Pancharatra: Dhritarashtra asks Vidura to return and reconciles with Vidura.

स सभाद्वारमागम्य विदुरस्मारमोहितः। समक्षं पार्थिवेन्द्राणां पपाताविष्टचेतनः ॥३-७-२॥
sa sabhādvāram āgamya viduraḥ smāramohitaḥ। samakṣaṃ pārthivendrāṇāṃ papāta āviṣṭacetanāḥ॥3-7-2॥
[स (sa) - he; सभाद्वारम् (sabhādvāram) - assembly door; आगम्य (āgamya) - having come; विदुरः (viduraḥ) - Vidura; स्मारमोहितः (smāramohitaḥ) - bewildered by memory; समक्षम् (samakṣam) - in the presence; पार्थिवेन्द्राणाम् (pārthivendrāṇām) - of the kings; पपात (papāta) - fell; आविष्टचेतनः (āviṣṭacetanāḥ) - with possessed mind;]
(He, having come to the assembly door, Vidura, bewildered by memory, in the presence of the kings, fell with possessed mind.)
Vidura, having reached the assembly door and overcome by memories, fell down with his mind possessed, in the presence of the kings. (3-7-2)
स तु लब्ध्वा पुनः सञ्ज्ञां समुत्थाय महीतलात्। समीपोपस्थितं राजा सञ्जयं वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥३-७-३॥
sa tu labdhvā punaḥ sañjñāṃ samutthāya mahītalāt। samīpopasthitaṃ rājā sañjayaṃ vākyam abravīt ॥3-7-3॥
[स (sa) - he; तु (tu) - but; लब्ध्वा (labdhvā) - having obtained; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; सञ्ज्ञां (sañjñām) - consciousness; समुत्थाय (samutthāya) - having risen; महीतलात् (mahītalāt) - from the ground; समीपोपस्थितं (samīpopasthitam) - standing nearby; राजा (rājā) - the king; सञ्जयम् (sañjayam) - Sanjaya; वाक्यम् (vākyam) - words; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke;]
(He but having obtained again consciousness, having risen from the ground, (to the) standing nearby king Sanjaya words spoke.)
But having regained consciousness and risen from the ground, the king, seeing Sanjaya standing nearby, spoke these words to him. (3-7-3)
भ्राता मम सुहृच्चैव साक्षाद्धर्म इवापरः। तस्य स्मृत्वाद्य सुभृशं हृदयं दीर्यतीव मे ॥३-७-४॥
bhrātā mama suhṛc caiva sākṣād dharma iva aparaḥ। tasya smṛtvā adya subhṛśam hṛdayam dīryate iva me ॥3-7-4॥
[भ्राता (bhrātā) - brother; मम (mama) - my; सुहृत् (suhṛt) - friend; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; साक्षात् (sākṣāt) - directly; धर्मः (dharmaḥ) - righteousness; इव (iva) - like; अपरः (aparaḥ) - another; तस्य (tasya) - of him; स्मृत्वा (smṛtvā) - having remembered; अद्य (adya) - today; सुभृशम् (subhṛśam) - exceedingly; हृदयं (hṛdayam) - heart; दीर्यते (dīryate) - is torn; इव (iva) - as if; मे (me) - my;]
(Brother my friend and indeed directly righteousness like another; of him having remembered today exceedingly heart is torn as if my.)
My brother, who is also my friend and truly like another embodiment of righteousness; remembering him today, my heart feels as if it is being torn apart. (3-7-4)
तमानयस्व धर्मज्ञं मम भ्रातरमाशु वै। इति ब्रुवन्स नृपतिः करुणं पर्यदेवयत् ॥३-७-५॥
tam ānayasva dharmajñaṃ mama bhrātaram āśu vai। iti bruvan sa nṛpatiḥ karuṇaṃ paryadevayat ॥3-7-5॥

(Him bring knower of dharma my brother quickly indeed thus speaking he king piteously lamented.)
