किमर्थं सहसा विन्ध्यः प्रवृद्धः क्रोधमूर्छितः। एतदिच्छाम्यहं श्रोतुं विस्तरेण महामुने ॥०३-१०२-१॥
kimarthaṃ sahasā vindhyaḥ pravṛddhaḥ krodhamūrcchitaḥ। etadicchāmyahaṃ śrotuṃ vistareṇa mahāmune ॥03-102-1॥
[किमर्थम् (kimartham) - for what reason; सहसा (sahasā) - suddenly; विन्ध्यः (vindhyaḥ) - Vindhya (the mountain, nominative singular masculine); प्रवृद्धः (pravṛddhaḥ) - grown greatly; expanded; क्रोधमूर्छितः (krodhamūrcchitaḥ) - overpowered by anger; intoxicated with wrath; एतत् (etat) - this; इच्छामि (icchāmi) - I wish; अहं (ahaṃ) - I; श्रोतुम् (śrotum) - to hear; विस्तरेण (vistareṇa) - in detail; thoroughly; महामुनि (mahāmune) - O great sage;]
(For what reason suddenly Vindhya, greatly expanded, overpowered by anger? This I wish I to hear in detail, O great sage.)
O great sage, I wish to hear in detail for what reason Vindhya suddenly grew greatly, overpowered by anger. (03-102-1)

adrirājaṃ mahāśailaṃ maruṃ kanakaparvatam। udayāstamaye bhānuḥ pradakṣiṇamavartata ॥03-102-2॥

The Sun turned clockwise around the king of mountains, the great rock, Maru, and Kanaka mountain at sunrise and sunset. (03-102-2)
तं तु दृष्ट्वा तथा विन्ध्यः शैलः सूर्यमथाब्रवीत्। यथा हि मेरुर्भवता नित्यशः परिगम्यते ॥ प्रदक्षिणं च क्रियते मामेवं कुरु भास्कर ॥०३-१०२-३॥
taṃ tu dṛṣṭvā tathā vindhyaḥ śailaḥ sūryam athābravīt। yathā hi merur bhavatā nityaśaḥ parigamyate॥ pradakṣiṇaṃ ca kriyate mām evaṃ kuru bhāskara॥03-102-3॥
[तं (taṃ) - him; तु (tu) - but; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; तथा (tathā) - thus; विन्ध्यः (vindhyaḥ) - Vindhya; शैलः (śailaḥ) - mountain; सूर्यम् (sūryam) - the Sun; अथ (atha) - then; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke; यथा (yathā) - as; हि (hi) - indeed; मेरुः (meruḥ) - Mount Meru; भवताः (bhavatā) - by you; नित्यशः (nityaśaḥ) - always; परिगम्यते (parigamyate) - is walked around; प्रदक्षिणं (pradakṣiṇam) - circumambulation; च (ca) - and; क्रियते (kriyate) - is done; माम् (mām) - me; एवं (evaṃ) - thus; कुरु (kuru) - do; भास्कर (bhāskara) - O Bhāskara (Sun);]
(But having seen him thus, Vindhya the mountain then spoke to the Sun: As indeed Meru by you is always walked around and circumambulated, so do me thus, O Bhāskara.)
