O Bhārata, you have crossed the Uśīra seed, Maināka mountain, Śveta, and also, O son of Kuntī, the Kāla mountain, O king. (03-140-1)
एषा गङ्गा सप्तविधा राजते भरतर्षभ। स्थानं विरजसं रम्यं यत्राग्निर्नित्यमिध्यते ॥०३-१४०-२॥
eṣā gaṅgā saptavidhā rājate bharatarṣabha। sthānaṃ virajasaṃ ramyaṃ yatrāgnirnityamidhyate ॥03-140-2॥
[एषा (eṣā) - this (feminine); गङ्गा (gaṅgā) - Gaṅgā (the river); सप्तविधा (saptavidhā) - of seven forms; sevenfold; राजते (rājate) - shines; भरतर्षभ (bharatarṣabha) - O bull among the Bharatas; स्थानं (sthānaṃ) - place; विरजसं (virajasaṃ) - free from dust; pure; रम्यं (ramyaṃ) - pleasant; यत्र (yatra) - where; अग्निः (agniḥ) - fire; नित्यम् (nityam) - always; इध्यते (idhyate) - is kindled;]
(This Gaṅgā, sevenfold, shines, O bull among the Bharatas. The place, pure, pleasant, where fire is always kindled.)

एतद्वै मानुषेणाद्य न शक्यं द्रष्टुमप्युत। समाधिं कुरुताव्यग्रास्तीर्थान्येतानि द्रक्ष्यथ ॥०३-१४०-३॥
etadvai mānuṣeṇādya na śakyaṃ draṣṭumapyuta. samādhiṃ kurutāvyagrāstīrthānyetāni drakṣyatha ॥03-140-3॥
[एतत् (etat) - this; वै (vai) - indeed; मानुषेण (mānuṣeṇa) - by a human; अद्य (adya) - today; न (na) - not; शक्यम् (śakyam) - possible; द्रष्टुम् (draṣṭum) - to see; अपि (api) - even; उत (uta) - indeed; समाधिम् (samādhim) - concentration; कुरुत (kuruta) - you (plural) do; अव्यग्राः (avyagrāḥ) - not distracted; तीर्थानि (tīrthāni) - holy places; एतानि (etāni) - these; द्रक्ष्यथ (drakṣyatha) - you (plural) will see;]
(This indeed by a human today not possible to see even indeed. Concentration do (you all), not distracted, holy places these you (all) will see.)
This, indeed, cannot be seen by a human today. Practice concentration without distraction, and you will see these holy places. (3-140-3)
श्वेतं गिरिं प्रवेक्ष्यामो मन्दरं चैव पर्वतम्। यत्र माणिचरो यक्षः कुबेरश्चापि यक्षराट् ॥०३-१४०-४॥
śvetaṃ giriṃ pravekṣyāmo mandaraṃ caiva parvatam। yatra māṇicaro yakṣaḥ kuberaścāpi yakṣarāṭ ॥03-140-4॥

