स गत्वा नलिनीं रम्यां राक्षसैरभिरक्षिताम्। कैलासशिखरे रम्ये ददर्श शुभकानने ॥०३-१५१-१॥
sa gatvā nalinīṃ ramyāṃ rākṣasair abhirakṣitām। kailāsaśikhare ramye dadarśa śubhakānane ॥03-151-1॥
[स (sa) - he; गत्वा (gatvā) - having gone; नलिनीं (nalinīṃ) - the lotus-lake; रम्यां (ramyāṃ) - beautiful; राक्षसैः (rākṣasaiḥ) - by the rākṣasas; अभिरक्षिताम् (abhirakṣitām) - well protected; कैलासशिखरे (kailāsaśikhare) - on the summit of Kailāsa; रम्ये (ramye) - charming; ददर्श (dadarśa) - he saw; शुभकानने (śubhakānane) - in the beautiful forest;]
(He, having gone, the beautiful lotus-lake well protected by rākṣasas, on the charming summit of Kailāsa, he saw in the beautiful forest.)
He, having reached the beautiful lotus-lake well guarded by rākṣasas, saw it on the charming summit of Kailāsa, in the splendid forest. (03-151-1)
कुबेरभवनाभ्याशे जातां पर्वतनिर्झरे। सुरम्यां विपुलच्छायां नानाद्रुमलतावृताम् ॥०३-१५१-२॥
kuberabhavanābhyāśe jātāṃ parvatanirjhare। suramyāṃ vipulacchāyāṃ nānādrumalatāvṛtām ॥03-151-2॥
[कुबेरभवनाभ्याशे (kubera-bhavana-abhyāśe) - near the abode of Kubera; जातां (jātām) - arisen; पर्वतनिर्झरे (parvata-nirjhare) - in the mountain stream; सुरम्यां (suramyām) - beautiful; विपुलच्छायां (vipula-cchāyām) - having great shade; नानाद्रुमलतावृताम् (nānā-druma-latā-vṛtām) - covered with various trees and creepers;]
(Near the abode of Kubera, arisen in the mountain stream, beautiful, possessing great shade, covered with various trees and creepers.)
A beautiful place by the mountain stream, near Kubera's abode, arose, possessing great shade and covered with various trees and creepers. (03-151-2)
हरिताम्बुजसञ्छन्नां दिव्यां कनकपुष्कराम्। पवित्रभूतां लोकस्य शुभामद्भुतदर्शनाम् ॥०३-१५१-३॥
haritāmbujasañchannāṁ divyāṁ kanakapushkarām। pavitrabhūtāṁ lokasya śubhāmadbhutadarśanām॥03-151-3॥

(Covered by green lotuses, divine, with golden filaments, having become pure, of the world, auspicious, of wonderful appearance.)
Covered with green lotuses, divine, with golden filaments, purified, auspicious and wonderful to behold for the world. (03-151-3)
तत्रामृतरसं शीतं लघु कुन्तीसुतः शुभम्। ददर्श विमलं तोयं शिवं बहु च पाण्डवः ॥०३-१५१-४॥
tatrāmṛtarasaṃ śītaṃ laghu kuntīsutaḥ śubham। dadarśa vimalaṃ toyaṃ śivaṃ bahu ca pāṇḍavaḥ ॥03-151-4॥
[तत्र (tatra) - there; अमृतरसं (amṛtarasaṃ) - nectar-essenced; शीतं (śītaṃ) - cool; लघु (laghu) - light; कुन्ती-सुतः (kuntī-sutaḥ) - son of Kuntī; शुभम् (śubham) - auspicious; ददर्श (dadarśa) - saw; विमलम् (vimalaṃ) - pure; तोयम् (toyam) - water; शिवम् (śivam) - auspicious; बहु (bahu) - much; च (ca) - and; पाण्डवः (pāṇḍavaḥ) - Pāṇḍava (Arjuna);]
(There nectar-essenced, cool, light, son of Kuntī, auspicious, saw pure water auspicious, much and Pāṇḍava.)
