मार्कण्डेय उवाच॥

यदा स्कन्देन मातॄणामेवमेतत्प्रियं कृतम्। अथैनमब्रवीत्स्वाहा मम पुत्रस्त्वमौरसः ॥०३-२२०-१॥
yadā skandena mātṝṇām evam etat priyaṃ kṛtam। athainam abravīt svāhā mama putras tvam ourasaḥ॥03-220-1॥
[यदा (yadā) - when; स्कन्देन (skandena) - by Skanda; मातॄणाम् (mātṝṇām) - of the mothers; एवम् (evam) - thus; एतत् (etat) - this; प्रियं (priyaṃ) - beloved; कृतम् (kṛtam) - done; अथ (atha) - then; एनम् (enam) - to him; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; स्वाहा (svāhā) - Svāhā; मम (mama) - my; पुत्रः (putraḥ) - son; त्वम् (tvam) - you; औरसः (ourasaḥ) - born from one's own body;]
(When by Skanda, for the mothers, thus this beloved (deed) was done, then to him Svāhā said: my son you (are) born from my own body (i.e., truly my son). (03-220-1))
When Skanda thus performed this beloved act for the mothers, then Svāhā said to him, "You are my son, born from my own body." (03-220-1)
इच्छाम्यहं त्वया दत्तां प्रीतिं परमदुर्लभाम्। तामब्रवीत्ततः स्कन्दः प्रीतिमिच्छसि कीदृशीम् ॥०३-२२०-२॥
icchāmyahaṃ tvayā dattāṃ prītiṃ paramadurlabhām। tāmabravīttataḥ skandaḥ prītimicchasi kīdṛśīm ॥03-220-2॥
[इच्छामि (icchāmi) - I desire; अहम् (aham) - I; त्वया (tvayā) - by you; दत्ताम् (dattām) - given; प्रीतिम् (prītim) - affection; परमदुर्लभाम् (paramadurlabhām) - extremely difficult to obtain; ताम् (tām) - that (affection); अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; ततः (tataḥ) - then; स्कन्दः (skandaḥ) - Skanda; प्रीतिम् (prītim) - affection; इच्छसि (icchasi) - you desire; कीदृशीम् (kīdṛśīm) - of what kind;]
(I desire, I, by you given affection extremely difficult to obtain. That said then Skanda: Affection you desire, of what kind?)
I desire from you an affection that is extremely difficult to obtain. Then Skanda said: What kind of affection do you desire? (03-220-2)

दक्षस्याहं प्रिया कन्या स्वाहा नाम महाभुज। बाल्यात्प्रभृति नित्यं च जातकामा हुताशने ॥०३-२२०-३॥
dakṣasyāhaṃ priyā kanyā svāhā nāma mahābhuja। bālyātprabhṛti nityaṃ ca jātakāmā hutāśane ॥03-220-3॥
[दक्षस्य (dakṣasya) - of Dakṣa; अहम् (aham) - I; प्रिया (priyā) - beloved; कन्या (kanyā) - daughter; स्वाहा (svāhā) - Svāhā; नाम (nāma) - named; महाभुज (mahābhuja) - O mighty-armed; बाल्यात् (bālyāt) - from childhood; प्रभृति (prabhṛti) - from the beginning; नित्यं (nityaṃ) - always; च (ca) - and; जातकामा (jātakāmā) - having desire arisen; हुताशने (hutāśane) - in the fire;]
(Of Dakṣa, I beloved daughter, Svāhā named, O mighty-armed. From childhood, from the beginning, always and, having desire arisen, in the fire. (03-220-3))
O mighty-armed one, I, Svāhā by name, am the beloved daughter of Dakṣa. From childhood, I have always had a desire for the fire. (03-220-3)
न च मां कामिनीं पुत्र सम्यग्जानाति पावकः। इच्छामि शाश्वतं वासं वस्तुं पुत्र सहाग्निना ॥०३-२२०-४॥
na ca māṃ kāminīṃ putra samyagjānāti pāvakaḥ। icchāmi śāśvataṃ vāsaṃ vastuṃ putra sahāgninā॥03-220-4॥
[न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; मां (māṃ) - me; कामिनीं (kāminīṃ) - the desiring (woman); पुत्र (putra) - son; सम्यक्-जानाति (samyag-jānāti) - fully knows; पावकः (pāvakaḥ) - Agni; इच्छामि (icchāmi) - I wish; शाश्वतम् (śāśvatam) - eternal; वासम् (vāsaṃ) - abode; वस्तुम् (vastuṃ) - to dwell; पुत्र (putra) - son; सह (saha) - with; अग्निना (agninā) - with Agni;]
(Not and me, the desiring (woman), son, fully knows Agni. I wish eternal abode to dwell, son, with Agni.)
