Pancharatra: Sanjaya narrates Krishna’s visit to the Pandavas at Kamyaka forest.

सुदीर्घमुष्णं निःश्वस्य धृतराष्ट्रोऽम्बिकासुतः। अब्रवीत्सञ्जयं सूतमामन्त्र्य भरतर्षभ ॥३-४८-१॥
sudīrghamuṣṇaṃ niḥśvasya dhṛtarāṣṭro’mbikāsutaḥ। abravītsañjayaṃ sūtamāmantrya bharatarṣabha ॥3-48-1॥
[सुदीर्घम् (sudīrgham) - very long; उष्णम् (uṣṇam) - warm; निःश्वस्य (niḥśvasya) - having exhaled; धृतराष्ट्रः (dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ) - Dhritarashtra; अम्बिका-सुतः (ambikā-sutaḥ) - son of Ambika; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; सञ्जयम् (sañjayam) - to Sanjaya; सूतम् (sūtam) - charioteer; आमन्त्र्य (āmantrya) - having addressed; भरतर्षभ (bharatarṣabha) - bull among the Bharatas;]
(Having exhaled a very long, warm breath, Dhritarashtra, the son of Ambika, having addressed the charioteer Sanjaya, said, O bull among the Bharatas.)
Dhritarashtra, the son of Ambika, after letting out a long, warm sigh, addressed his charioteer Sanjaya and spoke, O best of the Bharatas. (3-48-1)
देवपुत्रौ महाभागौ देवराजसमद्युती। नकुलः सहदेवश्च पाण्डवौ युद्धदुर्मदौ ॥३-४८-२॥
devaputrau mahābhāgau devarājasamadyutī। nakulaḥ sahadevaś ca pāṇḍavau yuddhadurmadau ॥3-48-2॥
[देवपुत्रौ (devaputrau) - sons of a god; महाभागौ (mahābhāgau) - greatly fortunate; देवराजसमद्युती (devarājasamadyutī) - equal in splendor to the king of gods; नकुलः (nakulaḥ) - Nakula; सहदेवश्च (sahadevaś ca) - and Sahadeva; पाण्डवौ (pāṇḍavau) - the two sons of Pāṇḍu; युद्धदुर्मदौ (yuddhadurmadau) - difficult to overpower in battle;]
(The sons of a god, greatly fortunate, equal in splendor to the king of gods: Nakula and Sahadeva, the two sons of Pāṇḍu, difficult to overpower in battle.)
Nakula and Sahadeva, the two sons of Pāṇḍu, were sons of a god, greatly fortunate, and as splendid as the king of gods; they were difficult to overpower in battle. (3-48-2)
दृढायुधौ दूरपातौ युद्धे च कृतनिश्चयौ। शीघ्रहस्तौ दृढक्रोधौ नित्ययुक्तौ तरस्विनौ ॥३-४८-३॥
dṛḍhāyudhau dūrapātau yuddhe ca kṛtaniścayau। śīghrahastau dṛḍhakrodhau nityayuktau tarasvinau ॥3-48-3॥
[दृढायुधौ (dṛḍhāyudhau) - firm-weapons; (having) strong weapons; दूरपातौ (dūrapātau) - far-reaching; (those who strike) at a distance; युद्धे (yuddhe) - in battle; च (ca) - and; कृतनिश्चयौ (kṛtaniścayau) - having made a decision; determined; शीघ्रहस्तौ (śīghrahastau) - swift-handed; quick-handed; दृढक्रोधौ (dṛḍhakrodhau) - firm in anger; having strong wrath; नित्ययुक्तौ (nityayuktau) - always engaged; ever-attentive; तरस्विनौ (tarasvinau) - energetic; powerful;]
(Firm-weapons, far-reaching, in battle and determined; swift-handed, firm in anger, always engaged, energetic. (3-48-3))
They are armed with strong weapons, capable of striking from afar, determined in battle; swift-handed, steadfast in anger, ever-attentive, and energetic. (3-48-3)
भीमार्जुनौ पुरोधाय यदा तौ रणमूर्धनि। स्थास्येते सिंहविक्रान्तावश्विनाविव दुःसहौ ॥ न शेषमिह पश्यामि तदा सैन्यस्य सञ्जय ॥३-४८-४॥
bhīmarjunau purodhāya yadā tau raṇamūrdhani. sthāsyete siṃhavikrāntāśvināviva duḥsahau ॥ na śeṣamiha paśyāmi tadā sainyasya sañjaya ॥3-48-4॥
[भीमार्जुनौ (bhīmarjunau) - Bhīma and Arjuna; पुरोधाय (purodhāya) - having placed in front; यदा (yadā) - when; तौ (tau) - those two; रणमूर्धनि (raṇamūrdhani) - at the head of battle; स्थास्येते (sthāsyete) - will stand; सिंहविक्रान्तौ (siṃhavikrāntau) - lion-striding; अश्विनाविव (aśvināviva) - like the Aśvins; दुःसहौ (duḥsahau) - unbearable; न (na) - not; शेषम् (śeṣam) - remnant; इह (iha) - here; पश्यामि (paśyāmi) - I see; तदा (tadā) - then; सैन्यस्य (sainyasya) - of the army; सञ्जय (sañjaya) - O Sañjaya;]
(Bhīma and Arjuna having placed in front, when those two at the head of battle will stand, lion-striding, like the Aśvins, unbearable; not remnant here I see then of the army, O Sañjaya.)
