सूर्य उवाच॥

(Sun said;)
The Sun said.
नैष देवोऽनिलसखो नासुरो न च पन्नगः। उञ्छवृत्तिव्रते सिद्धो मुनिरेष दिवं गतः ॥१२-३५१-१॥
naiṣa devo'nilasakho nāsuro na ca pannagaḥ। uñchavṛttivrate siddho munireṣa divaṃ gataḥ ॥12-351-1॥
[नैष (naiṣa) - this (person); देवः (devaḥ) - god; अनिलसखः (anilasakhaḥ) - friend of wind (Vāyu); न (na) - not; असुरः (asuraḥ) - demon; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; पन्नगः (pannagaḥ) - serpent; उञ्छवृत्तिव्रते (uñchavṛttivrate) - in the vow of gleaning livelihood; सिद्धः (siddhaḥ) - perfected being; मुनिः (muniḥ) - sage; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this (person); दिवम् (divam) - heaven; गतः (gataḥ) - gone;]
(This is not a god, not a friend of wind, not a demon, nor a serpent. This sage, perfected in the vow of gleaning livelihood, has gone to heaven.)
He is neither a god, nor a friend of the wind, nor a demon, nor a serpent. This sage, accomplished in the vow of gleaning livelihood, has ascended to heaven. (12-351-1)
एष मूलफलाहारः शीर्णपर्णाशनस्तथा। अब्भक्षो वायुभक्षश्च आसीद्विप्रः समाहितः ॥१२-३५१-२॥
eṣa mūlaphalāhāraḥ śīrṇaparṇāśanastathā। abbhakṣo vāyubhakṣaśca āsīdvipraḥ samāhitaḥ ॥12-351-2॥
[एष (eṣa) - this; मूल (mūla) - root; फल (phala) - fruit; आहारः (āhāraḥ) - food; शीर्ण (śīrṇa) - withered; पर्ण (parṇa) - leaf; आशनः (āśanaḥ) - eater; तथा (tathā) - also; अब्भक्षः (abbhakṣaḥ) - water-eater; वायुभक्षः (vāyubhakṣaḥ) - air-eater; च (ca) - and; आसीत् (āsīt) - was; विप्रः (vipraḥ) - brāhmaṇa; समाहितः (samāhitaḥ) - concentrated;]
(This root-fruit-food withered-leaf-eater also water-eater air-eater and was brāhmaṇa concentrated.)
This brāhmaṇa, concentrated in mind, lived on roots and fruits, also ate withered leaves, and at times subsisted on water and air. (12-351-2)
ऋचश्चानेन विप्रेण संहितान्तरभिष्टुताः। स्वर्गद्वारकृतोद्योगो येनासौ त्रिदिवं गतः ॥१२-३५१-३॥
ṛcaś cānena vipreṇa saṁhitāntara-bhiṣṭutāḥ। svarga-dvāra-kṛtod-yogo yenāsau tridivaṁ gataḥ ॥12-351-3॥
[ऋचः (ṛcaḥ) - hymns; च (ca) - and; अनेन (anena) - by this; विप्रेण (vipreṇa) - by the sage; संहिता-अन्तर-भिष्टुताः (saṁhitāntara-bhiṣṭutāḥ) - praised in another collection; स्वर्ग-द्वार-कृत-उद्योगः (svarga-dvāra-kṛtod-yogaḥ) - one who made effort at the gate of heaven; येन (yena) - by whom; असौ (asau) - he; त्रिदिवं (tridivaṁ) - to heaven; गतः (gataḥ) - went;]
(Hymns and by this sage, praised in another collection; one who made effort at the gate of heaven, by whom he went to heaven.)