But when Vindhya, the mountain, saw him thus, he spoke to the Sun: "Just as you always circle and go around Mount Meru, please do the same for me, O Bhāskara (Sun)." (03-102-3)
एवमुक्तस्ततः सूर्यः शैलेन्द्रं प्रत्यभाषत। नाहमात्मेच्छया शैल करोम्येनं प्रदक्षिणम् ॥ एष मार्गः प्रदिष्टो मे येनेदं निर्मितं जगत् ॥०३-१०२-४॥
evam uktas tataḥ sūryaḥ śailendraṃ pratyabhāṣata। nāham ātmechchhayā śaila karomy enaṃ pradakṣiṇam ॥ eṣa mārgaḥ pradiṣṭo me yenedaṃ nirmitam jagat ॥03-102-4॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - having been addressed; ततः (tataḥ) - then; सूर्यः (sūryaḥ) - the Sun; शैलेन्द्रम् (śailendram) - to the lord of mountains; प्रत्यभाषत (pratyabhāṣata) - replied; न (na) - not; अहम् (aham) - I; आत्म-इच्छया (ātma-icchayā) - by own will; शैल (śaila) - O mountain; करोमि (karomi) - I do; एनम् (enam) - this; प्रदक्षिणम् (pradakṣiṇam) - circumambulation; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; मार्गः (mārgaḥ) - path; प्रदिष्टः (pradiṣṭaḥ) - has been prescribed; मे (me) - for me; येन (yena) - by which; इदम् (idam) - this; निर्मितम् (nirmitam) - created; जगत् (jagat) - world;]
(Thus having been addressed, then the Sun replied to the lord of mountains: "Not by my own will, O mountain, I do this circumambulation. This path has been prescribed for me by which this world was created." (03-102-4))
Thus addressed, the Sun then replied to the lord of mountains: "I do not make this circumambulation of my own will, O mountain. This path has been prescribed for me, by which this world has been created." (03-102-4)
एवमुक्तस्ततः क्रोधात्प्रवृद्धः सहसाचलः। सूर्याचन्द्रमसोर्मार्गं रोद्धुमिच्छन्परन्तप ॥०३-१०२-५॥
evam-uktas tataḥ krodhāt pravṛddhaḥ sahasā acalaḥ। sūrya-candramasoḥ mārgaṃ roddhum icchan parantapa ॥03-102-5॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - having been spoken; ततः (tataḥ) - thereupon; क्रोधात् (krodhāt) - from anger; प्रवृद्धः (pravṛddhaḥ) - grown intense; सहसा (sahasā) - suddenly; अचलः (acalaḥ) - the mountain; सूर्याचन्द्रमसोः (sūrya-candramasoḥ) - of the sun and the moon; मार्गम् (mārgaṃ) - the path; रोद्धुम् (roddhum) - to obstruct; इच्छन् (icchan) - desiring; परन्तप (parantapa) - O scorcher of foes;]
(Thus having been spoken, thereupon, from anger grown intense, suddenly the mountain, desiring to obstruct the path of the sun and the moon, O scorcher of foes.)
O scorcher of foes, thus spoken to, then, with anger greatly increased, the mountain suddenly, wishing to block the path of the sun and the moon. (03-102-5)
ततो देवाः सहिताः सर्व एव; सेन्द्राः समागम्य महाद्रिराजम्। निवारयामासुरुपायतस्तं; न च स्म तेषां वचनं चकार ॥०३-१०२-६॥
tato devāḥ sahitāḥ sarva eva; sendrāḥ samāgamya mahādrirājam। nivārayāmāsur upāyataḥ taṃ; na ca sma teṣāṃ vacanaṃ cakāra ॥03-102-6॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; देवाः (devāḥ) - the gods; सहिताः (sahitāḥ) - united; सर्व एव (sarva eva) - all indeed; सेन्द्राः (sendrāḥ) - with Indra; समागम्य (samāgamya) - having assembled; महाद्रिराजम् (mahādrirājam) - the great king of mountains; निवारयामासुः (nivārayāmāsuḥ) - they tried to restrain; उपायतः (upāyataḥ) - by means; तं (taṃ) - him; न च स्म (na ca sma) - but not indeed; तेषां (teṣāṃ) - their; वचनम् (vacanam) - words; चकार (cakāra) - (he) did heed;]
(Then the gods, all united with Indra, having assembled to the great king of mountains, tried to restrain him by means; but he did not heed their words.)