When Bhīma and Arjuna are placed at the front and those two stand at the forefront of battle, striding like lions, like the Aśvins, and are unstoppable, then, O Sañjaya, I see no remnant of the army left. (3-48-4)
तौ ह्यप्रतिरथौ युद्धे देवपुत्रौ महारथौ। द्रौपद्यास्तं परिक्लेशं न क्षंस्येते त्वमर्षिणौ ॥३-४८-५॥
tau hyapratirathau yuddhe devaputrau mahārathau। draupadyās taṃ parikleśaṃ na kṣaṃsyete tvamarṣiṇau ॥3-48-5॥
[तौ (tau) - those two; हि (hi) - indeed; अप्रतिरथौ (apratirathau) - unmatched in chariot-fighting; युद्धे (yuddhe) - in battle; देवपुत्रौ (devaputrau) - sons of gods; महारथौ (mahārathau) - great chariot-warriors; द्रौपद्याः (draupadyāḥ) - of Draupadī; तम् (tam) - that; परिक्लेशम् (parikleśam) - affliction; न (na) - not; क्षंस्येते (kṣaṃsyete) - will tolerate; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अर्षिणौ (amarṣiṇau) - impatient;]
(Those two indeed unmatched in chariot-fighting in battle, sons of gods, great chariot-warriors, of Draupadī that affliction not will tolerate, you impatient.)
Those two, indeed, are unmatched chariot-warriors in battle, sons of the gods, and great heroes; they will not tolerate that affliction of Draupadī, for you are impatient. (3-48-5)
वृष्णयो वा महेष्वासा पाञ्चाला वा महौजसः। युधि सत्याभिसन्धेन वासुदेवेन रक्षिताः ॥ प्रधक्ष्यन्ति रणे पार्थाः पुत्राणां मम वाहिनीम् ॥३-४८-६॥
vṛṣṇayo vā maheṣvāsā pāñcālā vā mahaujasaḥ। yudhi satyābhisandhena vāsudevena rakṣitāḥ॥ pradhakṣyanti raṇe pārthāḥ putrāṇāṃ mama vāhinīm॥3-48-6॥
[वृष्णयः (vṛṣṇayaḥ) - descendants of Vṛṣṇi; वा (vā) - or; महेष्वासाः (maheṣvāsāḥ) - great bowmen; पाञ्चालाः (pāñcālāḥ) - Pāñcālas; वा (vā) - or; महौजसः (mahaujasaḥ) - of great energy; युधि (yudhi) - in battle; सत्याभिसन्धेन (satyābhisandhena) - by one firm in truth; वासुदेवेन (vāsudevena) - by Vāsudeva; रक्षिताः (rakṣitāḥ) - protected; प्रधक्ष्यन्ति (pradhakṣyanti) - will burn; रणे (raṇe) - in battle; पार्थाः (pārthāḥ) - the sons of Pṛthā (Arjuna and brothers); पुत्राणाम् (putrāṇām) - of the sons; मम (mama) - my; वाहिनीम् (vāhinīm) - army;]
(The descendants of Vṛṣṇi or the great bowmen Pāñcālas of great energy, protected in battle by Vāsudeva, who is firm in truth, will burn in battle the army of my sons, O Pārthas.)