Son, Agni does not truly know me, the desiring woman. I wish to dwell eternally, son, with Agni. (03-220-4)

हव्यं कव्यं च यत्किञ्चिद्द्विजा मन्त्रपुरस्कृतम्। होष्यन्त्यग्नौ सदा देवि स्वाहेत्युक्त्वा समुद्यतम् ॥०३-२२०-५॥
havyaṃ kavyaṃ ca yatkiñcid dvijā mantrapuraskṛtam। hoṣyanty agnau sadā devi svāhety uktvā samudyatam॥ 03-220-5॥
[हव्यं (havyaṃ) - offering to gods;, कव्यं (kavyaṃ) - offering to ancestors;, च (ca) - and;, यत्किञ्चित् (yatkiñcit) - whatever;, द्विजाः (dvijāḥ) - the twice-born (Brahmins etc.);, मन्त्रपुरस्कृतम् (mantrapuraskṛtam) - preceded by mantra;, होष्यन्ति (hoṣyanti) - will offer;, अग्नौ (agnau) - into the fire;, सदा (sadā) - always;, देवि (devi) - O lady;, स्वाहेति (svāheti) - 'svāhā' thus;, उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having uttered;, समुद्यतम् (samudyatam) - offered upraised (with uplifted hand);]
(Offering to gods, offering to ancestors, and whatever (else) the twice-born, preceded by mantra, will offer into the fire always, O lady, having uttered 'svāhā', (with) upraised (hand).)
O lady, all offerings to gods and ancestors and whatever else the twice-born always sacrifice into the fire, preceded by mantra and with the invocation 'svāhā' as they raise (the offering), (all these) are so offered. (03-220-5)
अद्य प्रभृति दास्यन्ति सुवृत्ताः सत्पथे स्थिताः। एवमग्निस्त्वया सार्धं सदा वत्स्यति शोभने ॥०३-२२०-६॥
adya prabhṛti dāsyanti suvṛttāḥ satpathe sthitāḥ. evamagniḥ tvayā sārdhaṃ sadā vatsyati śobhane ॥03-220-6॥
[अद्य (adya) - today; प्रभृति (prabhṛti) - from now on; दास्यन्ति (dāsyanti) - will give; सुवृत्ताः (suvṛttāḥ) - the well-conducted; सत्पथे (satpathe) - in the righteous path; स्थिताः (sthitāḥ) - being established; एवम् (evam) - thus; अग्निः (agniḥ) - Agni; त्वया (tvayā) - with you; सार्धम् (sārdham) - together; सदा (sadā) - always; वत्स्यति (vatsyati) - will remain; शोभने (śobhane) - O lovely one;]
(Today from now on the well-conducted being established in the righteous path will give. Thus Agni with you together always will remain, O lovely one.)