Saying thus, "Bring my brother, the knower of dharma, quickly indeed," the king lamented piteously. (3-7-5)
पश्चात्तापाभिसन्तप्तो विदुरस्मारकर्शितः। भ्रातृस्नेहादिदं राजन्सञ्जयं वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥३-७-६॥
paścāttāpābhisantapto vidurasmārakarśitaḥ। bhrātṛsnehādidaṃ rājansañjayaṃ vākyamabravīt ॥3-7-6॥
[पश्चात्ताप-अभिसन्तप्तः (paścāttāpa-abhisantaptaḥ) - tormented by remorse; विदुर-स्मार-करशितः (vidura-smāra-karśitaḥ) - emaciated by the memory of Vidura; भ्रातृ-स्नेहात् (bhrātṛ-snehāt) - from brotherly affection; इदं (idaṃ) - this; राजन् (rājan) - O king; सञ्जयम् (sañjayam) - to Sañjaya; वाक्यम् (vākyam) - words; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke;]
(Tormented by remorse, emaciated by the memory of Vidura, from brotherly affection, O king, these words he spoke to Sañjaya.)
O king, tormented by remorse and weakened by the memory of Vidura, out of brotherly affection, he spoke these words to Sañjaya. (3-7-6)
गच्छ सञ्जय जानीहि भ्रातरं विदुरं मम। यदि जीवति रोषेण मया पापेन निर्धुतः ॥३-७-७॥
gaccha sañjaya jānīhi bhrātaraṃ viduraṃ mama। yadi jīvati roṣeṇa mayā pāpena nirdhutaḥ ॥3-7-7॥
[गच्छ (gaccha) - go; सञ्जय (sañjaya) - Sañjaya; जानीहि (jānīhi) - know; भ्रातरम् (bhrātaram) - brother; विदुरम् (viduram) - Vidura; मम (mama) - my; यदि (yadi) - if; जीवति (jīvati) - lives; रोषेण (roṣeṇa) - by anger; मया (mayā) - by me; पापेन (pāpena) - by sin; निर्धुतः (nirdhutaḥ) - driven away; ३-७-७ (3-7-7) -;]
(Go, Sañjaya, know (about) my brother Vidura, if he lives, (who was) driven away by my sin and anger by me.)
Go, Sañjaya, find out whether my brother Vidura, whom I drove away in anger and sin, is still alive. (3-7-7)
न हि तेन मम भ्रात्रा सुसूक्ष्ममपि किञ्चन। व्यलीकं कृतपूर्वं मे प्राज्ञेनामितबुद्धिना ॥३-७-८॥
na hi tena mama bhrātrā susūkṣmam api kiñcana। vyalīkaṃ kṛtapūrvaṃ me prājñenāmitabuddhinā ॥3-7-8॥
[न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; तेन (tena) - by him; मम (mama) - my; भ्रात्रा (bhrātrā) - by brother; सुसूक्ष्मम् (susūkṣmam) - very subtle; अपि (api) - even; किञ्चन (kiñcana) - anything; व्यलीकं (vyalīkaṃ) - wrong; कृतपूर्वं (kṛtapūrvaṃ) - done before; मे (me) - by me; प्राज्ञेन (prājñena) - by the wise; अमितबुद्धिना (amitabuddhinā) - of immeasurable intellect;]
(Not indeed by him, my brother, even the very subtle anything wrong done before by me by the wise of immeasurable intellect.)
Indeed, my brother, who is wise and of immeasurable intellect, has never done even the slightest wrong to me before. (3-7-8)
स व्यलीकं कथं प्राप्तो मत्तः परमबुद्धिमान्। न जह्याज्जीवितं प्राज्ञस्तं गच्छानय सञ्जय ॥३-७-९॥
sa vyalīkaṃ kathaṃ prāpto mattaḥ paramabuddhimān। na jahyājjīvitaṃ prājñastaṃ gacchānaya sañjaya ॥3-7-9॥
[स (sa) - he; व्यलीकं (vyalīkam) - wrongdoing; कथं (kathaṃ) - how; प्राप्तः (prāptaḥ) - has obtained; मत्तः (mattaḥ) - from me; परमबुद्धिमान् (paramabuddhimān) - supremely wise; न (na) - not; जह्यात् (jahyāt) - should abandon; जीवितं (jīvitam) - life; प्राज्ञः (prājñaḥ) - the wise one; तं (taṃ) - him; गच्छ (gaccha) - go; आनय (ānaya) - bring; सञ्जय (sañjaya) - Sanjaya;]
(He wrongdoing how has obtained from me, supremely wise; not should abandon life the wise one him; go bring, Sanjaya.)
