तस्यां रजन्यां व्युष्टायां धर्मराजो युधिष्ठिरः। उत्थायावश्यकार्याणि कृतवान्भ्रतृभिः सह ॥०३-१७२-१॥
tasyāṃ rajanyāṃ vyuṣṭāyāṃ dharmarājo yudhiṣṭhiraḥ। utthāyāvaśyakāryāṇi kṛtavānbhratṛbhiḥ saha ॥03-172-1॥
[तस्यां (tasyāṃ) - in that; (locative, feminine, singular); रजन्यां (rajanyāṃ) - night; (locative, feminine, singular); व्युष्टायां (vyuṣṭāyāṃ) - having dawned; (locative, feminine, singular); धर्मराजः (dharmarājaḥ) - Dharmarāja; (epithet of Yudhiṣṭhira); युधिष्ठिरः (yudhiṣṭhiraḥ) - Yudhiṣṭhira; (proper noun); उत्थाय (utthāya) - having arisen; (absolutive); आवश्यककार्याणि (āvaśyakāryāṇi) - necessary tasks; (accusative, plural, neuter); कृतवान् (kṛtavān) - had done; (masculine, singular, perfect participle); भ्रतृभिः (bhratṛbhiḥ) - with brothers; (instrumental, plural, masculine); सह (saha) - together; (indeclinable);]
(In that night, having dawned, Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira, having arisen, had done necessary tasks together with brothers.)
When that night had passed and dawn had come, Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira arose and, together with his brothers, completed the necessary tasks. (03-172-1)
ततः सञ्चोदयामास सोऽर्जुनं भ्रातृनन्दनम्। दर्शयास्त्राणि कौन्तेय यैर्जिता दानवास्त्वया ॥०३-१७२-२॥
tataḥ sañcodayām āsa so'rjunaṃ bhrātṛ-nandanam। darśayāstrāṇi kaunteya yair jitā dānavās tvayā॥03-172-2॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; सञ्चोदयामास (sañcodayām āsa) - incited; सः (saḥ) - he; अर्जुनम् (arjunam) - Arjuna; भ्रातृनन्दनम् (bhrātṛ-nandanam) - delighter of his brothers; दर्शय (darśaya) - show; अस्त्राणि (astrāṇi) - weapons; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - son of Kunti; यैः (yaiḥ) - by which; जिताः (jitāḥ) - conquered; दानवाः (dānavāḥ) - Danavas; त्वया (tvayā) - by you;]
(Then he incited Arjuna, delighter of his brothers: "Show the weapons, Kaunteya, by which the Danavas were conquered by you." (03-172-2))
Then he urged Arjuna, the delight of his brothers: "Show the weapons, O son of Kunti, by which you conquered the Danavas." (03-172-2)
ततो धनञ्जयो राजन्देवैर्दत्तानि पाण्डवः। अस्त्राणि तानि दिव्यानि दर्शयामास भारत ॥०३-१७२-३॥
tato dhanañjayo rājan devair dattāni pāṇḍavaḥ। astrāṇi tāni divyāni darśayāmāsa bhārata ॥03-172-3॥

(Then Dhanañjaya, O king, the Pāṇḍava, the weapons given by the gods, those divine ones, showed, O Bhārata.)
