etac chrutvā vacas tasya vānarendrasya dhīmataḥ। bhīmasenas tadā vīraḥ provācāmitrakarśanaḥ॥03-147-1॥

को भवान्किंनिमित्तं वा वानरं वपुराश्रितः। ब्राह्मणानन्तरो वर्णः क्षत्रियस्त्वानुपृच्छति ॥०३-१४७-२॥
ko bhavān kiṁ-nimittaṁ vā vānaraṁ vapuḥ āśritaḥ। brāhmaṇa-anantaro varṇaḥ kṣatriyaḥ tvām anupṛcchati ॥03-147-2॥

Who are you, and for what reason have you assumed the form of a vanara? The Kshatriya, the caste immediately after the Brahmana, asks you. (03-147-2)
कौरवः सोमवंशीयः कुन्त्या गर्भेण धारितः। पाण्डवो वायुतनयो भीमसेन इति श्रुतः ॥०३-१४७-३॥
kauravaḥ somavaṃśīyaḥ kuntyā garbheṇa dhāritaḥ। pāṇḍavo vāyutanayo bhīmasena iti śrutaḥ॥03-147-3॥

स वाक्यं भीमसेनस्य स्मितेन प्रतिगृह्य तत्। हनूमान्वायुतनयो वायुपुत्रमभाषत ॥०३-१४७-४॥
sa vākyaṁ bhīmasenasya smitena pratigṛhya tat। hanūmānvāyutanayo vāyuputram abhāṣata ॥03-147-4॥

वानरोऽहं न ते मार्गं प्रदास्यामि यथेप्सितम्। साधु गच्छ निवर्तस्व मा त्वं प्राप्स्यसि वैशसम् ॥०३-१४७-५॥
vānarō'ham na te mārgaṁ pradāsyāmi yathepsitam। sādhu gaccha nivartasva mā tvaṁ prāpsyasi vaiśasam ॥03-147-5॥

(I am a monkey; I will not give to you the path as desired. Well, go, turn back; do not, you shall attain misfortune.)

(Calamity or let it be whatever else, not you I ask, monkey. Give, arise, the way to me; do not, you will attain destruction.)
Let it be calamity or anything else, I do not ask you, monkey. Grant me the way, arise, otherwise you will meet with destruction. (3-147-6)

नास्ति शक्तिर्ममोत्थातुं व्याधिना क्लेशितो ह्यहम्। यद्यवश्यं प्रयातव्यं लङ्घयित्वा प्रयाहि माम् ॥०३-१४७-७॥
nāsti śaktir mamotthātuṃ vyādhinā kleśito hy aham। yady avaśyaṃ prayātavyaṃ laghyaṭvā prayāhi mām॥03-147-7॥
[नास्ति (nāsti) - is not; शक्तिः (śaktiḥ) - strength; मम (mama) - of me; उत्थातुम् (utthātum) - to rise; व्याधिना (vyādhinā) - by disease; क्लेशितः (kleśitaḥ) - afflicted; हि (hi) - indeed; अहम् (aham) - I; यदि (yadi) - if; अवश्यम् (avaśyam) - necessarily; प्रयातव्यम् (prayātavyam) - is to be gone; लङ्घयित्वा (laghyaṭvā) - having crossed; प्रयाहि (prayāhi) - go forth; माम् (mām) - me;]
(There is not strength of me to rise; by disease afflicted indeed I; if necessarily must be gone, having crossed, go forth me.)
I do not have the strength to rise; I am indeed afflicted by disease. If it is absolutely necessary to go, pass over me and proceed. (03-147-7)

