वैशम्पायन उवाच॥
Vaiśampāyana said.
मार्कण्डेयादिभिर्विप्रैः पाण्डवैश्च महात्मभिः। कथाभिरनुकूलाभिः सहासित्वा जनार्दनः ॥०३-२२४-१॥
Janārdana, having smiled in the company of Mārkaṇḍeya and other brāhmaṇas, as well as the great-souled Pāṇḍavas, with favorable stories, (03-224-1)
ततस्तैः संविदं कृत्वा यथावन्मधुसूदनः। आरुरुक्षू रथं सत्यामाह्वयामास केशवः ॥०३-२२४-२॥
Then, together with them, after properly taking counsel, Madhusūdana (Keśava, Kṛṣṇa), wishing to mount the chariot, summoned it in the presence of Satyā. (03-224-2)
सत्यभामा ततस्तत्र स्वजित्वा द्रुपदात्मजाम्। उवाच वचनं हृद्यं यथाभावसमाहितम् ॥०३-२२४-३॥
Then Satyabhama, having befriended the daughter of Drupada there, spoke words that were heartfelt and suited to the occasion. (03-224-3)
कृष्णे मा भूत्तवोत्कण्ठा मा व्यथा मा प्रजागरः। भर्तृभिर्देवसङ्काशैर्जितां प्राप्स्यसि मेदिनीम् ॥०३-२२४-४॥
O Kṛṣṇā, do not let longing, distress, or sleeplessness be yours. You will regain the conquered earth through your husbands, who are like gods. (03-224-4)
न ह्येवं शीलसम्पन्ना नैवं पूजितलक्षणाः। प्राप्नुवन्ति चिरं क्लेशं यथा त्वमसितेक्षणे ॥०३-२२४-५॥
Truly, those endowed with virtue and marked by honor do not experience prolonged suffering as you do, O dark-eyed one. (03-224-5)
अवश्यं च त्वया भूमिरियं निहतकण्टका। भर्तृभिः सह भोक्तव्या निर्द्वंद्वेति श्रुतं मया ॥०३-२२४-६॥
I have heard that indeed, this earth, once its thorns are removed, is to be enjoyed by you along with your husbands, free from afflictions. (03-224-6)
धार्तराष्ट्रवधं कृत्वा वैराणि प्रतियात्य च। युधिष्ठिरस्थां पृथिवीं द्रष्टासि द्रुपदात्मजे ॥०३-२२४-७॥
After slaying the sons of Dhritarashtra and ending enmities, you will see the earth under Yudhishthira's rule, O son of Drupada. (03-224-7)
यास्ताः प्रव्राजमानां त्वां प्राहसन्दर्पमोहिताः। ताः क्षिप्रं हतसङ्कल्पा द्रक्ष्यसि त्वं कुरुस्त्रियः ॥०३-२२४-८॥
The Kuru women who, deluded by pride, spoke to you as you were departing—very soon, you yourself will see those same women, their courage broken. (03-224-8)
तव दुःखोपपन्नाया यैराचरितमप्रियम्। विद्धि सम्प्रस्थितान्सर्वांस्तान्कृष्णे यमसादनम् ॥०३-२२४-९॥
O Kṛṣṇā, know that all those by whom unpleasant things were done to you, who have encountered sorrow, have departed to the abode of Yama. (03-224-9)
पुत्रस्ते प्रतिविन्ध्यश्च सुतसोमस्तथा विभुः। श्रुतकर्मार्जुनिश्चैव शतानीकश्च नाकुलिः ॥ सहदेवाच्च यो जातः श्रुतसेनस्तवात्मजः ॥०३-२२४-१०॥
Your sons are Prativindhya, Sutasoma, Vibhu, Śrutakarman, Śatānīka—son of Nakula—and from Sahadeva was born Śrutasena, your son. (03-224-10)
सर्वे कुशलिनो वीराः कृतास्त्राश्च सुतास्तव। अभिमन्युरिव प्रीता द्वारवत्यां रता भृशम् ॥०३-२२४-११॥
All your sons, the heroes skilled in arms, are safe; like Abhimanyu, they are greatly pleased and occupied at Dvāravatī. (03-224-11)
त्वमिवैषां सुभद्रा च प्रीत्या सर्वात्मना स्थिता। प्रीयते भावनिर्द्वंद्वा तेभ्यश्च विगतज्वरा ॥०३-२२४-१२॥
You, just like these, and Subhadra too, are established in love with all your soul. Free from all affliction and beyond duality of feeling, you are dear to them. (03-224-12)
भेजे सर्वात्मना चैव प्रद्युम्नजननी तथा। भानुप्रभृतिभिश्चैनान्विशिनष्टि च केशवः ॥०३-२२४-१३॥
Keśava (Krishna) sent with his full intent Pradyumna's mother as well as Bhānu and others, and further assigned them. (03-224-13)
भोजनाच्छादने चैषां नित्यं मे श्वशुरः स्थितः। रामप्रभृतयः सर्वे भजन्त्यन्धकवृष्णयः ॥ तुल्यो हि प्रणयस्तेषां प्रद्युम्नस्य च भामिनि ॥०३-२२४-१४॥
My father-in-law has always provided food and clothing for these; Rāma and the others—all the Andhakas and Vṛṣṇis—show him respect; their affection for him is equal to that for Pradyumna, O beautiful lady. (03-224-14)
एवमादि प्रियं प्रीत्या हृद्यमुक्त्वा मनोनुगम्। गमनाय मनश्चक्रे वासुदेवरथं प्रति ॥०३-२२४-१५॥
Having spoken such dear, affectionate, and heartfelt words as the mind prompted, he resolved to depart towards Vasudeva's chariot. (03-224-15)
तां कृष्णां कृष्णमहिषी चकाराभिप्रदक्षिणम्। आरुरोह रथं शौरेः सत्यभामा च भामिनी ॥०३-२२४-१६॥
Krishna's dark-complexioned queen performed circumambulation of her. Then Satyabhama, the splendid lady, ascended the chariot of Krishna. (03-224-16)
स्मयित्वा तु यदुश्रेष्ठो द्रौपदीं परिसान्त्व्य च। उपावर्त्य ततः शीघ्रैर्हयैः प्रायात्परन्तपः ॥०३-२२४-१७॥
After smiling, the foremost of the Yadus, having fully comforted Draupadī, turned the chariot and then departed swiftly with his horses, the subduer of enemies. (03-224-17)
