ततः श्रुत्वा तु शर्यातिर्वयःस्थं च्यवनं कृतम्। संहृष्टः सेनया सार्धमुपायाद्भार्गवाश्रमम् ॥०३-१२४-१॥
tataḥ śrutvā tu śaryātir vayaḥ-sthaṃ cyavanaṃ kṛtam। saṃhṛṣṭaḥ senayā sārdham upāyād bhārgavāśramam ॥03-124-1॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; श्रुत्वा (śrutvā) - having heard; तु (tu) - but; शर्यातिः (śaryātiḥ) - Śaryāti; वयःस्थं (vayaḥ-stham) - aged; च्यवनं (cyavanam) - Cyavana; कृतम् (kṛtam) - restored; संहृष्टः (saṃhṛṣṭaḥ) - delighted; सेनया (senayā) - with (his) army; सार्धम् (sārdham) - together (with); उपायात् (upāyāt) - approached; भार्गवाश्रमम् (bhārgavāśramam) - Bhārgava's hermitage;]
(Then having heard, but Śaryāti, the aged Cyavana restored, delighted, with the army together, approached Bhārgava's hermitage.)
Then, having heard that the aged Cyavana was restored, Śaryāti, delighted, together with his army, approached the hermitage of Bhārgava. (03-124-1)
च्यवनं च सुकन्यां च दृष्ट्वा देवसुताविव। रेमे महीपः शर्यातिः कृत्स्नां प्राप्य महीमिव ॥०३-१२४-२॥
cyavanaṃ ca sukanyāṃ ca dṛṣṭvā devasutāviva। reme mahīpaḥ śaryātiḥ kṛtsnāṃ prāpya mahīmiva ॥03-124-2॥
[च्यवनं (cyavanaṃ) - Cyavana (a proper name); च (ca) - and; सुकन्यां (sukanyāṃ) - Sukanyā (a proper name, accusative singular); च (ca) - and; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; देवसुताविव (devasutāviva) - like children of the gods; रेमे (reme) - he rejoiced; महीपः (mahīpaḥ) - the king; शर्यातिः (śaryātiḥ) - Śaryāti (a proper name, subject); कृत्स्नां (kṛtsnām) - entire; प्राप्य (prāpya) - having obtained; महीमिव (mahīmiva) - like the earth;]
(Cyavana and Sukanyā and having seen, like children of the gods, rejoiced the king Śaryāti, entire having obtained, like the earth.)
Having seen Cyavana and Sukanyā looking like children of the gods, King Śaryāti rejoiced as if he had gained possession of the entire earth. (03-124-2)
ऋषिणा सत्कृतस्तेन सभार्यः पृथिवीपतिः। उपोपविष्टः कल्याणीः कथाश्चक्रे महामनाः ॥०३-१२४-३॥
ṛṣiṇā satkṛtastenā sabhāryaḥ pṛthivīpatiḥ. upopaviṣṭaḥ kalyāṇīḥ kathāścakre mahāmanāḥ ॥03-124-3॥

(By the sage honored by him, with his wife, the king, having sat near, auspicious stories made, great-minded.)
