tataḥ kumāraviṣaye śreṇimantam athājayat। kosalādhipatiṃ caiva bṛhadbalam ariṃdamaḥ ॥2-27-1॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; कुमारविषये (kumāraviṣaye) - in the territory of Kumāra; श्रेणिमन्तम् (śreṇimantam) - Śreṇimant; अथ (atha) - then; अजयत् (ajayat) - conquered; कोसलाधिपतिं (kosalādhipatim) - the lord of Kosala; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; बृहद्बलम् (bṛhadbalam) - Bṛhadbala; अरिंदमः (ariṃdamaḥ) - the subduer of enemies;]

अयोध्यायां तु धर्मज्ञं दीर्घप्रज्ञं महाबलम्। अजयत्पाण्डवश्रेष्ठो नातितीव्रेण कर्मणा ॥२-२७-२॥

(In Ayodhyā, but the knower of dharma, of long foresight, of great strength, the best among the Pāṇḍavas did not conquer by excessively intense action.)
But in Ayodhyā, the best of the Pāṇḍavas, who was a knower of dharma, far-sighted, and of great strength, did not win by excessively forceful action. (2-27-2)
ततो गोपालकच्छं च सोत्तमानपि चोत्तरान्। मल्लानामधिपं चैव पार्थिवं व्यजयत्प्रभुः ॥२-२७-३॥
tato gopālakacchaṃ ca sottamān api cottarān। mallānām adhipaṃ caiva pārthivaṃ vyajayat prabhuḥ ॥2-27-3॥

(Then the lord conquered Gopālakaccha and also the Uttamans and the northern ones, and indeed the lord of the Mallas and the king.)

ततो हिमवतः पार्श्वे समभ्येत्य जरद्गवम्। सर्वमल्पेन कालेन देशं चक्रे वशे बली ॥२-२७-४॥
tato himavataḥ pārśve samabhyetya jaradgavam। sarvam alpena kālena deśaṃ cakre vaśe balī ॥2-27-4॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; हिमवतः (himavataḥ) - of Himavat; पार्श्वे (pārśve) - at the side; समभ्येत्य (samabhyetya) - having approached; जरद्गवम् (jaradgavam) - Jaradgava (name); सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; अल्पेन (alpena) - with little; कालेन (kālena) - by time; देशम् (deśam) - the land; चक्रे (cakre) - made; वशे (vaśe) - under control; बली (balī) - the powerful one;]
(Then, having approached Jaradgava at the side of Himavat, the powerful one made all the land under control with little time.)
Then, having come near Jaradgava at the side of the Himalayas, the mighty one quickly brought the entire land under his control. (2-27-4)
एवं बहुविधान्देशान्विजित्य पुरुषर्षभः। उन्नाटमभितो जिग्ये कुक्षिमन्तं च पर्वतम् ॥ पाण्डवः सुमहावीर्यो बलेन बलिनां वरः ॥२-२७-५॥

(Thus, having conquered many kinds of regions, the bull among men overcame Unnata and on all sides Kukshimant mountain. The Pāṇḍava, of great might, by strength, (who is) the best of the strong.)

स काशिराजं समरे सुबन्धुमनिवर्तिनम्। वशे चक्रे महाबाहुर्भीमो भीमपराक्रमः ॥२-२७-६॥
sa kāśirājaṃ samare subandhumanivartinam। vaśe cakre mahābāhurbhīmo bhīmaparākramaḥ ॥2-27-6॥

(He Kāśi king in battle Subandhu not turning back under control made mighty-armed Bhīma of terrible prowess.)
The mighty-armed Bhīma, of terrible prowess, brought the Kāśi king Subandhu, who did not turn back in battle, under his control. (2-27-6)
ततः सुपार्श्वमभितस्तथा राजपतिं क्रथम्। युध्यमानं बलात्सङ्ख्ये विजिग्ये पाण्डवर्षभः ॥२-२७-७॥
tataḥ supārśvam abhitastathā rājapatiṃ kratham। yudhyamānaṃ balāt saṅkhye vijigye pāṇḍavarṣabhaḥ ॥2-27-7॥

(Then Supārśva, thus on all sides, the king Kratha, Kratha, fighting by force in battle, was conquered by the bull among the Pāṇḍavas.)