He, being supremely wise, how has he committed wrongdoing against me? The wise one should not give up his life; go and bring him, Sanjaya. (3-7-9)
तस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा राज्ञस्तमनुमान्य च। सञ्जयो बाढमित्युक्त्वा प्राद्रवत्काम्यकं वनम् ॥३-७-१०॥
tasya tadvacanaṃ śrutvā rājñastamanumānya ca। sañjayo bāḍhamityuktvā prādravatkāmyakaṃ vanam ॥3-7-10॥
[तस्य (tasya) - of him; तत् (tat) - that; वचनम् (vacanam) - speech; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; राज्ञः (rājñaḥ) - of the king; तम् (tam) - him; अनुमान्य (anumānya) - having assented; च (ca) - and; सञ्जयः (sañjayaḥ) - Sañjaya; बाढम् (bāḍham) - indeed; इति (iti) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having said; प्राद्रवत् (prādravat) - departed; काम्यकम् (kāmyakam) - Kāmyaka; वनम् (vanam) - forest;]
(Having heard that speech of him, and having assented to the king, Sañjaya, having said 'indeed', departed to the Kāmyaka forest.)
After hearing those words, and having received the king's assent, Sañjaya replied 'indeed' and set out for the Kāmyaka forest. (3-7-10)
सोऽचिरेण समासाद्य तद्वनं यत्र पाण्डवाः। रौरवाजिनसंवीतं ददर्शाथ युधिष्ठिरम् ॥३-७-११॥
so'cireṇa samāsādya tad vanaṃ yatra pāṇḍavāḥ। rauravājinasaṃvītaṃ dadarśātha yudhiṣṭhiram ॥3-7-11॥
[सः (saḥ) - he; अचिरेण (acireṇa) - in a short time; समासाद्य (samāsādya) - having reached; तत् (tat) - that; वनम् (vanam) - forest; यत्र (yatra) - where; पाण्डवाः (pāṇḍavāḥ) - the Pāṇḍavas; रौरव (raurava) - of ruru deer; अजिन (ajina) - skin; संवीतम् (saṃvītam) - clad; ददर्श (dadarśa) - he saw; अथ (atha) - then; युधिष्ठिरम् (yudhiṣṭhiram) - Yudhiṣṭhira;]
(He, in a short time, having reached that forest where the Pāṇḍavas (were), saw then Yudhiṣṭhira clad in ruru-deer skin.)
He soon reached the forest where the Pāṇḍavas were, and there he saw Yudhiṣṭhira clad in ruru-deer skin. (3-7-11)
विदुरेण सहासीनं ब्राह्मणैश्च सहस्रशः। भ्रातृभिश्चाभिसङ्गुप्तं देवैरिव शतक्रतुम् ॥३-७-१२॥
vidureṇa sahāsīnaṃ brāhmaṇaiś ca sahasraśaḥ। bhrātṛbhiś cābhisaṅguptaṃ devair iva śatakratum ॥3-7-12॥
[विदुरेण (vidureṇa) - by Vidura; सह (saha) - together with; आसीनं (āsīnam) - seated; ब्राह्मणैः (brāhmaṇaiḥ) - by Brāhmaṇas; च (ca) - and; सहस्रशः (sahasraśaḥ) - by thousands; भ्रातृभिः (bhrātṛbhiḥ) - by brothers; च (ca) - and; अभिसङ्गुप्तं (abhisaṅguptam) - well-protected; देवैः (devaiḥ) - by the gods; इव (iva) - like; शतक्रतुम् (śatakratum) - Indra (the hundred-sacrificed);]
(Seated together with Vidura, by Brāhmaṇas by thousands, and by brothers, well-protected like Indra by the gods.)
He was seated with Vidura, surrounded by thousands of Brāhmaṇas and his brothers, protected like Indra by the gods. (3-7-12)
युधिष्ठिरमथाभ्येत्य पूजयामास सञ्जयः। भीमार्जुनयमांश्चापि तदर्हं प्रत्यपद्यत ॥३-७-१३॥
yudhiṣṭhiram athābhyetya pūjayām āsa sañjayaḥ। bhīmārjunayamáṃś cāpi tad arhaṃ pratyapadyata ॥3-7-13॥
[युधिष्ठिरम् (yudhiṣṭhiram) - to Yudhishthira; अथ (atha) - then; आभ्येत्य (ābhyetya) - having approached; पूजयाम् (pūjayām) - honour; आस (āsa) - he did; सञ्जयः (sañjayaḥ) - Sanjaya; भीम (bhīma) - Bhima; अर्जुन (arjuna) - Arjuna; यमांश् (yamāṃś) - and Yama's (i.e., Yudhishthira's) brothers; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; तत् (tat) - that; अर्हम् (arham) - worthy; प्रत्यपद्यत (pratyapadyata) - he accepted;]
(Then Sanjaya, having approached Yudhishthira, honoured him. Bhima, Arjuna, and also the other brothers of Yama (Yudhishthira) accepted that which was worthy.)