There, the son of Kuntī, the Pāṇḍava, saw much pure water which was nectar-like, cool, light, and auspicious. (03-151-4)
तां तु पुष्करिणीं रम्यां पद्मसौगन्धिकायुताम्। जातरूपमयैः पद्मैश्छन्नां परमगन्धिभिः ॥०३-१५१-५॥
tāṃ tu puṣkariṇīṃ ramyāṃ padmasaugandhikāyutām. jātarūpamayaiḥ padmaiś channāṃ paramagandhibhiḥ ॥03-151-5॥

Then that beautiful lotus-pond, abounding in lotuses and fragrant saugandhika flowers, covered with golden and exceedingly fragrant lotuses. (03-151-5)
वैडूर्यवरनालैश्च बहुचित्रैर्मनोहरैः। हंसकारण्डवोद्धूतैः सृजद्भिरमलं रजः ॥०३-१५१-६॥
vaiḍūryavara-nālaiś ca bahu-citrair manoharaiḥ haṃsa-kāraṇḍava-uddhūtaiḥ sṛjadbhiḥ amalam rajaḥ ॥03-151-6॥
[वैडूर्यवरनालैः (vaiḍūryavara-nālaiḥ) - with excellent pipes (stalks) of beryl; च (ca) - and; बहुचित्रैः (bahu-citraiḥ) - with very diverse; मनोहरैः (manoharaiḥ) - charming; हंसकारण्डवोद्धूतैः (haṃsa-kāraṇḍava-uddhūtaiḥ) - agitated (by) swans and waterfowls; सृजद्भिः (sṛjadbhiḥ) - producing; अमलं (amalam) - pure; रजः (rajaḥ) - dust;]
(With excellent pipes of beryl and very diverse, charming (plants), agitated by swans and waterfowls, producing pure dust.)
With excellent beryl stalks and various charming (plants), stirred by swans and waterfowl, the (lotuses) emitted pure dust. (03-151-6)
आक्रीडं यक्षराजस्य कुबेरस्य महात्मनः। गन्धर्वैरप्सरोभिश्च देवैश्च परमार्चिताम् ॥०३-१५१-७॥
ākrīḍaṃ yakṣarājasya kuberasya mahātmanaḥ। gandharvair apsarobhiś ca devaiś ca paramārcitām ॥03-151-7॥
[आक्रीडम् (ākrīḍam) - pleasure-garden; यक्षराजस्य (yakṣarājasya) - of the king of yakṣas; कुबेरस्य (kuberasya) - of Kubera; महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - of the great-souled; गन्धर्वैः (gandharvaiḥ) - by Gandharvas; अप्सरोभिः (apsarobhiḥ) - by Apsarases; च (ca) - and; दैवैः (devaiḥ) - by gods; च (ca) - and; परम् (param) - exceedingly; अर्चिताम् (arcitām) - revered;]
(The pleasure-garden of the king of yakṣas, Kubera, the great-souled, by Gandharvas, by Apsarases and by gods, exceedingly revered.)
The pleasure-garden of the great-souled king of the yakṣas, Kubera, is exceedingly revered by Gandharvas, Apsarases, and gods. (03-151-7)
सेवितामृषिभिर्दिव्यां यक्षैः किम्पुरुषैस्तथा। राक्षसैः किंनरैश्चैव गुप्तां वैश्रवणेन च ॥०३-१५१-८॥
sevitām ṛṣibhir divyāṃ yakṣaiḥ kimpuruṣais tathā | rākṣasaiḥ kiṁnaraiś caiva guptāṃ vaiśravaṇena ca ॥03-151-8॥
[सेविताम् (sevitām) - honored; respected; served; ऋषिभिः (ṛṣibhiḥ) - by sages; दिव्यां (divyāṃ) - divine; यक्षैः (yakṣaiḥ) - by yakṣas; किम्पुरुषैः (kimpuruṣaiḥ) - by kimpuruṣas; तथा (tathā) - so; likewise; राक्षसैः (rākṣasaiḥ) - by rākṣasas; किंनरैः (kiṁnaraiḥ) - by kiṁnaras; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; गुप्ताम् (guptām) - protected; वैश्रवणेन (vaiśravaṇena) - by Vaiśravaṇa; च (ca) - and;]
(The divine (place) honored by sages, by yakṣas, by kimpuruṣas likewise, by rākṣasas, by kiṁnaras indeed, (and) also protected by Vaiśravaṇa.)