Honored by the sage, the king, together with his wife, sat nearby, and the great-minded one engaged in auspicious conversation. (03-124-3)
अथैनं भार्गवो राजन्नुवाच परिसान्त्वयन्। याजयिष्यामि राजंस्त्वां सम्भारानुपकल्पय ॥०३-१२४-४॥
athainaṃ bhārgavo rājannuvāca parisantvayan। yājayiṣyāmi rājaṃstvāṃ sambhārānupakalpaya ॥03-124-4॥
[अथ (atha) - then; एनम् (enam) - him; भार्गवः (bhārgavaḥ) - Bhārgava (descendant of Bhṛgu); राजन् (rājan) - O king; उवाच (uvāca) - said; परिसान्त्वयन् (parisantvayan) - soothing (him); याजयिष्यामि (yājayiṣyāmi) - I will have performed a sacrifice (for); राजन् (rājan) - O king; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; सम्भारान् (sambhārān) - materials (for sacrifice); उपकल्पय (upakalpaya) - arrange;]
(Then Bhārgava, O king, soothing him, said: "I will have a sacrifice performed for you, O king; arrange the materials." (03-124-4))
Then Bhārgava, soothing him, said, "O king, I will perform a sacrifice for you; arrange the materials." (03-124-4)
ततः परमसंहृष्टः शर्यातिः पृथिवीपतिः। च्यवनस्य महाराज तद्वाक्यं प्रत्यपूजयत् ॥०३-१२४-५॥
tataḥ paramasaṁhṛṣṭaḥ śaryātiḥ pṛthivīpatiḥ। cyavanasya mahārāja tadvākyaṁ pratyapūjayat॥03-124-5॥

(Then exceedingly delighted, Śaryāti, lord of the earth, O great king, that speech of Cyavana honored in return.)
Then Śaryāti, the lord of the earth, was exceedingly delighted, O great king, and he duly honored the words of Cyavana. (03-124-5)
प्रशस्तेऽहनि यज्ञीये सर्वकामसमृद्धिमत्। कारयामास शर्यातिर्यज्ञायतनमुत्तमम् ॥०३-१२४-६॥
praśaste'hani yajñīye sarvakāmasamṛddhimat। kārayāmāsa śaryātiryajñāyatanamuttamam ॥03-124-6॥
[प्रशस्तेऽहनि (praśaste 'hani) - on an auspicious day; यज्ञीये (yajñīye) - suitable for a sacrifice; सर्वकामसमृद्धिमत् (sarvakāmasamṛddhimat) - endowed with all desired prosperity; कारयामास (kārayāmāsa) - caused to be made; शर्यातिः (śaryātiḥ) - Śaryāti (proper noun, king’s name); यज्ञायतनम् (yajñāyatanam) - sacrificial place; उत्तमम् (uttamam) - excellent;]
(On an auspicious day suitable for sacrifice, endowed with all desired prosperity, Śaryāti caused the excellent sacrificial place to be made.)
Śaryāti had an excellent sacrificial place, endowed with all desired prosperity, constructed on an auspicious day suitable for sacrifice. (03-124-6)
तत्रैनं च्यवनो राजन्याजयामास भार्गवः। अद्भुतानि च तत्रासन्यानि तानि निबोध मे ॥०३-१२४-७॥
tatrainaṃ cyavano rājanyājayāmāsa bhārgavaḥ। adbhutāni ca tatrāsanyāni tāni nibodha me ॥03-124-7॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; एनम् (enam) - him; च्यवनः (cyavanaḥ) - Cyavana; राजन् (rājan) - O King; याजयामास (yājayāmāsa) - caused to perform sacrifice; भार्गवः (bhārgavaḥ) - the descendant of Bhṛgu; (i.e., Cyavana); अद्भुतानि (adbhutāni) - wondrous things; च (ca) - and; तत्र (tatra) - there; आसन् (āsan) - were; यानि (yāni) - which; तानि (tāni) - those; निबोध (nibodha) - know (imperative); मे (me) - from me;]
(There him Cyavana O King caused to perform sacrifice, the descendant of Bhṛgu. And wondrous things there were, which those know from me.)