From today onward, those of good conduct established in the righteous path will grant (offerings). Thus, Agni will always remain together with you, O lovely one. (03-220-6)

एवमुक्ता ततः स्वाहा तुष्टा स्कन्देन पूजिता। पावकेन समायुक्ता भर्त्रा स्कन्दमपूजयत् ॥०३-२२०-७॥
evamuktā tataḥ svāhā tuṣṭā skandena pūjitā। pāvakena samāyuktā bhartrā skandam apūjayat ॥03-220-7॥
[एवमुक्ता (evamuktā) - thus addressed; ततः (tataḥ) - then; स्वाहा (svāhā) - Svāhā (the goddess Svāhā); तुष्टा (tuṣṭā) - pleased; स्कन्देन (skandena) - by Skanda; पूजिता (pūjitā) - honored; पावकेन (pāvakena) - by Pāvaka (Agni, the Fire god); समायुक्ता (samāyuktā) - joined with; भर्त्रा (bhartrā) - by her husband; स्कन्दम् (skandam) - Skanda; अपूजयत् (apūjayat) - honored;]
(Thus addressed, then Svāhā, pleased and honored by Skanda, being joined with her husband Pāvaka, honored Skanda.)

ततो ब्रह्मा महासेनं प्रजापतिरथाब्रवीत्। अभिगच्छ महादेवं पितरं त्रिपुरार्दनम् ॥०३-२२०-८॥
tato brahmā mahāsenaṃ prajāpatiḥ atha abravīt। abhigaccha mahādevam pitaraṃ tripurārdanam॥03-220-8॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then;, ब्रह्मा (brahmā) - Brahmā (the creator god); महासेनम् (mahāsenaṃ) - Mahāsena (Kārtikeya); प्रजापतिः (prajāpatiḥ) - the lord of creatures (Brahmā); अथ (atha) - then;, अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - said; अभिगच्छ (abhigaccha) - approach; महादेवं (mahādevam) - Mahādeva (Śiva); पितरम् (pitaram) - father; त्रिपुरार्दनम् (tripurārdanam) - destroyer of Tripura;]
(Then Brahmā, the lord of creatures, said to Mahāsena: "Approach Mahādeva, the father, destroyer of Tripura." (03-220-8))
Then Brahmā, the lord of creatures, spoke to Mahāsena: "Go to Mahādeva, your father, the destroyer of Tripura." (03-220-8)
रुद्रेणाग्निं समाविश्य स्वाहामाविश्य चोमया। हितार्थं सर्वलोकानां जातस्त्वमपराजितः ॥०३-२२०-९॥
rudreṇāgniṃ samāviśya svāhām āviśya ca omayā। hitārthaṃ sarvalokānāṃ jātas tvam aparājitaḥ॥03-220-9॥
[रुद्रेण (rudreṇa) - by Rudra; अग्निं (agniṃ) - fire; समाविश्य (samāviśya) - having fully entered; स्वाहाम् (svāhām) - Svāhā (the oblation); आविश्य (āviśya) - having entered; च (ca) - and; ओमया (omayā) - with Om; हितार्थं (hitārtham) - for the benefit; सर्वलोकानाम् (sarvalokānām) - of all worlds; जातः (jātaḥ) - born; त्वम् (tvam) - you; अपराजितः (aparājitaḥ) - unconquered;;]
(By Rudra, having fully entered fire, having entered Svāhā and with Om, for the benefit of all worlds, born you unconquered.)
You, unconquered, having fully entered fire through Rudra, entered Svāhā as well as Om, were born for the benefit of all worlds. (3-220-9)
उमायोन्यां च रुद्रेण शुक्रं सिक्तं महात्मना। आस्ते गिरौ निपतितं मिञ्जिकामिञ्जिकं यतः ॥०३-२२०-१०॥
umāyonyāṁ ca rudreṇa śukraṁ siktaṁ mahātmanā। āste girau nipatitaṁ miñjikāmiñjikaṁ yataḥ ॥03-220-10॥
[उमायोन्यां (umāyonyām) - in the womb of Umā; च (ca) - and; रुद्रेण (rudreṇa) - by Rudra; शुक्रं (śukram) - semen; सिक्तं (siktam) - spilled; महात्मना (mahātmanā) - by the great-souled one; आस्ते (āste) - remains; गिरौ (girau) - on the mountain; निपतितं (nipatitam) - fallen; मिञ्जिकामिञ्जिकं (miñjikāmiñjikaṁ) - in scattered drops; यतः (yataḥ) - from where;]
(In the womb of Umā and by Rudra, the semen spilled by the great-souled one remains on the mountain, fallen in scattered drops from where.)