The divine place, honored by sages, yakṣas, kimpuruṣas, as well as by rākṣasas and kiṁnaras, and also protected by Vaiśravaṇa. (03-151-8)
तां च दृष्ट्वैव कौन्तेयो भीमसेनो महाबलः। बभूव परमप्रीतो दिव्यं सम्प्रेक्ष्य तत्सरः ॥०३-१५१-९॥
tāṃ ca dṛṣṭvaiva kaunteyo bhīmaseno mahābalaḥ। babhūva paramaprīto divyaṃ samprekṣya tatsaraḥ॥03-151-9॥
[तां (tāṃ) - her; (i.e. that – referring to feminine noun, here probably agreeing with 'sarāḥ': the lake;) च (ca) - and; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having seen; एव (eva) - indeed; कौन्तेयः (kaunteyaḥ) - Kaunteya; (son of Kunti; here, Bhīmasena;) भीमसेनः (bhīmasenaḥ) - Bhīmasena; (proper noun;) महाबलः (mahābalaḥ) - of great strength; बभूव (babhūva) - became; परमप्रीतः (paramaprītaḥ) - extremely delighted; दिव्यम् (divyam) - divine; सम्प्रेक्ष्य (samprekṣya) - having beheld; तत् (tat) - that; सरः (saraḥ) - lake;]
(And having indeed seen her, Kaunteya Bhīmasena of great strength became extremely delighted, having beheld that divine lake.)
When Bhīmasena, son of Kunti of great strength, saw her, he became extremely delighted upon beholding that divine lake. (03-151-9)
तच्च क्रोधवशा नाम राक्षसा राजशासनात्। रक्षन्ति शतसाहस्राश्चित्रायुधपरिच्छदाः ॥०३-१५१-१०॥
tac ca krodhavaśā nāma rākṣasā rājaśāsanāt। rakṣanti śatasāhasrāś citrāyudha-paricchadāḥ ॥03-151-10॥
[तत् (tat) - that; च (ca) - and; क्रोधवशा (krodhavaśā) - Krodhavaśā (name); नाम (nāma) - named; राक्षसाः (rākṣasāḥ) - rākṣasas; राजशासनात् (rājaśāsanāt) - by command of the king; रक्षन्ति (rakṣanti) - guard; शतसाहस्राः (śatasāhasrāḥ) - hundreds of thousands; चित्रायुधपरिच्छदाः (citrāyudha-paricchadāḥ) - with variegated weapons and accoutrements;]
(That and Krodhavaśā named rākṣasas, by the king's command, hundreds of thousands, with variegated weapons and accoutrements, guard.)
And those rākṣasas named Krodhavaśā, hundreds of thousands strong, equipped with various weapons and ornaments, guard by the king's command. (03-151-10)
ते तु दृष्ट्वैव कौन्तेयमजिनैः परिवारितम्। रुक्माङ्गदधरं वीरं भीमं भीमपराक्रमम् ॥०३-१५१-११॥
te tu dṛṣṭvaiva kaunteyam ajinaiḥ parivāritam। rukmāṅgada-dharaṃ vīraṃ bhīmaṃ bhīma-parākramaṃ ॥03-151-11॥
[ते (te) - they; तु (tu) - however; दृष्ट्वैव (dṛṣṭvaiva) - having seen indeed; कौन्तेयम् (kaunteyam) - the son of Kunti; अजिनैः (ajinaiḥ) - with animal skins; परिवारितम् (parivāritam) - surrounded; रुक्माङ्गदधरम् (rukmāṅgada-dharam) - wearing golden armlets; वीरम् (vīram) - hero; भीमम् (bhīmam) - Bhima; भीमपराक्रमम् (bhīma-parākramam) - of terrible strength;]
(They, however, having seen indeed the son of Kunti, surrounded with animal skins, wearing golden armlets, the hero Bhima, of terrible strength.)
However, when they saw Bhima, the son of Kunti, surrounded by those clad in animal skins, wearing golden armlets, heroic and possessing terrible strength, (03-151-11)
सायुधं बद्धनिस्त्रिंशमशङ्कितमरिंदमम्। पुष्करेप्सुमुपायान्तमन्योन्यमभिचुक्रुशुः ॥०३-१५१-१२॥
sāyudhaṃ baddha-nistriṃśam aśaṅkitam ariṃ-damam। puṣkar-epsum upāyāntam anyoːnyam abhicukruśuḥ ॥03-151-12॥
[सायुधम् (sāyudham) - armed; बद्धनिस्त्रिंशम् (baddha-nistriṃśam) - with fastened sword; अशङ्कितम् (aśaṅkitam) - fearless; अरिंदमम् (ariṃ-damam) - subduer of enemies; पुष्करेप्सुम् (puṣkara-ipsum) - desiring water (lotus-pond); उपायान्तम् (upāyāntam) - approaching; अन्योन्यम् (anyon-yam) - each other; अभिचुक्रुशुः (abhicukruśuḥ) - shouted at;]
(Armed, with fastened sword, fearless, the subduer of enemies, desiring water, approaching, at each other, shouted.)