There, Cyavana, the Bhārgava, caused him, O King, to perform the sacrifice. And wondrous things occurred there; listen to those from me. (03-124-7)
अगृह्णाच्च्यवनः सोममश्विनोर्देवयोस्तदा। तमिन्द्रो वारयामास गृह्यमाणं तयोर्ग्रहम् ॥०३-१२४-८॥
agṛhṇāccyavanaḥ somamaśvinordevayostadā. tamindro vārayāmāsa gṛhyamāṇaṃ tayorgrham ॥03-124-8॥
[अगृह्णात् (agṛhṇāt) - he seized; he took; च्यवनः (cyavanaḥ) - Cyavana; (proper noun; sage's name); सोमम् (somam) - Soma (sacrificial drink); अश्विनोः (aśvinoḥ) - of the two Aśvins; (dual genitive); देवयोः (devayoḥ) - of the two gods; (dual genitive); तदा (tadā) - then; at that time; तम् (tam) - that; him; इन्द्रः (indraḥ) - Indra; वारयामास (vārayāmāsa) - prevented; restrained; गृह्यमाणम् (gṛhyamāṇam) - being taken; being seized; तयोः (tayoḥ) - by the two; of the two; ग्रहम् (graham) - cup; vessel for Soma;]
(Cyavana seized Soma of the two Aśvin gods then. That Indra restrained, the cup being taken by the two.)
Then Cyavana took the Soma for the two god Aśvins. Indra prevented that cup, as it was being accepted by the two. (03-124-8)
इन्द्र उवाच॥

Indra said;
उभावेतौ न सोमार्हौ नासत्याविति मे मतिः। भिषजौ देवपुत्राणां कर्मणा नैवमर्हतः ॥०३-१२४-९॥
ubhāvetau na somārhau nāsatyāviti me matiḥ। bhiṣajau devaputrāṇāṃ karmaṇā naivamarhataḥ ॥03-124-9॥
[उभौ (ubhāu) - both; एतौ (etau) - these; न (na) - not; सोम-अर्हौ (soma-arhau) - worthy of soma; नासत्यौ (nāsatyau) - Aśvin twins; इति (iti) - thus; मे (me) - my; मतिः (matiḥ) - opinion; भिषजौ (bhiṣajau) - physicians; देवपुत्राणाम् (devaputrāṇām) - of the sons of gods; कर्मणा (karmaṇā) - by deed; न (na) - not; एवम् (evam) - thus; अर्हतः (arhataḥ) - worthy;]
(Both these are not worthy of soma, (namely) the Nāsatyas — thus is my opinion. As physicians of the sons of gods, by (their) deed, they are not thus worthy.)
It is my opinion that both these, the Nāsatyas, are not worthy of soma; as physicians of the gods' sons, they are not worthy by such deed. (03-124-9)
च्यवन उवाच॥

मावमंस्था महात्मानौ रूपद्रविणवत्तरौ। यौ चक्रतुर्मां मघवन्वृन्दारकमिवाजरम् ॥०३-१२४-१०॥
mā vamaṁsthā mahātmānau rūpadraviṇavattarau। yau cakratur māṁ maghavan vṛndārakam iva ajaram ॥03-124-10॥
[मावमंस्था (mā avamaṁsthā) - do not think little of; do not disdain; महात्मानौ (mahātmānau) - the two great-souled (persons); रूपद्रविणवत्तरौ (rūpadraviṇavattarau) - more excellent in beauty and wealth; यौ (yau) - who both; चक्रतु (cakratuḥ) - made; मां (mām) - me; मघवन् (maghavan) - O Maghavan (Indra); वृन्दारकम् (vṛndārakam) - basil (plant); इव (iva) - like; अजरम् (ajaram) - imperishable;]
(Do not think little of the two great-souled, more excellent in beauty and wealth, who both made me, O Maghavan, like the basil plant imperishable.)
Do not disdain those two noble ones, most excellent in appearance and wealth, who made me, O Maghavan, imperishable like the holy basil. (03-124-10)
ऋते त्वां विबुधांश्चान्यान्कथं वै नार्हतः सवम्। अश्विनावपि देवेन्द्र देवौ विद्धि पुरंदर ॥०३-१२४-११॥
ṛte tvāṃ vibudhāṃś cānyān kathaṃ vai nārhataḥ savam। aśvināv api devendra devau viddhi puraṃdara ॥03-124-11॥
[ऋते (ṛte) - apart from; without; त्वां (tvāṃ) - you; (accusative singular); विबुधान् (vibudhān) - gods; wise ones; च (ca) - and; अन्यान् (anyān) - other; (accusative plural); कथं (kathaṃ) - how; वै (vai) - indeed; न (na) - not; अर्हतः (arhataḥ) - are worthy; (third person dual); सवम् (savam) - sacrificial drink; soma libation; अश्विनौ (aśvinau) - the Aśvins; (dual nominative); अपि (api) - also; देवेंद्र (devendra) - O Indra; देवौ (devau) - the two gods; विद्धि (viddhi) - know; (imperative singular); पुरंदर (puraṃdara) - O Purandara; (another name of Indra);]
(Apart from you, and other gods, how indeed are not worthy of the soma, the Aśvins also, O Indra, know (them as) gods, O Purandara.)
