Core and Pancharatra-Ext: Funeral rites; taking care of veterans and their families; Yudhisthira, the supremely compassionate, bestowed his favor upon the poor, the blind, and the miserable by providing them with shelter, clothing, and food; without any rivals, lived happily.

ततो युधिष्ठिरो राजा ज्ञातीनां ये हता मृधे। श्राद्धानि कारयामास तेषां पृथगुदारधीः ॥१२-४२-१॥
tato yudhiṣṭhiro rājā jñātīnāṃ ye hatā mṛdhe। śrāddhāni kārayāmāsa teṣāṃ pṛthagudāradhīḥ ॥12-42-1॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; युधिष्ठिरः (yudhiṣṭhiraḥ) - Yudhishthira; राजा (rājā) - king; ज्ञातीनाम् (jñātīnām) - of relatives; ये (ye) - who; हता (hatāḥ) - were slain; मृधे (mṛdhe) - in battle; श्राद्धानि (śrāddhāni) - funeral rites; कारयामास (kārayāmāsa) - caused to be performed; तेषाम् (teṣām) - for them; पृथक् (pṛthak) - separately; उदारधीः (udāradhīḥ) - the noble-minded;]
(Then Yudhishthira the king, the noble-minded, caused funeral rites to be performed separately for those relatives who were slain in battle.)

(Dhritarashtra, the king, gave for his sons' funeral rites food endowed with all desirable qualities, cows and wealth, and also gems, various and very precious, (he who was) of great fame.)

(Yudhishthira but of Karna, of Drona and of the great-souled, by Dhrishtadyumna and Abhimanyu, of Hidimba and of the Rakshasa.)
But Yudhishthira (was protected) from Karna, Drona, and the great-souled ones, by Dhrishtadyumna and Abhimanyu, and by the Rakshasa son of Hidimba.
विराटप्रभृतीनां च सुहृदामुपकारिणाम्। द्रुपदद्रौपदेयानां द्रौपद्या सहितो ददौ ॥१२-४२-४॥

(Of Virāṭa and others, and of friends and benefactors, of Drupada and the sons of Draupadī, together with Draupadī, he gave.)
He gave (gifts) to Virāṭa and others, to friends and benefactors, to Drupada and the sons of Draupadī, together with Draupadī.
ब्राह्मणानां सहस्राणि पृथगेकैकमुद्दिशन्। धनैश्च वस्त्रै रत्नैश्च गोभिश्च समतर्पयत् ॥१२-४२-५॥
brāhmaṇānāṃ sahasrāṇi pṛthagekaikamuddiśan। dhanaiś ca vastrai ratnaiś ca gobhiś ca samatarpayat ॥12-42-5॥
[ब्राह्मणानाम् (brāhmaṇānām) - of the Brāhmaṇas; सहस्राणि (sahasrāṇi) - thousands; पृथक् (pṛthak) - separately; एकैकम् (ekaikam) - each one; उद्दिशन् (uddiśan) - addressing; धनैः (dhanaīḥ) - with riches; च (ca) - and; वस्त्रैः (vastraiḥ) - with garments; रत्नैः (ratnaiḥ) - with jewels; च (ca) - and; गोभिः (gobhiḥ) - with cows; च (ca) - and; समतर्पयत् (samatarpayat) - completely satisfied;]
(Of the Brāhmaṇas thousands separately each one addressing, with riches and with garments and with jewels and with cows and completely satisfied.)
He satisfied thousands of Brāhmaṇas, addressing each one separately, with riches, garments, jewels, and cows.
ये चान्ये पृथिवीपाला येषां नास्ति सुहृज्जनः। उद्दिश्योद्दिश्य तेषां च चक्रे राजौर्ध्वदैहिकम् ॥१२-४२-६॥
ye cānye pṛthivīpālā yeṣāṃ nāsti suhṛjjanaḥ। uddiśyoddiśya teṣāṃ ca cakre rājaurdhvadaihikam ॥12-42-6॥

(Who and other earth-protectors (kings), of whom there is not a well-wisher (friend), having pointed out (one by one), of them also the king performed the funeral rites.)
The king performed the funeral rites for those other kings, who had no friends or well-wishers, after identifying them one by one.
सभाः प्रपाश्च विविधास्तडागानि च पाण्डवः। सुहृदां कारयामास सर्वेषामौर्ध्वदैहिकम् ॥१२-४२-७॥
sabhāḥ prapāś ca vividhās taḍāgāni ca pāṇḍavaḥ। suhṛdāṃ kārayām āsa sarveṣām aurdhvadehikam ॥12-42-7॥
[सभाः (sabhāḥ) - assemblies; प्रपाः (prapāḥ) - resting-places; च (ca) - and; विविधाः (vividhāḥ) - various; तडागानि (taḍāgāni) - ponds; च (ca) - and; पाण्डवः (pāṇḍavaḥ) - the son of Pāṇḍu; सुहृदां (suhṛdām) - of friends; कारयामास (kārayām āsa) - caused to be performed; सर्वेषाम् (sarveṣām) - of all; और्ध्वदैहिकम् (aurdhvadehikam) - funeral rites;]
(Assemblies, resting-places, and various ponds, the son of Pāṇḍu (Arjuna) caused to be made. For all friends, he caused the funeral rites to be performed.)