Then Dhananjaya, son of Pandu, O king, showed those divine weapons given by the gods, O Bharata. (03-172-3)
यथान्यायं महातेजाः शौचं परममास्थितः। गिरिकूबरं पादपाङ्गं शुभवेणु त्रिवेणुकम् ॥ पार्थिवं रथमास्थाय शोभमानो धनञ्जयः ॥०३-१७२-४॥
yathānyāyaṃ mahātejāḥ śaucaṃ paramam āsthitaḥ। girikūbaraṃ pādapāṅgaṃ śubhaveṇu triveṇukam ॥ pārthivaṃ ratham āsthāya śobhamāno dhanañjayaḥ ॥03-172-4॥
[यथा अन्यायम् (yathā anyāyam) - as is proper; according to rules; महातेजाः (mahātejāḥ) - of great energy; शौचम् (śaucam) - purity; परमम् (paramam) - supreme; आस्थितः (āsthitaḥ) - having adopted; having observed; गिरिकूबरम् (girikūbaram) - mountain cave; पादप-अङ्गम् (pādapa-aṅgam) - tree limb; tree branch; शुभ वेणु (śubha veṇu) - auspicious bamboo; त्रिवेणुकम् (triveṇukam) - three-jointed reed; having three knots; पार्थिवम् (pārthivam) - earthly; royal; रथम् (ratham) - chariot; आस्थाय (āsthāya) - having mounted; शोभमानः (śobhamānaḥ) - shining; appearing splendid; धनञ्जयः (dhanañjayaḥ) - Dhananjaya (Arjuna);]
(As is proper, the great-energied, embracing supreme purity, mountain cave, tree branch, auspicious bamboo, three-jointed, having mounted the earthly chariot, shining, Dhananjaya.)
Dhananjaya (Arjuna), possessing great energy and supreme purity as is proper, having mounted the royal chariot with decorations of mountain caves, tree branches, auspicious bamboo, and three-jointed reeds, shone brightly. (03-172-4)
ततः सुदंशितस्तेन कवचेन सुवर्चसा। धनुरादाय गाण्डीवं देवदत्तं च वारिजम् ॥०३-१७२-५॥
tataḥ sudaṁśitastena kavacena suvarcasā। dhanur-ādāya gāṇḍīvaṁ devadattaṁ ca vārijam ॥03-172-5॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; सुदंशितः (sudaṁśitaḥ) - well-protected; तेन (tena) - by that; कवचेन (kavacena) - with armor; सुवर्चसा (suvarcasā) - with shining splendor; धनुः (dhanuḥ) - bow; आदाय (ādāya) - having taken; गाण्डीवं (gāṇḍīvam) - Gandiva (the bow); देवदत्तं (devadattaṁ) - Devadatta (the conch); च (ca) - and; वारिजम् (vārijam) - Lotus (another name for Devadatta or possibly a quiver);]
(Then, well-protected by that armor with shining splendor, having taken the bow Gandiva, Devadatta and the lotus.)
Then, well-protected by that splendid armor, he took up the Gandiva bow, the Devadatta conch, and the lotus. (03-172-5)
शोशुभ्यमानः कौन्तेय आनुपूर्व्यान्महाभुजः। अस्त्राणि तानि दिव्यानि दर्शनायोपचक्रमे ॥०३-१७२-६॥
śośubhyamānaḥ kaunteya ānupūrvayān mahābhujaḥ. astrāṇi tāni divyāni darśanāya upacakrame ॥03-172-6॥
[शोशुभ्यमानः (śośubhyamānaḥ) - shining forth; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - Kunti’s son; आनुपूर्व्यात् (ānupūrvyāt) - in order; महाभुजः (mahābhujaḥ) - mighty-armed; अस्त्राणि (astrāṇi) - weapons; तानि (tāni) - those; दिव्यानि (divyāni) - divine; दर्शनाय (darśanāya) - for showing; उपचक्रमे (upacakrame) - he began;]
(Shining forth, Kunti’s son, in order, the mighty-armed, those weapons, divine, for showing, he began.)
Kunti’s son, the mighty-armed one, shining forth, began to display those divine weapons one by one for all to see. (03-172-6)
अथ प्रयोक्ष्यमाणेन दिव्यान्यस्त्राणि तेन वै। समाक्रान्ता मही पद्भ्यां समकम्पत सद्रुमा ॥०३-१७२-७॥
atha prayokṣyamāṇena divyānyastrāṇi tena vai। samākrāntā mahī padbhyāṃ samakampata sadrumā ॥03-172-7॥
[अथ (atha) - then; प्रयोक्ष्यमाणेन (prayokṣyamāṇena) - being wielded; दिव्यानि (divyāni) - divine; अस्त्राणि (astrāṇi) - weapons; तेन (tena) - by him; वै (vai) - indeed; समाक्रान्ता (samākrāntā) - traversed; मही (mahī) - earth; पद्भ्यां (padbhyāṃ) - with (his) feet; समकम्पत् (samakampat) - trembled; सद्रुमा (sadrumā) - with trees; ॥०३-१७२-७॥ (॥03-172-7॥) -;]
(Then, as the divine weapons were being wielded by him indeed, the earth, traversed by his feet, with its trees, trembled.)