nirguṇaḥ paramātmeti dehaṁ te vyāpya tiṣṭhati। tam ahaṁ jñānavijñeyaṁ nāvamanye na laṅghaye ॥03-147-8॥
[निर्गुणः (nirguṇaḥ) - without qualities; परमात्मा (paramātmā) - supreme self; इति (iti) - thus; देहं (deham) - body; ते (te) - your; व्याप्य (vyāpya) - pervading; तिष्ठति (tiṣṭhati) - remains; तम् (tam) - him; अहम् (aham) - I; ज्ञानविज्ञेयं (jñānavijñeyam) - to be known by knowledge and realization; न (na) - not; अवमन्ये (avamanye) - I disdain; न (na) - not; लङ्घये (laṅghaye) - violate;]
(Without qualities, thus (called) supreme self, pervading your body remains. Him I, to be known by knowledge and realization, do not disdain, do not violate.)
The one who is without qualities, called the supreme self, pervades your body and remains there. Him, who is to be realized through knowledge, I neither disdain nor transgress. (03-147-8)
यद्यागमैर्न विन्देयं तमहं भूतभावनम्। क्रमेयं त्वां गिरिं चेमं हनूमानिव सागरम् ॥०३-१४७-९॥
yady āgamair na vindeyaṁ tam ahaṁ bhūtabhāvanam। krameyaṁ tvāṁ giriṁ cemaṁ hanūmān iva sāgaram॥03-147-9॥
[यदि (yadi) - if; आगमैः (āgamaiḥ) - by methods; न (na) - not; विन्देयं (vindeyam) - I would find; तम् (tam) - that (him); अहम् (aham) - I; भूतभावनम् (bhūtabhāvanam) - creator of beings; क्रमेयम् (krameyam) - I would cross; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; गिरिम् (girim) - mountain; च (ca) - and; इमम् (imam) - this; हनूमान् (hanūmān) - Hanuman; इव (iva) - like; सागरम् (sāgaram) - ocean;]
(If by methods I would not find that creator of beings, I would cross you, this mountain, like Hanuman the ocean.)
If by any means I do not find that creator of beings, I will cross over you, this mountain, just as Hanuman crossed the ocean. (03-147-9)

रामपत्नीकृते येन शतयोजनमायतः। सागरः प्लवगेन्द्रेण क्रमेणैकेन लङ्घितः ॥०३-१४७-१२॥
rāmapatnīkṛte yena śatayojanamāyataḥ। sāgaraḥ plavagendreṇa krameṇaikena laṅghitaḥ ॥03-147-12॥
[रामपत्नीकृते (rāmapatnīkṛte) - for the sake of Rāma's wife; येन (yena) - by whom; शतयोजनमायतः (śatayojanamāyataḥ) - one hundred yojanas wide; सागरः (sāgaraḥ) - the ocean; प्लवगेन्द्रेण (plavagendreṇa) - by the lord of the monkeys; क्रमेण (krameṇa) - in course; एकेन (ekena) - by one; लङ्घितः (laṅghitaḥ) - was crossed;]

(He my brother of great energy, I am equal; by his vigor in strength, in prowess, in battle, capable I am in restraining you.)
He is my brother of great energy; I am equal to him. By his vigor, I am capable in strength, in prowess and in battle, and I am able to restrain you. (3-147-13)
उत्तिष्ठ देहि मे मार्गं पश्य वा मेऽद्य पौरुषम्। मच्छासनमकुर्वाणं मा त्वा नेष्ये यमक्षयम् ॥०३-१४७-१४॥
uttiṣṭha dehi me mārgaṃ paśya vā me'dya pauruṣam। macchāsanam akurvāṇaṃ mā tvā neṣye yamakṣayam ॥03-147-14॥
[उत्तिष्ठ (uttiṣṭha) - arise; देहि (dehi) - give; मे (me) - to me; मार्गं (mārgaṃ) - path; पश्य (paśya) - see; वा (vā) - or; मेऽद्य (me'dya) - my today; पौरुषम् (pauruṣam) - manliness; मच्छासनम् (macchāsanam) - my command; अकुर्वाणं (akurvāṇam) - not obeying; मा (mā) - do not; त्वा (tvā) - you; नेष्ये (neṣye) - will take; यमक्षयम् (yamakṣayam) - the abode of Yama;]
(Arise; give to me the path; or see my today-manliness. My command not obeying, do not you - I will take (you) to the abode of Yama.)
Arise and give me passage, or witness my strength today. If you do not obey my command, I shall take you to the abode of Yama. (03-147-14)