The semen spilled by the great Rudra in the womb of Umā remains on the mountain, fallen there in scattered drops. (03-220-10)
सम्भूतं लोहितोदे तु शुक्रशेषमवापतत्। सूर्यरश्मिषु चाप्यन्यदन्यच्चैवापतद्भुवि ॥ आसक्तमन्यद्वृक्षेषु तदेवं पञ्चधापतत् ॥०३-२२०-११॥
sambhūtaṃ lohitode tu śukraśeṣam avāpatat। sūryaraśmiṣu cāpy anyad anyac caivāpatad bhuvi॥ āsaktam anyad vṛkṣeṣu tad evaṃ pañcadhāpatat॥03-220-11॥
[सम्भूतं (sambhūtaṃ) - manifested; arisen; लोहितोदे (lohitode) - in reddish water; in red fluid; तु (tu) - but; शुक्रशेषम् (śukraśeṣam) - residual semen; remainder of essence; अवापतत् (avāpatat) - fell down; descended; सूर्यरश्मिषु (sūryaraśmiṣu) - in sun rays; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; अन्यत् (anyat) - another; other; अन्यत् (anyat) - another; other; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; just; अपतत् (apatat) - fell; dropped; भुवि (bhuvi) - on earth; on the ground; आसक्तम् (āsaktam) - attached; clung; अन्यत् (anyat) - another; other; वृक्षेषु (vṛkṣeṣu) - on trees; तत् (tat) - it; that; एवम् (evam) - thus; in this manner; पञ्चधा (pañcadhā) - in five ways; in five parts; अपतत् (apatat) - fell; descended;]
(Manifested in reddish water but the remainder of semen fell. In the sun rays also another part, and another also, indeed, fell on the earth. Another clung to the trees. That thus fell in five ways.)
It manifested in red water, but the remaining semen fell down. Part of it fell into the sun's rays, another part to the earth, another attached to trees; thus it fell in five ways. (03-220-11)
त एते विविधाकारा गणा ज्ञेया मनीषिभिः। तव पारिषदा घोरा य एते पिशिताशनाः ॥०३-२२०-१२॥
ta ete vividhākārā gaṇā jñeyā manīṣibhiḥ। tava pāriṣadā ghorā ya ete piśitāśanāḥ ॥03-220-12॥
[त (ta) - they; एते (ete) - these; विविधाकारा (vividhākārā) - of various forms; गणा (gaṇā) - groups; ज्ञेया (jñeyā) - to be known; मनीषिभिः (manīṣibhiḥ) - by the wise; तव (tava) - your; पारिषदा (pāriṣadā) - attendants; घोरा (ghorā) - terrible; य (ya) - who; एते (ete) - these; पिशिताशनाः (piśitāśanāḥ) - flesh-eaters;]
(They these of various forms groups to be known by the wise. Your attendants terrible who these flesh-eaters.)
These groups of various forms are to be known by the wise as your terrible attendants, those who are flesh-eaters. (03-220-12)
एवमस्त्विति चाप्युक्त्वा महासेनो महेश्वरम्। अपूजयदमेयात्मा पितरं पितृवत्सलः ॥०३-२२०-१३॥
evam astv iti cāpy uktvā mahāseno maheśvaram। apūjayad ameyātmā pitaraṃ pitṛvatsalaḥ॥03-220-13॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; अस्तु (astu) - let it be; इति (iti) - so; च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having said; महासेनः (mahāsenaḥ) - Mahāsena (proper noun, a name of Kārttikeya); महेश्वरम् (maheśvaram) - Maheśvara (proper noun, a name of Śiva); अपूजयत् (apūjayat) - worshipped; अमेयात्मा (ameyātmā) - whose nature is immeasurable; पितरम् (pitaraṃ) - the father; पितृवत्सलः (pitṛvatsalaḥ) - loving the father;]
(Thus let it be, having said so and also, Mahāsena (Kārttikeya) worshipped Maheśvara (Śiva), whose nature is immeasurable, the father, loving the father.)