क्षुभिताः सरितश्चैव तथैव च महोदधिः। शैलाश्चापि व्यशीर्यन्त न ववौ च समीरणः ॥०३-१७२-८॥
kṣubhitāḥ saritaś caiva tathaiva ca mahodadhiḥ। śailāś cāpi vyaśīryanta na vavau ca samīraṇaḥ॥03-172-8॥
[क्षुभिताः (kṣubhitāḥ) - agitated; सरितः (saritaḥ) - rivers; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; तथैव (tathaiva) - likewise; च (ca) - and; महोदधिः (mahodadhiḥ) - the great ocean; शैलाः (śailāḥ) - mountains; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; व्यशीर्यन्त (vyaśīryanta) - were shattered; न (na) - not; ववौ (vavau) - blew; च (ca) - and; समीरणः (samīraṇaḥ) - wind;]
(Agitated rivers indeed and likewise the great ocean; mountains also were shattered; not blew and the wind.)
The rivers were agitated, and likewise the great ocean; the mountains were also shattered, and the wind did not blow. (03-172-8)
न बभासे सहस्रांशुर्न जज्वाल च पावकः। न वेदाः प्रतिभान्ति स्म द्विजातीनां कथञ्चन ॥०३-१७२-९॥
na babhāse sahasrāṃśur na jajvāla ca pāvakaḥ. na vedāḥ pratibhānti sma dvijātīnām kathañcana ॥03-172-9॥
[न (na) - not; बभासे (babhāse) - shone; सहस्रांशुः (sahasrāṃśuḥ) - the thousand-rayed (the Sun); न (na) - not; जज्वाल (jajvāla) - blazed; च (ca) - and; पावकः (pāvakaḥ) - fire; न (na) - not; वेदाः (vedāḥ) - the Vedas; प्रतिभान्ति (pratibhānti) - become manifest; स्म (sma) - indeed; द्विजातीनाम् (dvijātīnām) - of twice-born ones (brahmins, etc.); कथञ्चन (kathañcana) - at all;]
(Not shone the thousand-rayed (the Sun), not blazed and fire; not the Vedas become manifest indeed for the twice-born ones at all.)
The Sun did not shine, fire did not blaze, and the Vedas did not appear at all to the twice-born (brahmins, etc.). (03-172-9)
अन्तर्भूमिगता ये च प्राणिनो जनमेजय। पीड्यमानाः समुत्थाय पाण्डवं पर्यवारयन् ॥०३-१७२-१०॥
antarbhūmigatā ye ca prāṇino janamejaya। pīḍyamānāḥ samutthāya pāṇḍavaṃ paryavārayan ॥03-172-10॥
[अन्तर्भूमिगता (antarbhūmigatā) - who had gone beneath the earth; ये (ye) - who; च (ca) - and; प्राणिनः (prāṇinaḥ) - living beings; जनमेजय (janamejaya) - O Janamejaya; पीड्यमानाः (pīḍyamānāḥ) - being afflicted; समुत्थाय (samutthāya) - having risen up; पाण्डवम् (pāṇḍavam) - (to) the son of Pāṇḍu; पर्यवारयन् (paryavārayan) - they surrounded;]
(Who had gone beneath the earth, who, and living beings, O Janamejaya, being afflicted, having risen up, the son of Pāṇḍu, they surrounded.)