ततो मत्स्यान्महातेजा मलयांश्च महाबलान्। अनवद्यान्गयांश्चैव पशुभूमिं च सर्वशः ॥२-२७-८॥
tato matsyān mahātejā malayāṁś ca mahābalān | anavadyān gayāṁś caiva paśubhūmiṁ ca sarvaśaḥ ॥2-27-8॥

(Then (he), of great brilliance, (destroyed) the fishes, the Malaya people of great strength, the blameless Gaya people indeed, and the cattle land entirely.)
Then the mighty one destroyed the fishes, the powerful Malaya people, the blameless Gaya people, and the entire cattle land. (2-27-8)
निवृत्य च महाबाहुर्मदर्वीकं महीधरम्। सोपदेशं विनिर्जित्य प्रययावुत्तरामुखः ॥ वत्सभूमिं च कौन्तेयो विजिग्ये बलवान्बलात् ॥२-२७-९॥
nivṛtya ca mahābāhur madarvīkaṃ mahīdharam। sopadeśaṃ vinirjitya prayayāv uttarāmukhaḥ ॥ vatsabhūmiṃ ca kaunteyo vijigye balavān balāt ॥2-27-9॥
[निवृत्य (nivṛtya) - having withdrawn; च (ca) - and; महाबाहुः (mahābāhuḥ) - the mighty-armed; मदर्वीकम् (madarvīkam) - Madarvika; महीधरम् (mahīdharam) - the mountain; सोपदेशम् (sopadeśam) - with its region; विनिर्जित्य (vinirjitya) - having conquered; प्रययौ (prayayau) - he went; उत्तरामुखः (uttarāmukhaḥ) - facing north; वत्सभूमिम् (vatsabhūmim) - the land of Vatsa; च (ca) - and; कौन्तेयः (kaunteyaḥ) - the son of Kunti; विजिग्ये (vijigye) - conquered; बलवान् (balavān) - the powerful; बलात् (balāt) - by force;]
(Having withdrawn, the mighty-armed (Bhima) conquered Madarvika mountain with its region, and, having conquered, went northward. The powerful son of Kunti also forcibly conquered the land of Vatsa.)

भर्गाणामधिपं चैव निषादाधिपतिं तथा। विजिग्ये भूमिपालांश्च मणिमत्प्रमुखान्बहून् ॥२-२७-१०॥
bhargāṇām-adhipaṃ caiva niṣādādhipatiṃ tathā। vijigye bhūmipālāṃś-ca maṇimat-pramukhān-bahūn ॥2-27-10॥
[भर्गाणाम् (bhargāṇām) - of the Bhargas; (a clan) अधिपम् (adhipam) - lord; chief; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; निषाद-अधिपतिम् (niṣāda-adhipatim) - lord of the Niṣādas; तथा (tathā) - also; विजिग्ये (vijigye) - conquered; भूमि-पालान् (bhūmi-pālān) - earth-lords; kings; च (ca) - and; मणिमत्-प्रमुखान् (maṇimat-pramukhān) - headed by Maṇimat; बहून् (bahūn) - many;]
(He conquered the lord of the Bhargas, and indeed also the lord of the Niṣādas; he conquered the earth-lords (kings) and many others headed by Maṇimat.)

ततो दक्षिणमल्लांश्च भोगवन्तं च पाण्डवः। तरसैवाजयद्भीमो नातितीव्रेण कर्मणा ॥२-२७-११॥
tato dakṣiṇamallāṃś ca bhogavantaṃ ca pāṇḍavaḥ। tarasaivājayad bhīmo nātitīvreṇa karmaṇā ॥2-27-11॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; दक्षिणमल्लान् (dakṣiṇamallān) - southern wrestlers; च (ca) - and; भोगवन्तम् (bhogavantam) - Bhogavanta; च (ca) - and; पाण्डवः (pāṇḍavaḥ) - the son of Pāṇḍu; तरसा (tarasā) - with force; एव (eva) - indeed; अजयत् (ajayat) - conquered; भीमः (bhīmaḥ) - Bhīma; न (na) - not; अतितीव्रेण (atitīvreṇa) - with excessive intensity; कर्मणा (karmaṇā) - by action;]
(Then the son of Pāṇḍu conquered the southern wrestlers and Bhogavanta as well, Bhīma indeed conquered them with force, not by excessively intense action.)

