Mahabharata - Aranyaka Parva (महाभारत - आरण्यकपर्वम्)
03.223
Draupadī said.
But I will tell you this faultless path for winning your husband's mind; following it properly, O friend, you will secure your husband away from other women. (03-223-1)
There is, in reality, no divinity among all the worlds and all the gods such as the husband to a woman; for by his favor all desires are obtainable, and if enraged, he can destroy. (03-223-2)
From that arise offspring and various enjoyments; marvelous beds and seats, garments and garlands, fragrances likewise; heaven and the world, unevenness, and fame. (03-223-3)
Happiness can never be gained here by pursuing only pleasure; a virtuous woman attains happiness through (enduring) suffering. Let her worship Kṛṣṇa with friendship and love, in all her actions and at all times. (03-223-4)
Therefore, she, recognizing that "I am her beloved," will slowly, with beautiful and excellent garlands, with acts of kindness, and with various fragrances, embrace you alone wholeheartedly. (03-223-5)
Hearing the voice of the master who has arrived at the door, rise and stand in the middle of the house. Upon seeing him enter, honor him with a swiftly prepared seat and water for his feet. (03-223-6)
When the maidservant has been sent away, then you should rise and do everything by yourself. Let Kṛṣṇa truly know this feeling of yours: that you serve me with all your heart. (03-223-7)
Whatever your husband might say in your presence, even if it is not a secret and should be protected, some co-wife of yours might tell Vāsudeva about it; by that, disaffection may arise. (03-223-8)
Feed the master's dear ones, attached ones, and well-wishers by various means. Among his enemies, adversaries, and unfriendly people, as well as his deceivers and the arrogant, you must always create division. (03-223-9)
Abandon pride and carelessness among people; control your disposition, having embraced silence. Even your sons Pradyumna and Sāmba should never be met with privately at any time. (03-223-10)
Let your friendship be with women from noble families, women who are not sinful, women, and virtuous women. The violent, the drunkards, the gluttons, the thieves, the wicked, and the restless should be avoided. (03-223-11)
O auspiciously fragrant one, adorned with very precious garlands, ornaments, and unguents, worship your husband; for this act is glorious, leads to heaven, and brings the destruction of enemies, O fortunate one (03-223-12)