Then all the gods together with Indra assembled and approached the great king of mountains, tried by various means to restrain him, but he did not listen to their words. (03-102-6)
अथाभिजग्मुर्मुनिमाश्रमस्थं; तपस्विनं धर्मभृतां वरिष्ठम्। अगस्त्यमत्यद्भुतवीर्यदीप्तं; तं चार्थमूचुः सहिताः सुरास्ते ॥०३-१०२-७॥
athābhijagmur munim āśramasthaṃ; tapasvinaṃ dharmabhṛtāṃ variṣṭham। agastyam atyadbhutavīryadīptaṃ; taṃ ca artham ūcuḥ sahitāḥ surās te ॥03-102-7॥
[अथ (atha) - then; अभिजग्मुः (abhijagmuḥ) - they approached; मुनिम् (munim) - sage; आश्रमस्थं (āśramastham) - abiding in the hermitage; तपस्विनम् (tapasvinam) - ascetic; धर्मभृताम् (dharmabhṛtām) - of the supporters of dharma; वरिष्ठम् (variṣṭham) - the most eminent; अगस्त्यम् (agastyam) - Agastya; अत्यद्भुतवीर्यदीप्तम् (atyadbhutavīryadīptam) - endowed with exceedingly wondrous power; तम् (tam) - him; च (ca) - and; अर्थम् (artham) - the matter; ऊचुः (ūcuḥ) - they spoke; सहिताः (sahitāḥ) - together; सुराः (surāḥ) - the gods; ते (te) - they;]
(Then they approached the sage abiding in the hermitage, the ascetic, most eminent of the supporters of dharma, Agastya endowed with exceedingly wondrous power; and to him, the gods together spoke the matter.)
Then the gods, all together, approached the sage Agastya, the ascetic who was the foremost among upholders of dharma, residing in the hermitage and endowed with extraordinary power; to him they spoke about their purpose. (03-102-7)

(the gods said;)
The gods said.
सूर्याचन्द्रमसोर्मार्गं नक्षत्राणां गतिं तथा। शैलराजो वृणोत्येष विन्ध्यः क्रोधवशानुगः ॥०३-१०२-८॥
sūryācandramasormārgaṃ nakṣatrāṇāṃ gatiṃ tathā। śailarājo vṛṇotyeṣa vindhyaḥ krodhavaśānugaḥ ॥03-102-8॥
[सूर्य (sūrya) - sun; चन्द्रमसोः (candramasoḥ) - (and) moon; मार्गं (mārgaṃ) - path; नक्षत्राणां (nakṣatrāṇām) - of stars; गतिं (gatiṃ) - motion; तथा (tathā) - also; शैलराजः (śailarājaḥ) - the king of mountains; वृणोति (vṛṇoti) - blocks; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; विन्ध्यः (vindhyaḥ) - Vindhya (mountain); क्रोधवशानुगः (krodhavaśānugaḥ) - impelled by anger;]
(Sun (and) moon path, of stars motion also, the king of mountains blocks, this Vindhya, impelled by anger.)
This Vindhya, the king of mountains, impelled by anger, blocks the path of the sun and moon and also the course of the stars. (03-102-8)
तं निवारयितुं शक्तो नान्यः कश्चिद्द्विजोत्तम। ऋते त्वां हि महाभाग तस्मादेनं निवारय ॥०३-१०२-९॥
taṃ nivārayituṃ śakto nānyaḥ kaścid dvijottama। ṛte tvāṃ hi mahābhāga tasmād enaṃ nivāraya ॥03-102-9॥
[तं (taṃ) - him; निवारयितुं (nivārayitum) - to restrain; (infinitive from ni + vāra + tum) शक्तः (śaktaḥ) - capable; न (na) - not; अन्यः (anyaḥ) - another; कश्चित् (kaścit) - any one; द्विजोत्तम (dvijottama) - O best of twice-born; ऋते (ṛte) - except; त्वां (tvām) - you; हि (hi) - indeed; महाभाग (mahābhāga) - O greatly fortunate one; तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; एनम् (enam) - him; निवारय (nivāraya) - (you) restrain;]
(Him to restrain capable not another anyone O best of twice-born; except you indeed O greatly fortunate one; therefore him restrain.)