O Janamejaya, the living beings who had gone beneath the earth, being afflicted, rose up and surrounded the son of Pāṇḍu. (03-172-10)
वेपमानाः प्राञ्जलयस्ते सर्वे पिहिताननाः। दह्यमानास्तदास्त्रैस्तैर्याचन्ति स्म धनञ्जयम् ॥०३-१७२-११॥
vepamānāḥ prāñjalayas te sarve pihitānanāḥ। dahyamānās tad-āstrais tair yāchanti sma dhanañjayam॥03-172-11॥
[वेपमानाः (vepamānāḥ) - trembling; प्राञ्जलयः (prāñjalayaḥ) - with folded hands; ते (te) - they; सर्वे (sarve) - all; पिहिताननाः (pihitānanāḥ) - with covered faces; दह्यमानाः (dahyamānāḥ) - being burned; तदास्त्रैः (tad-āstraiḥ) - by those weapons; तैः (taiḥ) - by them; याचन्ति (yāchanti) - beg; स्म (sma) - [past marker]; धनञ्जयम् (dhanañjayam) - Dhanañjaya (Arjuna);]
(Trembling, with folded hands, they all, with covered faces, being burned by those weapons by them, begged indeed Dhanañjaya.)

ततो ब्रह्मर्षयश्चैव सिद्धाश्चैव सुरर्षयः। जङ्गमानि च भूतानि सर्वाण्येवावतस्थिरे ॥०३-१७२-१२॥
tato brahmarṣayaś caiva siddhāś caiva surarṣayaḥ। jaṅgamāni ca bhūtāni sarvāṇy evāvatasthire ॥03-172-12॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; ब्रह्मर्षयः (brahmarṣayaḥ) - Brahmarshis; (sages among Brahman; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; सिद्धाः (siddhāḥ) - perfected beings; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; सुरर्षयः (surarṣayaḥ) - divine sages; जङ्गमानि (jaṅgamāni) - moving (creatures); च (ca) - and; भूतानि (bhūtāni) - beings; सर्वाणि (sarvāṇi) - all; एव (eva) - indeed; अवतस्थिरे (avatastire) - stood;]
(Then Brahmarshis and indeed Siddhas and indeed divine sages, and moving creatures and beings, all indeed stood.)
Then the Brahmarshis, Siddhas, divine sages, and all moving beings and creatures stood there. (03-172-12)
राजर्षयश्च प्रवरास्तथैव च दिवौकसः। यक्षराक्षसगन्धर्वास्तथैव च पतत्रिणः ॥०३-१७२-१३॥
rājarṣayaś ca pravarās tathaiva ca divaukasaḥ। yakṣa-rākṣasa-gandharvās tathaiva ca patatriṇaḥ॥03-172-13॥
[राजर्षयः (rājarṣayaḥ) - royal sages; च (ca) - and; प्रवराः (pravarāḥ) - the foremost; तथैव (tathaiva) - just so; likewise; च (ca) - and; दिवौकसः (divaukasaḥ) - the dwellers in heaven; gods; यक्ष (yakṣa) - Yakṣas; राक्षस (rākṣasa) - Rākṣasas; गन्धर्वाः (gandharvāḥ) - Gandharvas; तथैव (tathaiva) - just so; likewise; च (ca) - and; पतत्रिणः (patatriṇaḥ) - the winged ones; birds;]
(Royal sages and the foremost ones, likewise and the dwellers in heaven; Yakṣas, Rākṣasas, Gandharvas, likewise and the winged ones.)
Royal sages and the foremost lords, likewise the gods; Yakṣas, Rākṣasas, Gandharvas, and likewise the winged beings (birds). (03-172-13)
ततः पितामहश्चैव लोकपालाश्च सर्वशः। भगवांश्च महादेवः सगणोऽभ्याययौ तदा ॥०३-१७२-१४॥
tataḥ pitāmahaś caiva lokapālāś ca sarvaśaḥ। bhagavāṃś ca mahādevaḥ sagaṇo 'bhyāyayau tadā ॥03-172-14॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; पितामहः (pitāmahaḥ) - Grandfather (Brahmā); च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; लोकपालाः (lokapālāḥ) - guardians of the worlds; च (ca) - and; सर्वशः (sarvaśaḥ) - completely; in all ways; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the illustrious; च (ca) - and; महादेवः (mahādevaḥ) - Mahādeva; सगणः (sagaṇaḥ) - with his attendants; अभ्याययौ (abhyāyayau) - approached; तदा (tadā) - then;]
(Then Grandfather (Brahmā) and indeed the guardians of the worlds and in every way the illustrious Mahādeva with his attendants approached then.)
