him with great forest fire, O lord, indeed, from blazing indeed today indeed let us go to heaven in the act of helping.)
O lord, let us surround him from all sides with a great forest fire; indeed, if we are burned today, let us go to heaven in the act of helping.
वैशम्पायन उवाच॥
vaiśampāyana uvāca॥

evam-uktaḥ sa bhagavān dāśārheṇa arjunena ca। taijasaṃ rūpam āsthāya dāvaṃ dagdhuṃ pracakrame ॥1-216-31॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - addressed; स (sa) - he; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the venerable one; दाशार्हेण (dāśārheṇa) - by Dāśārha (Krishna); अर्जुनेन (arjunena) - by Arjuna; च (ca) - and; तैजसं (taijasaṃ) - fiery; रूपम् (rūpam) - form; आस्थाय (āsthāya) - assuming; दावम् (dāvam) - forest fire; दग्धुम् (dagdhuṃ) - to burn; प्रचक्रमे (pracakrame) - he began;]
(Thus addressed, he, the venerable one, by Dāśārha and by Arjuna and, assuming a fiery form, to burn the forest fire, he began.)

सर्वतः परिवार्याथ सप्तार्चिर्ज्वलनस्तदा। ददाह खाण्डवं क्रुद्धो युगान्तमिव दर्शयन् ॥१-२१६-३२॥
sarvataḥ parivāryātha saptārcir jvalanas tadā। dadāha khāṇḍavaṃ kruddho yugāntam iva darśayan ॥1-216-32॥
[सर्वतः (sarvataḥ) - from all sides; परिवार्य (parivārya) - having surrounded; अथ (atha) - then; सप्त-अर्चिः (sapta-arciḥ) - seven-flamed; ज्वलनः (jvalanaḥ) - the fire; तदा (tadā) - then; ददाह (dadāha) - burned; खाण्डवम् (khāṇḍavam) - Khāṇḍava (forest); क्रुद्धः (kruddhaḥ) - angry; युग-अन्तम्-इव (yuga-antam-iva) - like the end of an age; दर्शयन् (darśayan) - showing;]
(From all sides having surrounded, then the seven-flamed fire then burned Khāṇḍava, angry, like the end of an age showing.)
Then, having surrounded from all sides, the seven-flamed fire, in anger, burned Khāṇḍava, appearing like the end of an age.
परिगृह्य समाविष्टस्तद्वनं भरतर्षभ। मेघस्तनितनिर्घोषं सर्वभूतानि निर्दहन् ॥१-२१६-३३॥
parigṛhya samāviṣṭas tad vanaṃ bharatarṣabha। megha-stanita-nirghoṣaṃ sarvabhūtāni nirdahan ॥1-216-33॥

(Having seized and entered that forest, O bull among the Bharatas, (he was) burning all beings with a roaring sound like the thunder of clouds.)
O best of the Bharatas, having seized and entered that forest, he burned all beings with a roar like the thunder of clouds.
दह्यतस्तस्य विबभौ रूपं दावस्य भारत। मेरोरिव नगेन्द्रस्य काञ्चनस्य महाद्युतेः ॥१-२१६-३४॥
dahyatas tasya vibabhau rūpaṃ dāvasya bhārata। meror iva nagendrasya kāñcanasya mahādyuteḥ ॥1-216-34॥
[दह्यत: (dahyataḥ) - of the burning; तस्य (tasya) - of that; विबभौ (vibabhau) - shone; रूपं (rūpam) - form; दावस्य (dāvasya) - of the forest fire; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata; मेरोः (meroḥ) - of Meru; इव (iva) - like; नगेन्द्रस्य (nagendrasya) - of the lord of mountains; काञ्चनस्य (kāñcanasya) - of gold; महाद्युतेः (mahādyuteḥ) - of great brilliance;]
(Of the burning, of that, shone form, of the forest fire, O Bhārata. Of Meru, like, of the lord of mountains, of gold, of great brilliance.)
O Bhārata, the form of that burning forest fire shone like the golden, greatly brilliant Meru, the lord of mountains.