vijñāya taṃ balonmattaṃ bāhuvīryeṇa garvitam। hṛdayenāvahasya enaṃ hanūmān vākyam abravīt ॥03-147-15॥
[विज्ञाय (vijñāya) - having understood; तं (taṃ) - him; बलोन्मत्तं (balonmattaṃ) - intoxicated with strength; बाहुवीर्येण (bāhuvīryeṇa) - by the might of his arms; गर्वितम् (garvitam) - arrogant; हृदयेन (hṛdayena) - in his heart; अवहस्य (avahasya) - having laughed at; एनं (enaṃ) - at him; हनूमान् (hanūmān) - Hanuman; वाक्यम् (vākyam) - words; अब्रवीत् (abravīt) - spoke;]
(Having understood him, intoxicated with strength, arrogant by the might of his arms, Hanuman in his heart having laughed at him spoke words.)
Hanuman, having recognized that he was intoxicated with strength and arrogant about the might of his arms, inwardly laughed at him and spoke these words. (03-147-15)
प्रसीद नास्ति मे शक्तिरुत्थातुं जरयानघ। ममानुकम्पया त्वेतत्पुच्छमुत्सार्य गम्यताम् ॥०३-१४७-१६॥
prasīda nāsti me śaktirutthātuṃ jarayānagha। mamānukampayā tvetatpuccham utsārya gamyatām ॥03-147-16॥
[प्रसीद (prasīda) - be gracious; नास्ति (nāsti) - there is not; मे (me) - to me; शक्तिः (śaktiḥ) - strength; उत्थातुम् (utthātum) - to rise; जरया (jarayā) - by old age; अनघ (anagha) - O sinless one; मम (mama) - my; अनुकम्पया (anukampayā) - out of compassion; त्वम् (tvam) - you; एतत् (etat) - this; पुच्छम् (puccham) - tail; उत्सार्य (utsārya) - removing; गम्यताम् (gamyatām) - may it be gone;]
(Be gracious; there is not to me strength to rise by old age, O sinless one. By my compassion, you, this tail removing, may it be gone.)
Be gracious, O sinless one; I have no strength to rise due to old age. Out of compassion for me, please move this tail aside and go. (03-147-16)
सावज्ञमथ वामेन स्मयञ्जग्राह पाणिना। न चाशकच्चालयितुं भीमः पुच्छं महाकपेः ॥०३-१४७-१७॥
sāvajñam atha vāmena smayañ jagrāha pāṇinā। na ca aśakac cālayituṃ bhīmaḥ pucchaṃ mahākapeḥ॥03-147-17॥
[सावज्ञम् (sāvajñam) - with disdain; अथ (atha) - then; वामेन (vāmena) - with the left (hand); स्मयन् (smayan) - smiling; जग्राह (jagrāha) - seized; पाणिना (pāṇinā) - with (his) hand; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; अशकत्त् (aśakac) - was able; चालयितुम् (cālayitum) - to move; भीमः (bhīmaḥ) - Bhima; पुच्छम् (puccham) - tail; महाकपेः (mahākapeḥ) - of the great monkey;]
(With disdain then with the left hand, smiling, (he) seized with hand. Not and was able to move Bhima the tail of the great monkey.)
Then, with disdain, Bhima smilingly seized the tail of the great monkey with his left hand, but he was not able to move it. (03-147-17)
उच्चिक्षेप पुनर्दोर्भ्यामिन्द्रायुधमिवोच्छ्रितम्। नोद्धर्तुमशकद्भीमो दोर्भ्यामपि महाबलः ॥०३-१४७-१८॥
uccikṣepa punar-dorbhyām indrāyudham iva uccritam। noddhartum aśakad bhīmo dorbhyām api mahābalaḥ॥03-147-18॥
[उच्चिक्षेप (uccikṣepa) - he hurled; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; दोर्भ्याम् (dorbhyām) - with both arms; इन्द्रायुधम् (indrāyudham) - Indra's weapon; इव (iva) - like; उच्छ्रितम् (uccritam) - raised up; न (na) - not; उद्धर्तुम् (uddhartum) - to lift; अशकत् (aśakat) - was able; भीमः (bhīmaḥ) - Bhima; दोर्भ्याम् (dorbhyām) - with both arms; अपि (api) - even; महाबलः (mahābalaḥ) - the mighty one;]
(He hurled again with both arms, like Indra's weapon raised up. Bhima, the mighty one, even with both arms, was not able to lift it.)