Then Sanjaya approached Yudhishthira and paid him homage. Bhima, Arjuna, and the other brothers of Yudhishthira also accepted the honour due to them. (3-7-13)
राज्ञा पृष्टः स कुशलं सुखासीनश्च सञ्जयः। शशंसागमने हेतुमिदं चैवाब्रवीद्वचः ॥३-७-१४॥
rājñā pṛṣṭaḥ sa kuśalaṃ sukhāsīnaś ca sañjayaḥ। śaśaṃsāgamane hetum idaṃ caivābravīd vacaḥ ॥3-7-14॥
[राज्ञा (rājñā) - by the king; पृष्टः (pṛṣṭaḥ) - having been asked; सः (saḥ) - he; कुशलम् (kuśalam) - well-being; सुखासीनः (sukhāsīnaḥ) - comfortably seated; च (ca) - and; सञ्जयः (sañjayaḥ) - Sañjaya; शशंस (śaśaṃsa) - reported; आगमने (āgamane) - about the arrival; हेतुम् (hetum) - the reason; इदं (idaṃ) - this; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke; वचः (vacaḥ) - words;]
(By the king having been asked, he, well-being, comfortably seated and Sañjaya, reported about the arrival, the reason, this and indeed spoke words.)
When the king asked, Sañjaya, who was comfortably seated and well, reported the reason for the arrival and spoke these words. (3-7-14)
राजा स्मरति ते क्षत्तर्धृतराष्ट्रोऽम्बिकासुतः। तं पश्य गत्वा त्वं क्षिप्रं सञ्जीवय च पार्थिवम् ॥३-७-१५॥
rājā smarati te kṣattar dhṛtarāṣṭro’mbikāsutaḥ। taṃ paśya gatvā tvaṃ kṣipraṃ sañjīvaya ca pārthivam ॥3-7-15॥
[राजा (rājā) - king; स्मरति (smarati) - remembers; ते (te) - your; क्षत्तर् (kṣattar) - minister; धृतराष्ट्रः (dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ) - Dhritarashtra; अम्बिकासुतः (ambikāsutaḥ) - son of Ambika; तं (taṃ) - him; पश्य (paśya) - see; गत्वा (gatvā) - having gone; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; क्षिप्रं (kṣipraṃ) - quickly; सञ्जीवय (sañjīvaya) - revive; च (ca) - and; पार्थिवम् (pārthivam) - the king;]
(The king remembers you, O minister; Dhritarashtra, son of Ambika. See him, having gone, you quickly revive and (the) king.)

सोऽनुमान्य नरश्रेष्ठान्पाण्डवान्कुरुनन्दनान्। नियोगाद्राजसिंहस्य गन्तुमर्हसि मानद ॥३-७-१६॥
so'numānya naraśreṣṭhān pāṇḍavān kurunandanān। niyogād rājasiṃhasya gantum arhasi mānada ॥3-7-16॥
[सः (saḥ) - he; अनुमान्य (anumānya) - having taken leave of; नरश्रेष्ठान् (naraśreṣṭhān) - the best among men; पाण्डवान् (pāṇḍavān) - the Pāṇḍavas; कुरुनन्दनान् (kurunandanān) - the delight of the Kurus; नियोगात् (niyogāt) - by the command; राजसिंहस्य (rājasiṃhasya) - of the lion among kings; गन्तुम् (gantum) - to go; अर्हसि (arhasi) - you ought; मानद (mānada) - O bestower of honor;]
(He, having taken leave of the best among men, the Pāṇḍavas, the delight of the Kurus, by the command of the lion among kings, you ought to go, O bestower of honor.)
After taking leave of the foremost of men, the Pāṇḍavas, the delight of the Kurus, you should go by the command of the lion among kings, O bestower of honor. (3-7-16)
एवमुक्तस्तु विदुरो धीमान्स्वजनवत्सलः। युधिष्ठिरस्यानुमते पुनरायाद्गजाह्वयम् ॥३-७-१७॥
evam-uktas-tu viduro dhīmān svajanavatsalaḥ। yudhiṣṭhirasya-anumate punar-āyād-gajāhvayam ॥3-7-17॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - spoken; तु (tu) - but; विदुरः (viduraḥ) - Vidura; धीमान् (dhīmān) - wise; स्वजनवत्सलः (svajanavatsalaḥ) - affectionate to his own people; युधिष्ठिरस्य (yudhiṣṭhirasya) - of Yudhiṣṭhira; अनुमते (anumate) - with the consent; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; आयात् (āyāt) - came; गजाह्वयम् (gajāhvayam) - to Hastinapura;]
(Thus spoken but Vidura, wise and affectionate to his own people, with the consent of Yudhiṣṭhira, again came to Hastinapura.)