Except for you and all other gods, how indeed are the Aśvins also not worthy of the soma? O Indra, know the Aśvins also to be gods, O Purandara. (03-124-11)

चिकित्सकौ कर्मकरौ कामरूपसमन्वितौ। लोके चरन्तौ मर्त्यानां कथं सोममिहार्हतः ॥०३-१२४-१२॥
cikitsakau karmakarau kāmarūpasamanvitau। loke carantau martyānāṃ kathaṃ somam ihārhataḥ ॥03-124-12॥
[चिकित्सकौ (cikitsakau) - two physicians; कर्मकरौ (karmakarau) - two workers; कामरूपसमन्वितौ (kāmarūpasamanvitau) - possessed of the power to assume any form at will; लोके (loke) - in the world; चरन्तौ (carantau) - moving about; मर्त्यानाम् (martyānām) - of mortals; कथम् (katham) - how; सोमम् (somam) - Soma (the sacred drink); इह (iha) - here; अर्हतः (arhataḥ) - do you deserve;]
(Two physicians, two workers, possessed of the power to assume any form at will, moving about in the world among mortals, how do you here deserve Soma?)
You two, being physicians and workers who can assume any form at will, wandering among mortals in this world—how do you deserve to receive Soma here? (03-124-12)

एतदेव यदा वाक्यमाम्रेडयति वासवः। अनादृत्य ततः शक्रं ग्रहं जग्राह भार्गवः ॥०३-१२४-१३॥
etadeva yadā vākyam āmreḍayati vāsavaḥ। anādṛtya tataḥ śakraṃ grahaṃ jagrāha bhārgavaḥ ॥03-124-13॥
[एतदेव (etadeva) - this only; यदा (yadā) - when; वाक्यम् (vākyam) - speech; आम्रेडयति (āmreḍayati) - utters repeatedly; वासवः (vāsavaḥ) - the Vasava (Indra); अनादृत्य (anādṛtya) - disregarding; ततः (tataḥ) - then; शक्रम् (śakram) - Shakra (Indra); ग्रहम् (graham) - by the hand; जग्राह (jagrāha) - seized; भार्गवः (bhārgavaḥ) - the Bhargava (descendant of Bhrigu);]
(This only, when speech repeats the Vasava, disregarding then Shakra, by the hand seized the Bhargava.)
When the Vasava (Indra) kept repeating this very speech, the Bhargava (descendant of Bhrigu), disregarding Shakra, then seized him by the hand. (03-124-13)
ग्रहीष्यन्तं तु तं सोममश्विनोरुत्तमं तदा। समीक्ष्य बलभिद्देव इदं वचनमब्रवीत् ॥०३-१२४-१४॥
grahīṣyantaṃ tu taṃ somam aśvinor uttamaṃ tadā। samīkṣya balabhid deva idaṃ vacanam abravīt ॥03-124-14॥
[ग्रहीष्यन्तं (grahīṣyantam) - being about to seize; about to take; about to grasp; तु (tu) - but; however; तं (taṃ) - that; सोमम् (somam) - Soma; the sacred drink; अश्विनोः (aśvinor) - of the two Aśvins; उत्तमं (uttamam) - best; highest; तदा (tadā) - then; at that time; समीक्ष्य (samīkṣya) - having observed; having seen; बलभित् (balabhid) - Indra; the slayer of Vritra; breaker of strength; देवः (devaḥ) - the god; इदम् (idam) - this; वचनम् (vacanam) - word; speech; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke; said;]
(But when that Soma, the best of the Aśvins, was about to be seized, then, having observed, Indra the god spoke this word.)