No one else, O best of twice-born, is capable of restraining him except you, O greatly fortunate; therefore, restrain him. (3-102-9)

तच्छ्रुत्वा वचनं विप्रः सुराणां शैलमभ्यगात्। सोऽभिगम्याब्रवीद्विन्ध्यं सदारः समुपस्थितः ॥०३-१०२-१०॥
tacchrutvā vacanaṃ vipraḥ surāṇāṃ śailam abhyagāt। so'bhigamyābravīd vindhyaṃ sadāraḥ samupasthitaḥ॥03-102-10॥
[तत् (tat) - that; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; वचनम् (vacanam) - speech; विप्रः (vipraḥ) - brāhmaṇa; सुराणाम् (surāṇām) - of the gods; शैलम् (śailam) - mountain; अभ्यगात् (abhyagāt) - he approached; सः (saḥ) - he; अभिगम्य (abhigamya) - having approached; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - he spoke; विन्ध्यम् (vindhyam) - Vindhya; स-दारः (sa-dāraḥ) - with wife; समुपस्थितः (samupasthitaḥ) - present;]
(That having heard the speech, the brāhmaṇa of the gods approached the mountain. He, having approached Vindhya with (his) wife, spoke, being present.)
Having heard that speech, the brāhmaṇa of the gods went to the mountain. Present there with his wife, he addressed Vindhya. (03-102-10)
मार्गमिच्छाम्यहं दत्तं भवता पर्वतोत्तम। दक्षिणामभिगन्तास्मि दिशं कार्येण केनचित् ॥०३-१०२-११॥
mārgam icchāmy ahaṃ dattaṃ bhavatā parvatottama. dakṣiṇām abhigantāsmi diśaṃ kāryeṇa kenacit ॥03-102-11॥
[मार्गम् (mārgam) - path; इच्छामि (icchāmi) - I desire; अहं (ahaṃ) - I; दत्तम् (dattam) - given; भवता (bhavatā) - by you; पर्वतोत्तम (parvatottama) - O best of mountains; दक्षिणाम् (dakṣiṇām) - southern; अभिगन्तास्मि (abhigantāsmi) - I am about to approach; दिशम् (diśam) - direction; कार्येण (kāryeṇa) - for a purpose; केनचित् (kenacit) - with some;]
(Path I desire, O best of mountains, given by you. To the southern direction I am about to approach, for a purpose, with some.)
O best of mountains, I seek a path given by you. I am about to go south for a certain purpose. (03-102-11)
यावदागमनं मह्यं तावत्त्वं प्रतिपालय। निवृत्ते मयि शैलेन्द्र ततो वर्धस्व कामतः ॥०३-१०२-१२॥
yāvadāgamanaṃ mahyaṃ tāvattvaṃ pratipālaya। nivṛtte mayi śailendra tato vardhasva kāmataḥ ॥03-102-12॥
[यावत् (yāvat) - as long as; until; so long as; आगमनम् (āgamanam) - arrival; coming; मम (mahyaṃ) - to me; for me; तावत् (tāvat) - so long; meanwhile; त्वम् (tvaṃ) - you; प्रतिपालय (pratipālaya) - protect; take care; निवृत्ते (nivṛtte) - having returned; when I have come back; मयि (mayi) - I; in me; शैलेन्द्र (śailendra) - O lord of mountains; ततः (tataḥ) - then; thereafter; वर्धस्व (vardhasva) - increase; grow; कामतः (kāmataḥ) - as you wish; at will;]
(As long as (my) arrival (does not happen), for me, so long, you protect. When I have returned, O lord of mountains, then increase as you wish.)