Thus, when spoken to in this way, the wise and affectionate Vidura, with Yudhiṣṭhira's consent, returned again to Hastinapura. (3-7-17)
तमब्रवीन्महाप्राज्ञं धृतराष्ट्रः प्रतापवान्। दिष्ट्या प्राप्तोऽसि धर्मज्ञ दिष्ट्या स्मरसि मेऽनघ ॥३-७-१८॥
tam abravīn mahāprājñaṃ dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ pratāpavān। diṣṭyā prāpto'si dharmajña diṣṭyā smarasi me'nagha ॥3-7-18॥
[तम् (tam) - him; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke; महाप्राज्ञम् (mahāprājñam) - to the very wise; धृतराष्ट्रः (dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ) - Dhritarashtra; प्रतापवान् (pratāpavān) - the glorious; दिष्ट्या (diṣṭyā) - by fortune; प्राप्तः (prāptaḥ) - arrived; असि (asi) - you are; धर्मज्ञ (dharmajña) - knower of dharma; दिष्ट्या (diṣṭyā) - by fortune; स्मरसि (smarasi) - you remember; मे (me) - of me; अनघ (anagha) - O sinless one;]
(Dhritarashtra, the glorious, spoke to him, the very wise: 'By fortune you have arrived, O knower of dharma; by fortune you remember me, O sinless one.')
Dhritarashtra, the illustrious king, addressed the wise one: 'It is by good fortune that you have come, O knower of dharma; it is by good fortune that you remember me, O sinless one.' (3-7-18)
अद्य रात्रौ दिवा चाहं त्वत्कृते भरतर्षभ। प्रजागरे पपश्यामि विचित्रं देहमात्मनः ॥३-७-१९॥
adya rātrau divā cāhaṃ tvatkṛte bharatarṣabha। prajāgare papaśyāmi vicitraṃ dehamātmanaḥ ॥3-7-19॥
[अद्य (adya) - today; रात्रौ (rātrau) - at night; दिवा (divā) - by day; च (ca) - and; अहम् (aham) - I; त्वत्कृते (tvatkṛte) - for your sake; भरतर्षभ (bharatarṣabha) - O best of the Bharatas; प्रजागरे (prajāgare) - in wakefulness; पपश्यामि (papaśyāmi) - I see; विचित्रम् (vicitram) - wondrous; देहम् (deham) - body; आत्मनः (ātmanaḥ) - of myself;]
(Today at night and by day I, for your sake, O best of the Bharatas, in wakefulness, see the wondrous body of myself.)
O best of the Bharatas, today, both at night and by day, I remain awake for your sake and see my own body in a strange way. (3-7-19)
सोऽङ्कमादाय विदुरं मूर्ध्न्युपाघ्राय चैव ह। क्षम्यतामिति चोवाच यदुक्तोऽसि मया रुषा ॥३-७-२०॥
so'ṅkam-ādāya viduraṃ mūrdhny-upāghrāya caiva ha। kṣamyatām-iti covāca yad-ukto'si mayā ruṣā ॥3-7-20॥

(He, having taken Vidura on his lap, having smelled (his) head, and indeed, certainly, said, "Let it be forgiven," and (also), "That which has been spoken to you by me in anger.")
He took Vidura onto his lap, smelled his head, and said, "Let it be forgiven," referring to what he had spoken to Vidura in anger. (3-7-20)
विदुर उवाच॥

Vidura said.