उत्क्षिप्तभ्रूर्विवृत्ताक्षः संहतभ्रुकुटीमुखः। स्विन्नगात्रोऽभवद्भीमो न चोद्धर्तुं शशाक ह ॥०३-१४७-१९॥
utkṣiptabhṝr vivṛttākṣaḥ saṁhatabhrukuṭīmukhaḥ। svinnagātro'bhavad bhīmo na coddhartuṁ śaśāka ha॥03-147-19॥
[उत्क्षिप्तभ्रूः (utkṣipta-bhrūḥ) - with raised eyebrows; विवृत्ताक्षः (vivṛtta-akṣaḥ) - with wide-open eyes; संहतभ्रुकुटीमुखः (saṁhata-bhrukuṭī-mukhaḥ) - with a face of contracted eyebrows; स्विन्नगात्रः (svinna-gātraḥ) - with perspiring limbs; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; भीमः (bhīmaḥ) - Bhima; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; उद्धर्तुम् (uddhartum) - to lift; शशाक (śaśāka) - was able; ह (ha) - indeed;]
(With raised eyebrows, with wide-open eyes, with a face of contracted eyebrows, with perspiring limbs, Bhima became (thus), and was not able to lift indeed.)
Bhima, with his eyebrows raised, eyes wide open, face contracted in anger, and body perspiring, became like this, yet was not able to lift it indeed. (03-147-19)
यत्नवानपि तु श्रीमाँल्लाङ्गूलोद्धरणोद्धुतः। कपेः पार्श्वगतो भीमस्तस्थौ व्रीडादधोमुखः ॥०३-१४७-२०॥

(Striving even, but illustrious, with the tail raised and shaken; by the side of the monkey, Bhima stood, with shame, head bowed down.)
Although he strove, the illustrious Bhima, with his head bowed in shame, stood by the side of the monkey whose tail was raised and shaken. (03-147-20)
प्रणिपत्य च कौन्तेयः प्राञ्जलिर्वाक्यमब्रवीत्। प्रसीद कपिशार्दूल दुरुक्तं क्षम्यतां मम ॥०३-१४७-२१॥
praṇipatya ca kaunteyaḥ prāñjalir vākyam abravīt। prasīda kapiśārdūla duruktaṃ kṣamyatāṃ mama ॥03-147-21॥

siddho vā yadi vā devo gandharvo vātha guhyakaḥ। pṛṣṭaḥ san kāmayā brūhi kas tvaṃ vānararūpadhṛk ॥03-147-22॥

yat te mama parijñāne kautūhalam ariṃdama। tat sarvam akhilena tvaṃ śṛṇu pāṇḍavanandana ॥03-147-23॥

अहं केसरिणः क्षेत्रे वायुना जगदायुषा। जातः कमलपत्राक्ष हनूमान्नाम वानरः ॥०३-१४७-२४॥
ahaṃ kesariṇaḥ kṣetre vāyunā jagadāyuṣā। jātaḥ kamalapatrākṣa hanūmānnāma vānaraḥ ॥03-147-24॥

सूर्यपुत्रं च सुग्रीवं शक्रपुत्रं च वालिनम्। सर्ववानरराजानौ सर्ववानरयूथपाः ॥०३-१४७-२५॥
sūryaputraṃ ca sugrīvaṃ śakraputraṃ ca vālinam। sarvavānararājānau sarvavānarayūthapāḥ ॥03-147-25॥
[सूर्यपुत्रं (sūryaputram) - the son of the Sun (Sūrya); च (ca) - and; सुग्रीवं (sugrīvam) - Sugrīva; शक्रपुत्रं (śakraputram) - the son of Śakra (Indra); च (ca) - and; वालिनम् (vālinam) - Vālin; सर्ववानरराजानौ (sarvavānararājānau) - the two supreme kings of all the vānaras; सर्ववानरयूथपाः (sarvavānarayūthapāḥ) - all the chiefs of the vānaras;]