Until I return, protect (things) for me; O lord of mountains, when I have come back, then grow as you desire. (03-102-12)
एवं स समयं कृत्वा विन्ध्येनामित्रकर्शन। अद्यापि दक्षिणाद्देशाद्वारुणिर्न निवर्तते ॥०३-१०२-१३॥
evaṁ sa samayaṁ kṛtvā vindhyenāmitrakarśana। adyāpi dakṣiṇād deśād vāruṇir na nivartate ॥03-102-13॥
[एवं (evaṁ) - thus; स (sa) - he; समयं (samayam) - period; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having done; विन्ध्येन (vindhyena) - by Vindhya; अमित्रकर्शन (amitrakarśana) - enemy-oppressor; अद्यापि (adyāpi) - even today; दक्षिणात् (dakṣiṇāt) - from the south; देशात् (deśāt) - from the land; वारुणिः (vāruṇiḥ) - Varuṇi (son of Varuṇa); न (na) - not; निवर्तते (nivartate) - returns;]
(Thus he, having set that period by Vindhya the enemy-oppressor, even today from the southern land Varuṇi does not return.)
Thus, having set that period by Vindhya, the oppressor of enemies, even today Varuni does not return from the southern land. (03-102-13)
एतत्ते सर्वमाख्यातं यथा विन्ध्यो न वर्धते। अगस्त्यस्य प्रभावेन यन्मां त्वं परिपृच्छसि ॥०३-१०२-१४॥
etat te sarvam ākhyātam yathā vindhyaḥ na vardhate। agastyasya prabhāvena yan māṃ tvaṃ paripṛcchasi॥03-102-14॥
[एतत् (etat) - this; ते (te) - to you; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; आख्यातम् (ākhyātam) - has been told; यथा (yathā) - as; विन्ध्यः (vindhyaḥ) - Vindhya (mountain); न (na) - not; वर्धते (vardhate) - grows; अगस्त्यस्य (agastyasya) - of Agastya; प्रभावेन (prabhāvena) - by the power; यत् (yat) - which; माम् (mām) - me; त्वम् (tvaṃ) - you; परिपृच्छसि (paripṛcchasi) - fully ask;]
(This to you all has been told, as Vindhya not grows by Agastya's power, which me you fully ask.)
I have told you all this—that by the power of Agastya, the Vindhya does not grow—as you asked me. (03-102-14)
कालेयास्तु यथा राजन्सुरैः सर्वैर्निषूदिताः। अगस्त्याद्वरमासाद्य तन्मे निगदतः शृणु ॥०३-१०२-१५॥
kāleyāstu yathā rājan suraiḥ sarvair niṣūditāḥ। agastyād varam āsādya tan me nigadataḥ śṛṇu॥03-102-15॥
[कालेयाः (kāleyāḥ) - the Kāleyas; (descendants of Kālī; a class of Dānavas); तु (tu) - but; यथा (yathā) - as; in the manner; राजन् (rājan) - O king; सुरैः (suraiḥ) - by the gods; सर्वैः (sarvaiḥ) - by all; निषूदिताः (niṣūditāḥ) - destroyed; slain; अगस्त्यात् (agastyāt) - from Agastya (sage Agastya); वरम् (varam) - boon; आसाद्य (āsādya) - having obtained; having secured; तत् (tat) - that; मे (me) - to me; निगदतः (nigadataḥ) - while narrating; as I relate; शृणु (śṛṇu) - listen;]
(But as the Kāleyas, O king, were destroyed by all the gods, having obtained a boon from Agastya, that (I) to me, as I narrate, listen.)