शर्मकान्वर्मकांश्चैव सान्त्वेनैवाजयत्प्रभुः। वैदेहकं च राजानं जनकं जगतीपतिम् ॥ विजिग्ये पुरुषव्याघ्रो नातितीव्रेण कर्मणा ॥२-२७-१२॥
śarmakān varmakāṁś caiva sāntvenaivājayat prabhuḥ। vaidehakaṁ ca rājānaṁ janakaṁ jagatī-patim॥ vijigye puruṣa-vyāghraḥ nātitivreṇa karmaṇā॥2-27-12॥

(The lord indeed conquered the Śarmakas and the Varmakas by conciliation; and also the king of Videha, Janaka, the lord of the earth. The tiger among men subdued (them) not by excessive force, but by action. (2-27-12))
The lord won over the Śarmakas and Varmakas through conciliation, and also subdued the king of Videha, Janaka, the ruler of the earth. The tiger among men achieved victory not by excessive force, but by his actions. (2-27-12)
वैदेहस्थस्तु कौन्तेय इन्द्रपर्वतमन्तिकात्। किरातानामधिपतीन्व्यजयत्सप्त पाण्डवः ॥२-२७-१३॥
vaidehasthastu kaunteya indraparvatamantikāt। kirātānāmadhipatīnvyajayatsapta pāṇḍavaḥ ॥2-27-13॥
[वैदेहस्थः (vaidehasthaḥ) - one stationed in Videha; तु (tu) - but; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - O son of Kunti; इन्द्रपर्वत (indraparvata) - Indra-parvata (name of a mountain); अन्तिकात् (antikāt) - from the vicinity; किरातानाम् (kirātānām) - of the Kirātas (tribal people); अधिपतीन् (adhipatīn) - chiefs; व्यजयत् (vyajayat) - defeated; सप्त (sapta) - seven; पाण्डवः (pāṇḍavaḥ) - the Pāṇḍava;]
(But the one stationed in Videha, O son of Kunti, from the vicinity of Indra-parvata, defeated the seven chiefs of the Kirātas, the Pāṇḍava.)

(Then the Suhmas, the Eastern Suhmas, and the Samakshas indeed, the powerful one, having conquered in battle, the son of Kunti, the Magadhas, approached, the mighty one.)
Then the mighty son of Kunti, having conquered the Suhmas, the Eastern Suhmas, and the Samakshas in battle, approached the Magadhas. (2-27-14)
दण्डं च दण्डधारं च विजित्य पृथिवीपतीन्। तैरेव सहितः सर्वैर्गिरिव्रजमुपाद्रवत् ॥२-२७-१५॥
daṇḍaṃ ca daṇḍadhāraṃ ca vijitya pṛthivīpatīn। tair eva sahitaḥ sarvair girivrajam upādravat ॥2-27-15॥
[दण्डम् (daṇḍam) - punishment; च (ca) - and; दण्डधारम् (daṇḍadhāram) - the wielder of the staff; च (ca) - and; विजित्य (vijitya) - having conquered; पृथिवीपतीन् (pṛthivīpatīn) - the lords of the earth; तैः (taiḥ) - with those; एव (eva) - indeed; सहितः (sahitaḥ) - accompanied; सर्वैः (sarvaiḥ) - by all; गिरिव्रजम् (girivrajam) - Girivraja (name of a city); उपाद्रवत् (upādravat) - he approached;]
(Punishment and the wielder of the staff and, having conquered the lords of the earth, with those indeed, accompanied by all, he approached Girivraja.)