उपतस्थुर्महावीर्या मम चामित्रकर्शन। सुग्रीवेणाभवत्प्रीतिरनिलस्याग्निना यथा ॥०३-१४७-२६॥
upatastur mahā-vīryā mama ca amitra-karśana। sugrīveṇa abhavat prītiḥ anilasya agninā yathā ॥03-147-26॥
[उपतस्थुḥ (upatastur) - (they) approached; (they) attended; महावीर्याः (mahā-vīryāḥ) - greatly valiant ones; मम (mama) - my; च (ca) - and; अमित्रकर्शन (amitra-karśana) - enemy-subduer; सुग्रीवेण (sugrīveṇa) - by Sugrīva; अभवत् (abhavat) - was; (there) became; प्रीति: (prītiḥ) - friendship; अनिलस्य (anilasya) - of the wind (god); अग्निना (agninā) - with the fire (god); यथा (yathā) - as; just as;]
(The greatly valiant (ones) and the enemy-subduer of my (side) approached; as there was friendship of the wind (god) with the fire (god) by Sugrīva.)
The greatly valiant monkeys and the subduer of my enemies approached me; the friendship formed by Sugrīva was like that between the wind-god and the fire-god. (03-147-26)
निकृतः स ततो भ्रात्रा कस्मिंश्चित्कारणान्तरे। ऋश्यमूके मया सार्धं सुग्रीवो न्यवसच्चिरम् ॥०३-१४७-२७॥
nikṛtaḥ sa tato bhrātrā kasmiṃścit kāraṇāntare. ṛśyamūke mayā sārdhaṃ sugrīvo nyavasacciram ॥03-147-27॥
[निकृतः (nikṛtaḥ) - deceived; स (sa) - he; ततः (tataḥ) - thereafter; भ्रात्रा (bhrātrā) - by his brother; कस्मिंश्चित् (kasmiṃścit) - for some; कारणान्तरे (kāraṇāntare) - other reason; ऋश्यमूके (ṛśyamūke) - at Ṛśyamūka (mountain); मया (mayā) - with me; सार्धं (sārdham) - together; सुग्रीवः (sugrīvaḥ) - Sugrīva; न्यवसत् (nyavasat) - lived; चिरम् (ciram) - for a long time;]
(deceived he thereafter by his brother for some other reason at Ṛśyamūka with me together Sugrīva lived for a long time.)
Having been deceived by his brother for some other reason, Sugrīva then lived together with me at Ṛśyamūka for a long time. (03-147-27)
अथ दाशरथिर्वीरो रामो नाम महाबलः। विष्णुर्मानुषरूपेण चचार वसुधामिमाम् ॥०३-१४७-२८॥
atha dāśarathir vīro rāmo nāma mahābalaḥ। viṣṇur mānuṣarūpeṇa cacāra vasudhām imām ॥03-147-28॥
[अथ (atha) - then; दाशरथिः (dāśarathiḥ) - son of Daśaratha; वीरः (vīraḥ) - hero; रामः (rāmaḥ) - Rāma; नाम (nāma) - by name; महाबलः (mahābalaḥ) - of great strength; विष्णुः (viṣṇuḥ) - Viṣṇu; मानुषरूपेण (mānuṣarūpeṇa) - in human form; चचार (cacāra) - moved; wandered; वसुधाम् (vasudhām) - the earth; इमाम् (imām) - this;]
(Then the son of Daśaratha, the hero Rāma by name, of great strength, Viṣṇu in human form, moved on this earth.)
Then the heroic son of Daśaratha, Rāma by name, of great strength—Viṣṇu himself in human form—wandered on this earth. (03-147-28)
स पितुः प्रियमन्विच्छन्सहभार्यः सहानुजः। सधनुर्धन्विनां श्रेष्ठो दण्डकारण्यमाश्रितः ॥०३-१४७-२९॥
sa pituḥ priyam anvicchan saha-bhāryaḥ saha-anujaḥ। sa-dhanuḥ dhanvināṃ śreṣṭhaḥ daṇḍakāraṇyam āśritaḥ ॥03-147-29॥
[स (sa) - he; पितुः (pituḥ) - of father; प्रियम् (priyam) - pleasing; beloved; desired; अन्विच्छन् (anvicchan) - searching; seeking; सहभार्यः (saha-bhāryaḥ) - with wife; सहानुजः (saha-anujaḥ) - with younger brother; सधनुः (sa-dhanuḥ) - with bow; धन्विनां (dhanvinām) - among bowmen; श्रेष्ठः (śreṣṭhaḥ) - the best; excellent; दण्डकारण्यम् (daṇḍakāraṇyam) - Daṇḍaka forest; आश्रितः (āśritaḥ) - having resorted to; dwelling in;]
(He, of father beloved seeking, with wife, with younger brother, with bow, among bowmen best, Daṇḍaka forest having resorted to.)
He, seeking his father’s pleasure, together with his wife and younger brother, bearing his bow as the best of bowmen, has taken up residence in the Daṇḍaka forest. (03-147-29)
तस्य भार्या जनस्थानाद्रावणेन हृता बलात्। वञ्चयित्वा महाबुद्धिं मृगरूपेण राघवम् ॥०३-१४७-३०॥
tasya bhāryā janasthānādrāvaṇena hṛtā balāt। vañcayitvā mahābuddhiṁ mṛgarūpeṇa rāghavam ॥03-147-30॥