Whether it is the Vṛṣṇis or the mighty bowmen Pāñcālas of great energy, protected in battle by Vāsudeva, who is steadfast in truth, the Pārthas will burn the army of my sons in battle. (3-48-6)
रामकृष्णप्रणीतानां वृष्णीनां सूतनन्दन। न शक्यः सहितुं वेगः पर्वतैरपि संयुगे ॥३-४८-७॥
rāmakṛṣṇapraṇītānāṃ vṛṣṇīnāṃ sūtanandana. na śakyaḥ sahituṃ vegaḥ parvatairapi saṃyuge ॥3-48-7॥
[रामकृष्णप्रणीतानां (rāmakṛṣṇapraṇītānāṃ) - of those led by Rāma and Kṛṣṇa; वृष्णीनां (vṛṣṇīnāṃ) - of the Vṛṣṇis; सूतनन्दन (sūtanandana) - O son of the charioteer; न (na) - not; शक्यः (śakyaḥ) - possible; सहितुं (sahituṃ) - to withstand; वेगः (vegaḥ) - the force; पर्वतैः (parvataiḥ) - by mountains; अपि (api) - even; संयुगे (saṃyuge) - in battle;]
(O son of the charioteer, the force of the Vṛṣṇis led by Rāma and Kṛṣṇa is not possible to be withstood even by mountains in battle.)
O son of the charioteer, even mountains cannot withstand the force of the Vṛṣṇis led by Rāma and Kṛṣṇa in battle. (3-48-7)
तेषां मध्ये महेष्वासो भीमो भीमपराक्रमः। शैक्यया वीरघातिन्या गदया विचरिष्यति ॥३-४८-८॥
teṣāṃ madhye maheṣvāso bhīmo bhīmaparākramaḥ। śaikyayā vīraghātinyā gadayā vicariṣyati ॥3-48-8॥
[तेषां (teṣām) - of them; मध्ये (madhye) - in the midst; महेष्वासः (maheṣvāsaḥ) - great archer; भीमः (bhīmaḥ) - Bhima; भीमपराक्रमः (bhīmaparākramaḥ) - of terrible prowess; शैक्यया (śaikyayā) - of Shaikya (Duryodhana's uncle) (i.e., belonging to Shaikya); वीरघातिन्या (vīraghātinyā) - hero-slaying; गदया (gadayā) - with the mace; विचरिष्यति (vicariṣyati) - will move about;]
(Of them, in the midst, the great archer Bhima, of terrible prowess, with the Shaikya hero-slaying mace, will move about.)
Among them, the great archer Bhima, of terrible prowess, will move about in the midst wielding the hero-slaying Shaikya mace. (3-48-8)
तथा गाण्डीवनिर्घोषं विस्फूर्जितमिवाशनेः। गदावेगं च भीमस्य नालं सोढुं नराधिपाः ॥३-४८-९॥
tathā gāṇḍīva-nirghoṣaṃ visphūrjitam ivāśaneḥ। gadā-vegaṃ ca bhīmasya nālaṃ soḍhuṃ narādhipāḥ ॥3-48-9॥
[तथा (tathā) - in that manner; गाण्डीव (gāṇḍīva) - Gāṇḍīva (Arjuna's bow); निर्घोषं (nirghoṣam) - loud sound; विस्फूर्जितम् (visphūrjitam) - roaring; इव (iva) - like; आशनेः (āśaneḥ) - of thunder; गदा (gadā) - mace; वेगं (vegam) - force; च (ca) - and; भीमस्य (bhīmasya) - of Bhīma; न (na) - not; अलम् (alam) - capable; सोढुं (soḍhum) - to endure; नराधिपाः (narādhipāḥ) - kings;]
(In that manner, the loud sound of Gāṇḍīva, roaring like thunder; and the force of Bhīma's mace, the kings were not capable to endure.)
In that way, the kings could not withstand the thunderous sound of Gāṇḍīva, which roared like thunder, nor the force of Bhīma's mace. (3-48-9)
ततोऽहं सुहृदां वाचो दुर्योधनवशानुगः। स्मरणीयाः स्मरिष्यामि मया या न कृताः पुरा ॥३-४८-१०॥
tato'haṃ suhṛdāṃ vāco duryodhanavaśānugaḥ। smaraṇīyāḥ smariṣyāmi mayā yā na kṛtāḥ purā ॥3-48-10॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; अहम् (aham) - I; सुहृदाम् (suhṛdām) - of friends; वाचः (vācaḥ) - words; दुर्योधन (duryodhana) - Duryodhana; वश (vaśa) - control; अनुगः (anugaḥ) - follower; स्मरणीयाः (smaraṇīyāḥ) - to be remembered; स्मरिष्यामि (smariṣyāmi) - I will remember; मया (mayā) - by me; या (yā) - which; न (na) - not; कृताः (kṛtāḥ) - done; पुरा (purā) - before;]
(Then I, follower under the control of Duryodhana, did not do the words of friends before; those to be remembered I will remember by me which were not done before.)