Then Brahmā, the guardians of the worlds in all directions, and the illustrious Mahādeva with his attendants approached at that time. (03-172-14)
ततो वायुर्महाराज दिव्यैर्माल्यैः सुगन्धिभिः। अभितः पाण्डवांश्चित्रैरवचक्रे समन्ततः ॥०३-१७२-१५॥
tato vāyurmahārāja divyairmālyaiḥ sugandhibhiḥ। abhitaḥ pāṇḍavāṁścitrairavacakre samantataḥ॥03-172-15॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; वायुः (vāyuḥ) - the Wind; महाराज (mahārāja) - O great king; दिव्यैः (divyaiḥ) - with divine; माल्यैः (mālyaiḥ) - garlands; सुगन्धिभिः (sugandhibhiḥ) - fragrant; अभितः (abhitaḥ) - around; पाण्डवान् (pāṇḍavān) - the Pāṇḍavas; चित्रैः (citraiḥ) - varied; अवचक्रे (avacakre) - covered; समन्ततः (samantataḥ) - on all sides;]
(Then the Wind, O great king, with divine garlands fragrant, around the Pāṇḍavas, with varied (ones), covered on all sides.)
Then the Wind, O great king, covered the Pāṇḍavas all around on every side with divinely fragrant and varied garlands. (03-172-15)
जगुश्च गाथा विविधा गन्धर्वाः सुरचोदिताः। ननृतुः सङ्घशश्चैव राजन्नप्सरसां गणाः ॥०३-१७२-१६॥
jaguś ca gāthā vividhā gandharvāḥ sura-coditāḥ। nanṛtuḥ saṅghaśaś caiva rājann apsarasāṃ gaṇāḥ॥03-172-16॥
[जगुश्च (jaguḥ ca) - they sang and; गाथा (gāthāḥ) - songs; विविधा (vividhāḥ) - various; गन्धर्वाः (gandharvāḥ) - the Gandharvas; सुरचोदिताः (sura-coditāḥ) - prompted by the gods; ननृतुः (nanṛtuḥ) - danced; सङ्घशश्चैव (saṅghaśaś ca eva) - groups also indeed; राजन् (rājan) - O King; अप्सरसां (apsarasām) - of the Apsarases; गणाः (gaṇāḥ) - companies;]
(And the Gandharvas, prompted by the gods, sang various songs; also, O King, the companies of Apsarases, in groups, danced.)
The Gandharvas, inspired by the gods, sang various songs, and, O King, the groups of Apsarases danced together. (03-172-16)
तस्मिंस्तु तुमुले काले नारदः सुरचोदितः। आगम्याह वचः पार्थं श्रवणीयमिदं नृप ॥०३-१७२-१७॥
tasmiṁstu tumule kāle nāradaḥ suracoditaḥ। āgamya aha vacaḥ pārthaṁ śravaṇīyam idaṁ nṛpa ॥03-172-17॥
[तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that; तु (tu) - but; तुमुले (tumule) - violent; tumultuous; काले (kāle) - time; नारदः (nāradaḥ) - Nārada (the sage); सुरचोदितः (suracoditaḥ) - impelled by the gods; आगम्य (āgamya) - having come; आह (āha) - spoke; वचः (vacaḥ) - words; पार्थम् (pārtham) - to Pārtha (Arjuna); श्रवणीयम् (śravaṇīyam) - to be heard; इदं (idaṁ) - this; नृप (nṛpa) - O king;]
(But in that violent time, Nārada, impelled by the gods, having come, spoke these words to Pārtha, this to be heard, O king.)