His wife was taken away by Rāvaṇa by force from Janasthāna, after deceiving the greatly wise Rāghava in the form of a deer. (03-147-30)
हृतदारः सह भ्रात्रा पत्नीं मार्गन्स राघवः। दृष्टवाञ्शैलशिखरे सुग्रीवं वानरर्षभम् ॥०३-१४७-३१॥
hṛtadāraḥ saha bhrātrā patnīṁ margan sa rāghavaḥ। dṛṣṭavāñśailaśikhare sugrīvaṁ vānararṣabham॥03-147-31॥
[हृतदारः (hṛtadāraḥ) - whose wife is taken away; सह (saha) - together with; भ्रात्रा (bhrātrā) - with (his) brother; पत्नीं (patnīṁ) - wife; मार्गन् (margan) - searching; स (sa) - he; राघवः (rāghavaḥ) - Rāghava (descendant of Raghu); दृष्टवान् (dṛṣṭavān) - saw; शैलशिखरे (śailaśikhare) - on the mountain peak; सुग्रीवम् (sugrīvam) - Sugrīva; वानरर्षभम् (vānararṣabham) - best of monkeys;]
(Whose wife is taken away, together with (his) brother, wife searching, he Rāghava saw on the mountain peak Sugrīva, best of monkeys.)
Rāghava, whose wife had been taken away, while searching for his wife together with his brother, saw Sugrīva, the best of monkeys, on the mountain peak. (03-147-31)
तेन तस्याभवत्सख्यं राघवस्य महात्मनः। स हत्वा वालिनं राज्ये सुग्रीवं प्रत्यपादयत् ॥ स हरीन्प्रेषयामास सीतायाः परिमार्गणे ॥०३-१४७-३२॥
tena tasyābhavatsakhyaṃ rāghavasya mahātmanaḥ। sa hatvā vālinaṃ rājyē sugrīvaṃ pratyapādayat॥ sa harīn preṣayāmāsa sītāyāḥ parimārgaṇē॥03-147-32॥
[तेन (tena) - by him; तस्य (tasya) - of him; अभवत् (abhavat) - became; सख्यं (sakhyaṃ) - friendship; राघवस्य (rāghavasya) - of Rāghava; महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - the great-souled; स (sa) - he; हत्वा (hatvā) - having slain; वालिनं (vālinaṃ) - Vālin; राज्ये (rājye) - in the kingdom; सुग्रीवं (sugrīvaṃ) - Sugrīva; प्रत्यपादयत् (pratyapādayat) - restored; स (sa) - he; हरीन् (harīn) - the monkeys; प्रेषयामास (preṣayāmāsa) - sent; सीतायाः (sītāyāḥ) - of Sītā; परिमार्गणे (parimārgaṇe) - for the search;]
(By him, of him, became friendship of Rāghava, the great-souled. He, having slain Vālin, in the kingdom restored Sugrīva. He sent the monkeys for the search of Sītā. (03-147-32))
Through him, friendship arose with Rāghava, the great-souled one. He, having slain Vālin, restored Sugrīva to the kingdom. He sent the monkeys to search for Sītā. (03-147-32)
ततो वानरकोटीभिर्यां वयं प्रस्थिता दिशम्। तत्र प्रवृत्तिः सीताया गृध्रेण प्रतिपादिता ॥०३-१४७-३३॥
tato vānarakoṭībhi ryāṃ vayaṃ prasthitā diśam। tatra pravṛttiḥ sītāyā gṛdhreṇa pratipāditā ॥03-147-33॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; वानरकोटीभिः (vānarakoṭībhiḥ) - by crowds of monkeys; यां (yāṃ) - which (direction); वयम् (vayam) - we; प्रस्थिता (prasthitā) - set out; दिशम् (diśam) - direction; तत्र (tatra) - there; प्रवृत्तिः (pravṛttiḥ) - news; सीतायाः (sītāyāḥ) - of Sītā; गृध्रेण (gṛdhreṇa) - by the vulture; प्रतिपादिता (pratipāditā) - was communicated;]
(Then, by crowds of monkeys, the direction in which we set out— there, the news of Sītā was communicated by the vulture.)
Then, among the places towards which we set out led by crowds of monkeys, it was there that the news of Sītā was communicated by the vulture. (03-147-33)
ततोऽहं कार्यसिद्ध्यर्थं रामस्याक्लिष्टकर्मणः। शतयोजनविस्तीर्णमर्णवं सहसाप्लुतः ॥०३-१४७-३४॥
tato'haṃ kāryasiddhyarthaṃ rāmasyākliṣṭakarmaṇaḥ। śatayojanavistīrṇamarṇavaṃ sahasāplutaḥ ॥03-147-34॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; अहम् (aham) - I; कार्यसिद्ध्यर्थम् (kāryasiddhyartham) - for the sake of accomplishment of the task; रामस्य (rāmasya) - of Rāma; अक्लिष्टकर्मणः (akliṣṭakarmaṇaḥ) - of unfatigued action; शतयोजनविस्तीर्णम् (śata-yojana-vistīrṇam) - of a hundred yojanas breadth; अर्णवम् (arṇavam) - ocean; सहसा (sahasā) - suddenly; अप्लुतः (aplutaḥ) - leapt across;]
(Then I, for the sake of accomplishment of the task, of Rāma of unfatigued action, the ocean of a hundred yojanas breadth, suddenly leapt across.)
Then I suddenly leapt over the ocean, a hundred yojanas wide, for the sake of accomplishing Rāma's unfatigued task. (03-147-34)
दृष्टा सा च मया देवी रावणस्य निवेशने। प्रत्यागतश्चापि पुनर्नाम तत्र प्रकाश्य वै ॥०३-१४७-३५॥
dṛṣṭā sā ca mayā devī rāvaṇasya niveśane। pratyāgataś cāpi punar nāma tatra prakāśya vai॥03-147-35॥
[दृष्टा (dṛṣṭā) - seen (feminine); सा (sā) - she; च (ca) - and; मया (mayā) - by me; देवी (devī) - the goddess; रावणस्य (rāvaṇasya) - of Rāvaṇa; निवेशने (niveśane) - in the residence; प्रत्यागतः (pratyāgataḥ) - returned (masculine); च (ca) - and; अपि (api) - also; पुनः (punar) - again; नाम (nāma) - name; तत्र (tatra) - there; प्रकाश्य (prakāśya) - having declared; वै (vai) - indeed;]
(She, the goddess, was seen by me in the residence of Rāvaṇa. Having also returned, indeed, having declared the name again there.)
I saw the goddess in Rāvaṇa's residence. Then, having returned and having declared the name again there, indeed, (I did so). (03-147-35)
ततो रामेण वीरेण हत्वा तान्सर्वराक्षसान्। पुनः प्रत्याहृता भार्या नष्टा वेदश्रुतिर्यथा ॥०३-१४७-३६॥
tato rāmeṇa vīreṇa hatvā tān sarvarākṣasān। punaḥ pratyāhṛtā bhāryā naṣṭā vedaśrutir yathā ॥03-147-36॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; रामेण (rāmeṇa) - by Rāma; वीरेण (vīreṇa) - by the hero; हत्वा (hatvā) - having slain; तान् (tān) - those; सर्वराक्षसान् (sarva-rākṣasān) - all Rākṣasas; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; प्रत्याहृता (pratyāhṛtā) - recovered; भार्या (bhāryā) - the wife; नष्टा (naṣṭā) - lost; वेदश्रुतिः (veda-śrutiḥ) - the Veda recitation; यथा (yathā) - as;]
(Then by Rāma, by the hero, having slain those all Rākṣasas, again was recovered the wife (who was) lost, as (is) the Veda recitation.)
Then, after slaying all those Rākṣasas, Rāma the hero recovered his lost wife again, just as Vedic recitation is recovered when lost. (03-147-36)
ततः प्रतिष्ठिते रामे वीरोऽयं याचितो मया। यावद्रामकथा वीर भवेल्लोकेषु शत्रुहन् ॥ तावज्जीवेयमित्येवं तथास्त्विति च सोऽब्रवीत् ॥०३-१४७-३७॥
tataḥ pratiṣṭhite rāme vīro'yaṁ yācito mayā। yāvad-rāmakathā vīra bhave(l)l-lokeṣu śatruhan ॥ tāvajjīveyamityevaṁ tathāst(v)iti ca so'bravīt ॥03-147-37॥