Saying "So be it", Mahāsena (Kārttikeya), devoted to his father and of immeasurable nature, worshipped Maheśvara (Śiva), his father. (03-220-13)
अर्कपुष्पैस्तु ते पञ्च गणाः पूज्या धनार्थिभिः। व्याधिप्रशमनार्थं च तेषां पूजां समाचरेत् ॥०३-२२०-१४॥
arkapuṣpaistu te pañca gaṇāḥ pūjyā dhanārthibhiḥ। vyādhipraśamanārthaṃ ca teṣāṃ pūjāṃ samācaret॥03-220-14॥
[अर्कपुष्पैः (arkapuṣpaiḥ) - with Arka flowers; तु (tu) - but; ते (te) - those; पञ्च (pañca) - five; गणाः (gaṇāḥ) - groups; पूज्या (pūjyā) - to be worshipped; धनार्थिभिः (dhanārthibhiḥ) - by those desiring wealth; व्याधिप्रशमनार्थं (vyādhipraśamanārtham) - for the purpose of removal of disease; च (ca) - and; तेषां (teṣām) - of them; पूजां (pūjāṃ) - worship; समाचरेत् (samācaret) - should perform;]
(But with Arka flowers, those five groups are to be worshipped by those desiring wealth; and for the purpose of removal of disease, one should also perform the worship of them.)
But those five groups should be worshipped with Arka flowers by those seeking wealth, and their worship should also be performed for the removal of disease. (03-220-14)
मिञ्जिकामिञ्जिकं चैव मिथुनं रुद्रसम्भवम्। नमस्कार्यं सदैवेह बालानां हितमिच्छता ॥०३-२२०-१५॥
miñjikāmiñjikaṃ caiva mithunaṃ rudrasambhavam। namaskāryaṃ sadaiveha bālānāṃ hitamicchatā ॥03-220-15॥
[मिञ्जिकामिञ्जिकं (miñjikāmiñjikaṃ) - the miñjikāmiñjika (certain class or pair of birds); च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; मिथुनं (mithunaṃ) - the pair; रुद्रसम्भवम् (rudrasambhavam) - born of Rudra; नमस्कार्यं (namaskāryam) - to be saluted; सदैव (sadaiva) - always; इह (iha) - here; बालानां (bālānāṃ) - of children; हितम् (hitam) - welfare; इच्छता (icchatā) - by one desiring;]
(The miñjikāmiñjika pair indeed, the pair born of Rudra, is to be saluted always here by one desiring the welfare of children.)
One who desires the welfare of children should always here salute the miñjikāmiñjika pair, which is born of Rudra. (03-220-15)
स्त्रियो मानुषमांसादा वृद्धिका नाम नामतः। वृक्षेषु जातास्ता देव्यो नमस्कार्याः प्रजार्थिभिः ॥०३-२२०-१६॥
striyo mānuṣamāṃsādā vṛddhikā nāma nāmataḥ। vṛkṣeṣu jātāstā devyo namaskāryāḥ prajārtibhiḥ॥03-220-16॥
[स्त्रियः (striyaḥ) - women; मानुषमांसादा (mānuṣamāṃsādā) - eaters of human flesh; वृद्धिका (vṛddhikā) - Vṛddhikās; नाम (nāma) - by name; नामतः (nāmataḥ) - by name; वृक्षेषु (vṛkṣeṣu) - upon trees; जाताः (jātāḥ) - born; ता (tā) - they; देव्यः (devyaḥ) - goddesses; नमस्कार्याः (namaskāryāḥ) - should be saluted; प्रजार्थिभिः (prajārthibhiḥ) - by those desiring progeny;]
(Women, eaters of human flesh, called Vṛddhikās by name; upon trees born, they goddesses should be saluted by those desiring progeny.)