जारासन्धिं सान्त्वयित्वा करे च विनिवेश्य ह। तैरेव सहितो राजन्कर्णमभ्यद्रवद्बली ॥२-२७-१६॥
jārāsandhiṃ sāntvayitvā kare ca viniveśya ha। taireva sahito rājankarṇamabhyadravadbalī ॥2-27-16॥

(Having pacified Jarasandha and having placed him in the hand, indeed, accompanied only by those, O king, the strong one rushed towards Karna.)

स कम्पयन्निव महीं बलेन चतुरङ्गिणा। युयुधे पाण्डवश्रेष्ठः कर्णेनामित्रघातिना ॥२-२७-१७॥
sa kampayann iva mahīṃ balena caturaṅgiṇā। yuyudhe pāṇḍavaśreṣṭhaḥ karṇenāmitraghātinā ॥2-27-17॥

(He, as if shaking the earth with the force of the fourfold army, the best among the Pāṇḍavas fought with Karṇa, the destroyer of enemies.)

स कर्णं युधि निर्जित्य वशे कृत्वा च भारत। ततो विजिग्ये बलवान्राज्ञः पर्वतवासिनः ॥२-२७-१८॥
sa karṇaṃ yudhi nirjitya vaśe kṛtvā ca bhārata। tato vijigye balavān rājñaḥ parvatavāsinaḥ ॥2-27-18॥

अथ मोदागिरिं चैव राजानं बलवत्तरम्। पाण्डवो बाहुवीर्येण निजघान महामृधे ॥२-२७-१९॥
atha modāgiriṃ caiva rājānaṃ balavattaram। pāṇḍavo bāhuvīryeṇa nijaghāna mahāmṛdhe ॥2-27-19॥
[अथ (atha) - then; मोदागिरिं (modāgiriṃ) - Modagiri (name of a king); च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; राजानं (rājānam) - king; बलवत्तरम् (balavattaram) - more powerful; पाण्डवः (pāṇḍavaḥ) - the Pāṇḍava (Arjuna); बाहुवीर्येण (bāhuvīryeṇa) - by the strength of (his) arms; निजघान (nijaghāna) - struck down; महामृधे (mahāmṛdhe) - in the great battle;]
(Then Modagiri and indeed the king, more powerful, the Pāṇḍava by the strength of (his) arms struck down in the great battle.)

ततः पौण्ड्राधिपं वीरं वासुदेवं महाबलम्। कौशिकीकच्छनिलयं राजानं च महौजसम् ॥२-२७-२०॥
tataḥ pauṇḍrādhipaṃ vīraṃ vāsudevaṃ mahābalam। kauśikīkacchanilayaṃ rājānaṃ ca mahaujasam ॥2-27-20॥

(The lord of the Suhmas and also those who dwell by the ocean, all groups of mlecchas indeed, the bull among the Bharatas conquered.)

एवं बहुविधान्देशान्विजित्य पवनात्मजः। वसु तेभ्य उपादाय लौहित्यमगमद्बली ॥२-२७-२४॥
evaṃ bahuvidhān deśān vijitya pavanātmajaḥ। vasu tebhya upādāya lauhityam agamat balī ॥2-27-24॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; बहुविधान् (bahuvidhān) - of many kinds; देशान् (deśān) - countries; विजित्य (vijitya) - having conquered; पवनात्मजः (pavanātmajaḥ) - son of the wind; वसु (vasu) - wealth; तेभ्यः (tebhyaḥ) - from them; उपादाय (upādāya) - having taken; लौहित्यम् (lauhityam) - to the Lauhitya (river); अगमत् (agamat) - went; बली (balī) - the strong one;]
(Thus, having conquered countries of many kinds, the son of the wind, having taken wealth from them, went to the Lauhitya (river), the strong one.)
Thus, after conquering many different countries, Hanuman, the son of the wind, collected wealth from them and, being strong, went to the Lauhitya river. (2-27-24)
स सर्वान्म्लेच्छनृपतीन्सागरद्वीपवासिनः। करमाहारयामास रत्नानि विविधानि च ॥२-२७-२५॥
saḥ sarvān mleccha-nṛpatīn sāgara-dvīpa-vāsinaḥ। karam āhārayāmāsa ratnāni vividhāni ca ॥2-27-25॥
[सः (saḥ) - he; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; म्लेच्छ-नृपतīn (mleccha-nṛpatīn) - barbarian kings; सागर-द्वीप-वासिनः (sāgara-dvīpa-vāsinaḥ) - ocean-island-dwellers; करम् (karam) - tribute; आहारयामास (āhārayāmāsa) - caused to be brought; रत्नानि (ratnāni) - gems; विविधानि (vividhāni) - various; च (ca) - and;]
(He caused all the barbarian kings and the ocean-island-dwellers to bring tribute and various gems.)

