काश्यपो ह्यथ वासिष्ठः प्राणश्च प्राणपुत्रकः। अग्निराङ्गिरसश्चैव च्यवनस्त्रिषुवर्चकः ॥०३-२१०-१॥
kāśyapo hy atha vāsiṣṭhaḥ prāṇaś ca prāṇaputrakaḥ। agnir āṅgirasas caiva cyavanas triṣuvarcakaḥ ॥03-210-1॥

अचरन्त तपस्तीव्रं पुत्रार्थे बहुवार्षिकम्। पुत्रं लभेम धर्मिष्ठं यशसा ब्रह्मणा समम् ॥०३-२१०-२॥
acaranta tapastīvraṃ putrārthe bahuvārṣikam। putraṃ labhema dharmiṣṭhaṃ yaśasā brahmaṇā samam॥03-210-2॥
[अचरन्त (acaranta) - they performed; तपः (tapaḥ) - austerity; तीव्रं (tīvram) - severe; पुत्रार्थे (putrārthe) - for the sake of a son; बहुवार्षिकम् (bahuvārṣikam) - lasting many years; पुत्रम् (putram) - son; लभेम (labhema) - may we obtain; धर्मिष्ठम् (dharmiṣṭham) - very righteous; यशसा (yaśasā) - with fame; ब्रह्मणा (brahmaṇā) - as Brahmā; समम् (samam) - equal;]
(They performed severe austerity for the sake of a son, of many years; may we obtain a son, very righteous, equal to Brahmā in fame.)
They performed severe austerities for many years for the sake of a son, saying, "May we obtain a righteous son, equal to Brahmā in fame." (03-210-2)
महाव्याहृतिभिर्ध्यातः पञ्चभिस्तैस्तदा त्वथ। जज्ञे तेजोमयोऽर्चिष्मान्पञ्चवर्णः प्रभावनः ॥०३-२१०-३॥
mahāvyāhṛtibhirdhyātaḥ pañcabhistaiḥ tadā tvatha। jajñe tejomayo’rciṣmānpañcavarṇaḥ prabhāvanaḥ ॥03-210-3॥
[महाव्याहृतिभिः (mahāvyāhṛtibhiḥ) - with the great vyāhṛtis; ध्येतः (dhyātaḥ) - meditated upon; पञ्चभिः (pañcabhiḥ) - by the five; तैः (taiḥ) - by them; तदा (tadā) - then; त्व (tva) - and; थ (atha) - then; जज्ञे (jajñe) - was born; तेजोमयः (tejomayaḥ) - composed of light; अर्चिष्मान् (arciṣmān) - radiant; पञ्चवर्णः (pañcavarṇaḥ) - of five colors; प्रभावनः (prabhāvanaḥ) - resplendent;]
(With the great vyāhṛtis meditated upon by the five, by them then and then, was born composed of light, radiant, of five colors, resplendent.)
When the five meditated with the great vyāhṛtis, then, by them, there was born a being composed of light, radiant, having five colors, resplendent. (03-210-3)
समिद्धोऽग्निः शिरस्तस्य बाहू सूर्यनिभौ तथा। त्वङ्नेत्रे च सुवर्णाभे कृष्णे जङ्घे च भारत ॥०३-२१०-४॥
samiddho'gnīḥ śiras tasya bāhū sūryanibhau tathā। tvaṅnetre ca suvarṇābhe kṛṣṇe jaṅghe ca bhārata॥03-210-4॥
[समिद्धः (samiddhaḥ) - blazing; (kindled; inflamed;) अग्निः (agniḥ) - fire; शिरः (śiras) - head; तस्य (tasya) - his; बाहू (bāhū) - arms; सूर्यनिभौ (sūryanibhau) - sun-like (shining like the sun); तथा (tathā) - thus; in like manner; त्वङ् (tvaṅ) - skin; नेत्रे (netre) - eyes; च (ca) - and; सुवर्णाभे (suvarṇābhe) - golden-like; shining like gold; कृष्णे (kṛṣṇe) - dark (black); जङ्घे (jaṅghe) - thighs (legs); च (ca) - and; भारत (bhārata) - O Bhārata;]
(Blazing was the fire—his head; the arms sun-like thus; the skin and eyes golden-like, the thighs dark, and (so it was), O Bhārata.)

पञ्चवर्णः स तपसा कृतस्तैः पञ्चभिर्जनैः। पाञ्चजन्यः श्रुतो वेदे पञ्चवंशकरस्तु सः ॥०३-२१०-५॥
pañcavarṇaḥ sa tapasā kṛtas taiḥ pañcabhir janaiḥ। pāñcajanyaḥ śruto vede pañcavaṃśakaras tu saḥ॥03-210-5॥

दश वर्षसहस्राणि तपस्तप्त्वा महातपाः। जनयत्पावकं घोरं पितॄणां स प्रजाः सृजन् ॥०३-२१०-६॥
daśa varṣasahasrāṇi tapastaptvā mahātapāḥ। janayatpāvakaṃ ghoraṃ pitṝṇāṃ sa prajāḥ sṛjan ॥03-210-6॥

