ततो दिवाकरः प्रीतो दर्शयामास पाण्डवम्। दीप्यमानः स्ववपुषा ज्वलन्निव हुताशनः ॥३-४-१॥
tato divākaraḥ prīto darśayāmāsa pāṇḍavam। dīpyamānaḥ svavapuṣā jvalanniva hutāśanaḥ ॥3-4-1॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; दिवाकरः (divākaraḥ) - the sun; प्रीतः (prītaḥ) - pleased; दर्शयामास (darśayāmāsa) - showed; पाण्डवम् (pāṇḍavam) - to Pāṇḍava; दीप्यमानः (dīpyamānaḥ) - shining; स्ववपुषा (svavapuṣā) - with his own form; ज्वलन् (jvalan) - blazing; इव (iva) - as if; हुताशनः (hutāśanaḥ) - the fire;]
(Then the sun, pleased, showed himself to Pāṇḍava, shining with his own form, blazing as if he were the fire.)
Then the sun, pleased, revealed himself to Pāṇḍava, shining with his own radiance, blazing like fire. (3-4-1)
यत्तेऽभिलषितं राजन्सर्वमेतदवाप्स्यसि। अहमन्नं प्रदास्यामि सप्त पञ्च च ते समाः ॥३-४-२॥
yat te'bhilaṣitaṃ rājan sarvam etad avāpsyasi। aham annaṃ pradāsyāmi sapta pañca ca te samāḥ ॥3-4-2॥
[यत् (yat) - which; ते (te) - to you; अभिलषितं (abhilaṣitaṃ) - desired; राजन् (rājan) - O king; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; एतत् (etat) - this; अवाप्स्यसि (avāpsyasi) - you will obtain; अहम् (aham) - I; अन्नं (annaṃ) - food; प्रदास्यामि (pradāsyāmi) - will give; सप्त (sapta) - seven; पञ्च (pañca) - five; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - to you; समाः (samāḥ) - years;]
(Which you have desired, O king, all this you will obtain. I will give food for seven and five years to you.)
O king, whatever you have desired, you shall obtain all this. I will provide you with food for twelve years. (3-4-2)
फलमूलामिषं शाकं संस्कृतं यन्महानसे। चतुर्विधं तदन्नाद्यमक्षय्यं ते भविष्यति ॥ धनं च विविधं तुभ्यमित्युक्त्वान्तरधीयत ॥३-४-३॥
phalamūlāmiṣaṃ śākaṃ saṃskṛtaṃ yanmahānase। caturvidhaṃ tadannādyamakṣayyaṃ te bhaviṣyati ॥ dhanaṃ ca vividhaṃ tubhyamityuktvāntaradhīyata ॥3-4-3॥
[फल (phala) - fruit; मूल (mūla) - root; अमिषं (amiṣam) - meat; शाकं (śākam) - vegetable; संस्कृतं (saṃskṛtam) - prepared; यत् (yat) - which; महानसे (mahānase) - in the kitchen; चतुर्विधं (caturvidham) - four kinds; तत् (tat) - that; अन्नाद्यम् (annādyam) - food; अक्षय्यं (akṣayyaṃ) - imperishable; ते (te) - for you; भविष्यति (bhaviṣyati) - will be; धनं (dhanaṃ) - wealth; च (ca) - and; विविधं (vividham) - various; तुभ्यम् (tubhyam) - to you; इति (iti) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having said; अन्तरधीयत (antaradhīyata) - disappeared;]
(Fruit, root, meat, vegetable, prepared which in the kitchen; four kinds that food imperishable for you will be. Wealth and various to you thus having said disappeared.)
Fruit, roots, meat, and vegetables prepared in the kitchen—these four kinds of food will be inexhaustible for you. And, having said 'various wealth will be yours,' he disappeared. (3-4-3)
लब्ध्वा वरं तु कौन्तेयो जलादुत्तीर्य धर्मवित्। जग्राह पादौ धौम्यस्य भ्रातॄंश्चास्वजताच्युतः ॥३-४-४॥
labdhvā varaṃ tu kaunteyo jalād-uttīrya dharmavit। jagrāha pādau dhaumyasya bhrātṝn ca āsvajata acyutaḥ ॥3-4-4॥
[लब्ध्वा (labdhvā) - having obtained; वरं (varaṃ) - the boon; तु (tu) - but; कौन्तेयः (kaunteyaḥ) - son of Kunti; जलात् (jalāt) - from the water; उत्तीऱ्य (uttīrya) - having crossed; धर्मवित् (dharmavit) - knower of dharma; जग्राह (jagrāha) - he grasped; पादौ (pādau) - the feet; धौम्यस्य (dhaumyasya) - of Dhaumya; भ्रातॄन् (bhrātṝn) - brothers; च (ca) - and; आस्वजत (āsvajata) - he embraced; अच्युतः (acyutaḥ) - Acyuta (Krishna);]
(Having obtained the boon, but the son of Kunti, having crossed from the water, knower of dharma, grasped the feet of Dhaumya and embraced his brothers, Acyuta.)
Having received the boon, the son of Kunti, after crossing the water, and being versed in dharma, grasped Dhaumya's feet and embraced his brothers and Acyuta (Krishna). (3-4-4)
द्रौपद्या सह सङ्गम्य पश्यमानोऽभ्ययात्प्रभुः। महानसे तदान्नं तु साधयामास पाण्डवः ॥३-४-५॥
draupadyā saha saṅgamya paśyamāno'bhyayāt prabhuḥ। mahānase tad annaṃ tu sādhayāmāsa pāṇḍavaḥ ॥3-4-5॥

(With Draupadī, having joined, seeing, the lord approached. In the kitchen, that food indeed the Pāṇḍava prepared.)