But as the best Soma of the two Aśvins was about to be seized, then Indra, the god and the slayer of Vritra, having noticed, spoke these words. (3-124-14)
आभ्यामर्थाय सोमं त्वं ग्रहीष्यसि यदि स्वयम्। वज्रं ते प्रहरिष्यामि घोररूपमनुत्तमम् ॥०३-१२४-१५॥
ābhyām arthāya somaṃ tvaṃ grahīṣyasi yadi svayam। vajraṃ te prahariṣyāmi ghorarūpam anuttamam ॥03-124-15॥
[आभ्याम् (ābhyām) - for the sake of these two; (dual, instrumental/ablative of 'ayam') अर्थाय (arthāya) - for the purpose; (dative of 'artha') सोमम् (somaṃ) - Soma; (accusative singular) त्वम् (tvaṃ) - you; ग्रहिष्यसि (grahīṣyasi) - will take; (future 2nd person singular, from 'grah') यदि (yadi) - if; स्वयम् (svayam) - by yourself; वज्रम् (vajram) - thunderbolt; ते (te) - to you; प्रहरिष्यामि (prahariṣyāmi) - I will strike; (future 1st person singular, from 'pra-√hṛ') घोररूपम् (ghorarūpam) - terrible form; अनुत्तमम् (anuttamam) - unsurpassed; (superlative);]
(For the sake of these two, for the purpose, Soma, you will take, if by yourself. The thunderbolt to you I will strike, of terrible and unsurpassed form.)
If you yourself seize the Soma for the sake of these two, I will strike you with a thunderbolt of terrible and unsurpassed form. (03-124-15)
एवमुक्तः स्मयन्निन्द्रमभिवीक्ष्य स भार्गवः। जग्राह विधिवत्सोममश्विभ्यामुत्तमं ग्रहम् ॥०३-१२४-१६॥
evam-uktaḥ smayan nindram abhi-vīkṣya sa bhārgavaḥ। jagrāha vidhivat somam aśvibhyām uttamaṃ graham ॥03-124-16॥
[एवमुक्तः (evam-uktaḥ) - thus addressed; स्मयन् (smayan) - smiling; इन्द्रम् (indram) - to Indra; अभिवीक्ष्य (abhi-vīkṣya) - having looked intently; स (sa) - he; भार्गवः (bhārgavaḥ) - Bhārgava (descendant of Bhṛgu); जग्राह (jagrāha) - he took; विधिवत् (vidhivat) - in due form; सोमम् (somam) - Soma (the sacrificial juice); अश्विभ्याम् (aśvibhyām) - for the two Aśvins; उत्तमं (uttamam) - the best; ग्रहम् (graham) - libation vessel; ०३-१२४-१६ (03-124-16) - (03-124-16);]
(Thus addressed, smiling, having looked at Indra, that Bhārgava took, in due form, soma for the two Aśvins, the best libation vessel.)
Thus, having been addressed, Bhārgava smiled and, having looked at Indra, duly took the best soma vessel for the Aśvin twins. (03-124-16)
ततोऽस्मै प्राहरद्वज्रं घोररूपं शचीपतिः। तस्य प्रहरतो बाहुं स्तम्भयामास भार्गवः ॥०३-१२४-१७॥
tato'smai prāharad vajraṃ ghorarūpaṃ śacīpatiḥ। tasya praharato bāhuṃ stambhayāmāsa bhārgavaḥ॥03-124-17॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; अस्मै (asmai) - to him; प्राहरत् (prāharat) - struck at; वज्रम् (vajram) - the thunderbolt; घोररूपम् (ghorarūpam) - of terrible form; शचीपतिः (śacīpatiḥ) - the lord of Śacī (Indra); तस्य (tasya) - his; प्रहरतः (praharataḥ) - as he was striking; बाहुम् (bāhum) - arm; स्तम्भयामास (stambhayāmāsa) - caused to be stopped; भार्गवः (bhārgavaḥ) - the descendant of Bhṛgu (Śukra or a Bhārgava);]
(Then to him, the lord of Śacī (Indra) struck the thunderbolt of terrible form. As he was striking, his arm was caused to be stopped by the Bhārgava.)