बृहद्रथन्तरं मूर्ध्नो वक्त्राच्च तरसाहरौ। शिवं नाभ्यां बलादिन्द्रं वाय्वग्नी प्राणतोऽसृजत् ॥०३-२१०-७॥
bṛhadrathantaraṃ mūrdhno vaktrācca tarasāharau। śivaṃ nābhyāṃ balādindraṃ vāyvagnī prāṇato'sṛjat॥03-210-7॥

बाहुभ्यामनुदात्तौ च विश्वे भूतानि चैव ह। एतान्सृष्ट्वा ततः पञ्च पितॄणामसृजत्सुतान् ॥०३-२१०-८॥
bāhubhyāmanudāttau ca viśve bhūtāni caiva ha. etānsṛṣṭvā tataḥ pañca pitṝṇāmasṛjatsutān ॥03-210-8॥
[बाहुभ्याम् (bāhubhyām) - from (his) two arms; अनुदात्तौ (anudāttau) - the low; of low (quality or status; च (ca) - and; विश्वे (viśve) - all; भूतानि (bhūtāni) - beings; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; ह (ha) - certainly; एतान् (etān) - these; सृष्ट्वा (sṛṣṭvā) - having created; ततः (tataḥ) - then; पञ्च (pañca) - five; पितॄणाम् (pitṝṇām) - of the ancestors; असृजत् (asṛjat) - he created; सुतान् (sutān) - sons;]
(From (his) two arms the low (status beings) and all beings and indeed certainly. These having created, then five of the ancestors' sons he created.)

बृहदूर्जस्य प्रणिधिः काश्यपस्य बृहत्तरः। भानुरङ्गिरसो वीरः पुत्रो वर्चस्य सौभरः ॥०३-२१०-९॥

प्राणस्य चानुदात्तश्च व्याख्याताः पञ्च वंशजाः। देवान्यज्ञमुषश्चान्यान्सृजन्पञ्चदशोत्तरान् ॥०३-२१०-१०॥
prāṇasya cānudāttaś ca vyākhyātāḥ pañca vaṃśajāḥ। devān yajñamuṣaś cānyān sṛjan pañcadaśottarān॥03-210-10॥

अभीममतिभीमं च भीमं भीमबलाबलम्। एतान्यज्ञमुषः पञ्च देवानभ्यसृजत्तपः ॥०३-२१०-११॥
abhīmam atibhīmaṃ ca bhīmaṃ bhīmabalābalam। etāny ajñamuṣaḥ pañca devān abhyasṛjat tapaḥ ॥03-210-11॥
[अभीमम् (abhīmam) - not fearful; अतिभीमम् (atibhīmam) - very terrible; च (ca) - and; भीमम् (bhīmam) - terrifying; भीमबलाबलम् (bhīmabalābalam) - of terrifying strength and weakness; एतानि (etāni) - these; अज्ञमुषः (ajñamuṣaḥ) - from the sacrifice-consuming (being); पञ्च (pañca) - five; देवान् (devān) - gods; अभ्यसृजत् (abhyasṛjat) - sent forth; तपः (tapaḥ) - penance;]
(Not fearful, very terrible and terrifying, of terrifying strength and weakness—these five gods the penance (personified) sent forth from the sacrifice-consuming (being).)

सुमित्रं मित्रवन्तं च मित्रज्ञं मित्रवर्धनम्। मित्रधर्माणमित्येतान्देवानभ्यसृजत्तपः ॥०३-२१०-१२॥
sumitraṃ mitravantaṃ ca mitrajñaṃ mitravardhanam। mitradharmāṇamityetān devān abhyasṛjat tapaḥ ॥03-210-12॥
[सुमित्रं (sumitraṃ) - good friend; मित्रवन्तं (mitravantaṃ) - possessing friends; च (ca) - and; मित्रज्ञं (mitrajñaṃ) - knower of friendship; मित्रवर्धनम् (mitravardhanam) - one who increases friendship; मित्रधर्माणम् (mitradharmāṇam) - having the qualities of a friend; इति (iti) - thus; एतान् (etān) - these; देवान् (devān) - gods; अभ्यसृजत् (abhyasṛjat) - sent forth; तपः (tapaḥ) - austerity;]
(Austerity (tapaḥ) sent forth these gods: good friend, possessing friends, and knower of friendship, one who increases friendship, having the qualities of a friend—thus.)