(White mountain we shall enter, Mandara and indeed mountain; where Maṇicara Yakṣa, Kubera and also king of Yakṣas.)
We shall enter the White Mountain, and also Mandara mountain, where the Yakṣa Maṇicara and Kubera, the king of the Yakṣas, reside. (03-140-4)
अष्टाशीतिसहस्राणि गन्धर्वाः शीघ्रचारिणः। तथा किम्पुरुषा राजन्यक्षाश्चैव चतुर्गुणाः ॥०३-१४०-५॥
aṣṭāśītisahasrāṇi gandharvāḥ śīghracāriṇaḥ। tathā kimpuruṣā rājanya kṣāś caiva caturguṇāḥ॥03-140-5॥
[अष्टाशीतिसहस्राणि (aṣṭāśītisahasrāṇi) - eighty-eight thousand; गन्धर्वाः (gandharvāḥ) - Gandharvas; शीघ्रचारिणः (śīghracāriṇaḥ) - swift-moving; तथा (tathā) - likewise; किम्पुरुषाः (kimpuruṣāḥ) - Kimpuruṣas; राजन्य (rājanya) - O King; क्षकाः (kṣāḥ) - Yakṣas; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; चतुर्गुणाः (caturguṇāḥ) - four times (as many);]
(Eighty-eight thousand Gandharvas, swift-moving; likewise, Kimpuruṣas, O King, Yakṣas also indeed, four times (as many).)
There are eighty-eight thousand swift-moving Gandharvas; likewise, O King, the Kimpuruṣas and Yakṣas are four times as many. (03-140-5)
अनेकरूपसंस्थाना नानाप्रहरणाश्च ते। यक्षेन्द्रं मनुजश्रेष्ठ माणिभद्रमुपासते ॥०३-१४०-६॥
anekarūpasaṃsthānā nānāpraharaṇāś ca te। yakṣendraṃ manujaśreṣṭha māṇibhadram upāsate ॥03-140-6॥
[अनेक-रूप-संस्थाना (aneka-rūpa-saṃsthānā) - having various forms; नाना-प्रहरणाः (nānā-praharaṇāḥ) - having various weapons; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - they; यक्षेन्द्रम् (yakṣendram) - the lord of yakṣas; मनुज-श्रेष्ठ (manuja-śreṣṭha) - O best of men; माणिभद्रम् (māṇibhadram) - Māṇibhadra; उपासते (upāsate) - worship;]
(Having various forms, having various weapons, and they, the lord of yakṣas, O best of men, Māṇibhadra, worship.)
O best of men, they of many forms and bearing various weapons worship Māṇibhadra, the lord of the yakṣas. (03-140-6)
तेषामृद्धिरतीवाग्र्या गतौ वायुसमाश्च ते। स्थानात्प्रच्यावयेयुर्ये देवराजमपि ध्रुवम् ॥०३-१४०-७॥
teṣām ṛddhir atīva āgryā gatau vāyusamāś ca te। sthānāt pracyāvayeyur ye devarājam api dhruvam॥03-140-7॥
[तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; ऋद्धिः (ṛddhiḥ) - prosperity; अतीव (atīva) - exceedingly; आग्रा (āgryā) - extreme; गतौ (gatau) - in speed; वायुसमाः (vāyusamāḥ) - equal to wind; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - they; स्थानात् (sthānāt) - from (his) position; प्रच्यावयेयुः (pracyāvayeyuḥ) - would shake; ये (ye) - who; देवराजम् (devarājam) - the king of the gods; अपि (api) - even; ध्रुवम् (dhruvam) - steadfast;]
(Of them, prosperity exceedingly extreme, in speed equal to wind, and they, from (his) position, would shake, who the king of the gods even steadfast.)
Their prosperity is exceedingly great, they are as swift as the wind, and they are those who could even shake the steadfast king of the gods from his position. (03-140-7)
तैस्तात बलिभिर्गुप्ता यातुधानैश्च रक्षिताः। दुर्गमाः पर्वताः पार्थ समाधिं परमं कुरु ॥०३-१४०-८॥
tais tāta balibhir guptā yātudhānaiś ca rakṣitāḥ। durgamāḥ parvatāḥ pārtha samādhiṃ paramaṃ kuru॥03-140-8॥
[तैः (taiḥ) - by those; तात (tāta) - O dear one; बलिभिः (balibhiḥ) - by the powerful ones; गुप्ता (guptā) - protected; यातुधानैः (yātudhānaiḥ) - by yātudhānas (demons); च (ca) - and; रक्षिताः (rakṣitāḥ) - guarded; दुर्गमाः (durgamāḥ) - difficult to access; पर्वताः (parvatāḥ) - mountains; पार्थ (pārtha) - O Pārtha; समाधिं (samādhiṃ) - concentration; परमं (paramaṃ) - supreme; कुरु (kuru) - do;]
(By those, O dear one, by the powerful ones protected, by yātudhānas and guarded, difficult to access mountains, O Pārtha, supreme concentration do.)
O Pārtha, these mountains, difficult to access, are protected by powerful beings and guarded by yātudhānas; therefore, dear one, maintain the highest concentration. (03-140-8)
कुबेरसचिवाश्चान्ये रौद्रा मैत्राश्च राक्षसाः। तैः समेष्याम कौन्तेय यत्तो विक्रमणे भव ॥०३-१४०-९॥
kuberasacivāś cānye raudrā maitrāś ca rākṣasāḥ. taiḥ sameṣyāma kaunteya yatto vikramaṇe bhava ॥03-140-9॥
[कुबेरसचिवाः (kuberasacivāḥ) - Kubera's attendants;, च (ca) - and;, अन्ये (anye) - others;, रौद्राः (raudrāḥ) - fierce;, मैत्राः (maitrāḥ) - friendly;, च (ca) - and;, राक्षसाः (rākṣasāḥ) - rākṣasas;, तैः (taiḥ) - with them;, समेष्याम (sameṣyāma) - I will join battle;, कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - son of Kuntī;, यत्तः (yattaḥ) - prepared;, विक्रमणे (vikramaṇe) - for charging;, भव (bhava) - be;,;]
(Kubera's attendants and others, fierce and friendly Rākṣasas, with them I will join battle, O son of Kuntī; being prepared for charging, be.)
Kubera's attendants, as well as other fierce and friendly Rākṣasas, I will join battle with them, O son of Kuntī; be prepared to charge. (03-140-9)
कैलासः पर्वतो राजन्षड्योजनशतान्युत। यत्र देवाः समायान्ति विशाला यत्र भारत ॥०३-१४०-१०॥
kailāsaḥ parvato rājan ṣaḍyojanaśatānyuta। yatra devāḥ samāyānti viśālā yatra bhārata॥ 03-140-10॥
[कैलासः (kailāsaḥ) - Kailāsa; पर्वतः (parvataḥ) - mountain; राजन् (rājan) - O king; षट् (ṣaṭ) - six; योजनशतानि (yojanaśatāni) - hundreds of yojanas; उत (uta) - indeed; यत्र (yatra) - where; देवाः (devāḥ) - gods; समायान्ति (samāyānti) - assemble; विशाला (viśālā) - extensive; यत्र (yatra) - where; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata;]
(Kailāsa mountain, O king, (is) of six hundred yojanas indeed; where gods assemble, extensive, where O Bhārata.)
O king, Kailāsa mountain is indeed six hundred yojanas in extent; it is the place where the gods assemble, O Bhārata. (03-140-10)
असङ्ख्येयास्तु कौन्तेय यक्षराक्षसकिंनराः। नागाः सुपर्णा गन्धर्वाः कुबेरसदनं प्रति ॥०३-१४०-११॥
asaṅkhyeyāstu kaunteya yakṣarākṣasakiṃnarāḥ। nāgāḥ suparṇā gandharvāḥ kuberasadanaṃ prati ॥03-140-11॥
[असङ्ख्येयाः (asaṅkhyeyāḥ) - innumerable; तु (tu) - but; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - O son of Kunti; यक्षराक्षसकिंनराः (yakṣa-rākṣasa-kiṃnarāḥ) - yakṣas, rākṣasas and kiṃnaras; नागाः (nägāḥ) - nāgas; सुपर्णा (suparṇā) - garuḍas (divine birds); गन्धर्वाः (gandharvāḥ) - gandharvas; कुबेरसदनं (kubera-sadanaṃ) - abode of Kubera; प्रति (prati) - towards;]
(Innumerable but O son of Kunti, yakṣas, rākṣasas, kiṃnaras, nāgas, suparṇas, gandharvas, towards the abode of Kubera.)
But, O son of Kunti, innumerable yakṣas, rākṣasas, kiṃnaras, nāgas, suparṇas, and gandharvas proceeded towards Kubera's abode. (03-140-11)
तान्विगाहस्व पार्थाद्य तपसा च दमेन च। रक्ष्यमाणो मया राजन्भीमसेनबलेन च ॥०३-१४०-१२॥
tān vigāhasva pārtha adya tapasā ca damena ca। rakṣyamāṇaḥ mayā rājan bhīmasena-balena ca॥03-140-12॥
[तान् (tān) - them; विगाहस्व (vigāhasva) - enter into; पार्थ (pārtha) - O son of Pṛthā; अद्य (adya) - today; तपसा (tapasā) - by austerity; च (ca) - and; दमेन (damena) - by self-control; च (ca) - and; रक्ष्यमाणः (rakṣyamāṇaḥ) - being protected; मया (mayā) - by me; राजन् (rājan) - O king; भीमसेनबलेन (bhīmasena-balena) - by the strength of Bhīmasena; च (ca) - and;]
(Them enter into, O Pārtha, today by austerity and by self-control and, being protected by me, O king, and by the strength of Bhīmasena.)