But at that tumultuous time, Nārada, urged by the gods, approached and spoke these words for Arjuna to hear, O king. (03-172-17)
अर्जुनार्जुन मा युङ्क्ष्व दिव्यान्यस्त्राणि भारत। नैतानि निरधिष्ठाने प्रयुज्यन्ते कदाचन ॥०३-१७२-१८॥
arjunārjuna mā yuṅkṣva divyānyastrāṇi bhārata। naitāni niradhiṣṭhāne prayujyante kadācana ॥03-172-18॥
[अर्जुनार्जुन (arjunārjuna) - O Arjuna, Arjuna; मा (mā) - do not; युङ्क्ष्व (yuṅkṣva) - employ; दिव्यानि (divyāni) - divine; अस्त्राणि (astrāṇi) - weapons; भारत (bhārata) - O descendent of Bharata; न (na) - not; एतानि (etāni) - these; निरधिष्ठाने (niradhiṣṭhāne) - without proper foundation (without due cause); प्रयुज्यन्ते (prayujyante) - are used (should be employed); कदाचन (kadācana) - ever; at any time;]
(Arjuna Arjuna, do not employ divine weapons, O Bhārata. Not these without proper foundation are used ever.)
Arjuna, Arjuna, do not employ the divine weapons, O Bhārata. These are never to be used without proper cause. (03-172-18)
अधिष्ठाने न वानार्तः प्रयुञ्जीत कदाचन। प्रयोगे सुमहान्दोषो ह्यस्त्राणां कुरुनन्दन ॥०३-१७२-१९॥
adhiṣṭhāne na vā nārtaḥ prayuñjīta kadācana। prayoge sumahāndoṣo hyastrāṇāṃ kurunandana ॥03-172-19॥
[अधिष्ठाने (adhiṣṭhāne) - in the (proper) application; न (na) - not; वा (vā) - or; नार्तः (nārtaḥ) - one in distress; प्रयुञ्जीत (prayuñjīta) - should use; कदाचन (kadācana) - ever; प्रयोगे (prayoge) - in improper use; सुमहान् (sumahān) - very great; दोषः (doṣaḥ) - fault; हि (hi) - indeed; अस्त्राणां (astrāṇām) - of weapons; कुरुनन्दन (kurunandana) - O delight of the Kurus;]
(In the proper application, not or one in distress should use ever; in improper use, very great fault indeed of weapons, O delight of the Kurus.)
O delight of the Kurus, one in distress should never use weapons except for their proper application; for in improper use, there is indeed a very great fault. (03-172-19)
एतानि रक्ष्यमाणानि धनञ्जय यथागमम्। बलवन्ति सुखार्हाणि भविष्यन्ति न संशयः ॥०३-१७२-२०॥
etāni rakṣyamāṇāni dhanañjaya yathāgamam। balavanti sukhārhāṇi bhaviṣyanti na saṁśayaḥ॥03-172-20॥
[एतानि (etāni) - these; रक्ष्यमाणानि (rakṣyamāṇāni) - being protected; धनञ्जय (dhanañjaya) - Dhananjaya (Arjuna); यथा (yathā) - according to; आगमम् (āgamam) - custom; बलवन्ति (balavanti) - strong; सुखार्हाणि (sukhārhāṇi) - worthy of happiness; भविष्यन्ति (bhaviṣyanti) - will become; न (na) - not; संशयः (saṁśayaḥ) - doubt;]
(These being protected, O Dhananjaya, according to tradition, strong, worthy of happiness, will become, not doubt.)
O Dhananjaya, if these are protected according to established custom, they will surely become strong and worthy of happiness; there is no doubt about it. (03-172-20)
अरक्ष्यमाणान्येतानि त्रैलोक्यस्यापि पाण्डव। भवन्ति स्म विनाशाय मैवं भूयः कृथाः क्वचित् ॥०३-१७२-२१॥
arakṣyamāṇāny etāni trailokyasyāpi pāṇḍava। bhavanti sma vināśāya maivaṃ bhūyaḥ kṛthāḥ kvacit ॥03-172-21॥
[अरक्ष्यमाणानि (arakṣyamāṇāni) - not being protected; एतानि (etāni) - these; त्रैलोक्यस्य (trailokyasya) - of the three worlds; अपि (api) - even; पाण्डव (pāṇḍava) - O son of Pāṇḍu; भवन्ति (bhavanti) - they become; स्म (sma) - indeed; विनाशाय (vināśāya) - for destruction; मा (mā) - do not; एवं (evaṃ) - thus; भूयः (bhūyaḥ) - again; कृथाः (kṛthāḥ) - you do; क्वचित् (kvacit) - at any time;]
(Not being protected, these, even of the three worlds, O son of Pāṇḍu, indeed become for destruction; do not thus again do at any time.)