(Then, with Rāma departed, this hero was asked by me; as long as the Rāma-story, hero, may exist in the worlds, O destroyer of enemies, so long may I live—thus; in this manner, "So be it," thus, and he said.)
Then, after Rāma departed, I asked this hero: "As long as the story of Rāma, O hero and destroyer of enemies, endures in the worlds, so long may I live." In this way, he replied, "So be it." (03-147-37)
दश वर्षसहस्राणि दश वर्षशतानि च। राज्यं कारितवान्रामस्ततस्तु त्रिदिवं गतः ॥०३-१४७-३८॥
daśa varṣasahasrāṇi daśa varṣaśatāni ca। rājyaṃ kāritavān rāmas tatas tu tridivaṃ gataḥ॥03-147-38॥
[दश (daśa) - ten; वर्षसहस्राणि (varṣasahasrāṇi) - thousand years; दश (daśa) - ten; वर्षशतानि (varṣaśatāni) - hundred years; च (ca) - and; राज्यम् (rājyaṃ) - kingdom; कारितवान् (kāritavān) - had made happen/had ruled; रामः (rāmaḥ) - Rāma; ततः (tatas) - then; तु (tu) - indeed; त्रिदिवम् (tridivam) - the third heaven; गतः (gataḥ) - went;]
(Ten thousand years, ten hundred years and; kingdom had ruled Rāma, then indeed the third heaven went.)
Rāma ruled the kingdom for ten thousand and ten hundred years, and then indeed went to the third heaven. (03-147-38)
तदिहाप्सरसस्तात गन्धर्वाश्च सदानघ। तस्य वीरस्य चरितं गायन्त्यो रमयन्ति माम् ॥०३-१४७-३९॥
tad ihāpsarasas tāta gandharvāś ca sadānagha। tasya vīrasya caritaṃ gāyantyo ramayanti mām ॥03-147-39॥