Women called Vṛddhikās, eaters of human flesh, are born upon trees; they are goddesses who should be saluted by those desiring children. (03-220-16)
एवमेते पिशाचानामसङ्ख्येया गणाः स्मृताः। घण्टायाः सपताकायाः शृणु मे सम्भवं नृप ॥०३-२२०-१७॥
evam ete piśācānām asaṅkhyeyā gaṇāḥ smṛtāḥ। ghaṇṭāyāḥ sapatākāyāḥ śṛṇu me sambhavam nṛpa ॥03-220-17॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; एते (ete) - these; पिशाचानाम् (piśācānām) - of piśācas (goblins); असङ्ख्येयाः (asaṅkhyeyāḥ) - innumerable; गणाः (gaṇāḥ) - groups; स्मृताः (smṛtāḥ) - are remembered; घण्टायाः (ghaṇṭāyāḥ) - of Ghaṇṭā (proper noun, feminine); सपताकायाः (sapatākāyāḥ) - of Sapatākā (proper noun, feminine); शृणु (śṛṇu) - hear; मे (me) - from me; सम्भवम् (sambhavam) - origin; नृप (nṛpa) - O king;]
(Thus these innumerable groups of piśācas are remembered. Of Ghaṇṭā and Sapatākā, hear from me the origin, O king.)

ऐरावतस्य घण्टे द्वे वैजयन्त्याविति श्रुते। गुहस्य ते स्वयं दत्ते शक्रेणानाय्य धीमता ॥०३-२२०-१८॥
airāvatasya ghaṇṭe dve vaijayantyāv iti śrute. guḥasya te svayam datte śakreṇa ānāyya dhīmatā ॥03-220-18॥
[ऐरावतस्य (airāvatasya) - of Airāvata; (elephant mount of Indra); घण्टे (ghaṇṭe) - bells; (plural nominative/accusative); द्वे (dve) - two; विजयन्त्यौ (vaijayantyau) - (named) Vaijayantī (dual); इति (iti) - thus; श्रुते (śrute) - it is heard; गुहस्य (guḥasya) - of Guha; (epithet for Kārttikeya, Skanda); ते (te) - to you; स्वयं (svayam) - personally; by himself; दत्ते (datte) - (they were) given; शक्रेण (śakreṇa) - by Śakra; (Indra); आनाय्य (ānāyya) - having brought; धीमता (dhīmatā) - by the wise (one);]
(Of Airāvata, two bells named Vaijayantī thus it is heard; to Guha, to you, personally given by Śakra, having brought, by the wise one.)
It is heard that two bells named Vaijayantī, belonging to Airāvata, were brought and personally given to you, Guha, by the wise Śakra (Indra). (03-220-18)
एका तत्र विशाखस्य घण्टा स्कन्दस्य चापरा। पताका कार्त्तिकेयस्य विशाखस्य च लोहिता ॥०३-२२०-१९॥
ekā tatra viśākhasya ghaṇṭā skandasya ca aparā। patākā kārttikeyasya viśākhasya ca lohitā॥03-220-19॥
[एका (ekā) - one; तत्र (tatra) - there; विशाखस्य (viśākhasya) - of Viśākha; घण्टा (ghaṇṭā) - bell; स्कन्दस्य (skandasya) - of Skanda; च (ca) - and; अपरा (aparā) - another; पताका (patākā) - banner; कार्त्तिकेयस्य (kārttikeyasya) - of Kārtikeya; विशाखस्य (viśākhasya) - of Viśākha; च (ca) - and; लोहिता (lohitā) - red;]
(One there of Viśākha bell, of Skanda and another. Banner of Kārtikeya, of Viśākha and red.)
There, one bell belonged to Viśākha and another to Skanda; the banner was Kārtikeya's, and that of Viśākha was red. (03-220-19)
यानि क्रीडनकान्यस्य देवैर्दत्तानि वै तदा। तैरेव रमते देवो महासेनो महाबलः ॥०३-२२०-२०॥
yāni krīḍanakāny asya devair dattāni vai tadā. tair eva ramate devo mahāseno mahābalaḥ ॥03-220-20॥
[यानि (yāni) - which; क्रीडनकानि (krīḍanakāni) - playthings; अस्य (asya) - his; देवैः (devaiḥ) - by the gods; दत्तानि (dattāni) - given; वै (vai) - indeed; तदा (tadā) - at that time; तैः एव (tair eva) - with those only; रमते (ramate) - he delights; देवः (devaḥ) - the god; महासेनः (mahāsenaḥ) - Mahāsena; महाबलः (mahābalaḥ) - mighty one;]
(Which playthings of his, given indeed by the gods at that time, with those only the god Mahāsena, the mighty one, delights.)