O son of Pāṇḍu, these things, if left unprotected, bring about the destruction even of the three worlds; therefore, never act thus again at any time. (03-172-21)
अजातशत्रो त्वं चैव द्रक्ष्यसे तानि संयुगे। योज्यमानानि पार्थेन द्विषतामवमर्दने ॥०३-१७२-२२॥
ajātaśatro tvaṃ caiva drakṣyase tāni saṃyuge। yojyamānāni pārthena dviṣatāmavamardane॥03-172-22॥
[अजातशत्रो (ajātaśatro) - O Ajātaśatru (one whose enemies are not born, epithet of Yudhiṣṭhira); त्वं (tvaṃ) - you; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; द्रक्ष्यसे (drakṣyase) - you will see; तानि (tāni) - those (things/objects); संयुगे (saṃyuge) - in battle; योज्यमानानि (yojyamānāni) - being employed/set in motion; पार्थेन (pārthena) - by Pārtha (Arjuna); द्विषताम् (dviṣatām) - of the enemies; अवमर्दने (avamardane) - for overwhelming/oppressing;]
(O Ajātaśatru, you indeed will see those in battle, being employed by Pārtha for overwhelming the enemies.)
O Ajātaśatru, you will see those (weapons/actions) being employed by Arjuna in battle for the destruction of the enemies. (03-172-22)
निवार्याथ ततः पार्थं सर्वे देवा यथागतम्। जग्मुरन्ये च ये तत्र समाजग्मुर्नरर्षभ ॥०३-१७२-२३॥
nivāryātha tataḥ pārthaṃ sarve devā yathāgatam। jagmur anye ca ye tatra samājagmur nararṣabha ॥03-172-23॥
[निवार्याथ (nivārya atha) - having restrained; then; ततः (tataḥ) - thereafter; पार्थं (pārtham) - Pārtha (Arjuna); सर्वे (sarve) - all; देवा (devāḥ) - the gods; यथागतम् (yathā-āgatam) - as they had come; जग्मुः (jagmuḥ) - went; अन्ये (anye) - others; च (ca) - and; ये (ye) - who; तत्र (tatra) - there; समाजग्मुः (samājagmuḥ) - had assembled; नरर्षभ (nararṣabha) - O best of men;]
(Having restrained then Pārtha, all the gods as they had come went; others also who had assembled there, O best of men.)
Then, having restrained Pārtha, all the gods departed as they had come; and the others who had gathered there also went, O best of men. (03-172-23)
तेषु सर्वेषु कौरव्य प्रतियातेषु पाण्डवाः। तस्मिन्नेव वने हृष्टास्त ऊषुः सह कृष्णया ॥०३-१७२-२४॥
teṣu sarveṣu kauravya pratiyāteṣu pāṇḍavāḥ। tasminn eva vane hṛṣṭās ta ūṣuḥ saha kṛṣṇayā॥03-172-24॥
[तेषु (teṣu) - among those;, सर्वेषु (sarveṣu) - all;, कौरव्य (kauravya) - O descendant of Kuru;, प्रतियातेषु (pratiyāteṣu) - having returned;, पाण्डवाः (pāṇḍavāḥ) - the Pāṇḍavas;, तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that;, एव (eva) - only;, वने (vane) - forest;, हृष्टाः (hṛṣṭāḥ) - joyful;, ते (te) - they;, ऊषुः (ūṣuḥ) - lived;, सह (saha) - with;, कृष्णया (kṛṣṇayā) - with Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī);]
(Among those all having departed, O Kauravya, the Pāṇḍavas in that very forest, joyful, they lived with Kṛṣṇā.)
O Kauravya, after all those (visitors) had departed, the Pāṇḍavas remained joyfully in that very forest with Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī). (03-172-24)