क्षान्तमेव मया राजन्गुरुर्नः परमो भवान्। तथा ह्यस्म्यागतः क्षिप्रं त्वद्दर्शनपरायणः ॥३-७-२१॥
kṣāntam eva mayā rājan gurur naḥ paramo bhavān। tathā hy asmy āgataḥ kṣipraṃ tvad-darśana-parāyaṇaḥ ॥3-7-21॥
[क्षान्तम् (kṣāntam) - forgiven; एव (eva) - indeed; मया (mayā) - by me; राजन् (rājan) - O king; गुरुः (guruḥ) - preceptor; नः (naḥ) - our; परमः (paramaḥ) - supreme; भवान् (bhavān) - yourself; तथा (tathā) - thus; हि (hi) - indeed; अस्मि (asmi) - I am; आगतः (āgataḥ) - arrived; क्षिप्रं (kṣipram) - quickly; त्वत् (tvat) - your; दर्शन (darśana) - sight; परायणः (parāyaṇaḥ) - devoted;]
(Forgiven indeed by me, O king, the preceptor is our supreme yourself. Thus indeed I am arrived quickly, devoted to your sight.)
O king, I have indeed forgiven; you are our supreme preceptor. Therefore, I have come quickly, devoted to seeing you. (3-7-21)
भवन्ति हि नरव्याघ्र पुरुषा धर्मचेतसः। दीनाभिपातिनो राजन्नात्र कार्या विचारणा ॥३-७-२२॥
bhavanti hi naravyāghra puruṣā dharmacetasaḥ। dīnābhipātino rājannātra kāryā vicāraṇā ॥3-7-22॥
[भवन्ति (bhavanti) - they become; हि (hi) - indeed; नरव्याघ्र (naravyāghra) - tiger among men; पुरुषाः (puruṣāḥ) - men; धर्मचेतसः (dharmacetasaḥ) - whose mind is on dharma; दीनाभिपातिनः (dīnābhipātinaḥ) - those who attack the distressed; राजन् (rājan) - O king; अत्र (atra) - here; कार्या (kāryā) - should be done; विचारणा (vicāraṇā) - investigation;]
(They indeed, O tiger among men, men whose mind is on dharma, those who attack the distressed, O king, here investigation should be done.)
O king, truly, among men whose minds are set on dharma, there are those who attack the distressed; in such cases, an investigation should be conducted. (3-7-22)
पाण्डोः सुता यादृशा मे तादृशा मे सुतास्तव। दीना इति हि मे बुद्धिरभिपन्नाद्य तान्प्रति ॥३-७-२३॥
pāṇḍoḥ sutā yādṛśā me tādṛśā me sutās tava। dīnā iti hi me buddhir abhipannā adya tān prati ॥3-7-23॥
[पाण्डोः (pāṇḍoḥ) - of Pāṇḍu; सुता (sutāḥ) - sons; यादृशा (yādṛśāḥ) - such as; मे (me) - my; तादृशा (tādṛśāḥ) - such as; मे (me) - my; सुताः (sutāḥ) - sons; तव (tava) - your; दीना (dīnāḥ) - distressed; इति (iti) - thus; हि (hi) - indeed; मे (me) - my; बुद्धिः (buddhiḥ) - thought; अभिपन्ना (abhipannā) - has arisen; अद्य (adya) - today; तान् (tān) - towards them; प्रति (prati) - regarding;]
(Of Pāṇḍu (the) sons such as my, such as my sons your; distressed thus indeed my thought has arisen today towards them regarding.)
The sons of Pāṇḍu are like my own sons, just as your sons are. Today, my mind feels compassion for them.
वैशम्पायन उवाच॥
vaiśampāyana uvāca॥
[वैशम्पायन (vaiśampāyana) - Vaiśampāyana; (name of the sage); उवाच (uvāca) - said;]

Vaiśampāyana said.
अन्योन्यमनुनीयैवं भ्रातरौ तौ महाद्युती। विदुरो धृतराष्ट्रश्च लेभाते परमां मुदम् ॥३-७-२४॥
anyonyam-anunīyaivaṃ bhrātarau tau mahādyutī। viduro dhṛtarāṣṭraś-ca lebhāte paramāṃ mudam ॥3-7-24॥
[अन्योन्यम् (anyonyam) - each other; अनुनीय (anunīya) - having embraced; एवम् (evam) - thus; भ्रातरौ (bhrātarau) - the brothers; तौ (tau) - those two; महाद्युती (mahādyutī) - of great splendor; विदुरः (viduraḥ) - Vidura; धृतराष्ट्रः (dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ) - Dhritarashtra; च (ca) - and; लेभाते (lebhāte) - obtained; परमाम् (paramām) - supreme; मुदम् (mudam) - joy;]
(Having thus embraced each other, those two brothers of great splendor, Vidura and Dhritarashtra, obtained supreme joy.)
Thus, after embracing each other, the two illustrious brothers, Vidura and Dhritarashtra, experienced the highest happiness. (3-7-24)