Then, being under Duryodhana's control, I did not act on the words of my friends before; now I will remember those memorable things which I did not do earlier. (3-48-10)

व्यतिक्रमोऽयं सुमहांस्त्वया राजन्नुपेक्षितः। समर्थेनापि यन्मोहात्पुत्रस्ते न निवारितः ॥३-४८-११॥
vyatikramo'yaṃ sumahāṃstvayā rājannupekṣitaḥ। samarthenāpi yanmohātputraste na nivāritaḥ॥3-48-11॥
[व्यतिक्रमः (vyatikramaḥ) - transgression; अयम् (ayam) - this; सुमहान् (sumahān) - very great; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; राजन् (rājan) - O king; उपेक्षितः (upekṣitaḥ) - overlooked; समर्थेन (samarthena) - by the capable; अपि (api) - even; यत् (yat) - that; मोहात् (mohāt) - out of delusion; पुत्रः (putraḥ) - son; ते (te) - your; न (na) - not; निवारितः (nivāritaḥ) - restrained;]
(This very great transgression has been overlooked by you, O king. Even though capable, because of delusion, your son was not restrained.)
O king, you have overlooked this very great transgression. Although you were capable, due to delusion, your son was not restrained. (3-48-11)
श्रुत्वा हि निर्जितान्द्यूते पाण्डवान्मधुसूदनः। त्वरितः काम्यके पार्थान्समभावयदच्युतः ॥३-४८-१२॥
śrutvā hi nirjitān dyūte pāṇḍavān madhusūdanaḥ। tvaritaḥ kāmyake pārthān samabhāvayad acyutaḥ ॥3-48-12॥
[श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; हि (hi) - indeed; निर्जितान् (nirjitān) - defeated; द्यूते (dyūte) - in dice; पाण्डवान् (pāṇḍavān) - the Pāṇḍavas; मधुसूदनः (madhusūdanaḥ) - Madhusūdana; त्वरितः (tvaritaḥ) - quickly; काम्यके (kāmyake) - in Kāmyaka; पार्थान् (pārthān) - the sons of Pṛthā; समभावयत् (samabhāvayat) - approached; अच्युतः (acyutaḥ) - Acyuta;]
(Having heard indeed the Pāṇḍavas defeated in dice, Madhusūdana, quickly in Kāmyaka, approached the sons of Pṛthā, Acyuta.)
When Madhusūdana (Acyuta) heard that the Pāṇḍavas had been defeated in the game of dice, he quickly went to the sons of Pṛthā in the Kāmyaka forest. (3-48-12)
द्रुपदस्य तथा पुत्रा धृष्टद्युम्नपुरोगमाः। विराटो धृष्टकेतुश्च केकयाश्च महारथाः ॥३-४८-१३॥
drupadasya tathā putrā dhṛṣṭadyumna-purogamāḥ। virāṭo dhṛṣṭaketuś ca kekayāś ca mahārathāḥ ॥3-48-13॥
[द्रुपदस्य (drupadasya) - of Drupada; तथा (tathā) - also; पुत्राः (putrāḥ) - sons; धृष्टद्युम्नपुरोगमाः (dhṛṣṭadyumna-purogamāḥ) - headed by Dhṛṣṭadyumna; विराटः (virāṭaḥ) - Virāṭa; धृष्टकेतुः (dhṛṣṭaketuḥ) - Dhṛṣṭaketu; च (ca) - and; केकयाः (kekayāḥ) - the Kekayas; च (ca) - and; महारथाः (mahārathāḥ) - great chariot-warriors;]
(Of Drupada also the sons headed by Dhṛṣṭadyumna; Virāṭa, Dhṛṣṭaketu and the Kekayas and great chariot-warriors.)