स्वस्ति ते वरुणो राजा यमश्च समितिञ्जयः। गङ्गा च यमुना चैव पर्वतश्च दधातु ते ॥०३-१४०-१३॥
svasti te varuṇo rājā yamaś ca samitiñjayaḥ। gaṅgā ca yamunā caiva parvataś ca dadhātu te॥03-140-13॥
[स्वस्ति (svasti) - well-being; ते (te) - to you; वरुणः (varuṇaḥ) - Varuṇa; राजा (rājā) - king; यमः (yamaḥ) - Yama; च (ca) - and; समितिञ्जयः (samitiñjayaḥ) - conqueror of assemblies (battles); गङ्गा (gaṅgā) - Gaṅgā; च (ca) - and; यमुना (yamunā) - Yamunā; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; पर्वतः (parvataḥ) - mountain; च (ca) - and; दधातु (dadhātu) - may place; ते (te) - for you;]
(Well-being to you Varuṇa king Yama and conqueror of assemblies Gaṅgā and Yamunā and indeed mountain and may place for you.)
May well-being be to you; may King Varuṇa, Yama, the conqueror of assemblies, Gaṅgā, Yamunā, and the mountain, indeed, bestow (well-being) upon you. (03-140-13)
इन्द्रस्य जाम्बूनदपर्वताग्रे; शृणोमि घोषं तव देवि गङ्गे। गोपाययेमं सुभगे गिरिभ्यः; सर्वाजमीढापचितं नरेन्द्रम् ॥ भवस्व शर्म प्रविविक्षतोऽस्य; शैलानिमाञ्शैलसुते नृपस्य ॥०३-१४०-१४॥
indrasya jāmbūnada-parvatāgre; śṛṇomi ghoṣaṃ tava devi gaṅge। gopāya yemam subhage giribhyaḥ; sarva-ajamīḍha-apacitaṃ narendram ॥ bhavasva śarma pravivikṣataḥ asya; śailān imān śailasute nṛpasya ॥03-140-14॥