सुरप्रवीरं वीरं च सुकेशं च सुवर्चसम्। सुराणामपि हन्तारं पञ्चैतानसृजत्तपः ॥०३-२१०-१३॥
surapravīraṃ vīraṃ ca sukeśaṃ ca suvarcasam। surāṇām api hantāraṃ pañcaitānasṛjattapaḥ ॥03-210-13॥

These which are established threefold, the five (sets) severally, indeed take away here, being present, the rewards from heaven for the performers of sacrifice. (03-210-14)
तेषामिष्टं हरन्त्येते निघ्नन्ति च महद्भुवि। स्पर्धया हव्यवाहानां निघ्नन्त्येते हरन्ति च ॥०३-२१०-१५॥
teṣām iṣṭaṃ haranty ete nighnanti ca mahad bhuvi। spardhayā havyavāhānām nighnanti ete haranti ca ॥03-210-15॥
[तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; इष्टम् (iṣṭam) - offering; desired thing; हरन्ति (haranti) - carry (away); एते (ete) - these; निघ्नन्ति (nighnanti) - destroy; slay; च (ca) - and; महत् (mahat) - great; भुवि (bhuvi) - in the world; on earth; स्पर्धया (spardhayā) - with rivalry; with competition; हव्यवाहानाम् (havyavāhānām) - of the fire-carriers; (of) the fires; निघ्नन्ति (nighnanti) - destroy; slay; एते (ete) - these; हरन्ति (haranti) - carry (away); च (ca) - and;]
(Of them, the offering these carry (away), destroy and in the great world; with rivalry of the fire-carriers destroy these, carry (away) and.)
These carry away and destroy the offerings of those (people) on earth; out of rivalry with the fire-carriers, these both destroy and take away. (03-210-15)
हविर्वेद्यां तदादानं कुशलैः सम्प्रवर्तितम्। तदेते नोपसर्पन्ति यत्र चाग्निः स्थितो भवेत् ॥०३-२१०-१६॥
havirvedyāṃ tadādānaṃ kuśalaiḥ sampravartitam। tadete nopasarpanti yatra cāgniḥ sthito bhavet॥03-210-16॥
[हविर्वेद्यां (havirvedyām) - on the sacrificial altar; तत् (tat) - that; आदानं (ādānam) - taking; कुशलैः (kuśalaiḥ) - by the skilled; सम्प्रवर्तितम् (sampravartitam) - properly performed; तत् (tat) - that; एते (ete) - these; न (na) - not; उपसर्पन्ति (upasarpanti) - approach; यत्र (yatra) - where; च (ca) - and; अग्निः (agniḥ) - the fire; स्थितः (sthitaḥ) - established; भवेत् (bhavet) - is;]
(On the sacrificial altar, that taking by the skilled properly performed, that these do not approach where and the fire established is.)

चितोऽग्निरुद्वहन्यज्ञं पक्षाभ्यां तान्प्रबाधते। मन्त्रैः प्रशमिता ह्येते नेष्टं मुष्णन्ति यज्ञियम् ॥०३-२१०-१७॥
cito'gnirudvahanyajñaṃ pakṣābhyāṃ tānprabādhate। mantraiḥ praśamitā hyete neṣṭaṃ muṣṇanti yajñiyam॥03-210-17॥
[चितः (citaḥ) - funeral fire; spirit of the pyre; अग्निः (agniḥ) - fire; उद्वहन् (udvahan) - carrying forth; lifting up; यज्ञम् (yajñam) - sacrifice; पक्षाभ्यां (pakṣābhyām) - with wings; using the two wings; तान् (tān) - them; प्रबाधते (prabādhate) - drives away; repels; मन्त्रैः (mantraiḥ) - with mantras; by sacred formulas; प्रशमिताः (praśamitāḥ) - subdued; calmed; हि (hi) - indeed; for; एते (ete) - these; नेष्टम् (neṣṭam) - offering; oblation; मुष्णन्ति (muṣṇanti) - they seize; they take away; यज्ञियम् (yajñiyam) - belonging to sacrifice; sacrificial;]
(The fire of the pyre, carrying forth the sacrifice, with its wings, repels them. These, subdued by mantras indeed, do not seize the sacrificial offering.)
The fire of the funeral pyre, which carries away the sacrifice and repels them with its wings, is made calm by mantras; indeed, these (beings) do not steal the sacrificial oblation. (03-210-17)
बृहदुक्थतपस्यैव पुत्रो भूमिमुपाश्रितः। अग्निहोत्रे हूयमाने पृथिव्यां सद्भिरिज्यते ॥०३-२१०-१८॥
bṛhadukthatapasyaiva putro bhūmimupāśritaḥ। agnihotre hūyamāne pṛthivyāṃ sadbhirijyate ॥03-210-18॥
[बृहदुक्थतपस्यैव (bṛhadukthatapasyaiva) - of one whose austerity is 'Bṛhaduktha' indeed; पुत्रः (putraḥ) - the son; भूमिम् (bhūmim) - the earth; उपाश्रितः (upāśritaḥ) - resorted to; अग्निहोत्रे (agnihotre) - in the Agnihotra sacrifice; हूयमाने (hūyamāne) - while being offered; पृथिव्याम् (pṛthivyām) - on the earth; सद्भिः (sadbhir) - by the virtuous; इज्यते (ijyate) - is worshipped;]
(The son, indeed, of one whose austerity is 'Bṛhaduktha' has resorted to the earth. In the Agnihotra sacrifice, while offerings are made, on earth, by the virtuous, he is worshipped.)

रथन्तरश्च तपसः पुत्रोऽग्निः परिपठ्यते। मित्रविन्दाय वै तस्य हविरध्वर्यवो विदुः ॥ मुमुदे परमप्रीतः सह पुत्रैर्महायशाः ॥०३-२१०-१९॥