The sons of Drupada, headed by Dhṛṣṭadyumna, as well as Virāṭa, Dhṛṣṭaketu, and the Kekayas—all great chariot-warriors—were also present. (3-48-13)
तैश्च यत्कथितं तत्र दृष्ट्वा पार्थान्पराजितान्। चारेण विदितं सर्वं तन्मया वेदितं च ते ॥३-४८-१४॥
taiś ca yat kathitaṃ tatra dṛṣṭvā pārthān parājitān। cāreṇa viditaṃ sarvaṃ tan mayā veditaṃ ca te ॥3-48-14॥
[तैः (taiḥ) - by them; च (ca) - and; यत् (yat) - what; कथितं (kathitam) - spoken; तत्र (tatra) - there; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; पार्थान् (pārthān) - the sons of Pṛthā; पराजितान् (parājitān) - defeated; चारेण (cāreṇa) - by the spy; विदितं (viditam) - known; सर्वं (sarvam) - all; तत् (tat) - that; मया (mayā) - by me; वेदितं (veditam) - understood; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - to you;]
(By them and what was spoken there, having seen the sons of Pṛthā defeated; by the spy all was known, that by me understood and to you.)
And what was spoken there by them, having seen the sons of Pṛthā defeated; all this was known by the spy, and that I have understood and told to you. (3-48-14)
समागम्य वृतस्तत्र पाण्डवैर्मधुसूदनः। सारथ्ये फल्गुनस्याजौ तथेत्याह च तान्हरिः ॥३-४८-१५॥
samāgamya vṛtastatra pāṇḍavairmadhusūdanaḥ। sārathye phalgunasyaājau tathetyāha ca tānhariḥ ॥3-48-15॥
[समागम्य (samāgamya) - having come together; वृतः (vṛtaḥ) - surrounded; तत्र (tatra) - there; पाण्डवैः (pāṇḍavaiḥ) - by the Pāṇḍavas; मधुसूदनः (madhusūdanaḥ) - Madhusūdana (Kṛṣṇa); सारथ्ये (sārathye) - in charioteering; फल्गुनस्य (phalgunasya) - of Phalguna (Arjuna); अजौ (ājau) - in battle; तथेत्य् (tathety) - thus; आह (āha) - said; च (ca) - and; तान् (tān) - to them; हरिः (hariḥ) - Hari (Kṛṣṇa);]
(Having come together, surrounded there by the Pāṇḍavas, Madhusūdana in charioteering of Phalguna in battle, thus said and to them Hari.)
Having assembled there and surrounded by the Pāṇḍavas, Madhusūdana (Kṛṣṇa) took up the charioteering of Phalguna (Arjuna) in battle, and thus Hari spoke to them. (3-48-15)
अमर्षितो हि कृष्णोऽपि दृष्ट्वा पार्थांस्तथागतान्। कृष्णाजिनोत्तरासङ्गानब्रवीच्च युधिष्ठिरम् ॥३-४८-१६॥
amarṣito hi kṛṣṇo'pi dṛṣṭvā pārthāṃstathāgatān। kṛṣṇājinottarāsaṅgānabravīcca yudhiṣṭhiram ॥3-48-16॥
[अमर्षितः (amarṣitaḥ) - angered; हि (hi) - indeed; कृष्णः (kṛṣṇaḥ) - Kṛṣṇa; अपि (api) - also; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; पार्थान् (pārthān) - the sons of Pṛthā; तथागतान् (tathāgatān) - thus come (arrived); कृष्णाजिनोत्तरासङ्गान् (kṛṣṇājinottarāsaṅgān) - wearing upper garments of black antelope skin; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; च (ca) - and; युधिष्ठिरम् (yudhiṣṭhiram) - to Yudhiṣṭhira;]
(Angered indeed Kṛṣṇa also, having seen the sons of Pṛthā thus come, wearing upper garments of black antelope skin, said and to Yudhiṣṭhira.)
Kṛṣṇa, also angered, upon seeing the sons of Pṛthā arrive wearing upper garments of black antelope skin, spoke to Yudhiṣṭhira. (3-48-16)
या सा समृद्धिः पार्थानामिन्द्रप्रस्थे बभूव ह। राजसूये मया दृष्टा नृपैरन्यैः सुदुर्लभा ॥३-४८-१७॥
yā sā samṛddhiḥ pārthānām indraprasthe babhūva ha। rājasūye mayā dṛṣṭā nṛpair anyaiḥ sudurlabhā ॥3-48-17॥
[या (yā) - which (feminine); सा (sā) - that (feminine); समृद्धिः (samṛddhiḥ) - prosperity; पार्थानाम् (pārthānām) - of the sons of Pṛthā; इन्द्रप्रस्थे (indraprasthe) - in Indraprastha; बभूव (babhūva) - was; ह (ha) - indeed; राजसूये (rājasūye) - at the Rājasūya (sacrifice); मया (mayā) - by me; दृष्टा (dṛṣṭā) - seen; नृपैः (nṛpaiḥ) - by kings; अन्यैः (anyaiḥ) - by others; सुदुर्लभा (sudurlabhā) - very difficult to obtain;]
(Which that prosperity of the sons of Pṛthā in Indraprastha was indeed; at the Rājasūya by me seen, by other kings very difficult to obtain.)