(Of Indra, on the summit of the golden mountain, I hear the sound, your, O goddess, Ganga. Protect this one, O fortunate one, from the mountains, the king respected by all descendants of Ajamīḍha. Be protection for the one desiring to cross these mountains, O daughter of the mountain, of the king. (03-140-14))
O Ganga, goddess, I hear your sound on the summit of Indra's golden mountain. O fortunate one, protect this king, respected by all descendants of Ajamīḍha, from the mountains. Become the safeguard for this king, who wants to cross these mountains, O daughter of the mountain. (03-140-14)

अपूर्वोऽयं सम्भ्रमो लोमशस्य; कृष्णां सर्वे रक्षत मा प्रमादम्। देशो ह्ययं दुर्गतमो मतोऽस्य; तस्मात्परं शौचमिहाचरध्वम् ॥०३-१४०-१५॥
apūrvo'yaṁ sambhramo lomaśasya; kṛṣṇāṁ sarve rakṣata mā pramādam. deśo hyayaṁ durgatamo mato'sya; tasmātparaṁ śaucam ihācaradhvam ॥03-140-15॥

tato'bravīdbhīmamudāravīryaṁ; kṛṣṇāṁ yattaḥ pālaya bhīmasena. śūnye'rjune'saṁnihite ca tāta; tvameva kṛṣṇāṁ bhajase'sukheṣu ॥03-140-16॥

(Then spoke to Bhīma of noble strength; Kṛṣṇā you steadfast protect, O Bhīmasena. When Arjuna is not present and the place is empty, dear one; you alone attend to Kṛṣṇā in adversities.)
Then, one spoke to the mighty Bhīma: 'O Bhīmasena, steadfastly protect Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī). When Arjuna is absent and the place is empty, dear one, you alone care for Kṛṣṇā in times of adversity.' (03-140-16)
ततो महात्मा यमजौ समेत्य; मूर्धन्युपाघ्राय विमृज्य गात्रे। उवाच तौ बाष्पकलं स राजा; मा भैष्टमागच्छतमप्रमत्तौ ॥०३-१४०-१७॥
tato mahātmā yamajau sametya; mūrdhany upāghrāya vimṛjya gātre. uvāca tau bāṣpakalaṁ sa rājā; mā bhaiṣṭam āgacchatam apramattau ॥03-140-17॥

(Then the great-souled one, having come to the two sons of Yama, having smelled their heads and wiped (their) limbs, said to those two, full of tears, he the king: "Do not be afraid, come vigilant." (03-140-17))
Then the great-souled king, coming to the two sons of Yama, affectionately smelled their heads, wiped their limbs, and, seeing them full of tears, said: "Do not be afraid, come here attentively." (03-140-17)