Then Indra, the lord of Śacī, hurled the terrible thunderbolt at him; but as he was striking, the Bhārgava (descendant of Bhṛgu) stopped his arm. (03-124-17)
संस्तम्भयित्वा च्यवनो जुहुवे मन्त्रतोऽनलम्। कृत्यार्थी सुमहातेजा देवं हिंसितुमुद्यतः ॥०३-१२४-१८॥
saṁstambhayitvā cyavano juhuve mantrato'nalam। kṛtyārthī sumahātejā devaṁ hiṁsitumudyataḥ ॥03-124-18॥
[संस्तम्भयित्वा (saṁstambhayitvā) - having stopped; च्यवनः (cyavanaḥ) - Cyavana (proper name); जुहुवे (juhuve) - offered (sacrificially); मन्त्रतः (mantrataḥ) - by mantra; अनलम् (analam) - fire; कृतार्थी (kṛtyārthī) - one who desired a specific act; सुमहातेजाः (sumahātejāḥ) - of great brilliance; देवम् (devam) - the god; हिंसितुम् (hiṁsitum) - to harm; उद्यतः (udyataḥ) - prepared;]
(Having stopped (it), Cyavana, desiring (to accomplish) his act, of great brilliance, by mantra, offered fire, (he who was) prepared to harm the god.)
Having restrained (the obstruction), Cyavana, possessed of immense energy and wishing to fulfill his purpose, offered fire by mantra, being ready to harm the god. (03-124-18)
ततः कृत्या समभवदृषेस्तस्य तपोबलात्। मदो नाम महावीर्यो बृहत्कायो महासुरः ॥ शरीरं यस्य निर्देष्टुमशक्यं तु सुरासुरैः ॥०३-१२४-१९॥
tataḥ kṛtyā samabhavad ṛṣes tasya tapobalāt। mado nāma mahāvīryo bṛhatkāyo mahāsuraḥ ॥ śarīraṃ yasya nirdiṣṭum aśakyaṃ tu surāsuraiḥ ॥03-124-19॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; कृत्या (kṛtyā) - a supernatural being (kṛtyā); समभवद् (samabhavad) - arose; ऋषेः (ṛṣeḥ) - of (that) sage; तस्य (tasya) - his; तपःबलात् (tapo-balāt) - by (the) power of penance; मदः (madaḥ) - Mada (name); नाम (nāma) - by name; महावीर्यः (mahāvīryaḥ) - of great might; बृहत्कायः (bṛhatkāyaḥ) - huge-bodied; महासुरः (mahāsuraḥ) - great asura (demon); शरीरं (śarīram) - body; यस्म (yasya) - whose; निर्देष्टुम् (nirdiṣṭum) - to describe; अशक्यम् (aśakyam) - impossible; तु (tu) - but; सुरासुरैः (surāsuraiḥ) - by gods and asuras;]

tasyāsyam abhavad ghoram tīkṣṇāgra-daśanam mahat। hanur-ekā sthitā tasya bhūmau ekā divaṃ gatā ॥03-124-20॥

[चतस्र (catasra) - four; आयता (āyatā) - long; दंष्ट्रा (daṃṣṭrā) - fangs; योजनानां (yojanānāṃ) - of yojanas; शतं (śataṃ) - hundred; शतम् (śatam) - hundred; इतरे (itare) - the others; तु (tu) - but; अस्य (asya) - its; दशना (daśanā) - teeth; बभूवुः (babhūvuḥ) - became; दश (daśa) - ten; योजनाः (yojanāḥ) - yojanas; प्राकारसदृशाकाराः (prākārasadṛśākārāḥ) - having the form like a rampart; शूलाग्रसमदर्शनाः (śūlāgrasamadarśanāḥ) - appearing like a spear-point;]
(Four long fangs of hundreds of yojanas, the others, but its teeth, became of ten yojanas; having forms like a rampart, appearing like a spear-point.)