अयं च मार्गो मर्त्यानामगम्यः कुरुनन्दन। ततोऽहं रुद्धवान्मार्गं तवेमं देवसेवितम् ॥ धर्षयेद्वा शपेद्वापि मा कश्चिदिति भारत ॥०३-१४७-४०॥
ayaṃ ca mārgo martyānām agamyaḥ kurunandana। tato'haṃ ruddhavān mārgaṃ tava imaṃ devasevitam॥ dharṣayed vā śaped vā api mā kaścid iti bhārata॥03-147-40॥
[अयं (ayaṃ) - this; च (ca) - and; मार्गः (mārgaḥ) - path; मर्त्यानाम् (martyānām) - of mortals; अगम्यः (agamyaḥ) - inaccessible; कुरुनन्दन (kurunandana) - O delight of the Kurus; ततः (tataḥ) - therefore; अहम् (aham) - I; रुद्धवान् (ruddhavān) - have obstructed; मार्गम् (mārgam) - the path; तव (tava) - your; इमम् (imam) - this; देवसेवितम् (devasevitam) - resorted to by the gods; धर्षयेत् (dharṣayet) - should violate; वा (vā) - or; शपेत् (śapet) - should curse; वा (vā) - or; अपि (api) - even; मा (mā) - not; कश्चित् (kaścit) - anyone; इति (iti) - thus; भारत (bhārata) - O descendant of Bharata;]
(This and path of mortals inaccessible, O Kurunandana. Therefore I have obstructed your this path resorted to by the gods. Should violate or should curse or even, not anyone—thus, O Bhārata.)
This path is inaccessible to mortals, O Kurunandana. Therefore I have blocked this path of yours, which is frequented by the gods. Let no one violate it or curse it—thus, O Bhārata. (03-147-40)
दिव्यो देवपथो ह्येष नात्र गच्छन्ति मानुषाः। यदर्थमागतश्चासि तत्सरोऽभ्यर्ण एव हि ॥०३-१४७-४१॥
divyo devapatho hyeṣa nātra gacchanti mānuṣāḥ। yadarthamāgataścāsi tatsaro'bhyarṇa eva hi ॥03-147-41॥
[दिव्यः (divyaḥ) - divine; देवपथः (devapathaḥ) - the path of the gods; हि (hi) - indeed; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; न (na) - not; अत्र (atra) - here; गच्छन्ति (gacchanti) - go; मानुषाः (mānuṣāḥ) - humans; यदर्थम् (yadartham) - for which purpose; आगतः (āgataḥ) - come; च (ca) - and; असि (asi) - you are; तत् (tat) - that; सरः (saraḥ) - lake; अभ्यर्ण (abhyarṇa) - vicinity; एव (eva) - indeed; हि (hi) - for;]
(Divine is the path of the gods indeed, this (one); not here go humans. For which purpose you have come and are (here), that lake is indeed in the vicinity, truly.)
This path is divine, the path of the gods; humans do not go here. The lake for which you have come is indeed close by. (03-147-41)