चन्दनागुरुवस्त्राणि मणिमुक्तमनुत्तमम्। काञ्चनं रजतं वज्रं विद्रुमं च महाधनम् ॥२-२७-२६॥
candana-aguru-vastrāṇi maṇi-mukta-manuttamam। kāñcanaṃ rajataṃ vajraṃ vidrumaṃ ca mahādhanam ॥2-27-26॥
[चन्दन (candana) - sandalwood; अगुरु (aguru) - aloeswood; वस्त्राणि (vastrāṇi) - garments; मणि (maṇi) - gem; मुक्त (mukta) - pearl; अनुत्तमम् (anuttamam) - unsurpassed; काञ्चनम् (kāñcanam) - gold; रजतम् (rajatam) - silver; वज्रम् (vajram) - diamond; विद्रुमम् (vidrumam) - coral; च (ca) - and; महाधनम् (mahādhanam) - great wealth;]
(Sandalwood, aloeswood, garments, gem, pearl, unsurpassed; gold, silver, diamond, coral and great wealth.)

स कोटिशतसङ्ख्येन धनेन महता तदा। अभ्यवर्षदमेयात्मा धनवर्षेण पाण्डवम् ॥२-२७-२७॥
sa koṭiśatasaṅkhyena dhanena mahatā tadā। abhyavarṣadameyātmā dhanavarṣeṇa pāṇḍavam ॥2-27-27॥
[स (sa) - he; कोटिशतसङ्ख्येन (koṭiśatasaṅkhyena) - by the number of hundreds of crores; धनेन (dhanena) - with wealth; महता (mahatā) - great; तदा (tadā) - then; अभ्यवर्षत् (abhyavarṣat) - he showered upon; अमेयात्मा (ameyātmā) - of immeasurable soul; धनवर्षेण (dhanavarṣeṇa) - with a shower of wealth; पाण्डवम् (pāṇḍavam) - upon the Pāṇḍava;]
(He, with wealth amounting to hundreds of crores, great, then, of immeasurable soul, showered upon the Pāṇḍava with a shower of wealth.)
At that time, he of immeasurable soul showered great wealth, amounting to hundreds of crores, upon the Pāṇḍava in a rain of riches. (2-27-27)
इन्द्रप्रस्थमथागम्य भीमो भीमपराक्रमः। निवेदयामास तदा धर्मराजाय तद्धनम् ॥२-२७-२८॥
indraprastham athāgamya bhīmo bhīmaparākramaḥ। nivedayāmāsa tadā dharmarājāya taddhanam ॥2-27-28॥
[इन्द्रप्रस्थम् (indraprastham) - to Indraprastha; अथ (atha) - then; आगम्य (āgamya) - having arrived; भीमः (bhīmaḥ) - Bhima; भीमपराक्रमः (bhīmaparākramaḥ) - of mighty prowess; निवेदयामास (nivedayāmāsa) - reported; तदा (tadā) - then; धर्मराजाय (dharmarājāya) - to Dharmaraja; तत् (tat) - that; धनम् (dhanam) - wealth;]
(Having arrived at Indraprastha, Bhima of mighty prowess then reported that wealth to Dharmaraja.)
Then, having reached Indraprastha, Bhima, who was of great strength, reported that wealth to Dharmaraja. (2-27-28)