It had four long fangs, each a hundred yojanas in length, while the other teeth became ten yojanas each; they had forms like a rampart, appearing like spear-points. (03-124-21)
बाहू पर्वतसङ्काशावायतावयुतं समौ। नेत्रे रविशशिप्रख्ये वक्त्रमन्तकसंनिभम् ॥०३-१२४-२२॥
bāhū parvata-saṅkāśā-āyata-āvayutaṃ samau। netre ravi-śaśi-prakhye vaktram antaka-saṃnibham ॥03-124-22॥
[बाहू (bāhū) - arms; पर्वतसङ्काशौ (parvata-saṅkāśau) - mountain-like; आयतावयुतं (āyata-āvayutam) - long and fitted; समौ (samau) - both; नेत्रे (netre) - eyes; रविशशिप्रख्ये (ravi-śaśi-prakhye) - sun and moon-like; वक्त्रम् (vaktram) - face; अन्तकसंनिभम् (antaka-saṃnibham) - like Yama;]

His two arms, resembling mountains, were long and well proportioned; his eyes were like the sun and the moon; his face was like that of Yama. (03-124-22)
लेलिहञ्जिह्वया वक्त्रं विद्युच्चपललोलया। व्यात्ताननो घोरदृष्टिर्ग्रसन्निव जगद्बलात् ॥०३-१२४-२३॥
lelihañjihvayā vaktraṃ vidyuc-capala-lolayā। vyāttānano ghoradṛṣṭir grasann iva jagad-balāt॥03-124-23॥
[लेलिहन्-जिह्वया (lelihan-jihvayā) - with a licking tongue; वक्त्रं (vaktram) - mouth; विद्युत्-चपल-लोलया (vidyut-capala-lolayā) - agitated and moving like flickering lightning; व्यात्त-आननः (vyātta-ānanaḥ) - with a wide-open mouth; घोर-दृष्टिः (ghora-dṛṣṭiḥ) - with terrible gaze; ग्रसन्-इव (grasan-iva) - as if devouring; जगत्-बलात् (jagat-balāt) - the world by force;]
(With a licking tongue, mouth agitated like flickering lightning, with a wide-open mouth and a terrible gaze, as if devouring the world by force.)
His mouth, with a licking tongue restless as flickering lightning, wide open, and with a terrible gaze, appeared as if he were forcibly devouring the world. (03-124-23)
स भक्षयिष्यन्सङ्क्रुद्धः शतक्रतुमुपाद्रवत्। महता घोररूपेण लोकाञ्शब्देन नादयन् ॥०३-१२४-२४॥
sa bhakṣayiṣyan saṅkruddhaḥ śatakratum upādravat| mahatā ghorarūpeṇa lokāñ śabdena nādayan ॥03-124-24॥
[स (sa) - he; भक्षयिष्यन् (bhakṣayiṣyan) - about to devour; सङ्क्रुद्धः (saṅkruddhaḥ) - angry; शतक्रतुम् (śatakratum) - Indra; उपाद्रवत् (upādravat) - attacked; महत् (mahat) - great; घोररूपेण (ghorarūpeṇa) - with a terrible form; लोकान् (lokān) - worlds; शब्देन (śabdena) - with sound; नादयन् (nādayan) - resounding;]
(He, about to devour, angry, attacked Indra; with a great terrible form, resounding the worlds with sound.)
Angry and about to devour, he attacked Indra, making a terrible sound and causing the worlds to reverberate with his fearsome form. (03-124-24)