That prosperity which belonged to the sons of Pṛthā in Indraprastha, which I saw at the Rājasūya sacrifice, is indeed very difficult for other kings to attain. (3-48-17)
यत्र सर्वान्महीपालाञ्शस्त्रतेजोभयार्दितान्। सवङ्गाङ्गान्सपौण्ड्रोड्रान्सचोलद्रविडान्धकान् ॥३-४८-१८॥
yatra sarvān mahīpālāñ śastra-tejo-bhayārdhitān। sa-vaṅgāṅgān sa-pauṇḍroḍrān sa-cola-draviḍāndhakān ॥3-48-18॥
[यत्र (yatra) - where; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; महीपालान् (mahīpālān) - kings of the earth; शस्त्र (śastra) - weapon; तेजः (tejaḥ) - splendor; भय (bhaya) - fear; आर्दितान् (ārdhitān) - afflicted; स (sa) - with; वङ्गाङ्गान् (vaṅgāṅgān) - Vanga and Anga peoples; स (sa) - with; पौण्ड्र (pauṇḍra) - Paundra; उड्रान् (uḍrān) - Udra; स (sa) - with; चोल (cola) - Chola; द्रविड (draviḍa) - Dravida; अन्धकान् (andhakān) - Andhaka;]
(Where all the kings of the earth, afflicted by weapon, splendor, and fear, with the Vanga and Anga peoples, with the Paundras and Udras, with the Cholas, Dravidas, and Andhakas.)
Where all the kings of the earth, along with the Vanga, Anga, Paundra, Udra, Chola, Dravida, and Andhaka peoples, were afflicted by weapons, splendor, and fear. (3-48-18)
सागरानूपगांश्चैव ये च पत्तनवासिनः। सिंहलान्बर्बरान्म्लेच्छान्ये च जाङ्गलवासिनः ॥३-४८-१९॥
sāgarānūpagāṃścaiva ye ca pattanavāsinaḥ। siṃhalānbarbarānmlecchānye ca jāṅgalavāsinaḥ ॥3-48-19॥

तद्धर्मराजवचनं प्रतिश्रुत्य सभासदः। धृष्टद्युम्नपुरोगास्ते शमयामासुरञ्जसा ॥ केशवं मधुरैर्वाक्यैः कालयुक्तैरमर्षितम् ॥३-४८-३०॥
taddharmarājavacanaṃ pratiśrutya sabhāsadaḥ। dhṛṣṭadyumnapurogāste śamayāmāsurañjasā ॥ keśavaṃ madhurairvākyaiḥ kālayuktairamarṣitam ॥3-48-30॥

पाञ्चालीं चाहुरक्लिष्टां वासुदेवस्य शृण्वतः। दुर्योधनस्तव क्रोधाद्देवि त्यक्ष्यति जीवितम् ॥ प्रतिजानीम ते सत्यं मा शुचो वरवर्णिनि ॥३-४८-३१॥
pāñcālīṃ cāhur akliṣṭāṃ vāsudevasya śṛṇvataḥ। duryodhanas tava krodhād devi tyakṣyati jīvitam॥ pratijānīma te satyaṃ mā śuco varavarṇini॥3-48-31॥

(Draupadī and they said unafflicted, of Vāsudeva hearing; Duryodhana, your, from anger, O goddess, will abandon life. I promise to you truth, do not grieve, O best-complexioned lady.)