The mighty god Mahāsena delights only in those playthings given to him by the gods at that time. (03-220-20)
स संवृतः पिशाचानां गणैर्देवगणैस्तथा। शुशुभे काञ्चने शैले दीप्यमानः श्रिया वृतः ॥०३-२२०-२१॥
sa saṁvṛtaḥ piśācānāṁ gaṇair devagaṇais tathā। śuśubhe kāñcane śaile dīpyamānaḥ śriyā vṛtaḥ ॥03-220-21॥
[स (sa) - he; संवृतः (saṁvṛtaḥ) - surrounded; पिशाचानाम् (piśācānām) - of piśācas (ghouls; spirits); गणैः (gaṇaiḥ) - by groups; देवगणैः (devagaṇaiḥ) - by groups of gods; तथा (tathā) - as well; also; शुशुभे (śuśubhe) - shone; appeared splendid; काञ्चने (kāñcane) - golden; शैले (śaile) - on the mountain; दीप्यमानः (dīpyamānaḥ) - glowing; shining; श्रियाऽवृतः (śriyā vṛtaḥ) - surrounded by splendor;]
(He, surrounded by groups of piśācas and also by groups of gods, shone on the golden mountain, glowing, surrounded by splendor.)
He, encircled by hosts of piśācas as well as by groups of gods, shone with radiance on the golden mountain, enveloped in glory. (03-220-21)
तेन वीरेण शुशुभे स शैलः शुभकाननः। आदित्येनेवांशुमता मन्दरश्चारुकन्दरः ॥०३-२२०-२२॥
tena vīreṇa śuśubhe sa śailaḥ śubhakānanaḥ। ādityenaiva aṁśumatā mandaraś ca arukandaraḥ॥03-220-22॥
[तेन (tena) - by that; वीरेण (vīreṇa) - hero; शुशुभे (śuśubhe) - shone; स (sa) - that; शैलः (śailaḥ) - mountain; शुभकाननः (śubhakānanaḥ) - with beautiful forest; आदित्येन (ādityena) - by the sun; एव (eva) - just; अंशुमता (aṁśumatā) - by the radiant one; मन्दरः (mandaraḥ) - Mandara (name of mountain); चारुकन्दरः (cārukandaraḥ) - with lovely caves;]
(By that hero, that mountain with beautiful forest shone, just as Mandara with lovely caves by the radiant sun.)
That mountain with beautiful forests was made splendid by that hero, just as Mandara mountain with its lovely caves is glorified by the radiant sun. (03-220-22)
सन्तानकवनैः फुल्लैः करवीरवनैरपि। पारिजातवनैश्चैव जपाशोकवनैस्तथा ॥०३-२२०-२३॥
santānakavanaiḥ phullaiḥ karavīravanair api। pārijātavanaiś caiva japāśokavanais tathā ॥03-220-23॥
[सन्तानकवनैः (santānakavanaiḥ) - by groves of santānaka trees; फुल्लैः (phullaiḥ) - with blossoming (ones); करवीरवनैः (karavīravanaiḥ) - by groves of karavīra trees; अपि (api) - also; पारिजातवनैः (pārijātavanaiḥ) - by groves of pārijāta trees; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; जपा- (japā-) - of hibiscus; अशोकवनैः (aśokavanaiḥ) - by groves of aśoka trees; तथा (tathā) - so;]
(By groves of santānaka, with blossoming ones, by groves of karavīra also, by groves of pārijāta indeed, and by groves of hibiscus and aśoka trees similarly.)