स तेषामनृणो भूत्वा गत्वा लोकेष्ववाच्यताम्। कृतकृत्योऽभवद्राजा प्रजा धर्मेण पालयन् ॥१२-४२-८॥
sa teṣāmanṛṇo bhūtvā gatvā lokeṣvavācyatām। kṛtakṛtyo'bhavad rājā prajā dharmeṇa pālayan ॥12-42-8॥
[स (sa) - he; तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; अनृणः (anṛṇaḥ) - free from debt; भूत्वा (bhūtvā) - having become; गत्वा (gatvā) - having gone; लोकेषु (lokeṣu) - among the worlds; अवाच्यताम् (avācyatām) - state of being beyond reproach; कृतकृत्यः (kṛtakṛtyaḥ) - one who has accomplished his duty; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; राजा (rājā) - the king; प्रजाः (prajāḥ) - subjects; धर्मेण (dharmeṇa) - by righteousness; पालयन् (pālayan) - protecting;]
(He, having become free from debt to them, having gone among the worlds to a state beyond reproach, became a king who had accomplished his duty, protecting the subjects by righteousness.)
Having discharged all his obligations to them, and attaining a state beyond reproach among the worlds, the king, having fulfilled his duties, ruled his subjects with righteousness.
धृतराष्ट्रं यथापूर्वं गान्धारीं विदुरं तथा। सर्वांश्च कौरवामात्यान्भृत्यांश्च समपूजयत् ॥१२-४२-९॥
dhṛtarāṣṭraṃ yathāpūrvaṃ gāndhārīṃ viduraṃ tathā। sarvāṃś ca kauravāmātyān bhṛtyāṃś ca samapūjayat ॥12-42-9॥
[धृतराष्ट्रम् (dhṛtarāṣṭram) - Dhritarashtra; यथा (yathā) - as; पूर्वम् (pūrvam) - before; गान्धारीम् (gāndhārīm) - Gandhari; विदुरम् (viduram) - Vidura; तथा (tathā) - also; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; च (ca) - and; कौरवामात्यान् (kauravāmātyān) - Kaurava ministers; भृत्यान् (bhṛtyān) - servants; च (ca) - and; समपूजयत् (samapūjayat) - honored equally;]
(Dhritarashtra as before, Gandhari, Vidura also, all and Kaurava ministers, servants and honored equally.)
He honored Dhritarashtra as before, as well as Gandhari and Vidura, and he equally honored all the Kaurava ministers and servants.
याश्च तत्र स्त्रियः काश्चिद्धतवीरा हतात्मजाः। सर्वास्ताः कौरवो राजा सम्पूज्यापालयद्घृणी ॥१२-४२-१०॥
yāś ca tatra striyaḥ kāścid dhatavīrā hatātmajāḥ। sarvāstāḥ kauravo rājā sampūjyā pālayad ghṛṇī ॥12-42-10॥
[याः (yāḥ) - who (feminine, plural); च (ca) - and; तत्र (tatra) - there; स्त्रियः (striyaḥ) - women; काश्चित् (kāścit) - some; हतवीराः (hatavīrāḥ) - whose heroes (husbands/sons) were slain; हतात्मजाः (hatātmajāḥ) - whose sons were slain; सर्वाः (sarvāḥ) - all; ताः (tāḥ) - those; कौरवः (kauravaḥ) - the Kaurava (descendant of Kuru, i.e., Yudhishthira); राजा (rājā) - king; सम्पूज्य (sampūjya) - having honored; अपालयत् (apālayat) - protected; घृणी (ghṛṇī) - the compassionate one;]
(And those women there, some whose heroes were slain, whose sons were slain, all those, the Kaurava king, having honored, the compassionate one, protected.)
And there, the Kaurava king, out of compassion, honored and protected all those women, some of whom had lost their husbands or sons.
दीनान्धकृपणानां च गृहाच्छादनभोजनैः। आनृशंस्यपरो राजा चकारानुग्रहं प्रभुः ॥१२-४२-११॥
dīnāndhakṛpaṇānāṃ ca gṛhācchādanabhojanaiḥ। ānṛśaṃsyaparo rājā cakārānugrahaṃ prabhuḥ ॥12-42-11॥
[दीन (dīna) - poor; अन्ध (andha) - blind; कृपणानाम् (kṛpaṇānām) - of the miserable; च (ca) - and; गृह (gṛha) - house; आच्छादन (ācchādana) - covering; भोजनैः (bhojanaiḥ) - with food; आनृशंस्य (ānṛśaṃsya) - compassion; परः (paraḥ) - supreme; राजा (rājā) - king; चकार (cakāra) - did; अनुग्रहम् (anugraham) - favor; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - the lord;]
(To the poor, blind, and miserable, with house, covering, and food, the king, supreme in compassion, the lord, did favor.)
The king, who was supremely compassionate, bestowed his favor upon the poor, the blind, and the miserable by providing them with shelter, clothing, and food.
स विजित्य महीं कृत्स्नामानृण्यं प्राप्य वैरिषु। निःसपत्नः सुखी राजा विजहार युधिष्ठिरः ॥१२-४२-१२॥
sa vijitya mahīṃ kṛtsnām ānṛṇyaṃ prāpya vairiṣu। niḥsapatnaḥ sukhī rājā vijahāra yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ॥12-42-12॥
[स (sa) - he; विजित्य (vijitya) - having conquered; महीं (mahīm) - the earth; कृत्स्नाम् (kṛtsnām) - entire; आनृण्यं (ānṛṇyam) - freedom from debt; प्राप्य (prāpya) - having obtained; वैरिषु (vairiṣu) - among enemies; निःसपत्नः (niḥsapatnaḥ) - without rivals; सुखी (sukhī) - happy; राजा (rājā) - king; विजहार (vijahāra) - enjoyed; युधिष्ठिरः (yudhiṣṭhiraḥ) - Yudhishthira;]
(He, having conquered the entire earth, having obtained freedom from debt among enemies, being without rivals, the happy king Yudhishthira enjoyed.)
Having conquered the whole earth and freed himself from all debts to his enemies, King Yudhishthira, without any rivals, lived happily.