Armed and girded with swords, fearless and subduers of enemies, all approaching, eager for water, shouted at each other. (03-151-12)
अयं पुरुषशार्दूलः सायुधोऽजिनसंवृतः। यच्चिकीर्षुरिह प्राप्तस्तत्सम्प्रष्टुमिहार्हथ ॥०३-१५१-१३॥
ayaṁ puruṣaśārdūlaḥ sāyudho'jinasamvṛtaḥ। yaccikīrṣur iha prāptas tat sampraṣṭum ihārhatha ॥03-151-13॥
[अयं (ayaṁ) - this; पुरुषशार्दूलः (puruṣaśārdūlaḥ) - tiger among men; सायुधः (sāyudhaḥ) - with weapons; अजिनसंवृतः (ajinasamvṛtaḥ) - covered with a skin; यत् (yat) - what; चिकीर्षुः (cikīrṣuḥ) - desiring to do; इह (iha) - here; प्राप्तः (prāptaḥ) - has come; तत् (tat) - that; सम्प्रष्टुम् (sampraṣṭum) - to ask; इह (iha) - here; अर्हथ (arhatha) - you ought;]
(This tiger among men, armed, covered with a skin, desiring to do something, has come here; that, to ask here, you ought.)
This man, a tiger among men, armed and covered with a skin, has come here wishing to act; you ought to inquire here what that is. (03-151-13)
ततः सर्वे महाबाहुं समासाद्य वृकोदरम्। तेजोयुक्तमपृच्छन्त कस्त्वमाख्यातुमर्हसि ॥०३-१५१-१४॥
tataḥ sarve mahābāhuṃ samāsādya vṛkodaram। tejoyuktam apṛcchanta kaḥ tvam ākhyātum arhasi॥03-151-14॥
[ततः (tataḥ) - then; सर्वे (sarve) - all; महाबाहुं (mahābāhuṃ) - the mighty-armed; समासाद्य (samāsādya) - having approached; वृकोदरम् (vṛkodaram) - Vṛkodara (Bhīma, lit. wolf-bellied one); तेजोयुक्तम् (tejoyuktam) - endowed with brilliance; अपृच्छन्त (apṛcchanta) - they asked; कः (kaḥ) - who; त्वम् (tvam) - you; आख्यातुम् (ākhyātum) - to relate; अर्हसि (arhasi) - you should;]
(Then all, having approached the mighty-armed Vṛkodara, endowed with brilliance, asked, "Who are you? You should relate (it).")
Then all, having approached the mighty-armed and illustrious Vṛkodara, asked him, "Who are you? You should tell us." (03-151-14)
मुनिवेषधरश्चासि चीरवासाश्च लक्ष्यसे। यदर्थमसि सम्प्राप्तस्तदाचक्ष्व महाद्युते ॥०३-१५१-१५॥
muniveṣadharaś cāsi cīravāsāś ca lakṣyase। yadartham asi samprāptas tadācakṣva mahādyute॥03-151-15॥
[मुनिवेषधरः (muniveṣadharaḥ) - having the appearance of a sage; च (ca) - and; असि (asi) - you are; चीरवासाः (cīravāsāḥ) - clad in bark; च (ca) - and; लक्ष्यसे (lakṣyase) - you are seen; यदर्थम् (yadartham) - for what purpose; असि (asi) - you are; सम्प्राप्तः (samprāptaḥ) - arrived; तत् (tad) - that; आचक्ष्व (ācakṣva) - tell; महाद्युते (mahādyute) - O greatly radiant one;]
(You are having the appearance of a sage and you are clad in bark and you are seen. For what purpose you are arrived, that tell, O greatly radiant one.)
You appear as a sage and wear bark garments; for what reason have you come here? Tell me that, O greatly radiant one. (03-151-15)