संस्कृतं प्रसवं याति वन्यमन्नं चतुर्विधम्। अक्षय्यं वर्धते चान्नं तेन भोजयते द्विजान् ॥३-४-६॥
saṃskṛtaṃ prasavaṃ yāti vanyam annaṃ caturvidham। akṣayyaṃ vardhate ca annaṃ tena bhojayate dvijān ॥3-4-6॥

भुक्तवत्सु च विप्रेषु भोजयित्वानुजानपि। शेषं विघससञ्ज्ञं तु पश्चाद्भुङ्क्ते युधिष्ठिरः ॥ युधिष्ठिरं भोजयित्वा शेषमश्नाति पार्षती ॥३-४-७॥
bhuktavatsu ca vipreṣu bhojayitvānujaanapi| śeṣaṃ vighasasañjñaṃ tu paścādbhunkte yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ॥ yudhiṣṭhiraṃ bhojayitvā śeṣamaśnāti pārṣatī ॥3-4-7॥
[भुक्तवत्सु (bhuktavatsu) - when (they) have eaten; च (ca) - and; विप्रेषु (vipreṣu) - among the Brāhmaṇas; भोजयित्वा (bhojayitvā) - having fed; अनुजान् (anujān) - the younger brothers; अपि (api) - also; शेषं (śeṣam) - the remainder; विघससञ्ज्ञं (vighasasañjñam) - called vighasa (leftover food); तु (tu) - but; पश्चात् (paścāt) - afterwards; भुङ्क्ते (bhunkte) - eats; युधिष्ठिरः (yudhiṣṭhiraḥ) - Yudhiṣṭhira; युधिष्ठिरं (yudhiṣṭhiraṃ) - Yudhiṣṭhira (accusative); भोजयित्वा (bhojayitvā) - having fed; शेषम् (śeṣam) - the remainder; अश्नाति (aśnāti) - eats; पार्षती (pārṣatī) - Pārṣatī (Draupadī);]
(When the Brāhmaṇas and the younger brothers have eaten, having fed them, Yudhiṣṭhira afterwards eats the remainder, called vighasa. Having fed Yudhiṣṭhira, Pārṣatī (Draupadī) eats the remainder.)
After feeding the Brāhmaṇas and his younger brothers, Yudhiṣṭhira would eat the leftovers called vighasa. After feeding Yudhiṣṭhira, Pārṣatī (Draupadī) would eat the remainder. (3-4-7)
एवं दिवाकरात्प्राप्य दिवाकरसमद्युतिः। कामान्मनोऽभिलषितान्ब्राह्मणेभ्यो ददौ प्रभुः ॥३-४-८॥
evaṃ divākarāt prāpya divākarasamadyutiḥ। kāmān mano'bhilaṣitān brāhmaṇebhyo dadau prabhuḥ ॥3-4-8॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; दिवाकरात् (divākarāt) - from the sun; प्राप्य (prāpya) - having obtained; दिवाकरसमद्युतिः (divākarasamadyutiḥ) - having radiance equal to the sun; कामान् (kāmān) - desires; मनः (manaḥ) - mind; अभिलषितान् (abhilaṣitān) - wished for; ब्राह्मणेभ्यः (brāhmaṇebhyaḥ) - to the Brāhmaṇas; ददौ (dadau) - gave; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - the Lord;]
(Thus, having obtained from the sun, having radiance equal to the sun, the Lord gave to the Brāhmaṇas the desires wished for by the mind.)
Thus, having received from the sun and possessing radiance like the sun, the Lord granted to the Brāhmaṇas the desires that were wished for in their minds. (3-4-8)
पुरोहितपुरोगाश्च तिथिनक्षत्रपर्वसु। यज्ञियार्थाः प्रवर्तन्ते विधिमन्त्रप्रमाणतः ॥३-४-९॥
purohitapurogāś ca tithinakṣatraparvasu। yajñiyārthāḥ pravartante vidhimantrapramāṇataḥ ॥3-4-9॥
[पुरोहित (purohita) - priest; पुरोगाः (purogāḥ) - leaders; च (ca) - and; तिथि (tithi) - lunar day; नक्षत्र (nakṣatra) - constellation; पर्वसु (parvasu) - on festival days; यज्ञियार्थाः (yajñiyārthāḥ) - sacrificial purposes; प्रवर्तन्ते (pravartante) - are performed; विधि (vidhi) - by rule; मन्त्र (mantra) - by mantra; प्रमाणतः (pramāṇataḥ) - according to authority;]
(Priests and leaders, on lunar days, constellations, and festival days, sacrificial purposes are performed by rule, by mantra, according to authority.)
Priests and leaders conduct sacrificial rites on lunar days, constellations, and festival occasions, performing them according to prescribed rules and mantras, based on authoritative tradition. (3-4-9)
ततः कृतस्वस्त्ययना धौम्येन सह पाण्डवाः। द्विजसङ्घैः परिवृताः प्रययुः काम्यकं वनम् ॥३-४-१०॥
tataḥ kṛtasvastyayanā dhaumyena saha pāṇḍavāḥ। dvijasaṅghaiḥ parivṛtāḥ prayayuḥ kāmyakaṃ vanam ॥3-4-10॥

(Then, having performed auspicious rites, together with Dhaumya, the Pāṇḍavas, surrounded by groups of Brāhmaṇas, departed to the Kāmyaka forest.)
Then, after performing auspicious rites with Dhaumya, the Pāṇḍavas, accompanied by groups of Brāhmaṇas, set out for the Kāmyaka forest. (3-4-10)