They said to Draupadī, who was untroubled, in the presence of Vāsudeva: 'Duryodhana, out of anger at you, O goddess, will give up his life. I promise you this truth; do not grieve, O beautiful lady.' (3-48-31)
ये स्म ते कुपितां कृष्णे दृष्ट्वा त्वां प्राहसंस्तदा। मांसानि तेषां खादन्तो हसिष्यन्ति मृगद्विजाः ॥३-४८-३२॥
ye sma te kupitāṃ kṛṣṇe dṛṣṭvā tvāṃ prāhasaṃstadā। māṃsāni teṣāṃ khādanto hasiṣyanti mṛgadvijāḥ ॥3-48-32॥

(Who indeed they angry at Kṛṣṇa having seen you laughed then; flesh of them eating will laugh beasts and birds;)
Those who, having seen you angry at Kṛṣṇa, laughed at that time—beasts and birds, eating their flesh, will laugh. (3-48-32)
पास्यन्ति रुधिरं तेषां गृध्रा गोमायवस्तथा। उत्तमाङ्गानि कर्षन्तो यैस्त्वं कृष्टा सभातले ॥३-४८-३३॥
pāsyanti rudhiraṃ teṣāṃ gṛdhrā gomāyavas tathā। uttamāṅgāni karṣanto yais tvaṃ kṛṣṭā sabhātale ॥3-48-33॥
[पास्यन्ति (pāsyanti) - drink; (they) रुधिरं (rudhiraṃ) - blood; तेषां (teṣām) - of them; गृध्रा (gṛdhrāḥ) - vultures; गोमायवः (gomāyavaḥ) - jackals; तथा (tathā) - also; उत्तमाङ्गानि (uttamāṅgāni) - the heads; कर्षन्तः (karṣantaḥ) - dragging; यैः (yaiḥ) - by whom; त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; कृष्टाः (kṛṣṭāḥ) - dragged; सभातले (sabhātale) - on the floor of the assembly;]
(Vultures and jackals also will drink the blood of those by whom you, having been dragged, (are) on the floor of the assembly, dragging the heads.)

[तेषां (teṣām) - of them; द्रक्ष्यसि (drakṣyasi) - you will see; पाञ्चालि (pāñcāli) - O Pāñcālī; गात्राणि (gātrāṇi) - bodies; पृथिवीतले (pṛthivī-tale) - on the surface of the earth; क्रव्यादैः (kravyādaiḥ) - by flesh-eaters; कृष्यमाणानि (kṛṣyamāṇāni) - being dragged; भक्ष्यमाणानि (bhakṣyamāṇāni) - being eaten; च (ca) - and; असकृत् (asakṛt) - repeatedly;]
(Of them you will see, O Pāñcālī, bodies on the surface of the earth, by flesh-eaters being dragged, being eaten and repeatedly.)
O Pāñcālī, you will see their bodies on the earth's surface, repeatedly being dragged and eaten by flesh-eating creatures. (3-48-34)
परिक्लिष्टासि यैस्तत्र यैश्चापि समुपेक्षिता। तेषामुत्कृत्तशिरसां भूमिः पास्यति शोणितम् ॥३-४८-३५॥
parikliṣṭāsi yaistatra yaiścāpi samupekṣitā। teṣāmutkṛttaśirasāṃ bhūmiḥ pāsyati śoṇitam ॥3-48-35॥
[परिक्लिष्टासि (parikliṣṭāsi) - you have been tormented; यैः (yaiḥ) - by whom; तत्र (tatra) - there; यैः (yaiḥ) - by whom; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; समुपेक्षिता (samupekṣitā) - have been neglected; तेषाम् (teṣām) - of those; उत्कृत्तशिरसाम् (utkṛttaśirasām) - whose heads have been cut off; भूमिः (bhūmiḥ) - the earth; पास्यति (pāsyati) - will drink; शोणितम् (śoṇitam) - blood;]
(You have been tormented by whom there, and also have been neglected by whom; of those whose heads have been cut off, the earth will drink blood.)

एवं बहुविधा वाचस्तदोचुः पुरुषर्षभाः। सर्वे तेजस्विनः शूराः सर्वे चाहतलक्षणाः ॥३-४८-३६॥
evaṃ bahuvidhā vācas tad ocuḥ puruṣarṣabhāḥ। sarve tejasvinaḥ śūrāḥ sarve cāhatalakṣaṇāḥ ॥3-48-36॥

(Thus, words of many kinds they spoke, bulls among men; all radiant, valiant, all and bearing marks of wounds.)