असन्नधीरनाकाङ्क्षी नित्यमुञ्छशिलाशनः। सर्वभूतहिते युक्त एष विप्रो भुजङ्गम ॥१२-३५१-४॥
asannadhīranākāṅkṣī nityamuñchaśilāśanaḥ। sarvabhūtahite yukta eṣa vipro bhujaṅgama ॥12-351-4॥
[असन् (asan) - not being; अधीर (adhīra) - unsteady; अनाकाङ्क्षी (anākāṅkṣī) - without desire; नित्य (nitya) - always; मुन्छ (muñcha) - discarding; शिला (śilā) - stone; शनः (śanaḥ) - eating; सर्व (sarva) - all; भूत (bhūta) - beings; हिते (hite) - in the welfare; युक्त (yukta) - engaged; एष (eṣa) - this; विप्र (vipra) - brāhmaṇa; भुजङ्गम (bhujaṅgama) - serpent;]
(Not being, unsteady, without desire, always discarding, stone-eating, engaged in the welfare of all beings, this brāhmaṇa serpent.)
This brāhmaṇa serpent is not steady, without desire, always discarding, subsisting on stones, and engaged in the welfare of all beings. (12-351-4)
न हि देवा न गन्धर्वा नासुरा न च पन्नगाः। प्रभवन्तीह भूतानां प्राप्तानां परमां गतिम् ॥१२-३५१-५॥
na hi devā na gandharvā nāsurā na ca pannagāḥ। prabhavantīha bhūtānāṃ prāptānāṃ paramāṃ gatim ॥12-351-5॥
[न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; देवा (devā) - gods; न (na) - not; गन्धर्वा (gandharvā) - gandharvas; नासुरा (na asurā) - not demons; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; पन्नगाः (pannagāḥ) - serpents; प्रभवन्ति (prabhavanti) - are able; इह (iha) - here; भूतानाम् (bhūtānām) - of beings; प्राप्तानाम् (prāptānām) - of those who have attained; परमाम् (paramām) - supreme; गतिम् (gatim) - state;]
(Not indeed the gods, not the gandharvas, not the demons, nor even the serpents here are able (to do) for beings who have attained the supreme state.)
Indeed, neither the gods, nor the gandharvas, nor the demons, nor even the serpents here are able to influence beings who have attained the supreme state. (12-351-5)
नाग उवाच॥
nāga uvāca॥
[नाग (nāga) - serpent; उवाच (uvāca) - said;]
(Serpent said;)
The serpent said.
एतदेवंविधं दृष्टमाश्चर्यं तत्र मे द्विज। संसिद्धो मानुषः कायो योऽसौ सिद्धगतिं गतः ॥१२-३५१-६॥
etadevaṃ-vidhaṃ dṛṣṭam āścaryaṃ tatra me dvija। saṃsiddho mānuṣaḥ kāyaḥ yaḥ asau siddha-gatim gataḥ ॥12-351-6॥
[एतत् (etat) - this; एवंविधम् (evaṃ-vidham) - of such kind; दृष्टम् (dṛṣṭam) - seen; आश्चर्यम् (āścaryam) - wonder; तत्र (tatra) - there; मे (me) - by me; द्विज (dvija) - O twice-born; संसिद्धः (saṃsiddhaḥ) - perfected; मानुषः (mānuṣaḥ) - human; कायः (kāyaḥ) - body; यः (yaḥ) - who; असौ (asau) - that; सिद्धगतिम् (siddha-gatim) - the state of the perfected; गतः (gataḥ) - has gone;]
(This of such kind seen wonder there by me O twice-born; perfected human body who that the state of the perfected has gone.)
O twice-born, there I saw this wondrous thing: that perfected human body has attained the state of the perfected. (12-351-6)
सूर्येण सहितो ब्रह्मन्पृथिवीं परिवर्तते ॥१२-३५१-६॥
sūryeṇa sahito brahman pṛthivīṃ parivartate ॥12-351-6॥
[सूर्येण (sūryeṇa) - by the sun; सहितः (sahitaḥ) - together with; ब्रह्मन् (brahman) - O Brahman; पृथिवीम् (pṛthivīm) - the earth; परिवर्तते (parivartate) - revolves;]
(By the sun, together with, O Brahman, the earth revolves.)
O Brahman, the earth revolves together with the sun. (12-351-6)