O king, the Kāleyas, having been destroyed by all the gods, obtained a boon from Agastya; now listen as I narrate that to you. (03-102-15)
त्रिदशानां वचः श्रुत्वा मैत्रावरुणिरब्रवीत्। किमर्थमभियाताः स्थ वरं मत्तः किमिच्छथ ॥ एवमुक्तास्ततस्तेन देवास्तं मुनिमब्रुवन् ॥०३-१०२-१६॥
tridaśānāṃ vacaḥ śrutvā maitrāvaruṇir abravīt। kimartham abhiyātāḥ stha varaṃ mattaḥ kim icchatha ॥ evam uktās tataḥ tena devās taṃ munim abruvan ॥03-102-16॥
[त्रिदशानां (tridaśānām) - of the gods; वचः (vacaḥ) - speech; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; मैत्रावरुणिः (maitrāvaruṇiḥ) - the son of Mitrā and Varuṇa; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke; किमर्थम् (kimartham) - for what purpose; अभियाताः (abhiyātāḥ) - come (you all); स्थ (stha) - are; वरम् (varam) - boon; मत्तः (mattaḥ) - from me; किम् (kim) - what; इच्छथ (icchatha) - do you desire; एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्ताः (uktāḥ) - addressed; ततः (tataḥ) - thereafter; तेन (tena) - by him; देवाः (devāḥ) - the gods; तम् (tam) - that; मुनिम् (munim) - sage; अब्रुवन् (abruvan) - spoke;]
(Having heard the speech of the gods, the son of Mitrā and Varuṇa spoke: For what purpose have you come, what boon do you wish from me? Thus addressed thereafter by him, the gods spoke to that sage.)
Hearing the words of the gods, the son of Mitrā and Varuṇa spoke: "For what reason have you come? What boon do you desire from me?" Thus addressed by him, the gods then spoke to that sage. (03-102-16)
एवं त्वयेच्छाम कृतं महर्षे; महार्णवं पीयमानं महात्मन्। ततो वधिष्याम सहानुबन्धा; न्कालेयसञ्ज्ञान्सुरविद्विषस्तान् ॥०३-१०२-१७॥
evaṃ tvayecchāma kṛtaṃ maharṣe; mahārṇavaṃ pīyamānaṃ mahātman. tato vadhiṣyāma sahānubandhā; nkāleyasañjñānsuravidviṣastān ॥03-102-17॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; इच्छाम (icchāma) - wish; कृतं (kṛtaṃ) - done; महर्षे (maharṣe) - O great sage; महा-अर्णवं (mahā-arṇavam) - great ocean; पीयमानं (pīyamānaṃ) - being drunk; महात्मन् (mahātman) - O high-souled one; ततः (tataḥ) - then; वधिष्याम (vadhiṣyāma) - we shall slay; सह-अनुबन्धान् (saha-anubandhān) - together with their associates; कालेय-सञ्ज्ञान् (kāleya-saṃjñān) - bearing the name Kālīya; सुर-विव्दिषस् (sura-vidviṣas) - haters of the gods; तान् (tān) - them;]
(Thus, by you, wish, done, O great sage; great ocean, being drunk, O high-souled one; then, we shall slay, together with their associates, those bearing the name Kālīya, haters of the gods, them.)
Thus, O great sage, this act you wished for has been accomplished; O high-souled one, as the great ocean is being consumed, then we shall slay, together with their associates, those called Kālīya, haters of the gods. (03-102-17)
त्रिदशानां वचः श्रुत्वा तथेति मुनिरब्रवीत्। करिष्ये भवतां कामं लोकानां च महत्सुखम् ॥०३-१०२-१८॥
tridaśānāṃ vacaḥ śrutvā tatheti munirabravīt। kariṣye bhavatāṃ kāmaṃ lokānāṃ ca mahatsukham॥03-102-18॥

(Having heard the speech of the thirty gods, the sage said, "So be it." I will do your wish and the great happiness of the worlds.)
After hearing the words of the gods, the sage said, "So be it." I will fulfill your desire and bring great happiness to the worlds. (03-102-18)
एवमुक्त्वा ततोऽगच्छत्समुद्रं सरितां पतिम्। ऋषिभिश्च तपःसिद्धैः सार्धं देवैश्च सुव्रतः ॥०३-१०२-१९॥
evam uktvā tato 'gacchat samudraṃ saritāṃ patim। ṛṣibhiś ca tapaḥsiddhaiḥ sārdhaṃ devaiś ca suvrataḥ॥03-102-19॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having said; ततः (tataḥ) - then; अगच्छत् (agacchat) - he went; समुद्रं (samudram) - ocean; सरितां (saritām) - of rivers; पतिम् (patim) - lord; ऋषिभिः (ṛṣibhiḥ) - with sages; च (ca) - and; तपःसिद्धैः (tapaḥsiddhaiḥ) - by those accomplished in asceticism; सार्धं (sārdham) - together with; देवैः (devaiḥ) - with the gods; च (ca) - and; सुव्रतः (suvrataḥ) - the one of auspicious vows;]
(Thus having said, then he went to the ocean, the lord of rivers, together with the sages and those accomplished in asceticism, and with the gods, the one of auspicious vows.)