रामश्च कृष्णश्च धनञ्जयश्च; प्रद्युम्नसाम्बौ युयुधानभीमौ। माद्रीसुतौ केकयराजपुत्राः; पाञ्चालपुत्राः सह धर्मराज्ञा ॥३-४८-३८॥

एतान्सर्वाँल्लोकवीरानजेया; न्महात्मनः सानुबन्धान्ससैन्यान्। को जीवितार्थी समरे प्रत्युदीया; त्क्रुद्धान्सिंहान्केसरिणो यथैव ॥३-४८-३९॥
etānsarvāṃllokavīrānajeyān mahātmanaḥ sānubandhān sasainyān। ko jīvitārthī samare pratyudīyāt kruddhān siṃhān kesariṇo yathaiva ॥3-48-39॥
[एतान् (etān) - these; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; लोकवीरान् (lokavīrān) - world-heroes; अजेयान् (ajeyān) - invincible; महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - great-souled; स (sa) - with; अनुबन्धान् (anubandhān) - followers; स (sa) - with; सैन्यान् (sainyān) - armies; कः (kaḥ) - who; जीवितार्थी (jīvitārthī) - desiring life; समरे (samare) - in battle; प्रत्युदीयात् (pratyudīyāt) - would face; क्रुद्धान् (kruddhān) - angry; सिंहान् (siṃhān) - lions; केसरीणः (kesariṇaḥ) - lion-leaders; यथा (yathā) - just as; एव (eva) - indeed;]
(These all world-heroes, invincible, great-souled, with followers, with armies; who desiring life in battle would face angry lions, lion-leaders, just as indeed.)
Who, desiring to live, would face in battle these invincible world-heroes, great-souled ones with their followers and armies, just as one would face angry lions led by a lion? (3-48-39)

यन्माब्रवीद्विदुरो द्यूतकाले; त्वं पाण्डवाञ्जेष्यसि चेन्नरेन्द्र। ध्रुवं कुरूणामयमन्तकालो; महाभयो भविता शोणितौघः ॥३-४८-४०॥
yan mābravīd viduro dyūtakāle; tvaṃ pāṇḍavāñ jeṣyasi cen narendra. dhruvaṃ kurūṇām ayam antakālo; mahābhayo bhavitā śoṇitaughaḥ ॥3-48-40॥
[यत् (yat) - which; मा (mā) - to me; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; विदुरः (viduraḥ) - Vidura; द्यूतकाले (dyūtakāle) - at the time of dice-game; त्वम् (tvam) - you; पाण्डवान् (pāṇḍavān) - the Pāṇḍavas; जेष्यसि (jeṣyasi) - will conquer; चेत् (cet) - if; नरेन्द्र (narendra) - O king; ध्रुवम् (dhruvam) - certainly; कुरूणाम् (kurūṇām) - of the Kurus; अयम् (ayam) - this; अन्तकालः (antakālaḥ) - end-time; महाभयः (mahābhayaḥ) - great danger; भविता (bhavitā) - will be; शोणितौघः (śoṇitaughaḥ) - flood of blood;]
(Which to me said Vidura at the time of dice-game; you the Pāṇḍavas will conquer if, O king. Certainly of the Kurus this is the end-time; great danger will be, flood of blood.)
What Vidura told me at the time of the dice-game — 'If you defeat the Pāṇḍavas, O king, surely this will be the end-time for the Kurus; there will be great danger, a flood of blood.' (3-48-40)
मnye तथा तद्भवितेति सूत; यथा क्षत्ता प्राह वचः पुरा माम्। असंशयं भविता युद्धमेत; द्गते काले पाण्डवानां यथोक्तम् ॥३-४८-४१॥
manye tathā tadbhavitēti sūta; yathā kṣattā prāha vacaḥ purā mām. asaṁśayaṁ bhavitā yuddham etad; gate kāle pāṇḍavānāṁ yathoktam ॥3-48-41॥
[मnye (manye) - I think; तथा (tathā) - thus; तद्भवितेति (tadbhavitēti) - that it will happen so; सूत (sūta) - O charioteer; यथा (yathā) - as; क्षत्ता (kṣattā) - the minister; प्राह (prāha) - said; वचः (vacaḥ) - words; पुरा (purā) - formerly; माम् (mām) - to me; असंशयं (asaṁśayaṁ) - without doubt; भविता (bhavitā) - will be; युद्धम् (yuddham) - battle; एतत् (etat) - this; गते (gate) - having passed; काले (kāle) - time; पाण्डवानां (pāṇḍavānāṁ) - of the Pāṇḍavas; यथोक्तम् (yathoktam) - as said;]
(I think thus, that it will happen so, O charioteer; as the minister formerly said these words to me. Without doubt, this battle will be, when the time of the Pāṇḍavas comes as said.)
I believe, O charioteer, that it will indeed happen as the minister once told me. Surely, this battle will take place when the time comes for the Pāṇḍavas, just as foretold. (3-48-41)