With groves of santānaka, blooming karavīra, pārijāta, and also groves of hibiscus and aśoka trees in the same way. (03-220-23)
कदम्बतरुषण्डैश्च दिव्यैर्मृगगणैरपि। दिव्यैः पक्षिगणैश्चैव शुशुभे श्वेतपर्वतः ॥०३-२२०-२४॥
kadambataruṣaṇḍaiś ca divyaiḥ mṛgagaṇair api. divyaiḥ pakṣigaṇaiś caiva śuśubhe śvetaparvataḥ ॥03-220-24॥
[कदम्बतरुषण्डैः (kadamba-taru-ṣaṇḍaiḥ) - by groves of kadamba trees; च (ca) - and; दिव्यैः (divyaiḥ) - by divine; मृगगणैः (mṛga-gaṇaiḥ) - by groups of deer; अपि (api) - also; दिव्यैः (divyaiḥ) - by divine; पक्षिगणैः (pakṣi-gaṇaiḥ) - by flocks of birds; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; शुशुभे (śuśubhe) - shone; श्वेतपर्वतः (śveta-parvataḥ) - Śveta mountain;]
(By groves of kadamba trees and by divine groups of deer also, by divine flocks of birds indeed, shone Śveta mountain.)

तत्र देवगणाः सर्वे सर्वे चैव महर्षयः। मेघतूर्यरवाश्चैव क्षुब्धोदधिसमस्वनाः ॥०३-२२०-२५॥
tatra devagaṇāḥ sarve sarve caiva maharṣayaḥ। meghatūryaravāś caiva kṣubdhodadhisamasvanāḥ॥03-220-25॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; देवगणाः (devagaṇāḥ) - divine hosts; सर्वे (sarve) - all; सर्वे (sarve) - all; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; महर्षयः (maharṣayaḥ) - great sages; मेघ (megha) - cloud; तूर्य (tūrya) - musical instrument; रवाः (ravāḥ) - sounds; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; क्षुब्ध (kṣubdha) - agitated; उदधि (udadhi) - ocean; सम (sama) - equal; स्वनाः (svanāḥ) - roars;]
(There divine hosts all, all indeed great sages, and the sounds of clouds and musical instruments also indeed, (with) roars equal to the agitated ocean.)
There all the hosts of gods, all the great sages, and indeed the sounds of clouds and instruments, (resounded) with roars equal to the surging ocean. (03-220-25)
तत्र दिव्याश्च गन्धर्वा नृत्यन्त्यप्सरसस्तथा। हृष्टानां तत्र भूतानां श्रूयते निनदो महान् ॥०३-२२०-२६॥
tatra divyāś ca gandharvā nṛtyanty apsarasaś tathā। hṛṣṭānāṃ tatra bhūtānāṃ śrūyate ninado mahān ॥03-220-26॥

(There divine Gandharvas and likewise Apsarases are dancing; of delighted beings there, a great roar is heard.)

एवं सेन्द्रं जगत्सर्वं श्वेतपर्वतसंस्थितम्। प्रहृष्टं प्रेक्षते स्कन्दं न च ग्लायति दर्शनात् ॥०३-२२०-२७॥
evaṃ sendraṃ jagatsarvaṃ śvetaparvatasaṃsthitam। prahṛṣṭaṃ prekṣate skandaṃ na ca glāyati darśanāt॥03-220-27॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; सेन्द्रं (sendraṃ) - with Indra; जगत् (jagat) - the world; सर्वं (sarvaṃ) - all; श्वेतपर्वतसंस्थितम् (śvetaparvatasamsthitam) - abiding on the Śveta Parvata (White Mountain); प्रहृष्टं (prahṛṣṭam) - delighted; प्रेक्षते (prekṣate) - looks; स्कन्दं (skandaṃ) - at Skanda; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; ग्लायति (glāyati) - grows weary; दर्शनात् (darśanāt) - from the sight;]
(Thus, all the world with Indra, abiding on the Śveta Parvata, delighted, looks at Skanda, and does not grow weary from the sight.)
Thus, the entire world along with Indra, being on the Śveta Parvata (White Mountain), joyfully beholds Skanda and does not tire of his sight. (03-220-27)