Having thus spoken, the one of auspicious vows then went to the ocean, lord of rivers, together with the sages, those accomplished in asceticism, and the gods. (03-102-19)
मनुष्योरगगन्धर्वयक्षकिम्पुरुषास्तथा। अनुजग्मुर्महात्मानं द्रष्टुकामास्तदद्भुतम् ॥०३-१०२-२०॥
manuṣyoragagandharvayakṣakimpuruṣāstathā। anujagmurmahātmānaṃ draṣṭukāmāstadadbhutam ॥03-102-20॥
[मनुष्य (manuṣya) - humans; उरग (uraga) - serpents; गन्धर्व (gandharva) - gandharvas; यक्ष (yakṣa) - yakṣas; किम्पुरुष (kimpuruṣa) - kimpuruṣas; तथा (tathā) - also; अनुजग्मुः (anujagmuḥ) - (they) followed; महात्मानम् (mahātmānam) - the great-souled one; द्रष्टुकामाः (draṣṭukāmāḥ) - desiring to see; तत् (tat) - that; अद्भुतम् (adbhutam) - wonderful (one);]
(Humans, serpents, gandharvas, yakṣas, kimpuruṣas also (they) followed the great-souled one, desiring to see that wonderful (one).)

tato'bhyagacchansahitāḥ samudraṃ bhīmanisvanam। nṛtyantamiva cormi-bhirvalgantamiva vāyunā ॥03-102-21॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; अभ्यगच्छन् (abhyagacchan) - they approached; सहिताः (sahitāḥ) - together; समुद्रं (samudram) - the ocean; भीम-निस्वनम् (bhīma-nisvanam) - terrifying-sounding; नृत्यन्तम्-इव (nṛtyantam-iva) - as if dancing; च (ca) - and; ऊर्मिभिः (ūrmibhiḥ) - with waves; वल्गन्तम्-इव (valgantam-iva) - as if leaping; वायुना (vāyunā) - by the wind;]
(Then they approached together the ocean, terrifying-sounding, as if dancing with waves and as if leaping by the wind.)

हसन्तमिव फेनौघैः स्खलन्तं कन्दरेषु च। नानाग्राहसमाकीर्णं नानाद्विजगणायुतम् ॥०३-१०२-२२॥

(Smiling as if with masses of foam, tumbling in the caves and filled with various crocodiles, abounding with various flocks of birds.)

अगस्त्यसहिता देवाः सगन्धर्वमहोरगाः। ऋषयश्च महाभागाः समासेदुर्महोदधिम् ॥०३-१०२-२३॥

[अगस्त्यसहिता (agastyasahitā) - accompanied by Agastya; देवाः (devāḥ) - the gods; सगन्धर्वमहोरगाः (sa-gandharva-mahoragāḥ) - along with Gandharvas and great serpents; ऋषयः (ṛṣayaḥ) - the seers; च (ca) - and; महाभागाः (mahābhāgāḥ) - most fortunate; समासेदुः (samāseduḥ) - approached; महोदधिम् (mahodadhim) - the great ocean;]
(Accompanied by Agastya, the gods, along with Gandharvas and great serpents, the most fortunate seers also, approached the great ocean.)
The gods, Gandharvas, great serpents, and the illustrious sages, together with Agastya, all approached the vast ocean. (03-102-23)
